I was so washed out with cold yesterday that I couldn't even be arsed to reheat chilli. We had take away. How lazy is that? I have just demolished half a large box of short bread too. I resolve to eat veg tonight. Well, I did have a satsuma to try and couter balence the good / bad thingy. (hopeful smiley)

brusselbeansprouts · 23/12/2007 19:43

I am also placing a great deal of faith in the odd satsuma at the moment...!

saskia71 · 23/12/2007 23:16

Mutha2beagain ? Oh my goodness, your poor cat. I hope that the vet manages to save the eye. It must be so distressing for you as well. It doesn?t seem quite appropriate to wonder on to another topic, but you did ask about recovering a B&B sofa. Although I have never done this, if it was my sofa I would phone B&B Italia and see if they would be able to provide a set of new cushions in the original fabric. There should be no technical reason not to be able to do this. After all, since they still manufacture the original sofa , they should be able to do the cushions only. By the way, which sofa do you have? (Their sale starts in early Jan, so you will get 10% off). The Rug Company has some lovely pieces. If your fabric is neutral/muted, you can always buy some scatter cushions in your rug?s colours and have them as accents on the sofa. John Lewis (Oxford St) and Peter Jones always have scrumptious colours and textures. The colours in your house sound so vibrant and alive.

Lovemymum ? The nursery will have white walls and white furniture (kidsmill). The floor will be dark, (a wide plank black American walnut, which is really a deep chocolate colour) and I have chosen a walnut shelving unit to go above the chest of drawers. I will have a row of stainless steel pegs under the shelves and will be hanging colourful items from these pegs. I already have some glass sailing boats glazed in different colours. I read somewhere that babies are stimulated by contrasts when very young, so the art work on the walls will be a series of large black and white photographs courtesy of my husband (a keen amateur photographer). I know what you mean about not wishing your DH to see the business end of the birth. I have given mine strict instructions to stay by the top end of the screen.

Pk616 ? Oh no, another cat disaster. How is Minya doing? She must be traumatised, any ideas how she got drenched in diesel? I hope that you manage to wash it all off.

There was a query about hiccups the other day. I asked my cons in fetal medicine about it because my baby had hiccups during my last scan, and it was amazing seeing it on the screen.. He said it was in preparation for breathing in the outside world. He also said the strongest babies practice, so nothing to worry about. As for me, the baby spends most of its time kicking and stretching and it is rather uncomfortable at times. I hope that everyone is having a super Christmas.

leesmum · 24/12/2007 09:43

morning all! Merry Christmas!

thought I would post (from work, boo hiss) to wish everyone a lovely day tomorrow.

am ok although also had a tearful moment after being a horribe DH having had heartburn all day Sat. just felt rather fed up with the whole thing and getting quite nervous about birth. not fought like that for ages!

DH offered to try the massage thing but not sure how I feel about it! dignity really goes out the window with pregnancy and well sex has also gone out the window, so not sure if it will be a bit awkward...

am trying to create a serene place inside ready for two days with MIL (who has already txted me twice today with things not to forget - I'm sorry how old am I?). its just two days and then 4 with my lovely mummy - yay!

really hope everyone, LOs and cats stay healthy and will look forward to hearing all your adventures when we get back. it will be 2008 and all those babies are going to arrive! xxx

doubleEGGnog · 24/12/2007 13:10

Hello all. Just a quickie to say Merry Christmas to everyone, I will be offline for a few days with the family here (arrival imminent).

Thought I was in labour last night but turned out to be a false alarm. I didn't ever quite think it was actually happening as it was so different to last time but did have some painful contractions in the night and felt a lot of pressure in bottom. Feel ok-ish today but struggling to do anything, getting the turkey this morning was a real challenge.

Anyway, hope everyone has a fab few days

violeta · 24/12/2007 14:49

Just coming on to wish everyone a happy, relaxed, stressfree Christmas!
Look after yourself everyone!

jooseyfruit · 24/12/2007 16:18

mutha2beagain · 24/12/2007 20:58

Hi everyone,

DS just brimming over with excitement today - took him to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park just to get him into Xmas overdrive - so decided to try and stem the pre-Christmas
incessant pestering and let him open one present so now he is happily ensconced on his new Wii console playing bowling with MIL. Well that's one way for me to get out of making conversation.

Interspersed with today's last minute xmas dash I've had to take my cat back to the vet for an eye scan - they were concerned that it might be a tumor. Luckily nothing found like that but the eye is showing signs of glaucoma so I've been given a battery of drops and will be intensively treating him over the next three days to see if they can reduce the pressure in the eye. If that works out, then they won't need to operate but if it doesn't improve then they'll be taking it out just after Xmas. My poor little boy - hope his brother won't reject him or anything like that as they are inseparable. So that's the cat situation.

Saskia - my B&B furniture is the malacorte armchair and baisity sofa - both of which I think are now discontinued (purchased in late 90s) so it may not be possible to get B&B to do covers but it's worth a try. It could be difficult to get another firm to replicate the detail of the upholstery exactly but I'll get in touch and see what they say. V. excited about prospect of a new rug, have been lusting after rug company designs for a while now!!

Tyaca - I'm sorry to hear that you are having troubles but it sounds like you're in a good place to get help now that it's out in the open with your DH. I hid ridiculous amounts of debt from my DH for years until I was rumbled owing to overspending on my CCs and it was so much better for that not to be a secret in our marriage any more and we worked through it together and now it's all behind us. I'm sure you'll be able to do the same and it sounds like your DH has a good heart and will be supportive and understanding.

On the subject of hiccups, my lo is at it relentlessly and it is irritating especially when you consider that the head is in the docking position. Interesting to hear that this is their way of priming themselves for breathing after birth - I've not heard that one before!!

Have a confession to make - I think I know what DH is giving me for Xmas ..... wait for it ..... a Kitchenaid!!! Great gadget although it is, I can't say I'm that over the moon and God knows when or how he thinks I'll have the energy to be deploying it to its maximum use in the coming months. I think the most sophisticated kitchen machinery I'll be operating is the microwave if you get my drift.

Anyway consoled myself with the furtive online purchase (yes, old habits die hard) of a new handbag (at half price) quickly before they ran out. Have had my eye on it for ages... yay!!

Well merry Christmas to all you ladies and have a lovely day tomorrow. I do have a bit of cooking to do which I don't mind but as there's only six of us round the table it will not be a mammoth task to do turkey and all the trimmings........ hopefully

brusselbeansprouts · 25/12/2007 12:24

Happy Christmas!!

LOVEMYMUM · 25/12/2007 14:05

Hi everyone.

Will post properly when brain working properly.

Merry Christmas to you, DH's, DP's, LO's and the rest of the family.

Just a quick word about the Brevi bath changer from Mothercare. The changing mat lifts up to reveal the bath. Don't bother buying it. DH put it together and it's going back to Mothercare: It's too high ( I'm 5 ft 6) and you have to be strong to release the mechanism to release the changing mat, which only flips up - it doesn't remove from the unit. I was worried that the mat may fall on the baby.

Saskia - the room sounds lovely. I think we will go to MFI. Off to Google it now!

bluedomino · 26/12/2007 01:06

Happy Christmas everyone! I had some shinny things from DP & DD so I'm really happy, coz it doesn't matter how fat you are, you can always wear jewellrey!

Lovemymum, I had a wooden changing table with a bath in it for DD (bath removed later), it was under duress as my mum insisted. It is the best thing ever, still using table dozens of times a day. I had a horrible birth and the DD was very unwell, I think it really helped me bond with her, as she was up close to me without me being in pain bending over. Worth a bit extra getting a wooden rather than a plastic one. I had it next to the cot and with a cot top changer it made bathtimes much easier. I'm a shortarse at 5'3".

gingermumi · 26/12/2007 10:07

Hope everyone had a lovely day and chrimbo warmth and cheer continues a bit longer - personally, i hate fact that it all seems to be over on one day (god, i'm getting old!)and already shops are going crazy again. Had lots of lovely pressies, no jewels though! but lovely things none the less - i once thought dh had bought me a necklace or similar, am a terrible pressie rattler! Looked forward to opening gift for weeks and when i did.....it was packets of seeds in a box!! That'll teach me! he wasn't trying to catch me out or anything, he just does things like that, some pressies can be a bit odd! The flowers all had romantic names which was point of pressie. Bless him.

hope all babies and cats ok.

SallyInYorkshire · 26/12/2007 18:04

Hi all,

Hope you all had a lovely christmas. I had a great time. Although I did have a whole load of conversations that went:

Other person: Have you got X for the baby?
me: no
Other person: Have you got Y for the baby?
me: no
Other person: Have you got Z for the baby?
me: no

So I have resolved to do a spot of shopping at the weekend - either in real life or online. Anyone know of any good sales in baby-related shops? I do know Blooming Marvellous has 70% off some lines (and not just the Christmas theme stuff either).

Which reminds me. What is this business about "breastfeeding tops"? Are they really necessary? What is wrong with having a normal top (maybe one of the bigger maternity type tops, or ones that unbutton at the top) and pulling it up when it's time to breastfeed? Any opinions?

ladlemonke · 26/12/2007 23:58

Evening! Hope this finds you all happy and rested...
...and that goes double for you mini, egg and you other twin-expectors!

Have never been a big fan of the christmas hysteria season (ya boo humbug), so at least this year have had a reasonable excuse not to get too involved. Spent a lovely day in the neonatal unit yesterday with the girls, and i'm really happy to say that they are both doing really well so far. Each little bit of progress is moving in the right direction....and i got to have my first cuddle with Orly yesterday!!!
So strange to have to wait nearly three weeks for something so basic but important. I hope you all get to hold your little ones as soon as possible after birth.

Have added a coupla pics to the profile...

brusselbeansprouts · 27/12/2007 07:50

Ladle - wow, thanks for posting the photos. So glad to hear they are both doing well. May you have many more cuddles very soon.

Sally - lol at your baby items conversation! To date I have.... one packet of nappies. Er, that's it!
As for b/feeding tops, well, I'm not sure about them. As you say, you really don't need them but I suppose the advantage is that you are not pulling up your top and revealing your post pregnancy tummy so they are a bit more discrete. That said, stomach tends to be covered by baby or a well positioned blanket etc anyway, so I never felt the need to pay a lot of money for some not very nice tops!

My insomnia is hitting new lows. Am really struggling with lack of sleep atm and it's getting me down. At least dh is off work, otherwise I don't think I would be managing... Bah to late pregnancy!!

leesmum · 27/12/2007 08:22

Ladle ahhh your girls are beautiful, how lucky you and your dp are, and dont worry it wont be long until you are holding them all the time!! How long will they have to stay in for?

Sally the bottom of Ds wardrobe is full of nappies/cotton wool/nappy sacks etc, i've done really well getting stuff but just before christmas my sis gave me a morrisons saving card with 100 pounds on it to stock up with baby things. You see all you ladies having twins and especially ladle thats the sort of thing identical twins do, we are allways puting each other first (apart from Dc that is)

Good morning beansprout, i too am having trouble sleeping it doesn't help that Ds came into our room this morning at 2am asking me to read gruffalo's child and asking when the baby will be ready to play with him. He reckons he will share all his cars....We'll see....

Hope everyone had a lovely christmas xx

doubleEGGnog · 27/12/2007 09:10

Ladle! You and your lovely girls are ok!!!!!! I am such a worrier, as you were so quiet (obviously a bit busy!) I worried something was wrong, they are so teeny and gorgeous. Congrats again on doing so well and making them strong enough to cope with an early arrival.

Christmas was lovely here, really fab as my mum and sis did most of the cooking and all the kids (mine and sis's) were well behaved. Everyone has gone now and DH is back at work so just me and DS today, although we have friends popping in for tea and cake later for an hour or two.

Breastfeeding tops... I had a couple last time but didn't find them any easier / better than a normal top. And a lot of them look so obviously like breastfeeding tops too. I certainly wouldn't say they are essential.

DS is trying to press buttons so will post this before he deletes it! Back later!

jooseyfruit · 27/12/2007 09:21

Ladle- your girls are beautiful, so glad you are all doing well.

Sally- I've got bump bands from topshop (£5 each) and am planning on wearing them underneath normal tops whilst bf'ing to cover wrinkly tummy!!

Hope everyone had good xmas.

MERLYPUSSEDASAFART · 27/12/2007 09:50

Ladle - cute piccies.
I am just about getting over my chest infection and intend to fully pig out in time for my next scan (31st Dec) so that the twinnies have gained weight by then as I feel I have eaten very littles the past week and dont want them to have suffered. Have to start back on the pints of full fat milk that I was avoiding due to cough.
Hope everyone 'bumpy' one got goodies. I have more pressies to come today as we split the crimbo celebrations between 3 sisters and dad's place and have our respective pressies at each others houses.
Off to buy crusty bread for bubble and squeak sarnies for the hoards. Catcha later.

rozzyraspberry · 27/12/2007 16:13

Ladle, I'm glad you're all doing well! I can't imagine how difficult that must have been not being able to cuddle Orly but I'm sure that now that you can her progress will accelerate from having mummys cuddles!!

I wouldn't bother with breastfeeding tops personally. One of the mums at a mother and toddler group I used to go to had one and it just looked plain weird. I'm sure you get some nicer ones but a normal top will do fine and there are other things I'd rather spend the money on!

Hope everyone had a nice christmas. DS1 and DS2 are happily playing with their new toys so things are relatively peaceful here at the moment which is good!

LOVEMYMUM · 27/12/2007 16:42

Blue domino - where did you get the wooden unit from? Sounds good.

Ladle - lovely to hear from you. So pleased the girls are ok.

Sally - i've went to my local John Lewis today and got baby flannels and towels on special offer: 3 flannels for £2 and 3 towels for £10. Didn't see any real bargains in Mothercare. Had hoped for more discounts.

I also bought 2 dressing gowns in M&S (£9 down from £18) for the hospital and afterwards, and 2 nightdresses. Another mother told me that she found the dressing gown more useful, cos it was easier to open for breastfeeding (but does it stay shut!)??
