Hi all 👋🏻

Here's a new thread so we can keep chatting through the sleepless nights and the many outfits they've already grown out of... 😄

Been a while. How's everyone and their babies getting on?
I've also introduced solids at 5 months. He likes mashed banana mixed with a bit of formula... He also really enjoys Clementines. I didn't know how badly those stain clothes, he has too many ruined vests from eating Clementines. I intend to continue spoon feeding till 6months, then start BLW. I will need several bibado bibs for that.. lol
Talking about broodiness.. I have recently found that I'm pregnant again even though I've been breastfeeding 🥴. Very early days so not getting too excited. I'm just concentrating on the baby I already have here and making the best of our time alone. There will 13months between them if all goes well.

Lilice · 13/02/2021 23:26

Oh wow @Smilymami congratulations!!! What a bombshell 😉 how are you feeling??

Chanel05 · 14/02/2021 09:55

@ShiningStarz @Lilice gah I know, I definitely overreacted, she just turns up all.the.time and it's me who has to deal with her as dh is working upstairs 🥴, so she is the support bubble for me, but my family don't live nearby, so I don't think she'd be the choice if they did!!

@Smilymami oh wow! Congratulation! How are you feeling?

Smilymami · 14/02/2021 17:14

Thank you @Lilice and @Chanel05
I'm starting to feel ill... Nausea has set in but no vomiting yet. I had HG last time, so I'm hoping and praying i escape it this time. Still breastfeeding and I heard this can make sickness worse.. but I'm hanging on. I want to breastfeed till he is one at least and maybe even co-breastfeed.

Smilymami · 14/02/2021 17:16

Or rather, "tandem breastfeeding" like they call it

MooseWL · 14/02/2021 18:16

@smilymami Oh wow congratulations. Fingers crossed you have an easier pregnancy whilst having a baby to look after!

ChipsAreLife · 14/02/2021 20:17

@Smilymami congrats!!! I also fell pregnant whilst breastfeeding but had literally stopped straight after. It'll be manic have two close in age but you reap rewards when they're older.

@Lilice that machine looks fab! I've got a microwave steamer and a blender and plans to batch cook as my boy LOVES the food 😅 he can't get enough of it!!!

Sleep wise he's still cat napping although occasionally does a two hour stint like today, but that's once a week. He's very unsettled for the first two hours after we put him down at night. Then he wakes for a feed every three hours still. I'm still expressing as he hates the formula but tonight I'm going to push my early morning express from 3 to 5 and hope I feel more energetic.

How's everyone feeling? Things seem to be more positive and talk of easing lockdown is really helping me! Just hope we do!

Lilice · 14/02/2021 20:57

Fingers crossed you don't get HG this time @Smilymami. Have you calculated your due date ?

Aww that's great he likes to eat @ChipsAreLife. Has he got a favourite so far? Are you doing purees too? Wow I cant believe you're still expressing, I know how hard it is. How many times do you express? Im just down to two sessions now and one of my boobs is out of order 🙄 it kept getting injured and even bled in my pump once. Ive been saying I'm stopping since December, I cant believe im still doing it but this time I really want to stop for real 🤣 ive still got a drawer full of breastmilk in the freezer so she'll have some until 6 months old anyway.
Napwise today she was back to napping normally again. I've probably just jinxed myself by typing this 🙃

ShiningStarz · 15/02/2021 05:19

Awwwww wow @Smilymami congrats!!!! Iv been thinking about trying for baby no.2! My dp and I are both so happy and feel super blessed with our beautiful daughter but now I have her I would to have a sibling for her!
Can I ask how old you are? Also with work, what are the rules on returning to work and announcing pregnancy?!!
I'm petrified of complications re. Health of a child the older us mums get. I'll be 39 next month xx

kersh33 · 15/02/2021 07:47

@Lilice that sounds exactly what we've been doing. I would just say that Carrot can cause constipation. We also had a big issue with broccoli which bunged DD up for 4 days. She is pooing less often now that we're weaning. She used to poo 2 or 3 times a day. We're now down to a poo every other day.

We're starting meat next weekend.

kersh33 · 15/02/2021 07:58

And congratulation @Smilymami !!!

Lilice · 15/02/2021 08:50

@kersh33 oh I didn't know that about carrots, and we already have constipation issues since I've decreased the amount of breastmilk she gets. What veg did you do after the carrots? Im thinking courgettes, but can't find any organic ones 🤔

ChipsAreLife · 15/02/2021 09:59

We've found sweet potato and banana have blocked ours up! I got one of those Ella kitchens pouches with prunes and it's sorted him out. My god the poo!! It was everywhere when he went!! I know we are meant to do one food at a time for allergies but we've already identified a few of these through breastmilk. So thought a few together wouldn't matter!

@Lilice i think formula is harder to digest so It can block them up a bit. Hopefully she will get used to it soon though. I know I'm crazy for expressing still! But he hates his dairy free formula. I don't blame him it smells horrific. I'm trying to get down to four pumps a day. I'm on five now and get some really good amounts that means he's only needing about 100 ml of formula.

@ShiningStarz I found out I was pregnant three days before I went back to work. You have to work 26 weeks to claim I believe so if you go back as soon as you find out you should be ok .

kersh33 · 15/02/2021 11:21

@Lilice so the vegetables which are recommended to "loosen" things up are green beans, courgettes and spinach. We've done green beans and courgettes without any problems. We haven't tried spinach yet as I'm thinking it might be too wet on its own so I'm waiting until we have introduced potato so I can mix in a little potato.

DD is a funny little thing - she loves pretty much all the vegetables we've given her but so far fruit has not been a success. She screws her little face up every time we offer it. With the banana she shuddered every time she took a mouthful! But she's so sweet and eager to please she still took a few to make mummy and daddy happy!!

kersh33 · 15/02/2021 11:23

@ChipsAreLife the poos are epic!! After she didn't go for 4 days, it felt like she'd pooed her entire body weight! No nappy could hold all that!!' Grin

kersh33 · 15/02/2021 11:26

Oh and for the courgette we were recommended to peel it and remove the seeds as it's harder to digest.

Another thing that seems to work well is the whites of the leek. DD loves that!!

Smilymami · 15/02/2021 13:06

@Lilice Due October 11th. So their birthdays won't be very far apart.
@ShiningStarz I'm thirty. I think if you want to do it, do it now and do not stall. The incidence of those complications do increase with increasing age, so I won't postpone too long. We tried for 8months with DS. We weren't even trying this time but it happened. I've read that women are most fertile just after giving birth.
My maternity leave is just ending and I'm starting work next month, lol.. only to announce another pregnancy and take another maternity leave.. 🤣🤣. They're going to have a lot to say behind my back 😆

ShiningStarz · 15/02/2021 13:35

Ha ha @Smilymami oh your so young! Super congrats!! I don't go back to work until sept, I took a year! I'm 39 so wev to think carefully.. very happy for u. Xx

kersh33 · 15/02/2021 14:03

@ShiningStarz I'm just a bit older than you so definitely know what you mean. I wouldn't worry about maternity leave back to back. It is what it is - and you're entitled to it. It's your life and work will just have to suck it up. It's easier if it's a big organisation though. A small company may struggle more. What do you do?

ShiningStarz · 15/02/2021 20:25

@kersh33 I work for a global organisation so just a number!! I don't really care like you say it is what it is. If we were lucky enough to get pregnant again I would be so happy but I'd also be worried as the risks are so much higher with increasing age!!

Lilice · 15/02/2021 20:25

Thanks for the recommendations @kersh33
Do you remove the courgette seeds before or after steaming? I brought down my babycook from the attic and will start tomorrow eeeeek!
It's great that your little one is enjoying her veg. My son was the opposite, I had to trick him into opening his mouth by offering fruit first 🙈

kersh33 · 15/02/2021 21:03

@Lilice We've tried both. I prefer doing it before as I find it a bit easier. I cut them lengthways and then just scoop the seeds out with a spoon. DH prefers steaming them then scooping out the insides once everything is soft.

The famous Babycook! I think pretty much everyone in France has one!! I just couldn't quite justify the cost when I have a steamer and blender already. But they are super useful!

Margo34 · 15/02/2021 22:40

Congrats @Smilymami! How on earth did you found the time or energy to dtd with a small one around though?! Baby sleeping next to us always puts one or both of us off too 😂 "....but the baby.....i feel like I'm being watched even when she is asleep!" 😂

Fingers crossed for a smooth pregnancy for you.

glasha87 · 16/02/2021 09:27

It’s great to see the thread so active! Huge congratulations @Smilymami!

Hello to everyone who isn’t on the Facebook group - it seems like all your little folk are doing brilliantly ☺️

Is anyone weaning at 5 months (just turned)? My girl definitely seems ready. She’s EBF and I was really hoping to wait until 6 months but there is such desire in her face when she sees us eating 🙈 She’s mad for some food!
She’s physically quite big which could be part of it, 75th centile weight and 99th length.
The last day and a bit she’s been making movements with her mouth as if she were chewing. I’ve considering giving her some formula but it’s dairy free and sure to be rejected. I’m almost certain she wants food!
My baby steamer and blender have not even arrived 😅 Gah!

Chanel05 · 16/02/2021 13:05

@glasha87 what is the facebook group? I never joined
