Thought I'd start a new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Tesco do granny knickers packs for £2.50 too, I got some real apple catchers on Tuesday. Will throw them out as soon as possible when I don't need them.

Tesco also do those growbag thingies cheaper than any other shops I've found.

SarahPT · 08/11/2007 17:05

Thanks Skidaddle!

Sorry for the numpty questions but am actually getting bored with shopping (never thought I'd say that!)

So can have trip to m/care tomorrow and get nightdress and look at the (cellular?) blankets then that's a few more things off the to-do list!

Wizzska · 08/11/2007 17:06

I've not got an opening nightshirt, but I got a cross over style jersey wrap dressing gown for £5 in Tesco. I've got nursing nighties from Ebay, but they work by having really elasticated straps rather than unbuttoning.

SarahPT · 08/11/2007 17:10

Thanks for the tip Wizzska!

skidaddle · 08/11/2007 17:26

cellular - that's it! not numpty questions at all - quite impressively informed ones - made me remember I need to get another of those awful nighties as I had to throw one away last time as covered in bloodd (not to scare you or anything)!!!

Might try one of those you mentioned wizzska - sound much nicer...

suey2 · 08/11/2007 17:37

was it really £50 for that bag! I had no idea- it was such a blur going around with the nursery lady. DH paid for that lot- i tend to be a little more careful with the pennies.
Skid i hope you are at home and asleep. It sounds like we are all overdoing it TBH! C'mon ladies the only thing we should be looking after now is ourselves, and on that note PELVIC FLOOR. And kitkats.
Hope LO engages soon, want to get on with the tick list- nursing bras etc. Must also get some nursing tops from H&M.

Bouncingturtle · 08/11/2007 17:42

I bought button through night dresses for £6 each at Matalan. Really nice ones too.
Thanks for the info on expressing, that was helpful. Think I'll suck it and see (or rather baby will!).
Saw MW asked about water births, she said to ring labour ward as they do water birth classes and you can tour the labout ward after 34 weeks (which I'll be on Sunday) so will try and sort something out then.

claireybraxtonhicks · 08/11/2007 17:51

I have a couple of front opening nightshirts but just used to leave them undone (boobs exposed!) as they were too fiddly to be undoing and doing up in the middle of the night. I found vest top type pyjamas the best thing after the first week or so cos could just pull the top down to feed.

FIL has just opened another can of worms-apparently if we have a boy we have to get him circumcised at 8 days old. It's a cultural thing not religious, dh hadn't thought about it either until now cos he wasn't raised in that culture. I'm not really against it, just don't see the point of doing it just for the sake of it. More discussion coming up tonight on that point!

Am just googling to find out more cos tbh I don't really know much about it...

skidaddle · 08/11/2007 17:55

suey - i am still here at work, doing no work but on mn instead . I have however cancelled a one day conference in Manchester next week which would have involved getting up at 5am and not getting back home until 11pm! You are right we should ALL be on ML now and resting up and relaxing and getting ready - should we all go on strike?

waterbirth classes sound great bouncing - will have to ask my mw if they ahve them here

suey - are you supposed to wait until the head engages before buying nursing bras?

skidaddle · 08/11/2007 17:56

oh my goodness clairey - on what basis does he have to be circumcised then? Is it just a tradition in the family? What does your DH think about it?

loucee · 08/11/2007 18:01

Hi everyone

Thanks for the goodwishes for DD, worth remember for those with little ones - apparently it's common in the under 3s.

SarahPT - DD liked to be swaddled for the first few weeks so I used one blanket to do that and then put a further one or two on her when she was going to bed to keep her warm. Then she hated swaddling and so I used the Grobags, really easy IMO.I would buy some blankets as always handy to put the little one on or use with the pram/carseat etc

Front opening nightshirt - I got two in Primark

Sorry such a quick post - have to dash

claireybraxtonhicks · 08/11/2007 18:15

Yeah I think it's just a tribal tradition (DH's dad is Nigerian-Yoruba tribe). Back in the day I think it was mainly done for hygiene reasons.

It's not important to DH for cultural reasons but he doesn't really see any reason why not. Then again dd should've had her ears pierced at 6 months but dh said he'd rather wait until she could choose to for herself so maybe when it comes down to it he won't want to.

Times like this I wish we knew the sex cos it could be irrelevant to us anyway!

Amani · 08/11/2007 18:31

Evening all
Talking about hospital bags, I keep adding little bits and bob to mine and it looks like I'll be needing a suitcase soon. You should see when I go on holiday, packing everything including the kitching sink..!!

Clariy - if we have a boy - we'll have to get him circumcised as part of our religion although there is no tme limit. Culturally we get it done within the first 6 months.

Eek just read this and it made me cry!
I don't like the idea of inflicting pain on a days old baby-aaargh don't know what to think! It worries me that it says they may feel pain during, and that they WILL after. Also that weeing will hurt and nappies could rub. And you can't even give calpol at that age...
Anyone else had/having to make this decision?

claireybraxtonhicks · 08/11/2007 18:37

Thanks Amani, cross posted. See religious grounds kind of make more sense to me in a way. If it could be left until 6 months I might prefer that but if we were to do it the "proper" way for the culture then we'd have to do it either by or at 8 days old, I forget which.

tabimum · 08/11/2007 18:52

Can i come back in please? Been sooo busy at work, and having a nightmare time at home - so didnt have time/energy to log on. Now on maternity leave so should be able to be more involved. I will find that list of dates and add myself back in (EDD 27th Dec) but am being told that baby is breech, so likely c-section a week or so before that date.

DH (although not so Darling) is going through some sort of mid-life crisis and is now telling me that he doesnt want this baby - bit late now...and funny he didnt say any of these things when we were creating her...and its not like I tricked him into it....he started a new business a month or so after we found out I was pregnant, and he is now saying that he wont be able to take more than one day off (the day I actually give birth) - so god only knows how I am supposed to cope with DD1 (18 months) and newborn after c-section! Apologies for rant....!!

Will sort that list out soon and post.

cazzybabs · 08/11/2007 19:57

tabimum - poor you! I am sure your dh will change his mind when the db is born or you will cope because you have too! Is there anyone else who can help you near by?

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 08/11/2007 20:00

tabimum

go into the kitchen and get a heavy pan

then go and find dh and hit him on head with it!!

he needs a reality check. How very selfish to be telling you at this late stage even if he is having a few doubts (lets face it we all have odd moments) but to tell you he can only take one day off?! He needs to sort out his priorities out!

Men eh

dazedorconfused · 08/11/2007 20:43

Sorry complete tangent to interrupt!

Can you do urine sample into something else before decanting (eeugh!) Aim has gone badly off since losing ability to see what I'm doing and need one for tomorrow.

Was worried using cup might have dishwasher powder or something daft which would throw results?

Neurotic I know!!

macdoodle · 08/11/2007 20:47

Clean with hot soapy water and rinse well should be fine...alternatively ask GP for disposable foil trays they use for instruments etc...alternatively just ask MW for stick and go pee directly on it thats what I do

Housemum · 08/11/2007 20:53

I used the lid of a deodorant spray as it was larger than the stupid little pot - just gave it a quick rinse out.

dazedorconfused · 08/11/2007 22:00

Thanks! Pregnancy can be so glamorous at times!

Bouncingturtle · 09/11/2007 07:18

I have a little plastic bowl which I keep in my bathroom expressly for the purpose, it is awkward! I just wash it out with hot soapy water after use.
