Hiya ladies,
Thought I'd start the new thread, hope you like the title! Best I could come up with I'm afraid!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thanks for the list pobletsmum - really like the idea of keeping it small then loads of extras in the car on standby!

Hope you patch stuff up mana - not what you need right now!

Sitting here on first offical day of maternity leave wondering where my get up and go has got up and gone to...already feel lonely and bleagrh

Egg · 02/01/2008 13:55

Afternoon all. Glad everyone seems to be more or less ok.

Manamana I really feel for you, if it was your MIL it wouldn't matter so much, but to fall out with your own mum at this time must be very hard. I hope she comes to her senses soon.

Mini I am amazed you are still cooking those babies! I thought of you on New Years Eve as my dad pointed out to me that if I did go into labour and gave birth around midnight I could have one baby born in 2007 and one in 2008. I thought it was a real possibility for you!

I actually slept from 10pm to 6am last night. I think I woke up briefly once but only for a minute or two. This is unheard of. I had managed 4 hours the night before and 3 the night before that, but the bloody outlaws were here then and DS woke up 9 times screaming on one of those nights (probably having nightmares of MIL...).

Had scan on Monday, both still head down, Dory's head still engaged, Dory is approx 4lbs 7 and Nemo, who is clearly eating all the bad stuff with lots of fat, is 5lbs 8. These were v approx though as they were not in good measuring positions apparently.

Kat, so sorry about your DH's redundancy, I am already worrying that money could get a bit tight and (touch wood) DH's job is secure for now, although he is a contractor so never 100% secure (although who is these days?). Saw the lovely offers from some of the multiple mums on the other thread though, they are fab aren't they?

Right, must lie down, head is splitting.

mymissus · 02/01/2008 16:12

Am also feeling a bit out of sorts on first day of maternity leave...Just been to a baby shop to look for a changer/chest of drawers to fit in our little spare room/nursery. Came away wishing I could furnish a whole nursery but we are limited by space and money. Am very happy where we live but am now starting to realise how much you can buy - not that I will be!

I know I don't necessarily need a changing table but I do need some storage space for all the nappies, lotions etc so a combined dresser/changing table seems sensible? We have no other table or area in the bedroom for putting things on. Does the moses basket need to go against a wall - if so that messes up that plan anyway!!

LOVEMYMUM · 02/01/2008 16:42

Jo and mymissus - Maybe you just need to get used to being at home. It is a bit of a shock at first but is quite nice.

Mymissus - DH and i have bought a cot-top changer to go on top of the cot. When she sleeps in the cot we will have to take it off but she will be in my old pram at first. Moses basket may be a waste of money (£40 for basket, £60 for stand plus bedding) cos they grow out after a few months but it might be handy to have to move around the house. I think the Moses basket can be put anywhere. If you buy a buggy which lies flat then maybe your LO can sleep in it from day 1. Make sure it does lie flat, cos to be "suitable from birth", buggies can lie up to thirty degrees from horizontal.

I am using a plastic stacking chest of drawers from Argos for my changing things (nappies etc) and a repainted 3/4 height cupboard. It's tempting to have a picture-perfect nursery but i am starting off with the basics and then add on later. Especially if LO (who is probably a girl) wants everything pink and fluffy when she is three.

Bessie123 · 02/01/2008 16:52

Hi all, and happy new year.

DP and I are thinking about getting one of those Brevi changing and bathing stations but they are £85; does anyone know where we can get anything similar but a bit cheaper? It seems like an awful lot of money for what it is...

Egg · 02/01/2008 17:55

LOVEMYMUM, we had a cot-top changer for DS and kept it on the cot for the first six months or so as we got a cot divider so the cot didn't seem so HUGE when he was tiny (didn't have moses basket etc), so it meant he couldn't wriggle underneath the changer. I think it would have been a pain moving it underneath everytime, esp as sometimes you run in there with your baby leaking liquid poo and you can't put him / her down!

Do agree mymissus that you might as well buy a changing unit if you need shelves etc anyway. We had some crappy old shelves that did ok for nappies and wipes and stuff, they are still crappy and old but still going!

Egg · 02/01/2008 18:01

Bessie, Kiddicare have a Cossato one that is £70, and the Brevi ones are £80 not £85, but presume there is delivery charge (can't remember...). If you scroll down the link here you can see them.

Egg · 02/01/2008 18:02

this one at Mothercare is much cheaper too!

Egg · 02/01/2008 18:05

Oooh oooh, this one looks much better for same price as last one (£54.99).

mymissus · 02/01/2008 18:45

Thanks so much for all the recommendations - esp that last one Egg, it looks perfect! . I have bought some plastic stacking drawers in the B&Q sale which will take the baby's clothes, but I think the Babies r us changer will hold everything else? Luckily my mum kept the moses basket and stand which my older sister, me and my three cousins started in, and my aunt is re-covering the material, otherwise like you say the cot and cot top changer would have done beautifully.

princessllama · 02/01/2008 19:22

happy new year. am getting my knickers in a twist not being at home to nest. wanted to order some stuff from next with vouchers we have and it all went wrong. it didn't ask for voucher details when i ordered the stuff. now i discover i need to renew vouchers as out of date. can they deliver something to me then make me pay? anyone else had experience with them?
sorry about xmas mother disaster manamama-must be horrible feeling esp when this knackered.
i managed not to have a bust up with mil over xmas but only just!went slightly nutty when they came back with lo cheerily telling me how father christmas had given her a bright green lolly-she's only 14 months, she's never had a sweet before and i told them the night before when it came up by chance that she wasn't going to have sweets/chocolate til she was older, so not like they didn't know . ended up with me saying not happy about it. mil gave me lecture on how a little bit stops them from craving it all and me saying' well i'm her mother so it's my decision'. dh nearly fell off his chair round the corner. (she can be a bit scary and no one ever stands up to her normally ).

pobletsmum · 02/01/2008 19:59

princessllama - completely understand the green lolly thing. As for Next, as far as I know, you can return the whole order by any method and you won't have to pay anything, not even original delivery charge. You would then need to re-order once you've got the voucher problem sorted out. Otherwise you do have to pay delivey charge (even if you only keep 1 item). Could you not sort out the voucher problem before payment is due? If you have a directory account, you get a certain number of days before having to pay. If you haven't got a directory account, I can't help, sorry. Good luck!

Lucyand2turtledoves · 02/01/2008 20:09

Happy New Year everyone!
Only got back from my parents today and it is lovely to be home, I forgot how much still needs organising though. My mum bought me a lovely bag for hospital which DD promptly scribbled on with a biro
I'm not sleeping very much at all, gaviscon isn't working and I'd be happy to give birth tomorrow (just as soon as I've got some sleep)

manamana · 02/01/2008 20:22

hi all, thanks for messages, am feeling pretty low about it all - mum rang today and left a message acting as if nothing had happened so she's gonna get a suprise when she gets my letter telling her how much she's upset me. Princessllama - your MIL sounds v similar, completely understand about the lolly and noone standing up to them. The 'You're not his mum' sentence passed my lips recently as well, she accidentally refers to herself as 'mummy' far too often for my liking.
Kat - meant to say what rubbish news for you and dh, hope doesn't put the pair of you under too much extra pressure.
We've had a good nesting day today - dh has put up a shelf in spare room/nursery and I have managed to reassemble newly washed pram part of buggy and new mattresses ordered so at least baby will have something to sleep in!

brusselbeansprouts · 02/01/2008 21:06

Hi everyone.
Mana - sorry to hear about your mum, not what you need at the moment.

First day on mat. leave today. Am really beginning to struggle now that dh has gone back to work, as am still not sleeping very well. It's dragging me down as being this tired is just not funny!

Growth scan is on Friday. Pretty much d-day in terms of deciding whether or not I have a section or go for a VBAC..... gulp!!

ExpectingKat · 03/01/2008 06:34

elo all
another early morning! DS awake at 5 as he's got a nasty cough. DD2 is back to school today (only found out last night lol) then DD1 tomorrow, which i think DS will miss havin then around again.
Yes egg they are great I was lost for words, I can't tell you how much I appreciated their offers!
Thanx manamana, i was worried it would affect my blood pressure but everything seems to be going good so far (fingers crossed) just taking day by day now, the more worried I appear the worse DH is.
Got my cot now and have ordered pram so feel much better than am gettin organized, 1 minute feel like got loads of time left next it feels like could happen tomorrow.
I was hoping at my last scan they would give me an estimate of the babies weight but none so far, it would be nice to have a bit of a clue. DH just keeps looking at my bump and shaking his head with a smirk on his face, i mite just hit him next time lol
take care all

sarahmikeandharry · 03/01/2008 10:03

Good moring all

Just thought i wouls say hi, and se if anyone feels exhausted!!!! i am 35+4today!!!!

I can hardly keep my eyes open!!!!!!

DS woke at 4am- had wild paddy and screamed till about half 5 as he wanted to come in mommys bed!!!! i did not cave in and DH got cross as he has work!!!! then is van wouldn't start- not a good start to the day!!!lol

However i got up at 7am, as ds has nursery at 9am had to wake him at 8am!!! another paddy as he is tired!!!! argghhhhh

i am say with cup of tea and toasted teacake !!!! going to see MW at 11-15- will let you know any developments!!!!

Egg · 03/01/2008 10:11

Kat did you check your notes? They never actually tell me the weights, but at the bottom of each twins scan results they put an estimated fetal weight (always in kg to confuse me...).

Beany, I really feel for you, at the mo I am feeling better and less tired but I have been so exhausted on some days it is a struggle to keep DS amused without resorting to round the clock tv. And the more he watches the more he expects, and the worse his behaviour is if he doesn't get it. Am trying to be very firm with him. We went on two very long walks yesterday (for him) and so he was out of the house, enjoying himself, keeping fit and no TV! Thankfully he only has little legs so it was a slow walk for me. He is back at nursery today and will now do FULL DAYS two days a week, so although I was desperate to get the babies out a week or two ago, I am now hoping they stay put another week or two.

Princess, am in total agreement about the green lolly. I just posted on another thread yesterday about my MIL buying DS a 250g bag of chocolate and giving it to him directly (he is only 22 months), she always brings him industrial amounts of chocs and although I do let him have a bit of chocolate I give it to him when he has eaten a good meal already or as a special treat, not just to scoff and be sick on. Am very wary of things like green lollies, DS does not have sweets at all yet, and I will avoid them as long as I can. Chocolate is somehow better in my book!

Egg · 03/01/2008 10:14

Hi Sarah, did not see your message before I posted. Good luck with midwife. You must be due day after me I think as I am 35+5 today.

Why is it that the DCs tend to sleep later on days they go to nursery? My DS was awake before 7 today and has gone to nursery, but usually he seems to choose those days as his lie ins for some reason, and he is then late for nursery as I wont wake him up (he can be at nursery 8am to 6pm but seeing as I don't work I usually take him by 9am).

Right I MUST go and hoover etc. It is a SHITE HOLE in my house.

jooseyfruit · 03/01/2008 10:39

hi ladies, happy new year.
Saw MW yesterday, am 36+4 and head is engaged (yesss!!)

Can deliver at home from 37 weeks (next monday) so may start "taking measures" to prompt lo into arriving, because i don't think i could stand another month of this!

fresh pineapple anyone?

Am off to try and not fall over in the lovely snow that is coating this part of the world!! It looks so pretty.

widgetsmummy · 03/01/2008 11:15

Speaking of measures to start LO's moving, any thoughts on raspberry leaf tea? Got given some for Christmas and to my surprise doesn't say on it when you can start drinking it...

Egg · 03/01/2008 11:23

I still cant remember when you can start taking it, I think it might be 36 weeks. I started at 37 last time but I know my sis took it much earlier with all her three. I have been taking the tablets for a week (reputed not to be as good as the tea, I have the tea but can't be bothered to boil the kettle...).

Egg · 03/01/2008 11:26

Aha, decided to Google it. This article says from 32 weeks one cup a day, gradually increasing to four cups a day. So GET DRINKING NOW!

widgetsmummy · 03/01/2008 11:52

Thanks Egg - I'll try it. Just hope it doesn't make heartburn worse - normal tea is strictly off limits!

Egg · 03/01/2008 12:07

Believe me it has little in common with normal tea. Normal tea is nice!!!!!!
