@Daffodil21 I'm not getting too excited because I know your plug can start coming out weeks before but at least something is happening 😅

sarah13xx · 05/08/2021 18:28

@Daffodil21 they’re very casual about everything 😂 at least if I think of any questions I can ask on Saturday before I go in. Yip this is true, we’re lucky we’re so low risk they aren’t wanting us in quickly I suppose 😊

Inmypjsagain · 05/08/2021 18:40

@Ready2020 at least you get to see baby again! Maybe you’ll get a good idea of engagement too?

@sarah13xx I’ve never had a cannula either and I was worried about it. They took blood from me at the same time (not sure if that’s standard though because I needed a cross match (?)) but it felt like a rough blood test and you can feel the insertion, it’s uncomfortable and not painful, I squeezed my husband’s hand but it didn’t hurt it just wasn’t pleasant. The catheter being removed wasn’t an issue for me, again it was unpleasant but I was much more uncomfortable with the cannula (having said that, the catheter is removed when you’re still on hospital medication, so it could be that painkillers took the edge off). In terms of discomfort my cut and stomach generally felt better when I was in hospital because I’d been given hospital drugs 3 times a day, plus two that were suppositories. At home with just ibuprofen and paracetamol definitely makes a difference but it’s better daily. Also- I was told the same thing about tea and toast, but my first meal after the section was breakfast the next day, I was the last section of the day as it’s as maternal request, so I didn’t eat for 36 hours. I had my own snacks with me but tbh I didn’t feel like eating after the drugs!

@biscuitcat thank you! I’m just not sure what size to get… my 34H is too small… so should the cup size be XL? Confused

@WolfMother326 my last week and a half (so from 37 weeks pretty much) was so painful. Walking was just awful, my pubic bone had so much pressure. It was like my whole body hurt and I was just exhausted. Showering was enough to wipe me out. Are you on iron? My levels dipped later in pregnancy which probably contributed to it.

sarah13xx · 05/08/2021 19:02

@Inmypjsagain no doubt the painkillers will have made a difference, especially the strong ones! That’s not too bad, I can handle that I think 🙈 if the spinal isn’t worse than the cannula then I’m sure il be able to get through it! Oh no so I might not even be hungry! I have a lot of really good snacks that I’m saving for going in so I know I have them to look forward to whenever I can eat again

lucyrp · 05/08/2021 19:04

@Inmypjsagain I bought those bras and I'm a 34F and I bought them in XL and they were way too big even though I wear an XL in these bras which are also from H&M so take from that what you will 🤣

@WolfMother326 totally agree! More tired and feeling the need for a nap in the day, definitely more pelvic discomfort but still trying to carry on with exercising. I have found swimming great and a lot more comfortable!

RandomCatGenerator · 05/08/2021 19:35

Can I ask for snack recipes please ladies? I live overseas so can’t get a lot of the snacks that are available in the UK.

Last day of work tomorrow. Am at 37 weeks - I am totally with you @WolfMother326 and @Smallbean27 I am KNACKERED. A walk after every meal poops me right out.

RandomCatGenerator · 05/08/2021 19:39

Agree on swimming @Smallbean27 - the weightless feeling is so great. Just floating for a while on my back has been wonderful. But sometimes just the effort of getting into a swimsuit feels a bit much!

RandomCatGenerator · 05/08/2021 19:40

Serious FlowersCakeBrew for the ladies who are still commuting to work well into pregnancy. I am fortunate to be able to work from home. I have huge admiration for you all.

Smallbean27 · 05/08/2021 20:04

@RandomCatGenerator woo hoo nearly there! It's much better when you can lay in bed or just have a lie down in the day!
Maybe your own cereal bar/oat bar so plenty of fibre?

Daffodil21 · 05/08/2021 20:12

Sorry to be a pain but can I ask another CS question for those who have had one..?

They said on the phone earlier that I should just bring the bare essentials into the hospital beforehand and then my husband get the rest in when I'm on the ward. They said to bring nappy+vest+baby gro+hat for him, but what will I need, if anything while in the recovery room?

Can’t wait!

RandomCatGenerator · 05/08/2021 20:38

Is anyone else absolutely STARVING at night in late pregnancy? I’m not sure what to do about it as if I eat eg a bowl of cereal I end up with painful gas but I’m soooooo hungry.

@sarah13xx i think it might depend on how gentle your nurse is with the catheter, I was bracing myself for pain but didn’t even feel it come out in the end
@WolfMother326 I’ve been feeling really tired too, have to have an extra nap in the day. There’s weird pain in my pelvic area but just one one side that makes it harder to stand and to turn over in bed, I’ve been told it’s all normal.
@lucyrp glad things are going in the right direction for you

Aaaaa1519 · 05/08/2021 21:00

for those that went into labour naturally, did anyone get a bloody show?
Also how do you know it’s your mucus plug and not normal discharge?

Daffodil21 · 05/08/2021 21:04

Thanks @RandomCatGenerator I've got all that stuff sorted (I think!). I was more talking about for the recovery room bit post surgery but before the ward? I was planning on just bringing in a snack for me in case I don't get tea and toast but wondering if I'm missing anything for that period of time?! I'm guessing it's a few hours post surgery before being moved to the ward?

Ava50x · 05/08/2021 21:08

@WolfMother326 I am bloody knackered all the time! Desperate for a nap in the afternoons but with DC home now there's no time for such luxuries!

@lucyrp hoping things start moving for you soon!

@PurplePansy05 loving the name! And so pleased you have had a positive experience. Glad you are recovering well, hope you get to go home soon. Re breastfeeding, I see you've gotten lots of good advice. I would add that babies always go back to their original feeding method. So if baby was started on the boob, then switched to bottle for whatever reason, they will go back on the boob- and vice versa. (I got this advice from a lactation consultant). So don't worry if baby is getting lots of top ups now. Its just important to keep the milk flowing to build up the milk supply, so keep offering the breast and pumping. You'll get there! Are you using the colostrum you expressed?

lucyrp · 05/08/2021 21:11

@Aaaaa1519 when I lost some of my plug earlier I could tell it was that as I've been having white creamy discharge my whole pregnancy but on the paper before there was like a lump of almost green/yellow jelly. Didn't notice it with my first pregnancy but it was quite obvious it was that

Inmypjsagain · 05/08/2021 21:29

I’ve just realised it takes me so long to write a post that i miss loads of the thread 😂

@lucyrp yay for the mucus plug! Hope that means you don’t have a long wait!

@Daffodil21 I was on recovery ward for 2 hours and was SO warm, so make sure you have water (midwives will give some to you but I finished it in about 2 gulps) and snacks in case you are hungry. I had haribo for sugar and cereal bars as not too crumby but substantialish . Aside from that you’re just there to cuddle baby and rest with your partner.
I was in my gown and wouldn’t have changed into my nightie at that point, as too numb and on a pad with a sanitary towel between my legs. The midwives helped with breast feeding then too, so if you have nipple shields, or a pillow to help breast feeding or any other breast feeding bits have them to hand. I’d take more than one outfit, hat and nappy incase there’s a big poo or a leak. I was wheeled away with no knickers on but the other lady managed to put knickers and pads on, so you might want that too. I can’t think of anything else you’d need really, if you’re really warm maybe your fan but anything really important the midwives can help you out!

Inmypjsagain · 05/08/2021 21:32

@Aaaaa1519 I lost my mucus plug the day before c section, like Lucy I’d had thick creamy discharge and this was like orange jelly. I didn’t know if I’d be able to spot it but it was quite obvious in consistency, it was jelly slime basically, I googled it and images show it’s yellowish but as I said mine was orange!

Inmypjsagain · 05/08/2021 21:34

And thanks @lucyrp re the bras! That’s why it’s so confusing! I’ll go for an L and XL and see what happens!!!

Daffodil21 · 05/08/2021 21:35

Thanks @Inmypjsagain! Do you think my husband will be allowed to go to the car to get anything I need while I'm recovery - eg the fan? Or should I just make sure I have everything I'm likely to need?

Whatshouldbemyusername · 05/08/2021 21:38

@WolfMother326 thanks for this info! Helps a lot. So I'm 37+4 and tired as well. My braxton hicks have increased in frequency as well. Glad tomorrow is your last day! Rest away!

@Magik01 all the best for tomorrow. You and little one will be fine and will very soon be getting newborn cuddles. Can't wait to hear news once baby is here x

@RandomCatGenerator so I'm gonna make some date balls tomorrow. Basically take some butter and pitted dates and cook on low heat whilst mushing them. Add some cacao and chopped nuts and cook on low heat. After a while turn off flame and when it's cooling, mould into balls and dip in desiccated coconut. Very tasty, healthy and filing. Also have a good last day at work tomorrow x

Inmypjsagain · 05/08/2021 21:42

@Daffodil21 mine could have come and gone at the hospital I was at, so don’t see why not! Might just be easier to Have everything to hand but if you’re limited to space then I’d say outfits and snacks are most important, then breastfeeding stuff.
