That would be great fleurie - look forward to an update! What a small world.

pregnabrain - I would just go antibiotics in labour but again it is a purely personal choice. The risk of doing nothing isn't even worth considering. Luckily you have been checked for it - lots of people aren't. There is a support website all about streb b but I can't remember what it is they have heaps and heaps of info. Good luck with your decision.

Wolverina · 12/01/2008 07:14

Hi everyone, well we're back in Singapore after a lovely Christmas break. It was so nice to be home with all our family, and DS had a brilliant time with his cousins.

I did have a health scare when we were staying in Essex (where we used to live) with my ILs for a few days, and it was really horrible and surreal. 6 years ago I miscarried my first baby on the day after Boxing Day. Well, amazingly, this Boxing Day I started having cramps and they got much worse overnight, so on the 27th we went to the hospital..I ended up in the same ward, on exactly the same day, that I lost my baby 6 years ago. It was so scary I couldn't believe it was happening.

I didn't have any bleeding and the urine and vag swab came back negative, and the midwives didn't seem to have any answers about what was causing it. It was only after we'd been sent home and I was still in pain a day later that DH called the hospital and spoke to a really helpful midwife who told him that it can happen when the uterus and ligaments stretch, so we decided it must be that.

My bump does seem to have expanded rapidly, and weirdly has shifted upwards so it's quite high now, and the pain has gone now, so I hope this was a one-off growth spurt. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Apart from this all is well, and I even think I may have started to bloom a bit frantically touches every bit of wood in sight Wonder how long it will last for

Hope you're all well x

beccablum · 12/01/2008 09:34

had 20 week scan yday - its a girl! All totally healthy - both thrilled!

Mumblesmummy · 12/01/2008 10:28

Becca- Aw lovely, glad it went well for you. You get to look forward to plaiting hair and buying barbies now. DP won't let me buy our baby barbies when he's old enough if I had my way he'd have every barbie going!!

Wolverina- I had bad pains at 7, 14 and 18 weeks, and got referred up to hospital by my GP every time. They told me it was things growing and stretching and that seems to have been the case because at my 21 week scan the baby was perfect. I have tummy pains all day long to be honest with you, but my mum had exactly the same when she was pregnant with me. She said it's like an identical pregnancy as we've had all the same things wrong (except I've had a tiny bit of blood which she never and I've had to have anti Ds). It's an awful thing to have happened to you and it's so hard to accept when they say it's just strecthing and ligament pain isn't it? But I'm sure everything will be fine. I find mine gets soooooooooo much worse if i stress out about it, and the fact that it was exacvtly the same situation as 6 years before would make you very anxious- so it might have tensed you up and made the pain even worse? Hope you feel better soon and the pains calm down. xx

Wolverina · 12/01/2008 10:57

Thanks for the kind words, yes all the pain has gone now and forgot to mention I had my 21 week scan a few days after this happened and everything is fine. (Didn't find out the sex though - I prefer the surprise!) Mumblesmummy, I think you're right that tensing up makes it worse, so trying my best to be very chilled all the time!

magicfairy · 12/01/2008 11:20

Hi all, again not been on for ages and ages, christmas was lovely and now we back to normal, whatever that is!!
Had 21 week scan last week and all was fine, although bump was hiding an important tube from the scanner lady and i had to do star jumps in the corridor and all sorts, in there for 45 mins all up until it turned enough for her to see all was where it should be!! So i think its gonna be a little tinker, just like its brother!!
Anyway yesterday i phoned the midwife as my belly button was really hurting, feeling like it was going to ping off! After a trip to her, then the GP, then the hopsital, it turns out i have a umbillical hernia! Was sent home to see how it goes over the weekend, its only very small, but very painful. I have to go back on mondya morning to see wether it needs surgery! The words general anestetic and risk of losing baby have made me panic big time, cant find much info on net, does anyone know of this and will it be ok to carry on through preg with it left alone and can i still push baby out ok with it there?
Sorry to hear of others not feeling great at the mo, but i hope most of you doing ok

pregnabrain · 12/01/2008 14:52

Wolverina - sorry to hear about your scare. It's hard not to worry when you've lost a pregnancy before. Glad everything is OK.

beccablum - congrats on your girl news. Girls are ace! (although i'd secretly like a boy this time to even things out in our house)

magicfairy - not sure if all hernias are the same but i know two mums who got them in pregnancy. Neither had an op during pregnancy and both had natural labours without any probs (one even had her hernia really low down and pushed without any probs). One of them is going to have an op now that she's no longer preg, though. Hope this helps!

Mrsstresshead - i think they test routinely in my area, or it might have been coz i ran a high fever during last labour and needed iv antibiotics that time. dd also on antibiotics for her first four days . Of course, it's better than running any risk and I'm very lucky that it's been discovered now.

Now time for a TMI question - I didn't have constipation with my last preg, but this time it's AWFUL. I feel constantly uncomfortable. Am downing dried apricots and prunes but it's not working. What can I do???

sweetbean · 12/01/2008 15:04

Hi all
Wolverina
Just to start i was going to come on and tell you that i was having bad pains yesterday and that midwife had put it down to stretching but that i REALLY scared me and then go on to ask if this had happen to anyone else only to read that most of us have had it so let me just say (scary though it is) Thank god its not just me !!! there horrible and make you go in to blind panic that somethings wrong !!

Pregnabrain
i know what you mean about your intrusive thoughts i used to have them a lot in the pasted and i would wake up in the night with them had in this pregnancy as well they are horrible, but at least you are getting help to master them! and i wish you lots of love. xx

Beccablum

Hi all,
Wanted to add that I also had pains at around 16 weeks that were quite painful and they were also put down to stretching ligaments so hope you feel better Wolverina, sounds like you had horrible experience going back to the same place again.

Pegnabrain - sympathise with constipation - the following works for me and I haven't suffered too much so far... Buy yourself a big bag of wheatbran from a health food shop (you can get a big bag for pennies) and have two tablespoons of this a day. My doctor recommended having it mixed into cereal for breakfast which frankly I think ruins a perfectly nice breakfast! So my alternative is to mix two tablespoons with a pint of water, stir as you drink it (as it will sink to the bottom) and just down it. It doesn't taste of anything but is a bit like drinking dust - however it does the trick and you should see results in a few days.

Beccablum - congrats on having a girl!

podglet · 12/01/2008 19:43

Hey all,

Hope everyone ok, think I must be the worst poster on here! Wolverina, hope the pains stay away, muct have been very scary for you.

I have promised myself a catch up tomorrow with you all so will reply properly then but just wanted to post that we had our 4d scan today and we're having a...

GIRL

I am amazed - I had totally convinced myself she was another boy!

macaco · 12/01/2008 19:51

Pregnabrain, as important or more so than all the fibre is DRINK LIQUID. prunes are good. But drink as much as you can.

bobsmum · 12/01/2008 20:48

Podglet- congrats on your wee girl!!

Just popped in to show you all this site. I'm looking for a couple of funky maternity tops to cheer me up in the nastiness of winter. Can't find anything that doesn't make me look middle aged, until I came across these. Not sure if I'd actually go for a slogan t shirt now I'm 31 but I had loads when I was 25 and pg with ds.

Have a laugh at some of these!!

iarel · 12/01/2008 22:23

hi everyone

wolverina - hope you feel loads better.i had the cramps as well with stretching ligaments, especially on my sides and it is really scary.

very worried about DS at the mo. we rented privately for 6 years, until our landlord gave us 1 month's notice. the council placed us in a temporary flat in another town as we couldn't find anything in time and just as DS settled into the new school, we were told this friday that we have 5 days to relocate to yet another town, as they found us a permanent place, which means another change of school. apart from schoolwork suffering i am worried about how DS will adapt as he has definitely become less confident.
we can qualify for a mortgage, but that would barely get us a 1 bedroom place, as the area is so expensive. sorry about all the ranting, but had to give up my employment as well when we first moved, due to distance. found out i was pregnant a few weeks later(after years of trying), so lost out on maternity leave. all this has happened since august!

Morning!

Iarel - don't worry about ranting, it's one of the key features of Mumsnet! Can you ask to wait until something becomes available in your current town? Moving is so stressful anyway without the extra stress of school moving and pregnancy.

MrsStressHead - it was amazing! The radiographer was really kind and spent ages pointing everything out and although quite a lot of it was in 2d (they had to keep refocusing as Madam was a bit hyper!) the 4d bits are so clear. She did have her legs over her head for a while - cue lots of jokes from DP about taking after her mother . I don't know if the place you are having yours has told you this, but I was told to have a hot, sweet caffeine drink about an hour beforehand to help LO move about a bit - bribery before they are even born! I had a huge sweet milky coffee (disgusting, I usually take it black without sugar) but it worked! We are going to try and scan the pics in today so they will be on my profile.

BM - love those t's, just not quite brave enough to wear them!

IndigoBlue · 13/01/2008 12:16

Will post properly when I have more time, had to update my due date so thought might as well add whether people are having a boy or girl to original list to save having 2 lists going round if no one minds. Hope I've done it all right, apologies if not!

Hi all - can't believe how the days and weeks are flying by at the moment! - bump is getting bigger and now am convinced it is another boy as I am carrying exactly the same as last time
The only blot on the horizon is this enlarged bilateral pelvis thing which is still worrying . I saw my consultant last week and he explained that there is nothing to do but wait until the next scan which has been brought forward to 28 weeks - once that one is done, then we can talk about post-birth options. The problem is that I have to go to the scan on my own as DH will be in New Zealand and am just not looking forward to it. I am so scared that this is a soft marker for DS or something else and now wish I had done the CVS at 11 weeks.
In the mean time - am cheering myself up with the thought of our trip to Singapore and Thailand next weekend - have a feeling that some sunshine and a little chilli crab will make a nice change - can't wait.
Have managed to find some maternity stuff for the summer, but it's been tricky trying to find shorts and a decent swimsuit! They are all so ugly and unflattering!!!!
pregnabrain the other thing that worked for me with constipation was a handful of linseed on cereal - drink lots of water and that should ease everything within a day or two.
Can't believe how many girls are due on this thread! - I guess those of us with boys (?) will definitely be in the minority - I wonder if the other ante-natal threads also have such a swing as us!
Anyway - long, rambling post at an end - will try to come back on before we go!

JackBlackRoady · 13/01/2008 16:27

hi all, just a quick question - any of you had pain/discomfort in your coccyx? it means i can't sit, i have to lie! and it makes the back of my thigh and bum hurt when walking, rubbish! maybe its just one of those things ppl get in pregnancy
