Hi all 👋🏻

Here's a new thread so we can keep chatting through the sleepless nights and the many outfits they've already grown out of... 😄

@Roxy8203 how do I get the free blade and rose leggings ? I just went on their website and there's no mention of them x

kersh33 · 02/02/2021 06:59

@Margo34 DD has/had silent reflux. We were prescribed Gaviscon and it actually worked really well. We didn't have any problems with constipation so it might be worth giving it a go and seeing how you get on.

She seems a lot better now and doesn't have Gaviscon at the childminders and seems OK so I think we're over the worst of it.

ShiningStarz · 02/02/2021 08:30

Our little princess used to have bath, bottle and sleep soundly until midnight for feed and was ok then until about 5-7am. This was great!
Now she feeds the same but sleep is between us in the bed. I have a gap between our pillows and her head touching headboard and she's fine but I want her back in the next to me! Even naps during day we are still having to fold her!! Anyone got any tips?! Iv tried crying method to sleep and it's hard going and I think she's maybe too little to understand!!

Margo34 · 02/02/2021 09:47

@kersh33 thanks that's good to hear constipation didn't affect your LO on Gaviscon. I'm going to give it a go but probably start cutting out dairy from my diet within a week if the gaviscon doesn't take effect or gives her constipation.

How long did it take for you to notice an impact from the gaviscon?

OrDis · 02/02/2021 10:09

@ShiningStarz pop this code in at checkout- its for either the chameleon ones or the owl ones. You still pay postage

OrDis · 02/02/2021 10:10

Sorry here is code: OYJCFL9ZX

ShiningStarz · 02/02/2021 10:25

Thanks @OrDis I might order the owl top to match :)

MooseWL · 02/02/2021 10:44

@shiningstarz no tips as last night Jacob went in the next to me for a whole hour - he's not slept in there at all since he was about a month old so an hour was nice 🤣 he's usually sleeps in our bed attached to my nipple 😂

Had him weighed this morning though and he's gone up almost a whole centile line and I'm so happy it makes the continuous feeding almost worth it as I hated him being skinny and constantly stressing about weight gain.

Thanks @roxy8203 I got the chameleon ones too in 1-2 and they're lovely!

I think we're going to get the ikea highchair and order a footrest for it. I'm excited to wean! We also got the bt 6000 monitor but can't review as we've had no chance to use it yet 🤣

ShiningStarz · 02/02/2021 10:50

@MooseWL oh dear!! Sounds like little one is happy being next to you and that's essential for EBF! Well done on that by the way!! Must be a great feeling.
We are researching monitors and hopefully get one ordered this week. I'm going with the maxi cosi minla! Must get the weaning bowl and bib soon too!! Can't believe it's only 6 weeks away for us !!

Roxy8203 · 02/02/2021 18:06

www.rinkit.com/search?q=Baby%20bowl

If you like the bamboo baby bowls I found this site and it was the cheapest I've seen

kersh33 · 02/02/2021 21:34

@Margo34 Thé Gaviscon worked pretty quickly - within a couple of days the arcing and writhing really reduced as did the grunting in her sleep. I also wondered about a lactose intolerance but as the Gaviscon did the trick I never took it further.

ShiningStarz · 02/02/2021 21:47

Is everyone waiting until 6 months to start weaning??
I'd say we'll be near that as little one head control isn't perfect yet!

ShiningStarz · 02/02/2021 22:33

I think I'm overthinking the weaning and stressing myself out!
I haven't bought any books but Iv done lots of googling.. here's what I'm planning, would love feedback from those that have done this before!!

First 2 weeks - 1 meal @lunch - introduce 1 different veg each day (Im doing combined purée & baby led) - leave sweet root veg to the end of 2nd week.

By week 3 - 2 meals @lunch and @breakfast (fruit & weetabix or porridge).

By week 4 - allergen testing with eggs, meats, fish and dairy.

Hoping that by week 5 we are on 3 meals a day 🤞 I think I read on nhs website that babies should be on 3 meals a day by 9 months.

This is all based on little one actually eating and not throwing food on the floor hahaha 😂

ShiningStarz · 02/02/2021 22:38

I just read by 6 months iron stores are depleted so it's actually important to add in meat/fish early on!! I may start weaning just before 6 months if little one is sitting up well🤞I hadn't planned on adding in fish / meat that quickly!!

Sara7455 · 03/02/2021 07:53

I think that’s broadly a good plan but would probably go with “when ready” rather than a by week x just in case she doesn’t take to it really easily as you don’t want to put extra pressure on yourself to hit goals. We’re moving slower anyway because of W being prem. I think it was about week 4 when I added breakfast after 2 weeks single veg and then another 2 of mixed veg. Although it turns out he loves breakfast so I have more luck with that than lunch still. I started allergens one new one a week from about week 4 and we’re at week 9 now still on 2 meals a day and introducing meat this week with only peanuts left to go on the allergen front. There are plenty of non meat iron sources and it’s added to cereals etc so don’t feel too much pressure to start it really early. Purée meat sounded awful so I wanted to wait until W was better with texture before adding meat. He’s had mince so far and was fine but didn’t want a lot.

I really stressed about it before I started but as with all things baby I think try not to put too much pressure on it. One of the baby group leaders laughed at me stressing and said everyone does with baby 1 and then baby 2 will be sat in the buggy eating shop bought purée straight from the pouch and they’ll both turn out fine.

MooseWL · 03/02/2021 08:47

@shiningstarz we don't eat meat/fish in the house. I plan to give the baby a bit because I want him to get used to the texture but not loads, but beans/pulses/chickpeas/dark greens are other good vege sources of iron if you didn't want to introduce meat straight away ☺️ I'll def be waiting until around 6 months. He definitely is no where near sitting yet although his head control is really good (only just turned 4 months)
@sara7455 pureed meat omg 🤢🤢
Don't stress too much about it. Remember before our babies were born and we had so many questions (I think I asked how I'd know when to change a nappy 😅), but now it seems obvious. I imagine weaning will be much the same once they start!

Jacob did his first roll yesterday! I put him on his front and next thing he's on his back. He looked like he had no idea how it had happened and then refused to do it again 🤣

ShiningStarz · 03/02/2021 09:01

Thank you so much @Sara7455 sounds like your getting on great with wren. I might take my time with the mixed veggies then and maybe try breakfast after a few weeks. I'm guessing breakfast sweetness will be a bit compared to the bitter veg!!

@MooseWL thank you so much too. I was pescatarian up until after I had her, Iv only had chicken a handful of times and not really fussed! I love fish so will be introducing her to salmon, white fish etc but yes lots of chickpeas and other beans and pulses xox

Sara7455 · 03/02/2021 09:10

@MooseWL well done Jacob on the rolling! I’m sure he’ll remember soon how he did it, hopefully with an audience next time!

@ShiningStarz I think we’re getting there. Definitely have meals where he’ll empty the bowl and others where we’ll manage 2 spoons and he’ll decide he’s done - even if it’s the same meal twice! These babies can be unpredictable and strong minded! 100% don’t put too much pressure on it!

kersh33 · 03/02/2021 11:47

We're on week 2 of weaning and are are still on single vegetable purées at dinner as we can't do lunch as she's at the childminders.

It's been going pretty well - we started with 30g and are starting to gradually increase the quantities. The last 2 days she's only eaten about half her green beans though. We're not fussing over it though - she eats what she wants and when she's done she's done. As long as she breastfeeds well after I'm happy.

We'll be starting on fruit purées this weekend. And she'll have these for afternoon tea. We'll give the childminder some jars for her to continue during the week. Again the paediatrician has recommended introducing a new fruit every 2 days. We'll start with the easy fruit like apple, banana and pear and then move on more tricky fruit with regards to allergies like mango or red berries a bit later.

ShiningStarz · 03/02/2021 12:36

Did you guys buy a bib for weaning? Was thinking about the coat style one to try and keep her clean!!
I just ordered the maxi cosi minla. Expensive but hopefully
Worth it !!!!

Sara7455 · 03/02/2021 13:13

@ShiningStarz my SIL recommends just feeding them naked tbh, especially if there’s a baby led element. We’re weaning in a special seat from the hospital so having to use the close stage 2 ones as they at least have a bib catcher as no tray for the big coverall ones to attach to. I’ve found that he gets his legs absolutely covered despite the bib because he’ll get food on his hands and then rest them on his legs 🙈. The more coverage the better with bibs - or just go naked, sponge them down and put their clean clothes back on

kersh33 · 03/02/2021 13:14

We've just used the classic bib for now as DD eats in the evening so we change her straight afterwards. She does tend to get food on her cuffs as she tries to "help" with the spoon so I am thinking of getting the ones with sleeves for when she eats during the day.

ShiningStarz · 04/02/2021 13:25

Anyone recommend weaning books?

I have ellas first foods (purple one) and 'what mummy makes' in my Amazon basket!!!

The other 2 I'm Not sure about are joe wicks wean in 15 & Annabel karmel baby and toddler meal planner book / weaning book

ShiningStarz · 04/02/2021 18:01

Anyone tries baby yoghurts - I see Asda to glenisk baby yoghurt, 4g carbs per 100g, seems ok compared to petit filous etc which seem to have up to 10g!

Sara7455 · 04/02/2021 20:33

@ShiningStarz I just get a pot of natural or Greek yoghurt and stir through a fruit purée I’ve made myself. You know exactly what’s in it then I figure.

Cookbooks wise - I’ve heard really good things about what mummy makes but don’t yet have it and I have all three of the others and like and use them all. To start with i definitely used Ella’s kitchen the most - it’s the easiest and best for purées and slow build for textures I’ve found. Now we’re doing better with textures I do pick and choose from all three but I don’t do much of the cooking usually so I like having the crutch of recipes to lean on for him
