Thought I'd start a new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
insywinsyspider · 06/11/2007 09:59

thanks loucee - i've spotted a couple of quinny spares on ebay so will keep an eye out but they look really good, I've also found they do new head huggers for the car seats from mothercare but after seeing site am tempted to get baby a custom one!

loucee · 06/11/2007 10:18

I know that site is really tempting! I really like the liners for the P&T with the padded bit for the wee one's head to rest against, I don't like DD's head leaning against the bars of the P&T when she's sleeping

Amani · 06/11/2007 10:19

OK feeling a bit sh!tty as the temp that I'm training to do my job burst in tears saying 'it's hard', because I pointed out a few mistakes that she's done. Didn't say it horribly or anything, but mentioned 'oh have you remember to do X,Y,Z on the statisitical reports' when she hadn't. Told her I didn't mind as she is training etc etc, but she seems to be taking every mistake she does so personally......

ok just needed to get that off my chest....

loucee · 06/11/2007 10:38

Don't feel bad Amani - it's not your fault. It's good you're doing a thorough handover, don't want the temp saying "X didn't tell me I had to do that". Whenever you start a new job it seems so daunting everything that needs to be done as you're getting shown everything from new. I would encourage her to keep a notebook to hand to write down key points to remember when doing each task/assignment then she can revert back to that at any time.

Really thirsty today but nothing seems to take my fancy, think I'll have to go to the shops to get something nice as I've drunk glasses of water already

Ambi · 06/11/2007 10:59

Don't feel bad, it would be worse if work is calling you at home "Why didn't you train the temp properly" - which I'm totally expecting myself...

Due at hairdressers shortly - thank god, it's a bleedin mess, birds will start nesting soon!! Nursery decorating has ground to a halt due to cannot find curtains for the stupid sized window. Off traipsing round town looking for some wide and short cheap curtains, mmm fun

Its too early for lunch isn't it, I'm not hungry yet but I've made some soup (I'm a domestic godess now) for later and it smells frickin gorgeous...

cazzybabs · 06/11/2007 11:47

Just seen my midwife - am worried about my homebirth as my blood pressure is on the high side - but hopefully it all be OK. Baby a little on the small side and is back to back - need to stop lying in bed and sit on a chair or a birthing ball! And she thinks it may come early...better bloody not!

mixedmama · 06/11/2007 11:54

Morning all,

Nothing really to report from here. My DS slept through the fireworks as he has been poorly. DH and I watched them from our balcony as we are up the road from a massive display.

Kerioke - so sorry to hear about your hospital stay... sounds awful. Looking forward to hearing some good news from you.

Hope the rest of you are well bar all the crazy aches and pains etc that we all seem to be getting now.

mixedmama · 06/11/2007 11:56

cazzy - how can they tell if it will come early or not??? My MW has probs finding the heartbeat so taking everything she says with a pinch of salt.

claireybang · 06/11/2007 12:54

Have bump depression today
Went to fireworks display last night and there was a bit at the side that they were reserving for disabled people but the guy said if we hung around they would also be letting people with buggies go through once they could see how many wheelchairs etc there were. Anyway, a pregnant lady with a buggy turned up and the bloke said "Oh you can go straight through as you are pregnant" DH looked at me and said "Excuse me but my wife is pregnant and we have been stood here waiting for 15 minutes" The bloke's response "Yeah nice try mate" DH "No, she is 8 months pregnant" Bloke "Really? Doesn't look it. Well I don't want it on my head if she is so go through"
Later on I was talking to the other pregnant lady and asked how long she had left and she said 2 weeks, I said I had 5 left and she said oh 5 months? So now I am even more paranoid about my teeny tiny bump. Might just stay in the house til I give birth and that way noone can comment...

insywinsyspider · 06/11/2007 13:01

oh clairey be proud of your teeny bump, people look at me in disbelief when I say I've got 6 wks to go and then they make stupid comments about big babies and painful births - just what I need to hear you should bask in the thought that you'll get your figure back much quicker than the rest of us!

ps same thing happened to my SIL she called emergency plumber to fit leaking radiator and when bloke arrived she explained that it needed to be fixed asap before baby arrived - he looked at her blankly and said 'arrive from where?' she was 38 wks pg! small yes but you could def see she was pg!

fifisworld · 06/11/2007 13:28

Sorry to everyone who's feeling down atm

Kerioke- I hope you are ok.

Claireybang - Dont feel bad about the size of your bump. When i was pg with ds1 a woman i worked with actually said to me i must have something wrong with either me or ds as i was so small, i felt really down about it for ages. Some people are just horrible.

becklesparkler · 06/11/2007 13:30

Clairey, I second what Insy said - lucky you to have a small bump! As long as you and baby are healthy that is all that matters, a (very tiny) friend of mine had such a tiny bump she didn't show until well after 7 months and she had a 7lb, perfectly healthy baby. My bump is so huge now that people just don't believe me when I say I still have over 7 weeks to go! Lots of very 'wise' people telling me that baby will definitely be early as I look so 'stretched' already (that and laughing at me when they see me). They did the same with DS2 and he was 9 days late!
Ambi, have you considered getting a blind for the nursery rather than curtains? The window in our nursery is so close to the wall you would not be able to open curtains properly in there so we put a blind in there instead.
Bouncing glad you are starting to feel better!
I think the cold has got to my hips, I was okay yesterday morning but by the time I had picked the kids up from school I could barely walk. I nearly didn't go into work last night as it was so sore but left it too late to phone in sick , don't like to anyway as I feel like I am skiving - not like it is hard work. Bit less stiff today but have decided to be lazy and use the car for all 3 school runs (walked 2 of them yesterday).
Starting to panic a bit now about being unprepared! Going to wash all the blankets and things this week and pack bags so they are ready. Need to speak to BIL to see if he will sit with kids when baby decides to arrive and I ordered the mattress for my carrycot yesterday! Was someone asking about that the other day? (sorry, can't remember who it was). Here is where I got it from - same ebay shop as someone else on here (was it you Loucee???), sorry again for terrible memory!

insywinsyspider · 06/11/2007 14:11

yep clairey its time to start showing off about your superior stomach muscles thats what I'd be doing if I could!
I'm still getting annoyed by the gender predictors looking at bump and telling me its def a boy - they don't know anymore than I do so I wish they'd just leave it

slow day at work today... all I can think of is babies!

mixedmama · 06/11/2007 14:24

clairey - dont let it get to you hun. People are just fools when it comes to this pregnancy malarkey. Read your AIBU thread... a sit down and chat seems to be in order.

skidaddle · 06/11/2007 15:05

Afternoon everyone

Had a bit of a scare this morning as I thought my waters had gone - woke up and my pyjamas were all wet. Phoned the antenatal ward and they said to go in straightaway and examined me etc but couldn't find any evidence of ruptured membrane (fore or hind waters). They wanted to keep me in overnight but I begged and pleaded and they reluctantly let me go hom, thank God. So I don't know what it was but I feel fine and hopefully that will be the end of it.

Kerioke - hope things are OK with you and looking forward to hearing your news

clairey - isn't it annying how people think it's OK to comment when your bump is small - it's the same if you're really thin - people think nothing of coming up to you and telling you you're too skinny or aksing if you're anorexic (happens to a friend of mine all the time) - makes me even though I am not skinny and my bump is HUGE!!

glad you're feeling better bouncing

hi everyone else

mixedmama · 06/11/2007 15:10

OMG skidaddle... what did they attribute it to then? I have had a few moments when i have dripped ever so slightly and been petrified that this was it.... altho I suspect it is actually just my pax pelvic floor....

Exercises ladies.

skidaddle · 06/11/2007 15:17

well I wondered if it was just wee MM but I smellled it and it wasn't. In fact it smelled really sweet!? I told them this and they checked for sugar levels in my urine but they were fine - very wierd...

will certainly be stepping up on the old pelvic floors though!

mixedmama · 06/11/2007 15:19

Well, glad it wasnt your waters anyway, a few more weeks of cooking for LO.

skidaddle · 06/11/2007 15:36

how's you ds btw - is he better?

mixedmama · 06/11/2007 15:40

Not really. He did sleep well last night tho, so that is hopefully a good sign. I have never really seen him poorly like this... so chesty and he was crying but it was more like whingeing cos he couldnt get it out poor thing. My dad said he isnt eating too well, refused breakfast but then had chicken at 10.30 ish plus he keeps napping but only for about 15 mins then he coughs and wakes up.

Lovely to have him clinging to me for comfort tho... I know that sounds awful, but made me so emotional yesterday that he is so reliant on me.

Sorry to waffle, thanks for asking Skid.

skidaddle · 06/11/2007 15:44

oh poor thing - I know what you mean about feeling good that he needs you though - I find it so lovely and heartwarming that my dd just needs to hug me and she feels better although the reponsibility of it is also a bit terrifying.

have you taken him to the gp or anything?

claireybraxtonhicks · 06/11/2007 16:01

Hope DS is better soon MM-I also get emotional when DD clings to me.

Thanks everyone for the support about my bump. I think the thing that really gets to me is that people keep asking me if anything is wrong with the baby or telling me I need to eat more etc.

And of course, having a tiny bump means that people don't give my advanced stage of pregnancy the respect it deserves . People do seem to assume that if you have a small bump then you don't get tired/backache etc but they don't realise that it can be just as uncomfortable when baby is all squashed inside you-I am more uncomfortable now than I was with dd simply because the baby has no room!

Here's hoping this one is a nice hefty 8lb-er just to shock the people that have made stupid comments!

claireybraxtonhicks · 06/11/2007 16:02

PS I have added a bump pic to my profile so you can all tell me how lovely it is

mixedmama · 06/11/2007 16:07

Cant see any picks Clairey or a profile for that matter.

I took him to the doctors yesterday and the doc basically said it is a virus and you dont really need to bring him in. If he gets a temp let him have the temp for 4 days (with Calpol) and then bring him back. didnt even give me any cough medicine or anything... had to go out and buy some myself and soem Vicks. Utterly useless.

claraquitebignow · 06/11/2007 16:08

Claireyb - am inspired by your name change so am trying one out myself, never done this before so let's see if it works....
