Not very original, but the thread WAS becoming ridiculously big.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi ladies:
Just wanted to introduce myself as I popped myself on the due date list last night. I'm due 6th March with my first.
Sounds like you're getting together tonight; would have been fun to meet you, but alas, husband is out tonight and I must go straight home to tend to the dogs.
See you around the boards!
Jenny

imjin100 · 06/12/2007 15:09

welcome JFly, lovely to have new person to join us!

I shall be thinking of you all tonight and hope you all have a lovely time. Sorry to those who can't make it due to work or illness...that's no good at all.

it's nearly the weekend, the weeks are just flying by right now aren't they...I guess at week 38 they drag somewhat but we're still at a good stage...I speak for myself right now - week 27+5 is lovely!

imjin100 · 06/12/2007 15:10

just re-read that and though I can't actually believe I am saying week 27+ it seems like just the other day it was week 12 and just so new and tentative....now I'm properly pregnant!

JFly · 06/12/2007 15:36

Gah, I know. I'm 27 weeks today and I'm thinking, "um, what? That's too scary." I'm in total denial. La, la, la....

timmyinatizzy · 06/12/2007 19:38

I'm having a few blue moments too. One minute fine then the next minute in tears. Last nights was caused by dp and my stubborness to do any food for ourselves. He wouldn't say what he wanted and I wasn't prepared to second guess! I ended up with a bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes at 930 in the end

I also need to rant about dsd's childminder, but then realised that most of you are at the meet up tonight, but here goes anyway. Sorry but it will probably be a long one....

I had an midwife/doctors appointment on Tuesday at 2.15. Plenty of time I thought to do it and then pick the kids up from school, so we didn't need to arrange the childminder. Unfortunetly I didn't actually get seen until 3.15. Not enough time to get to the school from the hospital. So I rang our childminder and asked her to do us a favour and pick them up, which she agreed. I knew that I would only be 20 to 30 minutes late getting there. Me and dp had agreed between ourselves that we would pay her for the extra time without discussing it with her. Absolutely no problems there. Until tonight when I picked them up from the childminder (prearranged this time!). Her child and my dsd's are in the same class at school and this afternoon was one of the days that their Year was doing their christmas play for parents. Normally the school say that you can take your child home afterwards if you have no other siblings to collect. So when I picked them up she said that she had picked them up early as she had seen the play and wanted to pick her dd up as she was there and didn't want to have to go back to the school. Fine, except now she is charging us for the extra time that she had them today? Am I right to be ? She never asked to do it and as I see it was a favour to her? Any thoughts on how I now tackle the situation, as my pregnancy brain only allowed my normal brain to kick in when we got home and I'm fuming?

MarchMum · 06/12/2007 22:18

purly, prisci, e14mum and glammama, thanks for meeting up! we had a small but merry group.

timmy, not sure what to say as i don't have much experience with childminders. sorry but hope it gets resolved.

i had a great mw appt today thanks for those who inquired. dp came, we went for lunch and cakes afterwards and we had a really good midwife who the booking person said i could see again (not holding my breath but we'll see). there was a trace of protein in the wee so that sounded all the pre-eclampsia bells. not that bothered about it (as i don't believe it really have it - no evidence of course, just think they were being careful as i don't have any other symptoms) I did not have a glucose test, i was orginally thinking it was next time but maybe it was supposed to be this one? when are other people having theirs? the mw did say my sugar count was low (to which dp laughed out loud given all the candy i have inhaled lately!)

told myself i could have a tv watch tonight but there's nothing good on! hope everyone is dry and out of this rain...

merryberry · 07/12/2007 10:26

WHINGE ALERT.

I had 3 whole hours sleep (sitting up )last night, between the insane coughing episodes. Not good. That's the worst of the what, 11 days now. Am quite tearful every other hour to be honest, not sure how much is

  1. hormones
  2. illness and tiredness
  3. missing out on all my december meetings and parties
  4. general self-pity

Glad I have a midwife's mobile number to call now if I get worried about the baby. ALso have childcare so am resting properly this morning at last.

WHINGE OVER

e14mum · 07/12/2007 10:31

Hi girls,

Timmy, no experience with childminders either, but hope you're able to sort it out. It may not be worth risking a good childminding arrangement over ££- but I might be tempted to mention that you didn't ask her to have them for the extra time yesterday at the same time as you pay her the extra for Tuesday's cm.

I had a great time last night too. Thanks to all who made it. Marchmum, that book is hilarious! I was giggling the whole way home on the tube.

Glammama, hope your noodles were delicious. I was v. jealous- anyone else LOVE chinese food these days?

I'm really pleased that I now have a physio appointment next week to talk about achey hips! I'd just like some exercises and recommended sleeping positions from them- and I'll share what find out.

Happy friday all.

merryberry · 07/12/2007 10:32

I don't think GTT is standard in NHS pregnancy care. (Goes and looks) No, it's not.

Check here, NICE guidelines the last appendix is the easiest reference.

It's routinely foisted, with no good reason/symptomolgy, on fatties like me, but that's another story.

surprisedandexcitedmum · 07/12/2007 10:41

MM, I think I'm having a glucose test because I've just turned 35. I'm glad you've met a good midwife, i hope I am as lucky when I meet one for the first time next week.

MB I too have had the blues, and put it down to real issues being exagerated by hormones and Tiredness.

Could it be LO waking me up at 4am for a 2 hour gallumphing session or do I just notice her because I'm awake? Whichever the lack of sleep isn't helping; I suppose it's preperation for what's yet to come!

gingercat12 · 07/12/2007 10:56

Welcome JFly. It is good that you join us

How did the meet-up go last night? I was thinking of you.

e14mum · 07/12/2007 13:24

Do I want to take my antenatal classes in December? Or is that too early? I've just been offered another place on a course next week, and the organiser says she can't guarantee there will be dates offered in Jan/Feb, although she hopes to.
Hold out? Or sign up now (with all the other babies due in Jan/Feb)?

e14mum · 07/12/2007 13:25

It's NCT btw. Do they usually pull through for this sort of thing?

imjin100 · 07/12/2007 13:54

Timmy, hope you've got childminder situation sorted.
MB - sorry to hear you're feeling blue as well as feeling ill...hormones and bugs are not a good combination but hope you're soon on the mend.
Marchmum glad midwife went well and that all looks positive. nice to be reassured that's for sure.
E14 - not sure what to advise, but is there another NCT group nearby, if not in exactly your area...might be nicer to have it with others of the same dates even if they aren't on your doorstep - that said Im' afraid i can't remmeber where you live so that may be out of the question...just a thought. Also are there other groups? Perhaps it's worth posting on the general pregnancy group to ask advice as others might have a look there and be able to make suggestions.

hope everyone else is ok today. i'm very excited it's friday and only 3 1/2 hours till the weekend...bring it on!

HolidaysQueen · 07/12/2007 17:16

Hello all - I'm sat at work still filling in bloody HR forms. Aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh!

One thing I wanted to ask - does anybody else feel like their tummy is about to pop? For the last 10 days, I think the baby has been on a growth spurt because my tummy hurts so much and constantly feels as if it is stretched beyond limit. I feel like I'm a balloon that is about to burst... It's really really uncomfortable. Not helped by having a really bad case of wind today (sorry, TMI I'm sure...) Any tips on anything I can do to ease the aches, or get my muscles stretching so that the baby can grow?

Good news - I've just heard that I've got a place at the local Active Birth Centre antenatal class starting next Tuesday. Hurray!

MumOfBillyTheKid · 07/12/2007 17:46

Afternoon - boy am I glad it's Friday!

HQ I'm soooo glad I'm not the only one with a tight tummy - the muscle ?! in the middle just under my ribs feels like it's being ripped apart! I'm sure i can see a bruise there. MW told me when i asked her the other week it's nothing to worry about and just normal pregnancy aches/pains and making room for LO.

Sorry i can't offer any suggestions for it (or for wind) - would be happy to hear too if anyone else can!

Excellent news onthe Active Birth course

E14 - based on the fact everything is full in my area - my advice would be to take the place!

Have a great weekend all.

timmyinatizzy · 07/12/2007 20:19

Wey hey its Friday. I am looking forward to the weekend!! Had a good chat with the childminder when I dropped off the dsd's to school this morning. She has admitted that she was wrong to take them out of school early, and without mentioning it, it sounded like she is now not going to charge us for it.

It was the dsd's school play today. They are studying the Tudor times and had a tudor themed play. Dsd1 was a muscian and practiced her recorder for ages and was really good. Dsd2 had a small speaking part that was really clear. I also had to make costumes for both of them. Is there an emoticon for proud step mummy? I'll see if I can get dp to help me upload photos onto my profile at some point over the weekend.

Well only 2 weeks to the wedding and we still don't know if the reception will be at our current house or our new house? Everyone thinks we are ! I am trying not to think about it too much, but it did get to me earlier in the week and I had a few tearful moments. Dsd's are in bed watching Little Mermaid so I'm going to go and snuggle up with dp on the sofa. Have fun!

PurlyQueen · 07/12/2007 20:44

It was great to meet you all at John Lewis on Thursday night - and I even managed to squeeze in some research on prams.

Sadly the night took a turn for the worse later on. I woke up at around 6am with stomach pains which I thought were trapped wind. They got so bad that I could not stand up straight with the pain. I chose my GP as I didn't fancy hanging around A&E and catching anything worse.
GP diagnosed a stomach bug and prescribed me some anti diorrhea pills with strict instructions that if I developed a fever or was sick, then I should either call him again or get straight to casualty.
Thankfully the pills seem to have worked - I spent all day today writing around on the sofa with stomach pains, but nothing worse.

DontlookatmynoseImRudolph · 07/12/2007 21:00

I have those stretching pains too. Glad to hear it seems to be normal (although not glad to hear people are in pain though iyswim) as I don't remember having them with ds.

I'm getting fed up with the constant feeling of needing the loo, especially when I've just been! Argh

Hope all those with feeling ill and with tummy bugs feel better soon.

merryberry · 07/12/2007 21:53

Oh PQ, hope you feel better soon.
SmileSam, are you lurking? Come say hello!

merryberry · 07/12/2007 21:54

timmy have you decided what you're wearing? we need to think about giving you a virtual hen night somehow ...

e14mum · 07/12/2007 22:10

giggling at virtual hen night- drink all we want, eat all we want and not have to leave the comfort of our sofas!

Paranoid1stTimer · 07/12/2007 22:51

Hi

3 new questions this time....

  1. I have just been told I have Group B Strep and will have to be put on an antibiotic drip as soon as I go into labour so I will have to head straight to the hospital as soon as I go into labour and before my waters break (eewwwww). Anyone had this before? It was a bit of a shock to find out cos I was just going for a routine antenatal appt.

  2. When is everyone starting maternity leave? I'm aiming for last week in January.... However, have also just found out I am not elligible for maternity pay so will have to go for the maternity allowance from jobcentreplus... Any experience of this anyone?

And finally 3) Why oh WHY are medical receptionists SOOOOOO RUDE!!!! I had a message on my home phone at around midday - even though they have my mobile no - asking me to phone the receptionist back about "my appointment"?!?! Helpful - not. I bet they have overbooked the scan clinic and consultant appt I have been waiting for since it was booked weeks ago. Now I have to wait until MOnday to find out what the heck she was talking about in her abrupt 3 second message. I have had to chase everything since I found out I was pregnant - I only got my matb1 form today as well and I am 27 weeks pregnant now.

Sorry for the rant but I am just so fed up just now - think I have a bit of the blues too. I feel like I am annoying everyone all the time just now for no apparent reason and then I get really over emotional if anything remotely confrontational/kind/nasty/lovely happens!!! Phew.....

SmileSam · 08/12/2007 00:04

Thanks for inviting me over here merryberry!

Hi everyone, I am due on March 6th too!

Not sure about the group b strep thing.

I'm not starting maternity leave until Feb. half term, but I only work two days a week, so hope I can last.

Yes, doctor's receptionists are generally awful - power crazy!

And I just cried my eyes out reading a depressing article in Closer!

Also does anyone else feel like they could kill their husband partner when they keep putting their feet on them on the sofa? God, how much room does he need?

I feel incredibly fat and uncomfortable (apparently I'm 'all bump' but fairly 'massive' in the bump department), irritable, have awful indigestion, pelvis pain and don't know how I'll last until March. Am finding it hard to be patient with my grumpy/over-excited/sensitive 3 1/2 year old girl too.

Have finished my Christmas shopping tho'.

monthlymayhem · 08/12/2007 00:05

Hello

I'm glad to hear others are feeling as though they have a very tight/stretched tummy! It's fine when I'm sitting down, but I find when I'm standing up or walking around sometimes it feels like my tummy could burst and that there's a big heavy weight twisting inside out. And I'm only 25 weeks so god knows what I'll be like in a couple of months time

Have managed to get a bit of Xmas shopping done over the last couple of nights so feeling a bit more organised..

Hope everyone has a good weekend!
