Thought I'd start a new thread

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Amani · 05/11/2007 14:54

Hi Wizzka
I've had the same sort of pain on left hand side and have put it down to stretching pains as I can still feel the baby move. How about having a warm bath? - my mw recommended this and mentioned that it can ease the pain the muscular pain little. If you are still worried contact your m/w.

Wizzska · 05/11/2007 15:00

I hope that's what it is Amani. I've not had anything quite as painful as this before, although have had stretching ligament pains before.

Have no midwife at the moment - still waiting for the homebirth team to get in touch. Cutting it a bit fine isn't it!

Amani · 05/11/2007 15:08

Do you have the number for the fetal assessment unit of your local hospital? It should be on the front of your maternity notes. Maybe they can help/advise.

Does it feel like the baby might be in awkward position?

skidaddle · 05/11/2007 15:10

Hi wizzska - don't know I'm afraid. I have had pain down the side of my bump as well but not severe. if it is really painful I would definitely contact your mw/antenatal ward - best to make sure

Wizzska · 05/11/2007 15:26

If it doesn't stop soon, I'll contact my antinatal teacher. She's a midwife too so she should be able to advise me. The boy is moving around a bit at the moment, so I don't think it's him.

Amani · 05/11/2007 15:36

let us know how you get on hun
xx

Bouncingturtle · 05/11/2007 17:58

I often get a stitch like pain in my side above my hip, is it like this? Hopefully you'll get some good advice from your AN teacher!
Feeling loads better, after lots of naps and drinking plain water (no pop in the house unfortunately!), had a little something to eat and going to have some toast in a bit.

macdoodle · 05/11/2007 18:07

Could it be Braxton Hicks?? Hope settles down soon..

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 05/11/2007 19:11

I have been having really strong braxton hicks for 24 hours and I thought I was going into labour today whilst shopping for hospital bag in Asda!

I have had backache too and felt sickly and running tummy. When I got outside Asda I felt wet on my leg and thought 'oh no!!' and it was just a bit of light rain!

Im due on 1st dec and really dont want him to arrive early as new kitchen not in yet!!

Ambi · 05/11/2007 20:10

oh choc, that was lucky, It's getting a bit close and real now. I reckon we're all feeling the strain a little now. My burst of energy is from 7-10 am (sucks that I can't even lie in now I've finished work, damn body clock) My lunchtime I dimish, cut to 2pm when I feel like someone has sucked the life out of me!! Aches and pains so far I can cope with but cannot stand/walk for too long. hugs and sympathy for you sickly poorly ladies; bouncing/skid/chocpnut. Housemum I don't blame you for being upset, i'd be the same, I've visions of you buying extra strengh poison/ and or pellet gun and lying in wait for the sneaky beggars. Buzzy, happy belated birthday, the scan sounds like it went positively, here's hoping for the best for you.

Ambi · 05/11/2007 20:12

Amani - you should be sponsored by Greggs. mmm Mince pies though, been shopping today and v. good; full of fruit and veg (hoping it will make up for poor diet so far)

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 05/11/2007 20:13

When are you due Ambi? I have not kept up with this thread.

Ambi · 05/11/2007 20:15

4th, so 4 weeks tomorrow . Still halfway through packing hosp bag - baby's is done tho.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 05/11/2007 20:42

I just started mine today

just need to get a new nightie, dressing gown and slippers tomorrow and I will finish it.

Think I might need a bigger bag! I took a suitcase and a bag in with dd1 but i knew i was in for 5 days as a cs

dont know how to pack light!!

Ambi · 05/11/2007 20:49

I know what you mean, I've taken the best of everyone's lists and think I will need a case so scared of being in for longer and asking hubby to nip home and pick me up some clothes - he'll get wellies and a bikini, or something along those lines! Want to take my pillow too, I'm gonna be a bag lady..

insywinsyspider · 05/11/2007 21:58

hello

thanks everyone for nice messages about my mice - i decided to go to extreme route and laid poision, not v popular i know but i want them gone before baby gets here. I was planning on selling buggy on ebay to fund new one but i wanted to use car seat again poor baby is prob going to have a seat with some gaffer tape on it and the cosy toes will hide damage/keep them comfy
housemum - your house sounds like ours! I can't get into spare room for the amount of stuff in there and the washing trying to dry...

wizzka - hope everythings ok, sounds like ligament pain, hope teacher was helpful

had mw app today and baby is head down 3/5 engaged - not properly there but well into my pelvis didn't really think about it at the time but now am wondering if thats because its second baby or its getting ready?!?

insywinsyspider · 05/11/2007 22:28

up far far too late searching about what 3/5 engagement could mean - just means its in right place but not that birth is immintent

Housemum · 05/11/2007 23:38

Chocpeanut & others packing bags - last time I took everything I thought I might need - embarassingly the hospital must be used to it as they have a spare supermarket trolley for you to put your bags in to move between wards!

this time I'm trying a bit of logic (not something I'm normally blessed with...) - I'm packing the bare minimum into a bag for me and a changing bag for the baby. I also have a large bag which will stay in the car boot in case I get kept in overnight or I need more breast pads/sanitary towel/nappies. I figured that if I do have to stay in, DH can go down to the car to fetch the extra stuff, as he'll have to go outside to use his mobile anyway.

Bouncingturtle · 06/11/2007 07:12

I'm sure I read somewhere that 2nd and subsequent babies engage later than first babies.
There is a winter vomiting bug going around apparently. But I can understand people's alarm especially as our due dates are getting close, as I have read comments on here from other ladies who have give birth saying they had tummy ache and sickness just before labour kicked in! That did cross my mind Sunday which was why I rang NHS direct. I also spoke to the Midwife yesterday who assured me that as long as drank plenty of fluids baby will be fine.
Oh and FIL rang yesterday - apparently about 5 other people at the party came down with food poisoning . Of course FIL refused to believe it was, insisted on it being the stomach bug. So it was just a co-incidence that those who fell sick were the only ones to eat the egg sarnies?
Anyway feeling loads better this morning - woke up ravenously hungry! But still going to take it easy food wise today.

buzzybee · 06/11/2007 07:17

I was always lead to believe that second and subsequent babies less likely to engage or not til later - does anyone have any further info on this?
Will ask the consultant when I see him tomorrow. I'm inclined to think this LO is at least partially engaged as I seem to be feeling less vigorous movements - i.e. quite a lot of hand flutter type punches but not major movements around. Plus I'm feeling a bit more comfy at night and she doesn't seem to "flop" from side to side when I turn over IYKWIM?

3bears hope you're doing OK? We should really start posting actual births at the bottom of the list if you feel like kicking it off?! I notice the November Ante-Natal thread has about 8 births already!

Great minds think alike!

insywinsyspider · 06/11/2007 08:09

buzzy, housemum - from what I read last night there is no rhyme nor reason to it, some 2nd babies don't engage until labour and others (I guess because everything has been stretched before?) engage relatively early but then just sit there for a few weeks - hoping thats my baby as I need 3 more weeks before ok for home birth and I got me some mice to kill before then!

anyone with a quinny buzz know where to get replacement harness pads from?

Amani · 06/11/2007 08:38

Morning all,

Hope you poorly ladies are feeling a little better today. Had a good night's sleep and only woke up once for a loo trip.

Ambi - I'd LOVE to be sponsored by GREGGS, although post-birth I might have to see if I can strike a deal with WEIGHT WATCHERS or someone similar.....

Has anyone heard from Kerioke? - really hope things go according to how she wants it to.

loucee · 06/11/2007 09:30

Morning

Amani - was also thinking of Kerioke, hope everything is ok.

Insy - these aren't Quinny pads but I've need to get some more pads for my car seat and here have some lovely custom made ones.

Nesting instinct is getting hard to control - well spending instinct is more precise! Got new bedding yesterday as I wont be able to get the whole house ship shape but definitely want my bedroom to be my little sanctuary - especially with the inlaws and two SILs staying for Christmas I want a lovely place I can retreat to!
