Can't believe it. Just got my BFP today and by my reckoning baby should be due 1st July.
Is there anyone else out there?

there is no one to leave our children with, paula, so yes, would prefer to be at home.

i had stitches BIG time with DD1, kitty!

i was so afraid i was going to tear along the scar with DD2, but the midwives were great, i gave birth on my fours and got only a graze.

expatinscotland · 05/11/2007 22:07

my dad and all his brother's and sisters were at home.

he was a third child.

born in 45 minutes!

sweetkitty · 05/11/2007 22:11

I had loads of stitches with DD1 too expat but only a graze with DD2.

With DD2 I was booked in for induction and was in bits as it meant DP would have missed it and no one to look after DD1, we were so lucky in that DD1 slept through the whole thing (and I was not quiet) got up in the morning had milk downstairs with Daddy then came up and got into bed with DD2 and I for a cuddle - it was lovely.

45 minutes would suit me fine

paulaplumpbottom · 05/11/2007 22:17

I think that is really lovely, that you can make it such a family experiance

libralady · 05/11/2007 22:20

You expert ladies are certainly giving me hope. Although I had a quick 1st labour (just 5 hours with only G&A) I did tear badly and needed 3 layers of stitches. Found the stitching worse than the labour itself although it wasn't that bad either, so I hoping now that it won't happen this time. Apparently it was all my fault anyway (so DH tells me) I wasn't listening to the MW when she said pant. I just pushed and he came out all in one with his cord wrapped around his neck. Luckily it was an exceptionally long cord. Personally based on my experience last time, give me labour anyday over pregnancy!

Its hard not to push when its all your entire being wants to do

libralady · 05/11/2007 22:25

Funny things was, I had the urge a lot earlier to push, but being a first timer I didn't know the feelings you get down there and was convinced that if I did I would poo instead. In the end I just thought to myself, sod this, pusssssssssssssssssssssh and he came out! Sorry if way tmi

libralady - I was the same with DD1 4h 20 minute labour, and I didn't wait for the head just pushed like mad and she shot out, that along with the hand by her face caused the damage, second degree tear and as you say almost as bad as the labour, at one point I had 4 midwives all staring at my car crash fanjo saying that they couldn't stitch it up, they had to get a doctor in especially I was thinking OMG. Healed well though.

With DD2 I was terrified of it happening again but as I knew the MWs I had told them all about it, she said she started to see the tear go again and supported it and made me wait for ages so I could stretch. DD2 was 9lbs 3ozs and only a graze. So you could be ok too this time.

I have said I am going in at 38 weeks for an induction, full epidural the works but I know I won't (but we will see how bad the SPD gets)

paula - it was a lovely experience we have their first meeting on video camera too, DP wanted to film the birth I said no way. I gave birth at 4am, had an hours sleep got up and was putting on washings etc at 10am, felt great and I think a lot of that was due to not being in hospital.

sweetkitty · 05/11/2007 22:28

You are so right it does feel like a huge poo, I never thought it would feel as anal.

paulaplumpbottom · 05/11/2007 22:30

I couldn't imagine having someone film it. My dad took pictures of my birth and it was all very unneccesary

expatinscotland · 05/11/2007 22:37

i felt like i was beign disembowelled with DD2.

honestly.

i got there and couldn't walk anymore and the midwife said, 'do you feel like you have to push?'

i said, 'i feel like i need to do a giant shit.'

i was rushed to a delivery suite .

nurse was saying, 'that's baby's head you're feeling!'

sweetkitty · 05/11/2007 22:46

I do have a picture of me and DD2 2 minutes after she was born and plunked on me, still attached to the cord, she's screaming her lungs out and I look like I've been hit by a bus (may post it one day but it will scare the first timers too much), now hurry up and say no chage there then.

pigleychez · 05/11/2007 22:59

thanks ladies!

Just reading the thread before off to bed, My head is filled with lovely thoughts now!

I know its not all wine and roses but think ill worry about that nearer the time! Although it is good to prepared!

sweetkitty · 05/11/2007 23:02

pigley - if it were that bad why would I have wanted to do it a third time so bad? Labour is only one day and they are well well worth it, wait until you see your babies face for the first time, nothing comes close (I'm off to bed now am welling up must be the hormones)

baby3 · 06/11/2007 08:21

I agree Sweetkitty, more often even less than 1 day!! My first labour was 4 hours from first sign which was my waters breaking to birth and second was 7 hours, although i'd been in prelabour with him for days before. No stitches with either and nothing for pain, just my personal belief that I could do it!! Infact i'd rather give birth 4 times over then go through the first 3 months of pregnancy!! This time I want a homebirth and I'd like some to have a camcorder so I can watch it after, as you do really forget!!

paulaplumpbottom · 06/11/2007 09:13

I think you forget all that pain the minute you hold your baby. It all just fades away. Best pain reliever ever invented.

isaidno · 06/11/2007 10:29

I had a homebirth with DS2 and I will def try for another with this one.

And my secret's out - we cracked and told people last night!

paulaplumpbottom · 06/11/2007 12:54

I had to have forceps last time so its definatly on to the hospital for me

expatinscotland · 06/11/2007 13:10

having had forceps doesn't necessarily mean hospital birth the next time, though.

depends on why you needed a forceps delivery.

mine was because the baby's position and having her hand and arm up above her ear prevented her from descending properly.

but the next time was fine!

my mother is fecking doing my nut!

birth is over-medicalised in teh US and when i told her you don't see a midwife here till 16 weeks she went nuts.

she also said, 'tell them to give you a smear test. how do you know you're pregnant?'

gees, mama, let's see, all those positive pregnancy tests, no period, fatigue like a thunderclap at around 4PM and boobs that hurt by the slightest touch. that's sort of a clue.

when i told her about homebirth, she said, 'i'm sure the midwives prefer being in hospital.'

[rolls eyes]

at least my dad stepped it! 'i was born at home just fine.'

he had to do the same when i was breastfeeding. my mother was convinced the baby was starving.

my dad had to remind her that he was bf'd for 2 years and he's still here.

jazzandh · 06/11/2007 13:12

Hiya ladies, can I join you all. Have just got BFP, edd 13 July have DS 3.1

No symptoms here yet - but had an inkling for some reason and have been lurking on this thread.

It has taken a year to get here - but DS1 took 4 - so am actually quite .

In fact have spent so long convincing myself and everyone else that I don't want another to avoid the pressure that I feel quite odd. I have a tendancy to try and think of every negative that I can as a warped mental protection, that I now need to get my head into gear, and it's too early to tell anyone yet! It won't feel real until the first scan.

DH is delighted - but he adores babies anyway....

can anyone identify?

expatinscotland · 06/11/2007 13:13

congrats, jazz!

paulaplumpbottom · 06/11/2007 13:20

Congrats Jazz

That may be, but I have had sevral miscarriages and can't get anyone to give a damn. A friend of mine had one miscarriage in the States and they looked into it. She just had a small tear in her womb. If you can look after yourself and everything is normal its great here but if you are having problems its not the best place to be.

I do love here that your health visitor visits you at home here after. You don't get that in the states

expatinscotland · 06/11/2007 13:27

true, paula.

but it is very medicalised there.

mama rabbited on and on until i finally snapped, 'i am pregnant not ill!'

i had a miscarriage in the US and they didn't look into it.

of course, i had no health insurance and had to go to county as it was a missed miscarriage.

Mummywannabe · 06/11/2007 13:48

Congrats Jazz! I got my BFP on sat, 1st baby, also EDD 13th July. Glad your not feeling too bad, i have nausea especially if i get hungry!

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 06/11/2007 13:55
