I'm just waiting for my birth planning appointment. Been a total nightmare today! Couldn't find my documents last night so didn't get to bed until late. Then DS2 was up half the night and didn't want me to leave his bedside. Then I had to get up really early and get a tram all across town. Tram was predictably late, originally by 10 mins which crept up to 20. Then they're doing construction by the hospital so I had to walk all the way around it instead of just coming directly to the side that I needed. And then last night DS1 showed me a tick bite that has started to go red so I need to get him a doctors appointment. And his doctor is closed and their holiday replacement info isn't on their mobile site 🙄 by the time I got here I was desperate for a wee! And my hips are unhappy so I keep making little pain noises when I adjust in my chair which alarms people.

Ready2020 · 19/07/2021 09:10

Oh dear @BertieBotts not a great start to the day. Watch those hips. Ticks are nasty creatures. I almost ate one once by accident...

My cold has turned into a sinus infection (all my colds do. I have a deviated septum that the NHS said they won't operate on as it doesn't effect my day to day life 😏) and I'm coughing so much and so hard I'm worried what it's doing to the baby. Had a crap night of being up coughing and there yes so much gunk in my sinuses. No idea if I'm allowed sudafed so will need to check with midwife.

PurplePansy05 · 19/07/2021 09:24

Thanks @BertieBotts! I'm going to see it, and hopefully buy it tonight. It looks very decent in photos and the lady seems nice too, an absolute bargain - £20. If the cushion and the mechanism are still good then that's amazing! 🤞

Sounds like you're having one of those days when every little thing goes wrong! I've had way too many of them recently, it just wears you out, doesn't it. Sounds like a cup of (iced?) tea is in order, you need 15 mins to yourself later xx

Magik01 · 19/07/2021 10:10

@lucyrp the woman’s just contacted me saying she’s just plugged it in to charge it as I wanted to see it working before I paid and it’s stopped charging! Luckily it’s only just in warranty So elvie are sending her a brand new mains bit. If she still wants £60 I think I will bite her hand off!

@BertieBotts sounds like you’ve had a nightmare already today! Try and take it easy. Flowers

@PurplePansy05 £20 sounds like a bargain if it’s in good nick!

It’s another hot day ladies. 🥲 my DS didn’t go to sleep until 10 last night because it was just too warm!

Whatshouldbemyusername · 19/07/2021 11:14

Morning ladies.

It's super hot so just keep cool. My feet are starting to swell up and I'm just very uncomfortable

@BertieBotts hope you get some rest today x

@Ready2020 sorry about your sinus infection. Hope you can take Sudafed to ease the discomfort

@PurplePansy05 that's a bargain! I want a Tripp trapp so if anyone knows anyone selling second hand please let me know. I am watching one on eBay anyways

PurplePansy05 · 19/07/2021 11:17

@Whatshouldbemyusername Sorry, I was on about a nursing chair, not a high chair 🙈 Too many chairs! xx

BertieBotts · 19/07/2021 11:20

OMG. So just while I was waiting on the waiting room, I felt the baby do a huge flip. They then gave me a routine scan as part of the preparation and said oh, he's gone bum down! Shock

Who knew that could even happen at 36 weeks?! :o I said straight away I don't want to attempt a vaginal breech birth, so I'm now undecided between ECV and ELCS / waiting to see if he decides to turn back by himself?!

I can't decide whether I'm bothered about the idea of an elective section or not. In some ways I quite like the idea of skipping labour... On the other hand, the recovery and potential risks.

lucyrp · 19/07/2021 11:25

Have been living in flip flops all weekend as my feet started to bulge out between the two straps on my Birkenstock's, went to put my work shoes on this morning and couldn't 😳😩

Daffodil21 · 19/07/2021 11:35

@BertieBotts whaaat?! He literally turned in the waiting room?! What are the chances! I guess it's better then because now you know you can plan for it!

I'm personally hoping for an ELCS straight off, so I'm probably not the best person to comment. I guess you already have children as well which would make recovery trickier? Tricky one to weigh up!

OP posts:
PurplePansy05 · 19/07/2021 11:47

Yep, Bertie, I agree with Daffodil21 personally no concerns about the recovery, having spoken to my mum and friends the recovery after a planned section is likely far better than after an emergency one, but the statistics mix up the two so we don't exactly get a clear picture.

It's ultimately up to you - if you're comfortable with ECV and would rather try vaginally if it works, then go for it 😊 I'm just saying that I really don't believe post-planned section recovery is that bad having spoken to many women who had it. So either way, all the options are on the table for you, go with what you're comfortable with. He's a cheeky little one to flip himself like this now! 😆 xx

BertieBotts · 19/07/2021 12:21

Yep, I ideally don't want to be separated from my toddler for too long although a couple of days would probably be fine. DH will be home of course.

Those Clexane injections are really bothering me which is probably silly :o It's just I had to have one several years ago and it was so bad that I cried in fear all night and then begged the doctor not to make me have any more and they agreed but only if I could walk around! I don't think they'd agree to that after a c-section would they??

Daffodil21 · 19/07/2021 12:35

@BertieBotts I was just about to reassure you about the clexane and say it sting the first couple of goes but after then it's ok! But sounds like it's different for everyone! I don't think they're alllllwats prescribed following CS but may be wrong. Might be worth asking if there's an alternative now to help you decide?

alittlexmasmagic · 19/07/2021 12:49

@BertieBotts I'm not loving the idea of an ELCS either but I'll not have the support at home and my EMCS recovery hurt.
I had Fragmin injections and they weren't that bad to be honest. Have them in your abdomen, not your thigh and it's much more comfortable. I hated the the thought of self-injecting or DH doing them but was totally fine with HCAs x

Daffodil21 · 19/07/2021 13:08

I used to absolutely hate needles but having to self inject clexane cleared up that fear!!

@BertieBotts naughty little baby! I had an ecv last time and although it didn’t work I’m glad I tried. Depends how much you want to try for a vaginal birth I suppose. My ELCS as I’ve said before was very positive and calm. I could have gone home after 24 hours too so not all that different from some vaginal births. My recovery was fine but honestly recovery with a toddler is what’s making me go for a vbac this time around even though I have a fully hands on DH.

I also made him do the injections. Not sure which ones I had but it was for 10 days and not too bad. The more skin you pinch the better 😂. I know people that had to do the injections post vaginal birth too. Also my friends baby flipped back to head down at 38 weeks so there’s still a chance. How they have room I don’t know but got fingers crossed for you!

lucyrp · 19/07/2021 14:19

@BertieBotts someone I work with had a c section booked and before she went down to theatre they tried an ECV which was successful and she then went on to have a natural birth x

BertieBotts · 19/07/2021 15:14

I had it in my tummy before and it was honestly the worst injection ever - worse than the epidural going in! I was really skinny back then and had hardly any tummy fat so maybe it will be better now :o

But it might have been psychosomatic as I was scared and feeling quite ill at the time. I also have a needle phobia in general and tend to find injections quite painful. I've got a bit better with this. I can do blood tests without a problem now. And I didn't mind my DTAP injection I had the other week, that was fine. I'm psyching myself up to have the Covid jab once baby is here.

Daffodil21 · 19/07/2021 15:47

Well I got my C section date - 9th August so basically not going to happen!!

WolfMother326 · 19/07/2021 16:08

Hi all, hope everyone is ok. I am really struggling. Baby seems to have turned with back to mine, and is kicking outwards as hard as possible, all weekend and all day today. I am so tired and just feeling really miserable. also making me worried about the birth as posterior/back to back seems to make things more difficult....

Magik01 · 19/07/2021 16:20

@Daffodil21 how come you think it isn’t going to happen? Is that close to your due date? Sorry I can’t remember when that is!

@WolfMother326 oh no! It’s bad when the kicks are really painful and I don’t really have any tips to get them to move! This heat probably isn’t helping with how your feeling either. You have my sympathy!

@BertieBotts I hated the infections last time as well! I cried every time DH had to inject me and I’m usually okay with needles. Again it depends how much you want a natural birth as to what you choose. I’m having a section and have a child under 3 so I get what you mean about worrying about that!

Daffodil21 · 19/07/2021 16:42

@Magik01 sorry yes, due date is 12th!

@Daffodil21 I was told that if my labour starts before my section date I just need to ring the unit and they will sort me a section out ASAP and as long as I don’t rock up 10cm dilated I will still get a section. Do you know if it’s the same for you?

wimbler · 19/07/2021 17:54

@Daffodil21 yes my friend was booked for an ELCS and she went into labour 2 weeks early. She still had her section as planned. I think it’s rare for them to refuse just on the grounds you’ve gone into labour

Daffodil21 · 19/07/2021 17:57

@Magik01 yeah it is but my mum had ridiculously short labours - both under the hour so not expecting that to be an option. They've really reduced the maternity unit at my local hospital so the closest one is midwife led only and they only do around 8 births a month. But the consultant led one is over an hour away so I really don't think we'll make it. If I go into labour before I think I'm just going to head straight to midwife led unit which is 30 mins away. if something goes wrong we may be blue lighted to Aberdeen (fairly common I think) but better than being on the side of the road with no medical staff at all!

I feel a bit better about the section date being so late now I've decided to just head straight to the closest hospital rather than attempt Aberdeen, but I'm a bit annoyed it's so booked up given that they've known I wanted a section for ages. They've obviously booked others in earlier than they should have done!

Never mind I suppose...

This is the advice I’ve had too. If I’m well on my way they ‘won’t push it back’ (doctor keeps saying this’!) but as long as labour isnf too advanced they will do the section.
