Hello everyone. Will you come and join me?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mixedmama · 20/11/2007 13:47

That is shocking that she was happy to leave her baby with a stranger in a strange place just to have a fag. Addiction is a funny thing.

claireybraxtonhicks · 20/11/2007 13:48

Beckle am jealous of your pregnancy boob growage! Am STILL smaller than my sister even when bf

skidaddle · 20/11/2007 13:48

cazzy - think we are both sort of right (see below)?

To find out if your baby's head is engaging into the pelvis, the midwife feels how much of your baby's head is lying above your pubic bone. The way in which a midwife records engagement can be a bit confusing if you're not a midwife. If she can feel four fifths of the baby's head, she writes down 'four fifths', but this actually means that your baby is only one fifth engaged.

If she can feel two fifths of the head above the pubic bone, the baby is three fifths engaged. If she can feel one fifth of the baby's head, she writes down 'one fifth' and the baby is four fifths engaged. If she can't feel the baby's head at all, the baby would be fully engaged.

Amani · 20/11/2007 13:56

MM - did u not consider Daniyal for your little boy?

skidaddle · 20/11/2007 13:56

clairey - me too, still tiny compared to everyone else although briefly looked like a pornstar on the day my milk came in - probably long enough for me!

amani - yes 3/5 engaged is really good for 34 weeks - mind you dd's was the same and the mw said she'd be early and she was 2 weeks overdue so probably safest to bank on her being late to avoid disappointment...
I love Daniyal too - have you got a girl's name too?

We think we might have come up with a possible name - Ruari - which is the irish equivalent of Rory. The only problem is my brother's name is Rory so that might be a bit wierd but am so pleased that there is at least a name that one of us doesn't hate

DD has been prescribed antibiotics and anti-histamines and is sleeping - doc says it's hard to say what it's due to but to go back if it doesn't go away. DH thinks it's down to spending the w/e in my mum's house which is a bit dirty to put it politely

mixedmama · 20/11/2007 14:00

Amani - I considered it and really liked it DH on the other hand totally dismissed it straight away as "too english sounding" - personally i thought that was one of the advantages.

loucee · 20/11/2007 14:03

Hi

Skidaddle, hope you DD makes a speedy recovery. I feel the same about leaving my DD with people she's isn't really familiar with - I just know it would be on my mind when I go to hospital so I'd rather DH stay with her if it came to it.

This freezing weather is making me wonder if I have enough blankets for baby.

Those with children already - are you going to get a gift from the baby to your other siblings? I was going to do this but am now thinking DD is too young to understand?

Amani · 20/11/2007 14:05

Skid - Ruari sounds lovely. mum's house being dirty? My mum can't wait to get the vacuum cleaner out after we leave. If we have a girl we've settled on Hannah.

Amani · 20/11/2007 14:08

MM - depends on how u pronounce it.
Loucee - even though DD will be 2 at the time LO is born, I've decided to buy her doll so she can feel like she has a baby the same time as mummy!

skidaddle · 20/11/2007 14:15

amani - I LOVE the name Hannah - have always loved it. Usually I wouldn't go for more traditional names but hannah is one of my exceptions - lovely

My mum's house is a bit dirty if I'm honest and always stinks of fags which is not nice. DH is convinced that the bed DD slept in had not had its sheets changed in ages and that what gave DD her rash - sounds terrible I know but my mum is certainly not a whip round with a hoover type of lady!!

Loucee - I had been agonising over whether to get dd a present from the baby as I found the idea of it slightly wierd. In the end we have got her a little doll and then if I ever get round to it I am going to get her some fabric paints so she can 'design' scribble on a plain white babygro and then that will be her present to the baby and I will make sure he wears it as often as possible and it will of course be his favourite outfit! (both ideas nicked off mn, won't try and take credit for them)

loucee · 20/11/2007 14:17

These names you have in mind are all lovely. Like the unusual spellings as well. We are so far from choosing a name it's laughable! Think we're just going to wait and see how we feel once we're holding little on in our arms

Amani - similar line of thinking, DD is getting a Baby Annabell for CHristmas from us but was in two minds whether to give it to her when little one arrives.

claireybraxtonhicks · 20/11/2007 14:18

Bump pics now up

Loucee, I'm not going to bother getting dd something from baby-she will only be 18 months. Also dd gets presents all the time from grandparents etc so don't think she will understand the significance of it being from baby-she just takes getting presents as a given!

Amani · 20/11/2007 14:19

Gin thanks skid!!

skidaddle · 20/11/2007 14:20

clairey - that is a very respectable bump! Looks quite like mine and people keeps telling me I'm huge

cazzybabs · 20/11/2007 14:22

OHH I am so tired...my brain is not working..I want/need to go to bed! And it is rainning lots and I have to go and cycle to my midwife - YUCK!

claireybraxtonhicks · 20/11/2007 14:25

LOL Skid! Think people just comment on the size cos they don't have anything else to say half the time! Am pleased that I've finally made it into "You've grown" comments rather than "When are you due? Are you sure?? Is everything ok with the baby?" etc though.
Now, where did I put that doughnut...?

insywinsyspider · 20/11/2007 14:28

clairey - thanks for nappy sizes - ds is very slim so will try a 4 or 4+ (not sure what that means or what brand to get but sure they are all the same really??)

we're not getting ds a present from baby, its christmas anyway, there will be loads to entertain him soon enough (he's only 18 mo too)

names all sound great, as loucee says v unusal spellings - we're in the firmly tradional camp - boring but true, dh likes all names english and bibical am supprised that Mathilda is his favourite (to be honest I think its because he loved Roald Dahl books as a kid)

Amani - I was 'somewhere around' 2/5 and 3/5 at 34 wks, its a good sign but mw said it might just be because baby knows where its going and has settled in - got app on monday so will find out if its still there - feels very low tho - everyone no convinced I'll be early but like skid says am trying not to bank on it and be disapointed

bambino1andbump · 20/11/2007 14:29

On my notes yest the midwife wrote 0/5ths in regards to head being in pelvis and i'm fully engaged! I've just finished all the paperwork for my job so I can now officially rest! Done all the christmas shopping so i'm going to spend thurs wrapping it! Ever so excited!! I love christmas and this year it will be so special!

Housemum · 20/11/2007 14:30

Had thought about present from baby to DDs, but to be honest the oldest would not be bothered (14) so seems unfair to just give to one. Saying that, as part of their Christmas presents, I've bought tickets for DH to take DD2 to the panto in January, and DD1 to see the Hoosiers in March (I did ask him if he'd feel like a perv taking a 15 year old out for the night!!) so they each have a bit of non-baby time on their own.

Housemum · 20/11/2007 14:33

Not engaged yet (as to be expected with no 3) but the head is low down - as the consultant said, "the head is low down but I expect your bladder has been telling you that anyway!" which amused me - he was really nice, shame you don't get more like that.

Like the bump Clairey - not much different from mine so I feel good!

skidaddle · 20/11/2007 14:33

insy - dd was in reusables too but whenever I needed to buy disposables i just used to look at the weight guide - one size seems to cater for quite a wide range in weights so should be fine whatever brand you use (nature do really good eco-disposables that you can get in Waitrose)

insywinsyspider · 20/11/2007 14:40

skid - I don't know how much he weighs thats how I've done it before - I tried nature baby ones from Boots when ds was about 5 months and we were camping but they leaked loads, are the ones in waitrose the same as those? I liked moltex before but need to get organised and order some if am going eco!

bambino - 0/5!! its on its way out and at having xmas shopping done - dh is a nightmare to buy for, might just get him a scaletrix.... boys never grow out of toys do they!

denbury · 20/11/2007 14:42

enjoy these last few days, weeks or whatever you have. your life will never be the same. mine changed for the better but god isn't hard work!!good luck. will be looking for a thread to see what you had!!

skidaddle · 20/11/2007 14:43

insy - yeah they're the same ones. I don't know what dd weighs either but I could always put her in a weight bracket e.g. 10-15kgs although not sure I could now!

bambino - think you're going to be next to pop!!

bambino1andbump · 20/11/2007 14:57

Oh I hope baby will be here soon. Finding it hard work with a 3yr old and puppy now. Just want a lie in!!

Insy - I got dh a fantastic present in boots, Its a experience day. It was £69 and they can choose from 5 different experiences at thousands of venues around the country. Also got loads of advantage points which bought someone else a present!
My SIL got her fiance one and then we went halfs and bought dh and sil Dad one so the three of them can go off for the day!
