@HopefulB I have to roll onto my back for a while because of all the neck pain but when I do it’s as you said I get very short of breath and it brings on a coughing fit

My fingers didn’t swell noticeably but I never fit back into my wedding rings after first pregnancy even though I lost all the weight and a little extra ☹️

PurplePansy05 · 21/07/2021 20:04

@HopefulB I get that too. I can't stay on my back at all in fact, I feel like there's not enough air in my lungs and the bump isn't comfortable either. I've been like this for a long time. It's gone better once the bump has dropped a bit, but I still can't do it for longer than just a few mins.

So because I've been a hermit throughout the pregnancy, I'm in need of some beauty appointments, I've been thinking about booking them for later in August, sort of like once a week for 30-45 mins local to me, when DH is off obvs. Am I being way too optimistic that I might be able to get out for that length of time with a newborn at home? xx

lucyrp · 21/07/2021 20:34

@PurplePansy05 I'll be taking my baby with me to any of my beauty appointments but may have to ask a friend to come to the first few xx

PurplePansy05 · 21/07/2021 20:45

@lucyrp I'm thinking DH could take him for a walk nearby just in case and bring him in if allowed. However, I am desperate to have a facial and so I would be out of action for 30-45 mins during this one xx

BertieBotts · 21/07/2021 20:47

Defo not until the end of breastfeeding!

I want to say immediately when the pregnancy ends the swelling ends but to be honest I can't remember. Certainly no more than a few days/weeks. It's to do with the extra fluid in your system so it might stay until lochia ends? Not sure sorry!

I don't think leaving the house for an hour or so is unreasonable when you have a newborn. Although you might find you don't want to. I think it can be quite a good thing to do, so that Dad gets a chance to try out different kinds of settling etc if the baby gets upset. If you feed just before you go then you don't need to worry that they will need feeding when you're gone if you don't want bottles given to undermine breastfeeding. But I think you should probably wait and see how you feel, maybe book them closer to the time in case your mobility is a bit slower than you'd like post section.

BertieBotts · 21/07/2021 20:48

Oh sorry crossposted. If DH can take you and bring you home then that sounds absolutely fine :)

lucyrp · 21/07/2021 20:48

@PurplePansy05 yeah I get my lashes done every 2 weeks so completely out of action when get that done so hoping it will be okay xx

PurplePansy05 · 21/07/2021 20:53

Thanks girls, I think I needed a confidence boost 😊 I know the therapists so I will book now and can always reschedule if needed, we have good relationships 😊 I think a bit of TLC post partum will do me good, it will be my early bday present to myself xx

Daffodil21 · 21/07/2021 21:20

I'm planning on going for a swim 2-3 evenings a week once we've found our feet 😂😂 I know I know... very naive first timer here!!!!

Is anyone else really struggling to sleep in bed? I try and get to sleep up there every night and fail, then when I come downstairs I always manage to get a good few hours on the couch but I just can’t get comfy in bed at all, it’s very strange!

Smurf123 · 22/07/2021 00:35

My wedding rings have been off for a good while now .. if I remember right I was able to wear them again fairly soon after ds birth

Well I'm back in admissions with reduced movements.. been here since 9
Phoned them at 7 they told me to drink water and lie down for an hour then turn on loud music and dance for 30 mins .. that's a new one for me

Anyway since being here I've been getting tightenings which were really obvious on the ctg. midwife happy with baby on ctg but then she felt some of the tightenings so she did an exam and a sweep too said I'm about 2cm but could be hours or days or longer before anymore.. now waiting to see a dr re the baby movements though they said they are happy enough with the ctg for it.

Smurf123 · 22/07/2021 00:37

@notinthestarsigns the upstairs in our house is boiling .. by bedtime the living room is much cooler

My hips and leg keep going numb with me lying on my side so I'm up a lot when I do get to sleep

PurplePansy05 · 22/07/2021 00:43

They cannot be bloody serious about this music and dancing @Smurf123 Hmm glad you went in and you're being checked over. 2cm, wow, maybe you'll be the first one in our group! How exciting xx

Aaaaa1519 · 22/07/2021 00:44

@Smurf123 hope everything goes well and baby is ok
Go with your instincts midwives always seem to say it’ll be ages & it’s not always the case. Good luck x

Smurf123 · 22/07/2021 00:56

I know @PurplePansy05 I thought that too but I have to say the midwife I saw when I came in has been lovely and reassuring that it was the right thing to come in. She also said she would have liked to give me stronger painkillers but can't as I drove here myself and at 2cm I'll be likely sent home again after seeing dr for now. Though I'm not sure I want to drive right now they are fairly constant.

@Aaaaa1519 I hope it's not long tbh, midwife asked if I wanted a sweep while she was there so said yes and she has done that too to see if it can help things along

I just want baby to be here now healthy and safely!

BertieBotts · 22/07/2021 01:10

Oooh that's exciting and with a sweep too!

I can't sleep well in bed either, unless it's the middle of the day or the morning after DS and DH leave for nursery.

Smurf123 · 22/07/2021 01:37

So I'm being admitted to a ward and induced as soon as a delivery suite bed is available- they weren't happy with baby movements on the scan though they said the heart rate is fine
Currently sat in the corridor waiting on Covid test result and to be moved to a ward

Smurf123 · 22/07/2021 01:40

This wasn't how I thought tonight would go . I nearly didn't come over. Im so scared
Initially he said as I was term he would book me for induction in a few days as ctg was fine then he did scan and all of a sudden it was that I was staying to be admitted and induced ASAP . There just aren't any beds available right now

BertieBotts · 22/07/2021 01:55

Oh no, don't be scared! Well, completely normal to feel blindsided and emotional being told you're not going home without a baby. It will be OK. I'm awake and can't sleep so can hand hold for a bit if you want.

Is someone allowed to come in and be with you or only once you're in active labour?

BertieBotts · 22/07/2021 01:58

Induction is very much not a "we need to panic now" situation. If they were that concerned, they would have taken you for a c section, so I expect the baby is absolutely fine and induction is more of a precaution than a necessity.

If someone is able to come and support you, take your time to breathe and ask for a list of anything you think you'll need. It's likely once they're in they won't be able to leave and come back. So anything you want for labour and immediately postpartum.

Smurf123 · 22/07/2021 01:59

Thanks @BertieBotts
They have said they will be bringing me to break waters as soon as they have a bed so can't have anyone here at until i move to delivery suite which could be anytime or could be tomorrow morning !

I'm also feeling really guilty I won't be there when ds wakes up. 😩 I know he will be ok and it can't be helped but he will give off because he can't find me.

Smurf123 · 22/07/2021 02:01

My list to dh is growing .. I had my hospital bag in the car but ofc I didn't bring a phone charger or earphones as I didn't expect to need them .. oh and the bottle of lucozade from the fridge
I'm sure there's more I have forgotten

Smurf123 · 22/07/2021 02:04

Thank you @BertieBotts that's reassuring about induction over c section .. and as much as I kinda knew that it's reassuring to have someone say it out loud!

BertieBotts · 22/07/2021 02:26

Ah I know! I want to be able to let DS2 know what will be happening as well not just disappear. But you've been talking to him about you having the baby I'm sure, so it won't be a big shock for him. He'll be OK especially with your DH there for him. You can also do a little video call once he wakes up if you are feeling up to that.

Try and get some rest if you can before things get going. If you're hungry see if the midwives can dig you out any snacks! When I was admitted to A&E some years ago and missed dinner, a brilliant nurse went and raided the leftover lunch boxes for me and found me a tuna sandwich, some orange juice and 2 chocolate bars :o she was so nice and right at the end of her shift but she took the time to come and sit with me even though she must have just wanted to get home.

BertieBotts · 22/07/2021 02:29

If you can't sleep maybe try a hypnobirthing meditation or similar. There are some you can download or listen to via Spotify or YouTube. You could see if they have any headphones to buy or borrow.
