@BertieBotts thanks babe! I have my next MW appointment at 38 weeks at the birth centre so will speak to them but this is helpful! Thanks again. Glad I got it checked. To be honest makes you wonder why it's still not tested under the NHS. Oh well. As long as mums and babies are ok 🙏🏽😊

biscuitcat · 05/08/2021 14:44

@PurplePansy05 what a gorgeous name 🥰 I think my favourite part of the babies being born is hearing names! And glad to hear it's been a positive experience for you. The tips are very helpful too!

I think I've started nesting - today have finally (to incredibly tidy DH's relief) tidied our bedroom and rearranged the nursery, hoovered everywhere, just about to make a curry to freeze, and have several loads of laundry! The only thing I miss about the heatwave is how quickly everything dried after washing, all rainy here today so I'll have to stagger it so we have enough drying space 😂

I've also bought more leggings so when baby arrives I have plenty of comfy clothes to wear that aren't pyjamas, as I like to feel a bit dressed and currently I don't really have much between PJs and proper clothes like jeans, which I don't imagine I'll fancy!

Smurf123 · 05/08/2021 15:26

@PurplePansy05 what a lovely name hope you are both doing well!
Ds was topped up with formula as like @BertieBotts he was in nicu. We weren't able to take him out of the incubator or hold him for first 5 days so he was tube fed with the very little I managed to express followed by bottle fed then breast and bottle fed before being ebf from about 10 days old (the very occasional formula bottle if I needed a sleep or something) Once he was out of the hospital I was encouraged to breastfeed in demand and the just weighed him regularly to make sure he was gaining which thankfully he did.
Nicu encouraged us to let them give him a dummy while he was with them to keep his suck reflex. We did and he latched on fine when he was then able to. He never really took the dummy after nicu though , it certainly didn't seem to confuse him like others say.
Sophia didn't latch on immediately after birth though she soon got it but they said to just let her root about and try as even though she wasn't yet getting anything it would stimulate milk to come in. My milk came in about day 3 this time around.
My tip for hospital bag - bring a range of outfit sizes for baby! I brought newborn (I think it said 50cm) - Sophia was too long for the baby grow well below the weight but it just wasn't long enough 🙈 luckily I had a set from next too which seemed slightly longer than the Tesco set! Dh went to shop next day to get up to 1m instead !
@Inmypjsagain we are doing well thanks. Sophia is now up above her birth weight and we managed to do a couple of small walks this week which has been nice.

Smurf123 · 05/08/2021 15:43

@PurplePansy05 one of the midwives also recommended drinking fennel tea apparently it helps with milk production. It's also supposed to be good at soothing baby's tummy too. No idea how much it works or not but I'm drinking it again this time around just in case

Magik01 · 05/08/2021 16:15

Ahh @PurplePansy05 it’s so nice to hear you had a lovely experience! And gorgeous name as well! Thank you for the tips too, very handy.

I’m not going to lie I’m getting very anxious now! I know I’m not going to get much sleep tonight!

Glad to hear all the ladies so far are doing well and I’m loving hearing names and weighs as well. Grin

sarah13xx · 05/08/2021 16:30

@Magik01 you’ll be absolutely fine and will be on here in no time with a lovely story too ☺️ Have you to be in first thing?

Daffodil21 · 05/08/2021 16:37

@sarah13xx just had a little look on the list to see what's happening over the last few days and realised we're next after @Magik01 tomorrow! Best of luck tomorrow! Looking forward to hearing all about it.

I fiiiiiinally had a pre-op call from the hosp today!

Inmypjsagain · 05/08/2021 16:50

@PurplePansy05 love the name! So pleased you had a good experience! Hope you're enjoying all the cuddles. How long do you think you’ll have to stay in for?

@Smurf123 pleased to hear 💖 must be nice to get out and about!

@biscuitcat you’ve been productive! But you’ll be so pleased when you come back to a tidy and organised house. Good shout on the leggings, I’m living in nighties for the first time since I was about 4 as easy to put on and no pressure on my tummy. I’m on a mission to find a nursing bra that’s a crop top, but if fits my back it’s too small for my boobs, I don’t want to wear a wired bra 😔

@Magik01 incase I’m not on later, wishing you the very best for tomorrow. Honestly it will be fine and the run up to it is much worse, I think once you’ve done the cannula you’ve done the worst bit and then it’s the countdown for baby cuddles. Look forward to seeing an update when you’re able! xxx

Ready2020 · 05/08/2021 17:01

So at my midwife appointment today she's suggested a scan tomorrow to make sure baby is facing down as she can't quite tell 🤦‍♀️ So it's a drive to Edinburgh in the morning.

MrsB2019x · 05/08/2021 17:03

Best of luck for tomorrow @Magik01!

I’m still here and pregnant, inductions are still being pushed back. Apparently they were getting a consultant to come round and prioritise the list but I haven’t been given an update following that. Feeling quite disheartened tbh 😔

sarah13xx · 05/08/2021 17:11

@Inmypjsagain is the cannula really the worst part? I’ve never been in hospital for anything so I’ve never had one before and it’s freaking me out 🙈 how long does it take to go in, just the same as having blood taken or longer?

@Daffodil21 bloody terrifying getting to the top of the list 😂😭 half of me is actually excited and just desperate for monday to come so I can see his face but the other half is just full of fear about the whole thing 🙈 most of what I’m dreading is the feeling before it. It’s the fact you could just say no not today thanks and go back home with your baby still in your belly 😂 When I get in and sit on the table itl be a few uncomfortable bits then itl be too late to back out so I’ll calm down hopefully and just be excited. I think you’ll be before me, I’m after lunch and will either be first or second so I think I’ve worked out that could be as late as 3pm if I’m the last one (as long as there’s no emergencies)!

Daffodil21 · 05/08/2021 17:17

@sarah13xx yeah I'm not looking forward to just waiting at the hospital for hours! Been told to arrive for 11am as I am an afternoon booking, but they don't know what as depends on priorities during the day. I imagine I will be bottom of the list as it is a maternal request ELCS so no medical reason at all. They have said it will definitely be done that day as there is already such a back log so they can't afford to put anymore off. So sounds like I'll be having a rushed section at the end of the day 🙈🙈 been told to fast from 5am but can drink as much water as I like and can also have tea as long as no milk

OP posts:
Magik01 · 05/08/2021 17:17

@MrsB2019x I hope your induction gets sorted ASAP! How was the sweep yesterday? Do you feel like it’s moved anything along at all?

@sarah13xx yes I’ve been told to be at MAU for half 7 so hopefully im one of the first in which I think will help with the anxiety.

Thank you for the well wishes @Daffodil21 and @Inmypjsagain Grin

PurplePansy05 · 05/08/2021 17:40

@sarah13xx Definitely canula and then cathether when they take it out, but really none of it was awful. You'll be absolutely fine. xx

biscuitcat · 05/08/2021 17:50

@Inmypjsagain these ones are super comfy! www2.hm.com/engb/productpage.0596877019.html?proyster=hnsqtsp6AA&utmid=gocmp-12828082235adg-121943361336ad-517954073642pla-319520409259dev-mext-prd-en-0596877019003sig-CjwKCAjwmK6IBhBqEiwAocMc8mufftv8NKWvzN4dkGI9zdpMLyhD0V1Xj6aRIZSet36OAiS9m6nhoCelgQAvDBwE&utmsource=Google&gclid=CjwKCAjwmK6IBhBqEiwAocMc8mufftv8NKWvzN4dkGI9zdpMLyhD0V1Xj6aRIZSet36OAiS9m6nhoCelgQAvDBwE

They're not massively supportive for big boobs, so won't give you a nice shape or anything for under clothes, but as ones to wear around the house I can't recommend enough - so soft and comfy.

Good luck for tomorrow @Magik01! Very jealous of the baby snuggles you'll be having soon 🥰

sarah13xx · 05/08/2021 17:51

@Magik01 fingers crossed you get in first then! Would just save hours of worrying 😅

@PurplePansy05 oh that’s good! I’ve heard some people have been sort of scratched by the catheter as it’s removed and it can feel like you have a uti for a while after it. Hopefully that’s not me 😂 Just need to take my brave pills I think!

@Daffodil21 oh I thought you were the morning for some reason. Mine is the same with no medical reason so I’m thinking I’ll probably be last unless they do the scared girl first 😂 I’ve to be there for 10 but I think they stop for lunch around 12-1 then the first afternoon person goes in. I can have breakfast at 6am they’ve said and drink water til 10. I can’t drink tea without milk so I’ll just stick to water 🙈 hoping it’s not too late, can imagine being starving won’t help the whole nerves situation! The nurse said you get tea and toast within the first hour in recovery so I’ll try to focus on that 😂

biscuitcat · 05/08/2021 17:51

I don't think the link worked, so just trying again!

WolfMother326 · 05/08/2021 17:59

@PurplePansy05 what a lovely name! congratulations again.

@Whatshouldbemyusername I am also GBS positive and visited the birthing centre since finding out- they said it would be no problem for water birth, they will just give the antibiotics at the outset before I get in and it doesn't take very long.

WolfMother326 · 05/08/2021 18:01

For all those who are still a little far from their due dates - have you noticed things going a bit downhill in terms of energy/how your body feels? I've been quite active the whole pregnancy but can now not walk very far without serious pain in my pelvis/abdomen, and been having really bad cramps low in pelvis (maybe Braxton Hicks) plus intense fatigue. Tomorrow is my last day of work thank god, I feel like a blob and just cannot rally. I'm 38+2, wonder if the next three weeks will just feel this way (assuming I go into labour by 41 weeks seems safer than counting on my due date...)

Daffodil21 · 05/08/2021 18:12

@sarah13xx it's funny how it varies isn't it! I was told today I can drink all the way up until surgery as they've found that being hydrated helps recovery?! I'm so glad about that as I'l definitely struggle to not drink anything!

lucyrp · 05/08/2021 18:13

Finally something going on, lost some of my plug this evening alongside weird cramping and pelvic pressure 👀

BertieBotts · 05/08/2021 18:14

Yes for sure. I invited people over 3 weeks ago and was tidying up just before but it got postponed and they are coming Sunday now. I just cannot be arsed to clean and will hope that DH does most of it on Saturday Blush

sarah13xx · 05/08/2021 18:19

@Daffodil21 so strange! The times on the original paperwork I was given aren’t the actual times they seem to go by either so I was really confused when they said 10am. I think it’s just for the risk of being sick if you’re under general anesthetic but probably water isn’t going to cause any harm. My hospital seem to be keen on all the enhanced recovery stuff so I’m quite glad I can have a breakfast. I didn’t think I was getting a pre-op appointment, they said at the information session that we wouldn’t and they’d just do the tests in the morning on the day unless you were first. just been called to go in for blood/covid tests on Saturday so at least that’s one thing out the way

Daffodil21 · 05/08/2021 18:23

@sarah13xx the pre-op phone call I just had was literally the only info I've been given! Sounds like it's lots of waiting around but I suppose better than being a priority.

@lucyrp yessss! Glad things seem like they're moving for you!
