Hello slipedisc.... welcome.

suey - glad the move went well... currently throwing dates around for chinese... altho Wood Green has been suggested, not sure how that works for you or anybody else in Dec who would like to come. I think Neuro is down in London in Nove so hoepfully will rope her in too.

skidaddle · 29/10/2007 15:12

lol MM it's strange how we are always right and our DHs are always wrong isn't it?

Ah well at least he is back at work and you have one definite salary at least. Would be v. scary if you went on ML and you didn't know where your next pay cheque was coming from..

Bouncingturtleskulls · 29/10/2007 15:12

Welcome slippeddisc, put your feet up and grab a cup of tea!

mixedmama · 29/10/2007 15:12

That would have been awful, but I would have made him go back to work the moment I found out I was preg would take no chances there.

Blackcatswizzskas · 29/10/2007 15:18

Mm - The wife always knows best! It just takes a while for our husbands to realise this fact.

I'd do a chinese in Wood Green. I live near so it's good for me. Depends how late in November though. What if the boy comes early .

Welcome Slippeddisc.

Suey - congrats on the move. Must be great to have finally done it. Now for the unpacking and nesting!

mixedmama · 29/10/2007 15:30

cool.... will let you know what dates are flying around.

insywinsyspider · 29/10/2007 15:35

hello slippeddisc

mm - I think paternity is statatory leave so dh should be able to take it?! I thought it was the same as SMP - dh works for very small company and was first to ever take pat leave so they got him to do all the leg work in phoning tax office and sorting it out - I think he downloaded some formed off interweb, might be worth having a look

congrats on move suey - let the nesting commence

mixedmama · 29/10/2007 15:55

will have a look, he is technically self employed i think so hope that doesnt make a difference..

loucee · 29/10/2007 17:19

Welcome Slippeddisc

Suey - brilliant that you've moved and online so soon!

Just re-packing my hospital bag now, have I forgotten anything?:
Me: Nightshirt to deliver in, clothes, underwear, breastpads, toiletries, magazines, dressing gown, nightwear, slippers, pads
Baby: Nappies, babygros, vests, blanket, cotton wool, hat, mitts.

I know it doesn't look much but last time I took so much in it was ridiculous and really regretted it when I was unpacking it the other side (and poor DH lugging it in!)

Blackcatswizzskas · 29/10/2007 17:35

Loucee - don't forget to take something to take the baby home in - car seat or pram. I've been told to put energy bars or snacks in too just in case.

Blackcatswizzskas · 29/10/2007 17:36

There are some good ideas on this thread Loucee www.mumsnet.com/Talk/49/414103

Housemum · 29/10/2007 17:51

Well, ignore MN for a week and everything changes! Afraid i haven't got the time to go through all the messages so I hope everyone is OK as we go towards November (and being able to say that your baby is due "next month" aaaaghh! It's getting closer!)

DH was working from home last week, as well as it being half term, so couldn't skive off housework to mooch around online! (I actually had to DO the housework so he could believe it does take all day and I don't really whizz round with a damp cloth then log on...) Still, I have a beautifully organised filing system and the photos are now up-to-date in albums.

Went to see the maternity unit to see if it had changed much as they had a refit since DD2 was born - the loo situation is better, they now have one between 2 labour rooms (before, it was across the corridor, one to 4 rooms . They have "home-from-home" rooms which I was keen to see - turns out that I can't use one as they are for the lowest risk mums, and a previous section counts against me even though I had a successful VBAC Not that it bothers me - the room is identical, but with a sofa. Which I couldn't see me using as it was quite low down, so it's only DH that misses out

Anyway, must do dinner - chat again soon!

Caz10 · 29/10/2007 18:43

Hello all and welcome slippeddisc (and ow!).

Buzzy I'm sorry to hear your news, but you sound like you've got absolutely the right attitude and will be a wonderful mummy. I think human beings are just amazing in terms of what we can cope with - you never want anything bad to happen but when it does, people manage amazingly well. (Sorry, I don't mean by that that if your DD has DS it will be "bad")

I did something amazingly stupid - well not on purpose - was watching a programme where a couple were talking about their experiences of having a stillborn baby. I ended up in hysterical tears convinced it would happen to me, snot flowing everywhere. Don't know why I just didn't turn the damn thing off!! It was so sad.

Whoever was saying they were fed up with their house - ME TOO!! Ours is TINY, everything is everywhere as we try to clear a space for baby stuff, we're living out of boxes and it's a nightmare!! Trying to be ruthless and throw stuff but I'm feeling really fat and useless not being able to humph boxes etc.

Not long to goooooo....!!!!!

cazzybabs · 29/10/2007 20:02

Buzzy - I hope you are OK and I hope your LO only turns out to have minor heart/bowel problems. You sound really positive about it - I think I would turn into a bitter old woman - why me, why no-one else etc? So I hope someone is looking after you - and giving you lots of cuddles and support. Please let us know the results on Weds.

My lady started today - it is very wierd to think only 5 weeks left and then a baby.

Is anyone else having a homebirth?

We ordered our kitchen floor tiles today - a 1000pounds of stress - will they look good? Will they bo cold? We nearly went for underfloor heating, but our electrain said no don't do it....oh well. Dh makes me tea in the morning and I can buy a good pair of slippers (or slipoos as my dd1 spells it!)

loucee · 29/10/2007 21:58

thanks for the link Wizzskas!

Cazzy - ooh floor tiles sound lovely. IME kitchen floors are always cold no matter what the covering!

Caz10 - oh hunny, please don't upset yourself by watching things like that. Awful things can happen and it's so tragic but you must stay positive and think of how rare those things are.

insywinsyspider · 30/10/2007 08:00

very quick message as I'm determined to get some work done today! I am such a slacker at the moment and the guy transfering from another department to take over from me still hasn't showed up

anyway mixedmama I had a flick through the web last night as I had to find info for dh again and found this link to [http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/WorkAndFamilies/DG_10029398 Paternity Leave and Pay] from what i can gather it all depends how your dh defines his status - it is possible to be self employed and be an employee for tax purposes i.e. if he works for his own company as a director, hope it helps who hate to think of anyone missing out on thinigs they are entitled too especially when so many people rip the system off

hope everyone has a good day (although I know I'll be checking in later )

insywinsyspider · 30/10/2007 08:05

Amani · 30/10/2007 08:32

Morning all,

Slept a little better last night - instead of the usual 12am - 4am awake mode, kept waking up, but drifting off again. Seeing m/w this morning and going to ask her about the sleeplessness. Thanks to the lovely ladies who thought of me.

Caz10 - I was a little like that - when I found out I was pregnant, a few days later a good friend delivered a baby that passed away after 7 hrs. It really affected it, but my wonderful DH really supported me and made me realise that these things are indeed rare and to remain positive and enjoy my pregnancy.

loucee · 30/10/2007 09:32

Morning!

Glad you're feeling a bit better Amani, nothing worse than waking up more tired than you were before you went to bed.

Amani · 30/10/2007 09:55

Am back from m/w everything ok, baby not yet engaged which is not a worry until 36 weeks. Asked m/w about lack of sleep and she mentioned it is normal for this stage in the pregnancy not to be sleeping well and suggested using Sleepeez (sp?) which is suitable for pregnant women, think I will have to give it a go.

claraq · 30/10/2007 10:15

Morning everyone.
Amani (glad you got a better nights sleep last night - long may it continue!)- just out of curiousity, is it a problem if the baby hasn't engaged at 36 weeks? I will be 36 weeks on Saturday and am off to see the consultant this Thursday - eg 36 less 2 - I am fairly sure it HASN'T engaged, it doesn't feel any different. Which may mean it's head up again!!

Imawurzelthatlookslikeapumpkin · 30/10/2007 10:17

hi all.
Hows it all going?
I am now 31+1.
Oo-er, it's getting closer.
Baby keeps pushing up and out today. Freaky feeling. But nice.

Amani · 30/10/2007 10:25

Claraq - m/w mentioned that if it hadn't engaged by 36 weeks then I will be referred for a scan and then hospital will take it from there and may consider turning the baby.

Not too worried about it as with my first pregnancy DD didn't turn until 36 weeks anyway, so will see how things are then.

claraq · 30/10/2007 10:31

Amani - I am going to ask for a scan on Thursday whatever. If it is head up I then have to decide whether to try and get the baby turned. Tried this last time and it was bloody painful and didn't work.
Oh decisions decisions.

Amani · 30/10/2007 10:37

Claraq - just out of curiosity, how do they turn a baby?
