Hi all 👋🏻

Here's a new thread so we can keep chatting through the sleepless nights and the many outfits they've already grown out of... 😄

I'd recommend the Annabel Karmel book (the white one). I've had mine for 13 years now and am still going back to it!

Also, Ella's Kitchen have got a sign up thing that gets you a booklet/chart and money off vouchers in the post.

We've got the IKEA high chair ready to go in the loft but no footrest?

Hope everyone is okay x

Babylo eatin mess chair looks fab and is £16.99!!! It's on smyths website.
I got the minla maxi cosi, hope it was worth splashing out on lol

Thanks @LatteLover12 will go for the original annabel book. I did get info from ellas in the post, must look where I put it 🙈

Margo34 · 05/02/2021 10:12

I'm intending to do BLW instead of traditional weaning/purees. We've got some time to go but we have already talked about babies first food being either a Sunday lunch roast chicken dinner or pasta Bolognase!

I've got the What Mummy Makes book, it's good. I've also heard that Gill Rapley's Baby Led Weaning is a must have for BLW.

I bought a couple of Bibado coverall bibs pre-Christmas in their half price sale and gave them to baby for Christmas 🤭 Looks like they quite often have sales on though.

With weaning and milk feeds - when do you feed them milk, before or after food?

Margo34 · 05/02/2021 10:18

We had one of the worst nights for sleep last night 😴 baby had her 16w jabs the day before and slept through that night (8hrs) but last night she slept in blocks of 40m, 1hr, 1hr 15m. And each time she woke she was properly awake. Even bed sharing didn't help. She wouldn't settle herself as she has been doing or with my DH and had to touch me constantly. Is this a hang up from the jabs still as it felt like we already started the 4m sleep regression around Christmas when she went from waking 2ce a night to waking every 1.5/2hrs!!

How did you get through the 5m eep regression? That and silent reflux, and a DH who only helps (or parents, should I say) during the glory hours, I'm really flagging 😴

MooseWL · 05/02/2021 12:32

@margo34 I'm with ya. He's always been a terrible sleeper so much that I consider 2 hours a good stretch. Usually I get a 3 hour stretch at the beginning of the night then after that it's hourly wanting to be attached to me. Do you feed laying down when you bedshare? I'm sure that's the only reason I'm still functioning not having to get up and being able to snooze. Other than that knowing that sleep is developmental and it's not anything you're doing wrong has helped me. (obviously it's not helpful for tiredness, but it just helps me mentally)

Margo34 · 05/02/2021 13:45

@MooseWL yes I have do sometimes feed when lying down but I have quite a forceful letdown and baby has silent reflux so feeding lying down buys barely 20m snoozing then she wakes up wailing in discomfort from trapped burps and takes an hour to resettle after. Sometimes it's easier just to get up out of bed and feed her upright then I can wind her straight away and she falls asleep on my shoulder so at least she's rested for the day but means I get no sleep. Its so exhausting!

ShiningStarz · 05/02/2021 14:08

@Margo34 your EBF aren't ya. That's a prob a whole diff kettle of fish.
Wev been bottle feeding since our daughter was 2 months, my supply wasn't enough to fill her. We finds her last bottle around 830pm lasts her now until about 5/6am.
It will prob get better when your little one is on solids maybe? Hugs

Margo34 · 05/02/2021 14:35

Yes EBF but she goes upwards of 2hrs between feeds in the day so why she can't also do that at night I've no idea 🤔 up to December she used to wake only twice at night for a feed!! Tehn it went pear shaped. The she had 16w jabs and I dunno what shape is worse than pear shaped but last night was it 😭

ShiningStarz · 05/02/2021 14:48

@Margo34 sounds like it's the comfort
Of being with mummy :)
Do you have little
One in a sleeping bag? I think our girl sleeps better in the bag as she can't turn around so much and flip about in her snuz pod !!

MooseWL · 05/02/2021 15:43

@lattelover12 I collected the ikea highchair today. Can just make a footrest out of a muslin and some food bag clips if you google ikea footrest hack! So they have somewhere to rest their feet but it also means they can't push up on it and try to escape!

@margo34 ah that's tough. Hopefully it'll improve soon. My LO is def teething too which doesn't help. He needs boob to resettle him everytime, he's definitely not hungry it's a comfort thing!

LatteLover12 · 05/02/2021 17:35

Ooh thanks @MooseWL I'll have a google! 😁

My LO is still up thorough the night about 4 times @Margo34 I'm EBF too but o do think he just likes the comfort/snuggles. DP is currently on the sofa at night 🙄

My friend bought me the young gums book. I really like it so far. I'm going to stick to the plan in there. We are weaning a few weeks shy of 6 months. My house is like a circus and he's not taking milk in the day as so distracted so he's up all night feeding! Little monkey!!!

We've got a silicon bib but as it gets warmer I'll just feed naked. (Baby not me 🤣) Especially at dinner before bathtime!

@Margo34 I feel you. My first barely slept and it's savage. Could be so many different things, how are daytime naps? I find good day sleep breeds good night sleep. But day sleep can be hard work!!!!

I'm so bloody fed up of lockdown now. I'm so desperate to see my family. We've been following the rules but it's affecting my girls development and my and DH mental health. I won't break the rules as I know that's not helpful long term but god I'm over it!!!!!!

Hugs to us all dealing with this crap and little babies x

MooseWL · 06/02/2021 09:21

Accidentally left the babies thick socks on overnight last night and he only woke up twice between 9.30 and 6 omg! Is this what I've been missing?! I mean it's probably coincidence but definitely going to give it another try 😂

@chipsarelife it's so shit isn't it. My in laws see the baby a bit as we're in a bubble with his mum and his dad walks the baby without me as he lives round the corner but my parents haven't seen him in over 6 weeks and he's changing so much and I'm sad they're missing so much time with their first grandchild

ShiningStarz · 06/02/2021 11:56

@MooseWL whoa that's great!! I definitely find little one sleeps best in long sleeve babygrow and 2.5 tog sleeping bag, our bedroom is bout 19 degrees. I bought a 1.5 tog bag recently to use from maybe April time.

Thanks@ChipsAreLife must research that book, definitely placing my Amazon order today!! Must get a standard bib just to do us for early weaning. Think the big ones are great once baby learns use spoon.. I agree with naked eating when warmer!!!

Chanel05 · 06/02/2021 13:50

@Margo34 my dd is ff and has severe reflux. We use carobel and she has omeprazole.

Gaviscon didn't work for her and made her constipated. She now has 1-2ml of lactulose per day to keep bowels soft from the carobel.

Chanel05 · 06/02/2021 13:52

Feel so behind with this thread! Currently dd wakes every hour from 12am onwards and hates napping! She's almost out of her Moses now and we've ordered a monitor and travel blackout curtain, so going to start bedroom naps in her big cot when it arrives.

Anyone else currently massively broody and missing their bump?!

ShiningStarz · 06/02/2021 20:22

Haha @Chanel05 I did approach the subject of ttc no.2 with Dp!!! He's mostly no but isn't ruling it out!! I'm 40 next year so not sure what to do!!

Lilice · 07/02/2021 11:31

Hi everyone, it's been ages since I posted here. Hope everyone is doing well.
@ChipsAreLife I feel your pain with the lockdown and especially the homeschooling! I cant wait for the kids to go back, im gutted im missing all that time I should have spent exclusively with Eva. It's exhausting having to be a teacher, cleaner, entertainer, cook, referee etc it's OK for a short while but this is getting too long now. Im calling a snow day tomorrow 🙃
And so sad apart from my mum, no one has met my baby girl. I havent see my family in over a year now, same for my husband. Eva will be a teenager when she finally meets them 😔
@LatteLover12 I also have the annabel book. I will do purées but will skip baby rice and start with spoonfuls of carrot purée, then do courgette etc. Im thinking of starting when she's 5 months old and go very slowly, like a week of just a spoonful at lunch and increase slowly. @kersh33 im french so will probably be doing something similar to you. I like how paediatricians in France monitor and advice the process. I've got booklets I brought back from France and kind of follow the method.
@Chanel05 same here. I was certain Eva was my last baby, but my husband was talking about the 4th one just after she was born and I called him crazy. But now it's like he's planted the seed in my mind and I have to confess I've been storing the newborn and up to 3 months clothes in the attic instead of getting rid of them like I said I would. But I still have baby weight to lose so I said we'll discuss it once im back to my pre pregnancy weight. I must be crazy to even consider it. Are you planning a short gap between your babies? @ShiningStarz 40 is still very young!!
@Margo34 you can use carobel with an EBF baby (sorry if you already know that). You mix the paste and give it before the feed or when you switch breast, cant remember exactly. But I admit it doesn't sound easy. I stopped direct nursing a while ago and been feeding expressed milk which I thicken with carobel because my baby also has silent reflux. It's made a big difference. She started sleeping through the night when I made the switch, i also put her on a sort of routine, nothing strict but the fact that she's always fed every 4 hours made it easy. I hope you find something that work for you.

Lilice · 07/02/2021 11:35

That's brilliant about the socks @MooseWL! I do think Eva sleeps well when she's all warm. I like to use velour pyjamas when it's colder, and she wears a 2.5 tog sleeping bag . I hope the socks trick will work for you 🤞

kersh33 · 07/02/2021 12:19

Week 3 of weaning and DD turned 5 months last week.

So far we have done as purées: carrots (which gave her constipation so we are being careful before doing them again), green beans, leeks, broccoli, sweet potato and butternut squash. The hits so far have been leeks and butternut squash. We are gradually increasing quantities and she is eating around 80g once a day. Have just introduced apple purée yesterday (which wasn't very successful) and then pear purée this afternoon. For the fruit we are doing a spoonful or 2 for now and then see how we go.

DD has generally got the hang of eating off the spoon though occasionally spits it all out. It's mostly trying to keep her hands off the spoon, out of the bowl and out of her mouth which is the challenge so it does occasionally get a bit messy!

ShiningStarz · 07/02/2021 15:59

@kersh33 aww that sounds great! Must be fun!!
I can't wait to start. I'm doing a first aid course on 27th Feb online so I plan to start that weekend, little one will be 5months and 3 weeks old.

@Lilice how old are you?
I feel 40 is old!!! Aghhhh @Roxy8203 I remember us being similar age, have you thought about another baby? I was a definite no but I worry about my girl being on her own when we are old and having a sibling would be great for her. It would be bloody expensive tho with childcare fees!

Lilice · 07/02/2021 18:45

@ShiningStarz im 37, turning 38 in a few weeks. I lot of my friends had babies in their 40s. I dont think it's old. If I have one more, I'll probably be 40 as well because I want to go to Thailand next year for my 10th wedding anniversary (if stupid covid permits) so I'll have to wait after that trip.

ShiningStarz · 07/02/2021 20:08

@Lilice your a year older than me :)
I'm going back to work in august so I can't imagine telling my manager I'm pregnant again !!!! Eeeeek!!! My partner and I have talked about it but I'm not sure, I always thought I'd be happy with one x

ShiningStarz · 07/02/2021 20:08

Anyone else just happy with the 1?

MooseWL · 08/02/2021 14:44

@lilice the socks worked for 2 nights then back to his usual tricks 🤣

@chanel05 I miss my bump a lot but definitely don't want another one yet.

@shiningstarz I used to think I wanted 3 but after having 1 I think I only want one more 😂 I'm definitely having selective memories of the birth though cos I keep saying ohhh what a great day it wasn't too bad really and my partner looks at me like I've gone mad haha
