Thought I'd start a new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Neuro · 08/11/2007 12:05

hi birds
juist saying saying hi. HI!
i'm glued to Season 2 Sopranos now....and eating a fried egg sarnie, so not going to read too much about perineal massage. i'm too lazy to do it. Why don't you ladies with hubbys/bfs get them to do it? i'm sure they'd be more than happy!
I am finally going to buy my hospital bag supplies this weekend, with my mum. Can anyone reccommend any shops which are doing offers on various things at the mo?
I've got to find my lists...they're round here somehwere, i've tidied them up!
Hope you're all well
BADDA-BING

suey2 · 08/11/2007 12:09

ha neuro- our baby's changing bag is by a brand called baba bing! DH was a little dubious about buying it because of the soprano's connotations but it was the least flowery one.
We finally watched the last episode last week. it will be missed

mixedmama · 08/11/2007 12:14

Neuro babysrus are great for good deals... most Toyrus have them. Someone posted about Sainsburys on Jan thread i think, half price bits and bobs.

mixedmama · 08/11/2007 12:15

oh and superdrug do 10 mat pads for 99p

macdoodle · 08/11/2007 12:18

ouch suey nice bag but £50 for a changing bag - mine wa free with my silver cross pram and looks quite similar

Neuro · 08/11/2007 12:23

thank you!

i can't wait to go shopping. Think cos of previous miscarriage i've been overly superstitious about buying anything. Spoke to a friend yesterday who had her hosp bag packed at 20 weeks.

Amani · 08/11/2007 13:23

Neuro - I got my nappy bag free with Boot Parents Club. Not too fussed whether it's 'labelled' or not. Most mat pads are about 10 for a £1.

Had a nice relaxing morning (although admittly I did clean the bathroom) and now enjoying lasagne and watching crap tv.

dundeemarmalade · 08/11/2007 13:27

afternoon everyone.
cor blimey guvna i don't know how anybody copes with having more than one child- am totally whacked and haven't even been at work. mind you, the days seem to be flying past and i really can't get my head round the fact that i'm only three and a half weeks away from being 'full term', even if the niblet isn't likely to appear for another five or six. blimey.

hospital bag has been on stand-by since friday night when i had a couple of hours of increasingly uncomfortable cramping pains. v scary and all the hypnotherapy went out the window. dr reckons is cos baby is working it's way down into my pelvis. i always thought that sounded like a painful process, and it looks like i was right! hey ho.

btw, having been all smug about not having any stretch marks, when dh was doing perineal massage (my arms won't actually reach round my hippo-like belly) he commented that it looked like someone had been stirring jam under my skin. nice. so now i've got a stretchy fanjo and a marbled tum. am truly a goddess, not.

becklebigbump · 08/11/2007 13:47

Hello all! Just popping on to say hi!
Dundee - stretch marks do tend to creep up on you! Thankfully I don't seem to have any new ones yet (touch wood) but hey, plenty of time for that! Got them on my thighs with DS1 and on my tum with DS2, where is left? My hips and lower back maybe? Have to say that babies are worth every mark they leave on you!
Scary when you get cramps! I had a couple of BHs yesterday which were actually painfull so am definitely going to get bags packed this weekend just in case. Looking forward to washing and ironing the little sleepsuits!
Hope everyone else is okay!

Wizzska · 08/11/2007 13:54

at all you people not at work. Dundee - am expecting my stretchies to appear any day now. Can't believe I've got away with it for this long. Have heard others on MN say they got theirs in the last week. Fingers crossed they don't appear. Am thinking I've managed to do well so far because I lost 2 stone on a diet when in my mid twenties - perhaps the skin was stretched then.

cazzybabs · 08/11/2007 13:57

I never got any strech marks with either of the girls (may be 3rd time unlikely though) but I do get fat thighs ...why why why. my thighs have doubled in size. They are so unattractive (and they weren't espcially nice to start with!).

Am trying to write my reports this week at school - but am very very bored and lacking motivation. Have done all the easy ones and am struggling with the harder ones. Am off on a school trip on Tues - bet I will be knackered in the afternoon. Hey ho. 3 and a half weeks to go, but anytime after the 6th would suit me very well please baby.

Wizzska · 08/11/2007 13:59

Stuff this work malarkey, I'm off to get a chocolate muffin!

claireybraxtonhicks · 08/11/2007 14:14

Strange things in the Clairey household, not sure whether dh was being a mumsnet spy and read my AIBU thread or whether he just sensed I had had enough but the other night he brought the buggy in before I even had a chance to ask him (it did take him about 15 minutes to work out how to collapse it and I did hear one of the neighbours asking if he needed help but still...progress!). Then last night he came home, took dd off upstairs for her bath then cooked dinner for us! Is like I'm married to a different man all of a sudden! I actually felt quite guilty sat on my arse doing nothing last night while he did all of that, especially as dd had a mammoth sleep in the afternoon so I'd also had a lazy day! Anyway, he has now proved that he can do all of this if he puts his mind to it which makes me feel better about the whole thing really.

Fifi am glad you are feeling better today, think we've all had a bad day or 2 at some point during pregnancy but if you really do think it could be more than that then don't hesitate to talk to someone about it-there is nothing worse than ignoring depression hoping will go away.

Loucee that must have been scary for you but thankfully it was easily fixed.

Buzzy glad things are on the up, lovely pic too!

Housemum I can't believe you have wrapped your pressies already! I havent even bought mine yet-gulp!

Amani-I have both the medela mini and avent isis-both are good but found medela got let down quicker but then avent could get more milk out in a shorter time.

Re changing bags, I had one that came with buggy and a huggies one that came with boots parenting club however when I was bf dd I mostly just used to stick a nappy in my handbag. When she went onto bottles I just bought a bigger handbag-hated the changing bags for some reason!

Yesterday when dd was sleeping I looked through some of the mumsnet classics threads-a couple of them made me laugh out loud. I'm just not witty enough to post on anything like that though! Well worth a look if you have a spare few minutes

becklebigbump · 08/11/2007 14:15

That'll be water retention Cazzy, I had it when carrying both my boys - the fluid seems to prefer my ankles this time though...

cazzybabs · 08/11/2007 14:17

water retention on my thighs - mind you sounds better than fat retention...

ahhhh - have been staring at my reports for the past 45 minutes. Have typed 4 words...come on CBs

cazzybabs · 08/11/2007 14:20

BTW as anyone esle got sore boobs - mine hurt. Am sure there be milk in them hills (or something like that).

And my pelvis hurts..

oh god please please don't come early baby....

Curlygirly · 08/11/2007 14:45

Afternoon all. Am sat here enjoying the quiet before the storm. It's ds1 birthday today and it will a madhouse here when he gets back from school.

Cazzy- haven't got sore boobs but getting bad backache. Our computer chair is so uncomfortable that I can rarely be bothered to chat anymore co I always end up with backache.

Wizzska · 08/11/2007 15:18

Feeling very low movements in my pelvis today and yesterday. Wonder if its baba's head trying to engage. Has anyone's little one engaged yet? What does it feel like?

mixedmama · 08/11/2007 15:39

Clairey - pleased things seem to be on the up.

I have a couple of hours spare.... will look at those threads... just spent the last 2.5 hours watching a whole meladramtic Turkish film in 10 parts on You Tube. Roll on mat leave.

My boobs hurt too and leaked spontaneously the other day and i was just in PJs and was quite shocked.

Wizzka - i remember going to the MW and her telling me DS had engaged but dont remember it happening, but I know that many women do feel it.

skidaddle · 08/11/2007 15:44

wizzska - I think my baby's head's engaged (one doc said 4/5 and another said not at all ) and I feel sort of shooting pains at the bottom of my pelvis when I walk - do you get this? Think it's common when the head's engaging

claireybh- great news about your DH

fifi - poor you, I feel like that sometimes -I think it is just part of being pg. Glad you're feeling a bit better

claraq - love my new name - will try and change it in a minute

cazzybabs - i also have fat retention on my thighs - I am SURE it's not water retention and also think I have milk in my boobs - they feel all full and liquidy!

Couldn't sleep until 1am and then was up from 3-4.30am last night just coughing continuously - feel so exhausted and am getting nothing done at work. Maybe I should just go home again (esp. after hearing amani's and suey's descriptions of their days!!)

mememummy · 08/11/2007 16:14

dont be suprised if babys head engages then pops back out has already happened to me twice, and boobs leaking is really annoying mine seem to continuosly leak and if im in public they sem to leak more, but its all good

SarahPT · 08/11/2007 16:38

hello everybody
was feeling so miserable before logging on to MN
Have back ache and my ankles look like they should be on an elephant not a person!
Feel better now that have reminded myself that we;re all fed up in some way!
Think the kitkat helped as well !

I'm now over my blip and am going back to being practical

Am 37 weeks this weekend so need to get bag packed asap and also sort out rest of nursery stuff

DH still in denial as thinks we've got plenty of time (!!)

So can I ask a few quick questions:-

Are the baby sleeping bag things good and if so - do I need to buy blankets as well or just a sheet for the bottom of the cotbed?

Also - where's good for one of these front opening nightshirts that I keep reading that I need to pack in my hospital bag

Sorry to be a pain but any help would be much appreciated

Ooh - and whoever was asking about cheap stuff for hopsital bag - Matalan do a 5 pack of granny knickers for £2.50

becklebigbump · 08/11/2007 16:39

Trust me Cazzy, it was definitely water I carried on my thighs with the boys. I remember clearly about 5 days after DS2 was born my jeans were suddenly very loose on my legs and they had been really tight. Water is the only explanation I can think of!

Plus, as you say, it sounds better than fat retention!

becklebigbump · 08/11/2007 16:41

skidaddle · 08/11/2007 16:44

Sarah

Are the baby sleeping bag things good

Yes, brilliant IMO

and if so - do I need to buy blankets as well or just a sheet for the bottom of the cotbed?

I wouldn't bother with blankets - we bought loads and barely used them - although I think the recommendation is to use those ones with little holes in (forget what they're called)

Also - where's good for one of these front opening nightshirts that I keep reading that I need to pack in my hospital bag

I got mine in Mothercare but there are probably cheaper places

thanks for the Matalan big knickers tip!

beckle - i think that could still be fat retantion - my thighs also went down within a week of having dd but I thought it was just losing weight really fast through bf - maybe you're rightthough...
