😂 oh @PurplePansy05 good luck! I don’t have a great aim and think that the whole tiny pot to pee in is a terribly flawed design.

@Alittlexmasmagic sorry you’re dealing with insomnia. Good point on folic acid and a good reminder I should eat more veg and less beige 🤣

Your baby is already thinking like most of us @MrsB2019x! Hope you feel better.

xx

Alittlexmasmagic · 08/02/2021 10:50

If anyone has a toddler already.... I use the removable pot that comes in some to pee in, then decant into the sample jar.
I bought DS an all singing all dancing one, where you can remove the seat (plus pot) and place it over the loo. He hates it!! Came in great when I was doing OPKS 😂 x

Alittlexmasmagic · 08/02/2021 10:51

Some potty's that should say x

PurplePansy05 · 08/02/2021 11:45

🤣🤣🤣 So glad I'm not alone with my pot troubles! I thought I was being stupid!
I think they were clearly designed by men! My DH said he has no issue with aiming, I was like well good on you, my urine flows wonky, sorry 🤣🤣🤣 xx

MrsB2019x · 08/02/2021 11:58

@PurplePansy05 That and he has more control over his aim! 🙄 we can’t see what we’re doing!

PurplePansy05 · 08/02/2021 12:02

@MrsB2019x I got so flustered in the hospital at my 12 week scan, I had a long dress on, long scarf, long coat, bag and held pregnancy notes and there wasn't anywhere to just leave this stuff. The toilet was really high too and I'm not tall, it was Faulty Towers right there! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

biscuitcat · 08/02/2021 12:09

@PurplePansy05 @MrsB2019x I've had a problem with a stubborn bladder for urine samples 😂 at my booking appointment I drank so much so I could give a sample and just COULD NOT PEE, I ended up having to drink water for the whole appointment (which was lovely actually as I didn't need to wear a mask...) until I finally managed to have a little wee - not even enough to fill the tiny test tube!

lucyrp · 08/02/2021 12:20

Very awkward baby measuring at 13 weeks🥰

August 2021 - Scans and booking in!
Whatshouldbemyusername · 08/02/2021 12:30

@lucyrp such a cutie! 🥰

All those who have done the scan - a full bladder meaning how much do we have drink and how in advance?

Also how many on this group are pregnant for the first time and are checking the sex of their baby? My partner and I are not going to check the sex of the baby .. so will probably start messaging later when it comes to shopping for gender neutral baby stuff 😊

WinterBabyof89 · 08/02/2021 12:55

@PurplePansy05 the toilets are not equipped are they!
I’m having my scan today and had the exact scenario as you.. coat, scarf, notes, water - no hook!

Lovely photo @lucyrp

My little one is bang on dates at 12+3. The scan picture isn’t as good as my previous ones which is disappointing but pleased baby is growing!
Told my kiddos and my eldest took the news well and is looking forward to it. My youngest (5yrs) is not happy hahaha doesn’t want any part of this baby in his life.

How did everybody else’s kids take the news?

Alittlexmasmagic · 08/02/2021 12:56

@lucyrp lovely pic!!

@Whatshouldbemyusername we're 2nd baby here and won't be finding out sex. Gender neutral stuff now is way better than it was (beige) and there are some gorgeous bright coloured printed babygros. I'm a stickler in that I have to have pure white cotton vests regardless (pref. M&S).

A full bladder to me means trying not to pee in the hour before the appointment. I have a stash of sample jars at home so I try to get a sample well in advance and have it ready. My next scan is 8.20 so I'll take the sample and wee for the last time at 7ish. Have a brew as normal and maybe sip water whilst waiting x

lucyrp · 08/02/2021 13:01

Thanks girls🥰🥰In regard to full bladder I drank the recommended 500ml an hour before but it wasn't enough. I had to drink 3 glasses half way through the scan and they had to try again but only because the baby wouldn't move to the right position for the measurements

BertieBotts · 08/02/2021 13:05

DS 12 is really excited and happy. He wants it to be a girl because he says we have too many boys in our house.

DS 2.5 doesn't really get it but is excited by mention of the "baby in mummy's tummy" and keeps talking about who has one and who doesn't. He likes to look at pictures but isn't really sure about touching or listening to my belly etc.

YY don't overdo the full bladder - just don't go for a wee as soon as you arrive at the hospital, or before you leave if your journey is short (I don't know about you, but pregnancy for me means peeing as soon as I get everywhere) I used to take a bottle of water and chug down 500ml but that just makes you really uncomfortable especially if the appointment runs on.

Weird. I guess my advice is wrong then :P

I wonder what is so different about UK scan machines that they need a full bladder whereas it's not a thing that's asked anywhere else in the world??

Whatshouldbemyusername · 08/02/2021 13:13

Thank you so much @Alittlexmasmagic @BertieBotts and @lucyrp - I will try have a litre an hour before the scan but yes it’s like a constant need to pee at all times and this is abit of a concern. We’re in between homes so driving from Farnborough to London for our appointment! Was hoping would have moved to London by now but due to restrictions and lockdown this has delayed the process.

Also thank you for the tips on gender neutral clothes shopping. Am I correct in assuming I don’t need to shop too much when baby is being born and then once baby is born I can buy more stuff dependent on the sex of baby. Defo going for pure white cotton vests too. Apparently John Lewis has really good ones and they are usually on sale x

Smallbean27 · 08/02/2021 13:19

@lucyrp great scan photo!

@whatshouldbemyusername 1st timer here, we are also going to have a surprise for the gender!

Carefree1 · 08/02/2021 13:29

@lucyrp aww what a lovely scan picture 🥰

FWIW it seems that advice everywhere is different about full bladders. I was told not to have a full bladder, I’m in south east England. But we’re also not allowed partners to attend scans despite the change in advice 🤷‍♀️

MrsB2019x · 08/02/2021 13:36

@lucyrp Lovely scan! 🥰

@Whatshouldbemyusername I was told to have a comfortably full bladder.. so I guess not fit to bursting but definitely something in there! I last went for a wee about 2 hours before mine and drank a bottle of water. Also first baby here and definitely finding out the sex - neutral baby clothes just don’t float my boat tbh! Not that mine will be a sea of all blue or all pink..

Miniheart · 08/02/2021 13:44

Congrats @lucyrp - lovely photo! You must be so pleased!

@Whatshouldbemyusername I’m a first timer and we’ve decided not to find out the sex. I think there’s loads of options for us to choose from without knowing the sex so hopefully we won’t have too much trouble. When I had my private scan I drank about of liter of water about an hour before and my bladder was suitably full! I actually had to go out and pee a little bit half way through the scan to better be able to see positioning and that was really hard as I was told not to empty the bladder fully!

PurplePansy05 · 08/02/2021 14:46

Congratulations on the lovely scans and good 12 week news everyone! 💐

I'm a first timer although I always feel awkward saying this because of my previous losses. I'm a first time rainbow mum, shall we say. As most of you know, we know the sex but we've always thought to make the nursery nice and bright in neutral colours, that's just how we imagined it. Maybe a happy yellow? I think my son will have a real mix of white and colourful clothes, toys and everything really 🤣 By the time he's spoilt by family and friends I think we'll have a real mix and I can't wait tbh. I definitely won't be an instamum, everything colour coordinated etc., I think I've done enough of it in other parts of the house, baby boy's kingdom will be a beautiful artistic mess🤣 Thank you for the baby clothes recommendations, I think I might start look into this next month maybe, just want to get the house move out of the way first xx

lucyrp · 08/02/2021 14:51

@Smallbean27 @Carefree1 @MrsB2019x @Miniheart thank you girls 🥰🥰

Really relieved now and can relax again for a week or two 😂 although an awkward baby in the scan doesn't bode well for when they're born does it ?😜

Whatshouldbemyusername · 08/02/2021 15:15

@MrsB2019x aaaw ofcourse. Every pregnancy is different and whatever works for each of us.

@Smallbean27 @Miniheart

Whatshouldbemyusername · 08/02/2021 15:16

Hit enter before I was ready. I was going to say thank you all for the advise on bladder for daring scan and @Smallbean27 and @Miniheart was just going to say it’s going to be a fun journey 😊x

biscuitcat · 08/02/2021 15:35

@lucyrp lovely picture! What a sweetie 🥰

@Whatshouldbemyusername I'm a first timer and we're having a surprise, currently we're very slowly decorating the little bedroom to be a nursery. We've gone for yellow walls and I love it, it feels so happy going in there! And have found the cutest cow fabric for curtains so we're going for a farm animal theme.

MrsB2019x · 08/02/2021 15:57

@lucyrp My baby was being awkward for measurements too if it helps 😂
