Hiya ladies,
Thought I'd start the new thread, hope you like the title! Best I could come up with I'm afraid!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LOVEMYMUM · 01/12/2007 18:13

Hi Joosey.

I want to start buying things for the baby so mat pads were the nearest i got to it!

Its ok to snooze. The best advice i've got (so far) is from my mother who said "When you have energy, do things, if not, rest, especially when you have the chance with no. 1!"

She also said to go round the shops in the first six months, cos last 3 months i'll be too tired after a little while of walking. She's right. I feel that i know what i want. all i have to do is sort out the house!

beansprout · 01/12/2007 18:20

I bought some pads the other day - it's the only thing I have done so far!!

jooseyfruit · 01/12/2007 18:25

wise words from your mum, lovemy. have been able to rest today as other two dc at their dads this weekend! bliss.

haven't bought pads yet but bought pack of teeny tiny nappies the other day. so cute and so tiny!!

planning home birth but guess i will have to pack bag just incase!

LOVEMYMUM · 01/12/2007 18:39

DEFINITELY pack hospital bag in case you have to transfer to hospital (sorry to be so negative!).

jooseyfruit · 01/12/2007 18:41

no you're not being negative lovemy (nice to see you on my no 2 thread!!) I will add bag packing to my huge list!!

LOVEMYMUM · 01/12/2007 18:46

I'm chucking things into an overnight case as i think of them (and read about it on mumsnet).

OK - i've got pregnancy brain - which thread am i posting on!?

jooseyfruit · 01/12/2007 18:50

fear of pooing whilst in labour, in childbirth topic!

LOVEMYMUM · 01/12/2007 18:59

Hey, if you wanna poo - do it!

beansprout · 01/12/2007 19:01

Toots memorably described her poo in labour as "a very ugly twin"

When you are doing it, you really won't mind too much, there's not much dignity to be had in labour!! My best moment was seven people looking up me at once!

jooseyfruit · 01/12/2007 19:03

oooh, i know!!
I just had visions of me having a lovely home birth, hopefully delivering whilst kneeling up, and then, horror of horrors, out plops a poop!!
I know i won't really care when it comes down to it!

jooseyfruit · 01/12/2007 19:05

love that description beansprout, pmsl

Slacker · 01/12/2007 19:05

I've never packed a hospital bag for any of my homebirths, the most I've done is have a few things (nappies, newborn clothes) in vaguely the same place that DH could probably put in a bag if necessary. Is this your first homebirth Joosey?

Pooing in labour - I always seem to spend my whole labour running to and from the loo, will be asking midwife if there's some enema type option that would ensure I had a good clearout and can then just stay in the pool this time. Will let you know if she has any good ideas!

jooseyfruit · 01/12/2007 19:07

thank you slacker!!
yes it's my first homebirth, am soooo excited about it!
looking forward to enema update!!

LOVEMYMUM · 01/12/2007 19:08

Gotta go now. DH will be back from swimming soon and i wanted to sort out the cr*p in the room we will use for the nursery.

beansprout · 01/12/2007 19:09

joosey - is that as in "poo myself laughing"?!

Aren't our bodies supposed to do a big poo clearout before we go into labour? I didn't go into labour properly last time so don't speak from experience!!

jooseyfruit · 01/12/2007 19:12

of course beansprout!!!!
i thought that was the reason spicy food is recommended, to get labour going by having a good clearout, and "making room" for baby to come out!
My dh's says he's "dropping the kids off at the pool" when he's off for a poo!the big freak!!!

pobletsmum · 01/12/2007 21:21

Hello everyone, I'm back. It has taken me a couple of days to catch up on all the messages, so please forgive the lack of personal updates. I have been lurking, but feeling pretty exhausted and often miserable, so have tended not to post.

Ladlemonke - I really hope you're hanging on in there. Very best wishes...

Miniandme - great news that you're home with the babes still cooking. Long may it last (but not too long!)

As for breastfeeding - Gill, as someone else said, you'll be able to feed your baby straight away, but at first it will just be colostrum (very special stuff, so even if you end up bottle feeding, the more colostrum you can feed your baby the better). On about day 3/4 your boobs will suddenly feel much fuller, and there will be 'proper' milk there. I remember taking breast pads to the hospital, but don't think I used them.

As for pooing in labour - I don't even know whether I did or not - I was kind of past caring!

I hope to keep up a bit better from now on. Only 3 more weeks at work...

pobletsmum · 01/12/2007 21:27

And Gill, while you're waiting for your milk to come in, if you still want to breastfeed, it's really important to avoid giving any bottles at all. The baby just needs to suck away, and your body will do the rest .

SallyInYorkshire · 02/12/2007 04:37

HOW RIDICULOUS is this. Have just had to get up at 4am to have breakfast because couldn't sleep for my stomach rumbling! This is despite having eaten (since lunch on Sat) half a packet of breadsticks, a bowl of fresh pasta as a mid-afternoon snack, and an enourmous jacket potato with masses of cheese and beans for supper.

Has anyone else done this? Am I going to be the size of a whale??? Am quite concerned!

jooseyfruit - hi! I live quite near you! don't worry I am not a stalker (amusing mental image of one whale-like 3rd trimester lady stalking another!). DH works at York Uni. Anyway do you have any tips as to where to buy good value baby stuff? Best I have found so far is Babyscene in Leeds, but that mainly sells the big-ticket items.

jooseyfruit · 02/12/2007 08:13

morning sally in yorkshire!!!
I've done a lot of shopping on-line to be honest. Got some ace bargains on e-bay.
As for clothes, tesco and asda can't be beaten for cheapness.
I'm not to bothered about second hand stuff (as long as it's clean!), got second hand car seat from friend (so know seat hasn't been involved in accident).

There isn't much in york to be honest, ck buggies on clifton moor sells big stuff at cheaper prices but tbh i found it to be cheaper on-line.
Matalan- 5 pairs of black knickers for 2.50, the best bargain i've found so far, great for after the birth, much nicer than paper kecks!!

Will have to check out babyscene, need to come to leeds for a primark run!!!

Anyway, all your talk of food has made me so hungry, i'm off to make cheese on toast.

Pk616 · 02/12/2007 08:42

Good morning ladies,
I hope you are all fine and dandy today, or at least feeling better than some of you have been of late.
I know, I'm sickeningly chipper today
I had a really rubbish nights sleep propped up on my ramp of pillows to readuce the dreaded indigestion! The oldest man tried to smother me with his pillow in the night, it wasn't intentional, he was fast asleep and sqwerming around like nobody's business and somehow one of his pillows ended up over my face! The main sleep disturber was a recurring dream. I kept on dreaming that I had started going into labour. It wasn't a horrid dream, I mean I wasn't panicing and there were no disasters, the dream didn't go past realising that I was having contractions whilst I was at home in the middle of the day. It's just that I dreamed it about six times throughout the night!
Even so I woke at 6 this mornig feeling chirpy and refreshed so I'm not complaining! Can't seem to get enema's out of my head for some reason!
The oldest man bought me a lovely new cardigan from Asda yesterday, bless his cottons, It's not designed for maternity but has four pleats just under the bust line so it goes over the bump perfectly with plenty of room for expansion. I saw it on a manikin and it looks great with out the gut too so it's a keeper, and a bargain at £12!
Going around the super, duper, extra huge Asda in Tipton yesterday nearly killed me! It's a good job the oldest man is understanding and we went as slow as I needed to go! I still forgot to buy sandwich bags though!
We weren't impressed when we got home though because the swines that live round here parked very inconsiderately and we had to park a very long way from the house. It took the oldest man four trips, carrying way too much at a time to get the shopping in and just as he got the last load in through the gate 3 cars pulled out from directly outside our house! That's inner city living for you!
Anyway, enough of my waffle, I'm off to wrap some christams pressies!

Perky and refreshed! Pah, whats wrong with pathetic and knackered?! Despite having more sleep than i usually manage still feel crap!

Have noticed LO not kicking as much - anyone else 31wks+ noticed this? Looked it up in baby book says not uncommon at this stage as there's less room, obvious really, just wondered if anyone esle same?

Pk616 · 02/12/2007 13:16

gingermumi, you may feel slightly better now as I'm quickly leaving the realm of chirpy and refreshed and sinking dismally into pathetic and knackered! must have been me dinner!

OP posts:
Slacker · 02/12/2007 18:25

Ginger - I'm 31 weeks today and baby's actually kicking more, really big kicks rather than just wiggling. It's alarming to think that they put on half a pound a week on average from now on...my bump is growing by the day!

Got yet another bloody cold but at least I'm sleeping ok, nearly fainted at school christmas fair yesterday but other than that I'm still feeling pretty good - people keep saying "oh I bet you can't wait", well actually yes I can wait quite easily, can't imagine anything worse than baby coming this side of christmas! Any time from mid January onwards would do though.
