Thought I'd start a new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mixedmama · 14/11/2007 10:48

PMSL at the semen comments...will not be telling DH about that one.

Amani - let it out and then go home early.

Ambi · 14/11/2007 10:53

Wow very busy thread?

Didn?t go to the cinema in the end the showing was too late for me to get home and have dinner on the table like a good housewife, fancied Stardust, but might wait til next week and see American Gangster. Wrote my Xmas cards instead, well addressed them anyway, I figured I can sign them in a post birth zombie like state, once we know it?s definitely a girl!

Clairey ? that?s exactly what I was thinking, ?they still wake up?? (omg what have I done emoticon) My cousin has 2 under 2s and although they?re good girls, it?s still a handful, I know I couldn?t cope, I applaud you brave souls.

Thanks for the mention of the placenta eating, makes me really queasy thinking about it, just the sight of raw liver makes me want to heave, never mind scoffing your own afterbirth!

Insy ? I?ve starting painting our cot, wish I hadn?t bothered what a nightmare!! From mahogany to white takes about 3 coats and all the spindles are such a pain, I?m really hoping that LO sleeps in the moses basket for as long as poss.

Everyone is having their bump measured at their appts, I?ve not been measured once, good old NHS.

Housemum · 14/11/2007 10:54

Morning!

Meme - is he allowed a phone on at work? DH sees customers and normally has phone off in meetings but has agreed that from 36 weeks he'll keep it on silent all the time and pick up if he sees my number calling. (Of course, I will have to remember not to call him and ask him to pick up milk on the way home or something, could seriously p**s him off!) He's also said he'll try to only be an hour's drive away and do as many meetings by phone as he can. (Of course, this is the same bloke who last night agreed to help get DD ready for school so I could shower this morning rather than having a bath last night and his sole contribution was to make toast whilst I checked the school bag/cleaned her teeth/washed her face/helped her get dressed/brushed her hair - apparently he forgot...)

Mixedmama - if your hospital does regular tours I'd go along as a reminder - this is number 3 for me (though first was in a different hospital) - I still wanted a reminder though. Our hospital does a drop-in tour every Saturday/Sunday afternoon - ask the MW (if she knows!) or call the hospital maternity reception and see if you have to book a tour or just turn up.

I'm not doing any antenatal preparation this time - I did take AN classes with DD2 but only 'cos DD1 was an emergency section so I didn't even go into labour. This time, it's been 4 years but I figure I'll remember when it happens! Have just read the pregnancy magazines and my "What to Expect When Expecting" book so that's my preparation done.

Must finish packing the bag - DH very helpfully brought back some hotel freebie sizes of shower gel/shampoo/soap/deodorant so they can go in there. I could do with a new toothbrush soon so think I'll put it in my bag then I won't forget to take one! Baby bag was easy - it's my stuff that's tricky as I can't decide what to put in, and with things like clothes-to-come-home-in, I don't have enough spare to keep something aside! Hope things won't be so quick that I can't grab something out of the wardrobe on the day - perhaps I should stick my gym stuff (t-shirt/tracky bottoms) in there for now in case of emergency then I can come out of hospital looking like Waynetta Slob! (When I want to come out in my smart black pull-on trousers that still just-about fit and a nice baggy top...)

Note to self and to all - keep the camera/video/iPod charged up!

mellymooks · 14/11/2007 11:03

Ambi, how far along are you? I only starting getting measured at 34 weeks. And still haven't been told what position the baby is in, though going for my 36 week check today where birth plan will finally be discussed so I'm hoping they might tell me how LO is lying.

Housemum · 14/11/2007 11:04

Oh, and meme - shaving is not necessary, but I (with help of DH!) am trying to keep it trim - GROSSNESS ALERT - imagine having a really heavy period and being a bit "bushy" - so that's why I'm being v tidy down there!

And eyebrow shaping is not too vain - I have mine done yesterday! Have also got hair dye ready to top up if roots show soon. Have packed some all-in-one foundation/powder in labour bag & an eyeshadow pencil too (total ridiculous vanity!!) Thought we'd take the first pics which will be the usual looks-like-I-had-a-fight-with-a-wild-animal shot, then a quick tidy up for the oh-look-I'm-like-a-celeb-mum shot (without the Botox and Lipo unfortunately...)

mememummy · 14/11/2007 11:31

housemum i def agree would like to feel nice a clean dh just thinks its funny tho, and no no phones he works in a prison and i am only allowd to ring if birth is imminent

mememummy · 14/11/2007 11:34

but at least i got u lot

mememummy · 14/11/2007 11:57

also had thoughts on text buddies some of the other threads are doing it. now we've reached 'term' we can text 1 person to say were in labour/ or had lo and they can post it on here then every1 is kept upto date and we can all be excited for them/ or miserable it hasnt happened to us yet

Ambi · 14/11/2007 12:03

Beanster, 16 days crikey, how scarily close that is, just worked it out that it?s 20 days myself I suppose I?m not counting to that though, I?m still working on my induction date so I?m not disappointed if I go over my due date.

Just had the JW round, wow, not really ready for a philosophical convo this earlier in the morning.

I?ve done my hospital bag, but am gonna take it apart and do a separate labour bag ? can you tell I?m a bit bored..

Hugs chocpeanut, I have heartburn but yours sounds so awful, you haven?t long to go now though ? blimey I sound like everyone I know, that?s all they say to me, that and ?Get some rest now cos you won?t be able to in a couple of weeks? Oh what fun.

Amani, that?s what I?ve put on my birth plan too, no students and minimal internals, although cannot bear the decision of epi or tearing, they both sound vile, though I believe epi is better as it?s a straight line and easier to stitch. How long you got til ML? Hugs for you, maybe it?s just me but try to put some errors in place before you leave so they miss you and appreciate you when you?ve gone (evil plotting emoticon)

Housemum, I decided against the AN classes too ? I?m not very good at advice receiving, the MW who suggested it was horrified and offended that I didn?t want to go. Sit in a circle with flashcards and a plastic baby whilst the benefits of BF are chucked at me (I do intend to BF but don?t like being MADE to)

Melly I?m 37 weeks atm, but have a small bump, I think I look about 6 months preg.

Ambi · 14/11/2007 12:08

Really hungry now, think I might venture out to the shop, and get some health; pasties/cream cakes/ choc/ crisps and veg out on sofa for rest of the day. I want amani?s greggs discount card Gotta stay in today as waiting for cot mattress delivery from John Lewis, at a nice accurate time of 2pm-9.30pm.

skidaddle · 14/11/2007 12:18

Oh ambi you are making me v, with your plan for the day!!

I just walked out of a mind numbingly dull training course - told the instructor I had to go and see my mw and looked a bit pained! He looked quite scared and ushered me out the door - late pg does have its advantages!

ambi - I think a lot of mw's nowadays leave you to tear rather than give episiotomies because they heal better because the cut is jagged instead of straight. I know it sounds horrendous but the good thing is it happens seconds before you meet your baby for the first time and it usually heals quite quickly.

wizzska - are you onML as well now? and also to neuro

meme - poor you - hope you have a work number for him at least so you can get through and pass on a message that it is urgent if you do go into labour

amani - are you still there? What about a bit of a Greggs binge to cheer you up?!

skidaddle · 14/11/2007 12:20

speakig of binging - I read in the newspaper this moring that occasional binge drinking is now considered fine during pg!!!

MM - what happened in Eastenders?

mememummy · 14/11/2007 12:24

i had a large glass of baileys with ice yest really enjoyed it til i realised i was slightly tipsy and threw up, not a good look and dh was convinced i had had more than 1 glass feel very ashamed and kinda cheap now

claireybraxtonhicks · 14/11/2007 13:00

Just caught up on eastenders on telly addicts. OMG! Damn DH for being home early (I'm not allowed to watch it when he is home!), although actually it sounds harrowing stuff so probably a good thing I didn't see it.

Yes Ambi, just think, you may have already had the last full nights sleep you will get for ooh, 13 years or so

Also very jealous of your day, although I'm not doing too badly in the food stakes myself today!

Re shaving-last time I quickly shaved my legs in labour but hadn't done bikini area for few weeks. I'll almost certainly do my legs again this time but will see how I feel about bikini line when it comes to it. Somehow an uneven badly shaved area is more embarrassing than an entirely unshaved one to me!

insywinsyspider · 14/11/2007 13:11

i cried at eastenders - damn hormones - am convinced baby will be fine tho

half day for me today which is great - my major stress is the fact work is hanging over me, its not a particularly stressful job its just the fact I have to be here and everything feels out of control and that I have no time to do anything.... only 5 days left over the next 2 wks, am v of anyone on mat leave now!

amani - how long left at work? hope your day gets better x

very productive morning of ordering the cot bed matress for ds and going to a lovely ante natal class, am finding that very relaxing (supprisingly - I thought it might get me scared about the birth) am also starting to be convinced about labouring in water - anyone else considering water birth? and anyone considering having one at home? my AN teacher offered to lend me a pool so am getting really tempted...

claraquitebignow · 14/11/2007 13:13

Morning everyone

Mememummy have just looked on your profile and realised you are young enough to be my daughter . That means you could be about to have my grandchild I feel so old now!

I feel really rough today as dd appears to have croup - she was awake half the night coughing and I don't feel like I have had much sleep. Took her to Waitrose instead of the usual Tumbletots this morning and bought myself a huge butterscotch and pecan danish to make myself feel better.

Haven't watched 'Enders from last night yet but have it "plussed" so may go and have a look in a mo - dd is fast asleep.

thelady · 14/11/2007 13:21

Good grief you lot are chatty!

Sorry to hear that loads of us are having a rough time of it.

Yesterday was my regular "hurry up and wait" at the hospital for scans, checks, blodd tests and the rest of the nonsense.

Saw a different diabetes consultant who wasn't particularly helpful - no I don't have GD you silly man, I have slightly impaired glucose tolerance and I am NOT going on insulin just to keep your arbitrary statistics correct. . Fortunately my obs. consultant agrees with me .

However, the powers that be are still concerned that this is a biiiiiiiig baby (and won't tell me how big) and are basically saying "induction at 40 weeks" now, which I'm going to take a while to get my head around. Their (scan) dates give me 18 days to go, while mine give me another 2 over that, but it's still feeling awfully soon.

I keep hinting very unsubtly to DH that a bit of, erm, activity might be nice, but he's always too tired. I can't jump him any more - I'd squash him!!

We covered CS at the NCT class last night: I had no idea just how many people were needed for a 'normal' CS: surgeon, 2 midwives, surgical assistant, 2 nurses, anaesthetist, paediatrician, partner, and potentially medical students.

claraquitebignow · 14/11/2007 13:26

Thelady - yes, it's always good to be prepared for the amount of people in a room for a c/s. We had also covered that at our NCT class and I am glad we did because I ended up with an elective section. But as between 20 and 30% of people end up with a section one way or another (many of them emergency) it is best to be prepared.

Amani · 14/11/2007 13:29

Thank you Skid, Ambi, Insy, Mcdoodle, MM, Wizzska

Am going to have a silent protest this afternoon and surf the net.

I love your evil plotting Ambi - think I am going to do something before I leave on 7th Dec . You may borrow my Greggs card.

Lol@ skid 'skiving' off training

Off to get something mega unhealthy now...

skidaddle · 14/11/2007 13:41

Now that's more like it amani - double round of pasties and doughnuts for pudding, followed by four hours of unadulterated mumsnetting

thelady - could you tell your DH about the semen being better absorbed by the gut for inducing labour to get things going?

clara - your poor dd - mine has had croupe a few times - it's horrendous, isn't it? Have you tried putting her in a steamy room - that helped a lot for my dd

insy - I'd love to try a birthing pool but my hospital doesn;t have one and I'm not allowed a hb due to haemorraging last time so think I will just get in the bath at home before going to hospital - I would def taking your AN teacher up on her offer - you can always get out if you don;t like it!

clairey - with you on the better unkempt than badly shaved ladygarden - the last thing I can be bothered with at the moment anyway

Having serious second thoughts about not getting a double buggy after reading a thread (will see if I can link to it in a minute) - people rightly pointed out that if the weather is awful a sling just isn;t going to cut it. Thinking of forking out for A P&Ts now but they are sooo expensive, aaaggghh!!

skidaddle · 14/11/2007 13:42

this is the thread I was talking about

mellymooks · 14/11/2007 13:47

Hi everyone,
Just got back from my check up had long discussions over birth plan and all the things we need to get sorted for our home birth, feels so real suddenly!
Head is down but is lying more on right than left side so I've got to keep thinking about my positioning.
Ambi - I think you should query why they haven't measured you yet, it's amazing how differently midwifes work, some women I've met at classes were told weeks ago what position their baby was in, whereas my midwife would only tell me today always said it was too soon before now.
She did a scan so we got to see our LO for a few moments so excited about meeting this person but still can't believe it's all real at the same time!

claireybraxtonhicks · 14/11/2007 14:01

Skid I was having the same dilemma but as I walk everywhere decided that a double buggy would be useful. I was looking for second hand ones on internet/in paper etc but then remembered my cousin had two children close together so thought I'd cheekily ask them if they had a double. Was a good decision cos whereas I was looking at the mclaren/bruin end of the market I've actually ended up with a Jane Powertwin for the same money
Plan to use a combination of sling/stroller, sling/reins/pushchair and double depending on where I am going/what I am doing. It does mean that our hallway is full of pushchairs but means that I won't have to be pushing a double when dd can walk or baby can be carried etc.
Well worth looking at second hand ones-particularly if you won't be using it everyday but combining with a sling, there are some good deals out there

mememummy · 14/11/2007 14:09

clairey my mum said that when i told her i was pg, but she had me young and we hav a really close relationhip so its all good,

my mw hasnt mentioned poition, birth plan, labour or anythin like that at all, i mist out on getting tens machine, so had to tlk to some nice people in boots perhaps i should start bugging her now? (36+ weeks)

mixedmama · 14/11/2007 14:30

Oh no skid I really dodnt want a double buggy. I am goign to read that thread now.... i might be convinced to get a mclaren type one and just keep it in the cupboard for bad weather. problem is not just walking but how about getting thru doorways etc???
