Thought I'd start the new thread, hope you like the title! Best I could come up with I'm afraid!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi everyone.

Have had a really busy weekend with DHs birthday on Friday, a night out with ds2 playgroup mums last night and ds1 5th birthday today. We had a party for him for the first time and he had a great time!

TMI alert - on everyones queries re poohing in labour. With ds1 my body did have a clearout in the early stages of labour. With ds2 though it didn't and it was in the very final stages of labour when I was pushing him out that it happened! The midwifes have seen it all before and to be honest I was concentrating so hard on having a baby that I wasn't too aware of it and certainly was not bothered!! All part and parcel of the wonders that are natural childbirth I'm afraid.

Very of those of you with only a few weeks left to work. My temporary cover starts tomorrow and I have 6 weeks to train him up. I have 3 weeks leave after I finish at work so start my maternity leave on my due date. Really hoping I don't go too early as I'm so looking forward to those few weeks of rest before lo makes an appearance - but at the end of the day as long as he arrives safely I'll be happy!

SallyInYorkshire · 02/12/2007 20:38

Thanks Joosey!

Slacker - isn't it funny what people come out with. like "have you got the nursery decorated yet". well there's no way I am going up any stepladders with my centre-of-gravity issues as they are... and it's not like the baby will notice anyway!!

Ginger I went through a "babies not moving as much stage" last week, was almost worried, especially about Nemo as he seemed so quiet, but he is back with a vengeance this week. When they go from moving all the time to only moving when you really lie down and poke them and eat biscuits it is quite scary.

Am feeling a bit crap today again. Was awake most of the night, need to go and lie down now. Went in to DS this morning and he had been sick in the bed. Only a little bit, and I think it was from coughing as he seemed ok and ate breakfast ok, but he cried so hard when I took him to nursery I am worried he is unwell again and he will not be able to go for the rest of the week. I have one dentist, one docs, and two hospital appts this week, as well as my dad coming to stay for a night, and friends coming at the weekend. I DO NOT need him to be at home sick again this week.

Of course I don't want him to be ill for his sake either...

I had five poos the day I went into labour. Two before I knew anything was even remotely likely to happen that day, and three during the first hour and a half of labour. Therefore I think there was nothing left to come out!

Love the ugly twin quote...

Had a bit of a wakeup call over the weekend that I really must slow down. Had people over for dinner on friday night, then on Sat went to the rugby at twickenham. Due to the train service having engineering works (wonderful planning on an international match weekend ) landed up walking from richmond to twickenham. Watched game and then was standing in a bar with dh and his friends for nearly 2 hrs before walking back again to Richmond train station. Return leg took me nearly an hour and I was basically hobbling by the end (to which DH was helpfully saying - well I've done this loads of times before and it only takes 20 mins - grr!!). Have even more sympathy for those of you with pelvic trouble now! Then had to go for dinner with some friends (which was lovely but could have done with just going to bed.) Couldn't sleep when finally got home as my hips & back were just so sore. Landed up in the bath for an hour at 3am - which was bliss! All fine again now but am really tired. Guess I really need to just realise I can't do that anymore and somehow get DH to realise it too!!
Had a blood test on Fri so hopefully they'll tell me if I'm low in iron or something hence feeling so knackered. Otherwise i guess its just the joys of pregnancy!! Am supposed to be working till end of 37 weeks -no idea how I'm going to manage that! V jealous of those of you who are stopping this side of christmas!
Sorry for the long moan!!

Hope mini and ladlemonke are ok

Pk616 · 03/12/2007 11:31

ginger - I'm 30+3 today and the bairn has been moving less since sunday night but when she has moved there have been some pretty powerful kicks involved that actually move the chair I'm sitting on! The bump feels really tight at the moment though so I think it's an issue of room.
My midwife told me a couple of weeks ago that she didn't want me to count how much she moves and stuff she just said use your intuition, you are the only one who knows how much your baby normally moves and how tight your belly feels so go with your gut and if you are worried about anything at all to call her 'cause thats what shes there for.
So rather than tell you it's normal and everythings ok, I feel that all I can do is pass on what she said to me!
Having said that, I hope that everything is ok.

As for everyones 'pooh in labour' conversation... I've never been in labour before, nobody told me about that, not even DP's cousin, and she's a midwife! Why isn't that in the pregnancy books! I'm a bit of a prude when it comes to bodily functions, just the way I was raised! I think I'm gonna put the need for an enema at the very top of my birth plan!

Egg, sorry to hear you're feeling crap and your lo might be ill again I hope you are both better soon.

Rozzy, I don't envy you at all with having to work so close to your due date but on the bright side, you'll get more time with the Lo than if you'd taken your leave earlier. You sound like a really strong person though so those six weeks will pass in no time!

Slacker, get well soon chick, I've had four colds and the flu since I've been pregnant and none of it was fun. Wrap up, keep hydrated and take it easy.

caramel, moan away lassie, you've got to get it out of your system somewhere, why not here!
Have a chat with your hubby, he really needs to understand that you have to slow down now.
If you think you might need some iron eat more eggs, chocolate, leafy greens etc and things with B12 in them like marmite (oh and eggs!) and vitamin C you need all 3 for good iron absorbtion and if you're low they'll perk you up a bit while you wait for the results and the pills.

Gill79 · 03/12/2007 12:55

Hi Ginger - I'm definitely not feeling kicks in the same way as earlier on but feeling more movement if that makes sense - I can feel the legs moving about but I think there isn't room to deliver a proper kick! Maybe also because the baby is now head-down and so if the position it's in means I'm not feeling things due to them hitting the placenta (which is at the front) or going to the back this is unlikely to change (hope that makes sense!!). My LO seems to have a habit of delivering sharp punches to the cervix, and it is beginning to get really painful! Not a nice feeling at all.
Not counting movements either PK, it's just general squirming and can't count discrete movements.

Pk616 · 03/12/2007 13:08

Gill, I know what you mean, a lot of it would be totally uncountable! I got the cervix kicks/punches from about 16 until about 23 weeks, they made me double over instantly. I thought it was funny for the first couple of days but the novelty soon wore off! One of the movements she does at the moment that really makes my toes curl is when she turns from side to side, the way I've been describing it to DP is it feels as though she's trying to grab the corner of the duvet and pull it over her, only the duvet is my uterine wall!

OP posts:
Tallulah1978 · 03/12/2007 14:08

Hi ladies - glad you're talking about movements - I was feeling a little worried. I too have an anterior placenta like Gill79 and know that those kicks are harder to feel - but the LO had such an active week last week and he's quitened down over the weekend and today and I know you're supposed to monitor after 28 weeks and see a regular pattern of movement - but I don't really. Belly goes hard off and on and had my first braxton hicks last week and had such strong movements. Bump feels lower down today and have my growth scan at 29 + 3 on Wednesday so looking forward to seeing how LO is position and finding if he's growing okay. Keep waking up early hours of morning with terribly achey kidneys - i know it's not my back - it's eased when I wee - I hope it's nothing to worry about - I just know it's very uncomfortable and wakes me up. Always feel fine about everything until it comes leading up to an appointment or scan and then I start to worry frantically!

gingermumi · 03/12/2007 15:15

Thanks PK, Egg and Gill, glad it's not just me.

Am so knackered have come home from work early (they're being very good about pregnancy and probs). Keep feeling sick again, I think it's because I'm sooo tired. My friend's sister (due end Jan) had her baby at weekend - how scarey's that? On that note any news on mini and Ladle? I hope they're doing OK.

LOVEMYMUM · 03/12/2007 17:11

Ginger - i feel sick when i eat a lot, so i tend to eat little & often.

Tallulah - i also wake up with achy sides - i suppose its all the extra urine we have! (Sorry - TMI).

Caramel - oh dear!
I try to pace myself but when i have energy i just want to keep on going. Cleared out nursery room yesterday and have been tired all day today (and DH was the one doing all the lifting!!).

mutha2beagain · 03/12/2007 21:57

LOVEMYMUM Is that what the achy sides are all about? I've got exactly the same niggle.

Can't believe I'm in week 31 now and nesting preparations are underway.

Have developed obsession with cleaning out cupboards and ridding the flat with anything unwanted. Have this feeling that I'm not going to get round to any spring cleaning for at least the first 2 years of LO's life so I might as well get on with it while I've got the motivation....

V excited - new pram has arrived ... well nearly new as my friend with 3 month old has just passed it onto me as she's off to Australia and a black nylon pram is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard in Sydneys searing temparatures...!!

DS also seems to be exhibiting nesting instincts too.... cooing over little babygros and tiny toys. He's already asking if his little sibling can sleep in his Wendy castle with him...

Two more weeks of work to go and counting. Can't wait to just lie there watching daytime TV scoffing chocs for the last bit.

Scan last week showed renal pelvis still a little bit enlarged so fingers crossed this situation will right itself before the birth.
Not much I can do about it in the meantime so putting it to the back of my mind. Otherwise lo growing nicely.

Jo9977 · 04/12/2007 09:42

Thanks for all the support and encouragement everyone - still on my way up slowly! and hope all these pains, tiredness, niggles and whatnot pass for everybody!

Hope we hear from mini and ladle soon and they're ok.

Loved the ugly twin description!

leesmum · 04/12/2007 10:27

hi ladies,

just a quickie. Im getting stuff for my hospital bag and as im intending to BF again i was going to get some cream for cracked nipps to have just in case i need it. Some women recommend Lansinoh and others say Kamillosan, do any of you have any preference, is one better than the other?

Hmmm might post this on BF thread.

miniandme · 04/12/2007 12:36

Im still here !!!
Only just though, have been havign really strong contractions again from 3.30am managed to get back to bed abotu 7 when they eased a bit but am up again and they are slowly returning!!Also have the iriatation and nausea sometimes associated with early labour too.

Have clinic appointment today at 4 with consultant so going to ask if they will do examination to see if there is any dilation along with this or i just have o suffer the pains on and off till this pair make an entrance.
Local hospital will take premature deliveries from 32 weeks which is what im holding out to,well thast my first target at least then i know i wont be shipped out to the other side of the country somewhere .
Will try to keep updated but defo looks like these babies are making an apearrance some time soon.

Bessie123 · 04/12/2007 12:44

miniandme - glad to hear you're doing ok. I t hink the babies have a really good chance of survival now, you must be 31 weeks, right? Fingers crossed for you, and for ladle. x

caramelchewchew · 04/12/2007 13:05

good to hear from you mini! Hope you and the twins manage to hang in there just a bit longer. But as Bessie says, the twins have a great chance now I think. Hope the consultant appointment goes well. Best of luck - we're all thinking of you and ladle.

Feeling much better now. DH has been v lovely since the weekend and making sure I pretty much do nothing so think it prob scared him too! Slept wonderfully last night, makes such a difference!!
Hope some of the rest of you who were suffering are feeling better too.

Am finding it so hard to concentrate at work though. All I want to be doing is looking at baby websites/ day dreaming of finally meeting LO (in betwen panicking about the birth itself!!) and I've still got 8 weeks to go here! Anyone else having this trouble?

rozzyraspberry · 04/12/2007 13:18

Good luck with your appointment mini!!

Leesmum - I had terribly cracked nipples with ds1 and midwife strongly recommended lansinoh - was too late for me by then but had some for ds2 and got on much better. It's hard to say whether that was the cream or not but anyhow I've already stocked up on lansinoh cream and lansinoh breast pads (which are also really good if you get cracked nipples as they don't stick to you).

I too am nesting like mad. Had a busy day at work yesterday, went home got kids to bed then cleaned out my linen cupboard, a couple of kitchen cupboards and scrubbed the cot which DH had just got out of the garage. Feels a bit early for this but may as well do it whilst I have the energy I suppose!

Bessie123 · 04/12/2007 13:20

I heard scored cabbage leaves from the freezer are very good.

Lucyand2 · 04/12/2007 13:41

You know it's a good day when you manage to turn someones stomach!
I'd opt for Kamillosan but lansinoh is probably just as good. I had badly cracked nips and kamillosan calmed them down really quickly, you don't have to clean it off to feed either (or so my midwife said)
DD is ill with a cold again at the moment so I am absolutely exhausted as we're up all night with her coughing. I don't think i've been this tired since she first arrived
Today she threw a screaming fit when I tried to change her yukky nappy and we both ended up sobbing as she tried to bumshuffle poo everywhere, I think it was the longest nappy change of my life. She's a bit better after having a brief nap but I've had to stuff myself with cake & crisps to try and stay awake (she woke up just as I fell asleep)
Sorry for all the whinging!
On a positive note I've ordered all my fabulous cloth nappies!

leesmum · 04/12/2007 14:08

Mini we're all thinking of you and hoping that your twinnies can stay put for as long as possible. xxbig hugsxx

Oh lucy my son is toilet trained now so i dont have any more nappies to worry about(for now that is) but i do wish he'd have even a tiny nap so i could get my head down for a bit!! You forget about the sleepness nights until they are poorly and then it all comes back. i hope your DD gets better soon

thank for tips on cracked boobs, i have heard about cabbage leaves so thats worth remembering when the time comes.

I posted on BF and got some great advice, a lovely lady called Mossy is sending me some Lansinoh that she does'nt need..how nice is that.

Take care x

manamana · 04/12/2007 14:28

hi all and great to see you still here mini - hope the appt this afternoon goes well. Still no news from ladle though - hope that means she's resting up. I have finally handed in my laptop after 3 weeks of being signed off and trying to finish up things and create handover notes - a huge PHEW! think it may have made me more relaxed already too. yesterday was a rubbish day, in tears/uncomfortable/fed up all day and got nothing done (although did watch pride and prej with Keira Knightly, brilliant - she's a much better Elizabeth than Colin Firth's although the Darcey isn't in the same league). Today managed to get hardly any sleep between 4-7, woke up feeling really hungry and had to come and get a snack for first time, will be packing a midnight snack ox when i go to bed tonight! BUT after getting ds ready for nursery and waving ds and dh off had a lie in and a bath and am bursting with energy and getting lotsdone - allbeit in a v slow, hobbling manner but feel SO much better/happier - so thought I'd come and share .

Egg · 04/12/2007 14:57

Hello all and very good luck to mini. Fingers crossed for appt this afternoon. I am guessing if you are due same day as me that you will be 32 weeks on Saturday? Only a few more days to hold on so you can go to your local hospital. Also hope Ladlemonke is ok. I tend not to come on here when I am super tired so hope she is just resting.

Lansinoh is the cream I have always been recommended, although it never helped me, and my nips bled like buggers and I had a hole in the middle of one. My mum has since told me she is allergic to lanolin which might be something to do with it?!??!

Pk616 · 04/12/2007 14:57

mini, crossing everything for you and the bairns!

I'm knackered! I've had pleanty of sleep, I'm eating well, I'm back on my iron pills so I'm not anaemic...I'm just bleedin pooped!

OP posts:
Egg · 04/12/2007 15:08

I was gutted to find I was not anaemic as hoped I was as it would explain the ridiculous tiredness. So now I know it is just "normal" and I will be stuck with it til they come out.
