I've just posted yesterday about my planned section. It definitely is nil by mouth from the night before, I was advised from midnight and given Omeprazolle to take the evening before and the morning of the section at 6am.

However, this may depend on what time your section is scheduled for. You should have a pre-op consultation arranged for 1-2 days before and advised then.

Caz1226 · 15/07/2021 13:35

Please tell me I’m not the only one that feels like they have been hit by a bus recently!
I can’t sleep at all in the night due to the muggy weather and just generally cannot get comfy, the little one has a party on a night time ( prep for no sleep when he’s here I guess) but it’s leaving me exhausted and drained in the day and I still have an extremely busy 2 weeks left at work!
I know it’s close now but the way I’m feeling it could be miles off still! Xx

Whatshouldbemyusername · 15/07/2021 13:49

@Caz1226 I'm with you. So drained my legs ache now! Can't sleep at night and have 2 weeks of work left too and I can't wait to finish!!!x

Caz1226 · 15/07/2021 13:52

We all deserve medals having summer babies lol!

wimbler · 15/07/2021 13:56

I was nil by mouth from 6am the morning of my section. I was given antacids to take - 1 the night before and 1 the morning of. The nil by mouth schedule depends on what time you are scheduled for. I was last on the list so had the latest cut off time but I got all the info at my pre op assessment a couple of days before. Annoyingly nil by mouth also included no fluid at all after 11am. I didn’t have my op until 4 so was dying of thirst. I don’t think I ended up eating anything at all until about 6pm when all I had was a bit of toast. I was raiding the snack stash all night!

I’ve been getting lots of braxton hicks now. I feel a bit like I’m about to come on my period with mild cramping and (sorry, tmi) needing to go to the loo a lot more often. Think this is normal though?!

I’ve just bought supplies to make up my own pillow sprays to take to hospital with me and will take a Muslin and pillow to spray them on.

Ava50x · 15/07/2021 14:51

@Aaaaa1519 I've had 3 water births (1st one got out to deliver at the last minute as heartbeat went, other 2 were born in the water) and I highly recommend it if you're the type to go for hot baths. I find it hugely relaxing and soothing, hoping it'll work out again this time round!

Had a bit of a scare on the bus this morning, I was standing- holding on and the bus did a sharp swerve and short stop. I went flying- didn't actually fall but ended up with sore ankles and wrists. Anyway I started panicking because I am rhesus negative and really can't be bothered going in for an anti-D.

Spoke to OAU who said I can come in to get checked out but as I didn't actually fall and no bleeding or anything I don't need the Anti-D. Phew!!!!

Aaaaa1519 · 15/07/2021 14:56

To all those asking about braxton hicks they’re completely normal and usually go away if you change positions, didn’t get any with my first but have had them from 32 weeks this time around

Also tend to get a shooting pain down there if I’m on my feet not sure what that is maybe baby putting pressure on

I’ve been eating a lot of carom seeds lately, it’s the strangest craving lol but for some reason the braxton hicks always get stronger after I’ve had some

Aaaaa1519 · 15/07/2021 15:03

@Ava50x glad to hear you’re ok any falls in pregnancy are scary definitely try and get a seat on the bus it’s hard enough keeping balance on a normal day lol

that sounds reassuring have a growth scan tomorrow hoping the consultant will discharge me as I’m not sure if they’ll let me have water birth if it’s a consultant led birth

Whatshouldbemyusername · 15/07/2021 16:03

@Caz1226 lol I know!! 😃

@Ava50x so glad you don't have to get the anti D. Still scary though and glad you and baby are ok. Thank you for sharing about water birth. Like @Aaaaa1519 that's something I'd like too if all goes well x

@wimbler is this lavender spray? X

RandomCatGenerator · 15/07/2021 17:46

@Caz1226 yes! Exhausted! Yet can’t sleep at night! Another four weeks of work too…

wimbler · 15/07/2021 19:10

@Whatshouldbemyusername I made one that’s a mix of Lavender, bergamot and frankincense and another with clary sage. I just mixed witch hazel and the oils and a bit of water. Not sure if I got the ratios right but I figured it would be ok!

Does it get you to sleep?

PurplePansy05 · 15/07/2021 20:12

Too hot for me today 😩 My feet are swollen. My laptop stopped working and had to get it sorted in the office. All drivers were utter pricks, I forgot what it's like to drive in rush hours. Cane back home to find out our primadonna plasterers did barely anything today. There's no way things will be ready before my section and I'm livid. Not even speaking to DH who was supposed to make sure it all gets done. I've approached my HR about taking maternity early, they're ok with it. I'll be speaking to my boss tomorrow, it's all got too much now.

Also had my strep B swabs this eve and I have to confess, I don't think I'd have done them properly myself, was glad I went in to a private clinic and the nurse did them for me.

Pretty sure I'm having Braxton Hicks too, feel like light period type pain. xx

HopefulB · 15/07/2021 20:45

@RandomCatGenerator, I wouldn’t generally say I have a problem sleeping (other than now just uncomfortable with bump/turning).

I would say it’s calming - and as I have a real aversion to certain smells in pregnancy it has been great to mask what I think is a stale/sweaty smell that I never noticed Pre-pregnancy and that would have me washing our bedsheets daily otherwise!

As I’ve got used to it I plan to get a new bottle to take to hospital to help keep me calm/create nice environment.

Whatshouldbemyusername · 15/07/2021 21:04

@HopefulB that looks amazing am gonna get that one thanks x

@lucyrp my feet are too hot and swollen today too. It's this heat and our body weight!

@PurplePansy05 am sorry my love things are not working out at home with renovation but atleast you can take early Mat leave.

Is baby kicking anyone in the ribs too much? 😫

Also ladies, got the good news today - my husbands blood is negative for the thalassemia so once my results are fully checked again in 3 weeks, even if I have it - worst case baby will be a carrier and atleast will not have the condition! This has put my mind to ease so much!!!

Also stepped out today and got granny panties from m&s for post partum 😃. Kind of getting sick of people asking either "are those twins?" Or "you must be due any moment now?" 🤦🏽‍♀️

lucyrp · 15/07/2021 21:04

I definitely had Braxton hicks yesterday after walking lots when Shopping to get my last hospital bag bits, felt like the baby was going to fall out of my vagina and had pains going up my tummy and it was all hard. Had to stop to let it pass 😩 not having a good day either as my last minute hair appointment if managed to get in at 38+4 has been cancelled so pretty upset about that 🤣😩 now they can come whenever I reallt don't care 😩🤣

lucyrp · 15/07/2021 21:05

@Whatshouldbemyusername I got some lovely black briefs from marks and Spencer yesterday too 🤣🤣

Aaaaa1519 · 15/07/2021 21:07

oh all those with swollen feet this one is personally tried and tested
grate some fresh ginger into hot water and mix in some salt, table salt is fine and then soak your feet until the water cools down the swelling disappears and it’s so soothing.
The water should be hot enough that it takes your feet a second to get used to it

Whatshouldbemyusername · 15/07/2021 21:08

@lucyrp I wore them on my leggings just to show my DH how high they went. He was mortified. Couldn’t even look at them for like 2 secs and he’s like “please don’t show me” 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I came back in the beige colour ones saying look these are different and he looked so unimpressed. That was the little highlight of my day 🤣x

Aaaaa1519 · 15/07/2021 21:09

@Whatshouldbemyusername great news about the thalassemia

Daffodil21 · 15/07/2021 21:11

@Whatshouldbemyusername this is brilliant news!!!! So pleased for you x

Whatshouldbemyusername · 15/07/2021 21:16

Thank you @Aaaaa1519 and @Daffodil21♥️ I almost cried with happiness when the MW called me this evening. I felt so much lighter too! X

Smurf123 · 15/07/2021 21:19

@Whatshouldbemyusername so please for you that must be such a relief!

I'm sat waiting to get check out for reduced movements.. Baby had been quieter than normal. Ofc though they have started to move a bit while I sit here waiting 🙈

@PurplePansy05 it's far too hot for me today too. I've been wearing a pair of my dh shorts at home (he's 6ft 4 and normally an xl to my normal 5ft size 10 🙈) they are loose and comfy and at least slightly cooler. I obviously couldn't come to hospital in them so I'm in the lightest trousers I own, tshirt and a face mask and think I might actually melt!
