Hi all 👋🏻

Here's a new thread so we can keep chatting through the sleepless nights and the many outfits they've already grown out of... 😄

Thanks everyone for your replies.
@Margo34 i hope you are ok. Would it be worth contacting your health visitor for advice.
A mum I know from a group cry all I found her baby was tongue tied 10 weeks after EBF! Maybe worth getting that checked? Do you feel when she's on the boob she instantly stops crying? Or does it seem like she's sucking and getting nothing? Maybe try a few formula feeds?
Definitely see a health professional to get her checked over xx

ChipsAreLife · 15/12/2020 05:48

Hi everyone! Sorry been AWOL been so manic!
I will reply properly later but @Margo34 huge huge hugs. My first was the same. She had CPMA and reflux. Is your health visitor decent? If so start there. If not speak to a GP. Babies shouldn't cry all day, there will be something that helps.

In the meantime you're allowed to form a bubble with another household if you have a child under one. Regardless of how many people in each household so get a friend or family member in a bubble and have a break. My DH was /is useless at the baby stage. He just doesn't have that primitive material instinct and he finds it relentless and stressful. But he's the most amazing father to the girls now. So try not to worry too much.

Sending you a hug. It's tough.

All good here but I've been unwell and work is bonkers. Trying to get everything done this week and finish up for Xmas on Tuesday. So ridiculous meant to be on maternity leave! Bloody Covid.

X

ShiningStarz · 17/12/2020 13:28

@Margo34 how are things ?

Margo34 · 17/12/2020 21:47

Thanks all for your messages and reassurance. I had a very blunt, frank and uncomfortable conversation with DH and I think it must have resonated / sunk in how close to breaking I'd got as he has slowly started to be more supportive and take baby in short bursts to give me a break (...a break to hang the washing is still a break, right?) We've started small. We went to run errands together and he took her to one shop while I went to another before we reconvened outside.

DH went to his office today (first time since March) and without him WFH slamming doors and walking around the house like an elephant disturbing the peace, baby and I had a successful and settled day so much more so than usual, and far less crying!!! - there was no resisting of naps, no forever to settle for a nap, and they were even naps in the bassinet (usually only contact naps) so I actually had some time across the day to sit, read a book and drink a hot cup of tea to myself. It has helped so much. I wonder if I'm on subconsciously edge when DH is home and worried about being judged? I don't thi k I am but...do babies pick up on subconscious things like that?!
On the reflux, sometimes it seems to bother baby, sometimes it doesn't. I'm still waiting to hear back from our health visitor about it but I've started keeping a note of when and how often it happens in the meantime.

OrDis · 18/12/2020 14:13

Thats great that you’ve had a talk with DH and that you had a better day yesterday! It’s amazing how much just one good day can lift the spirits and provide a bit of a break and a bit of confidence.

Lorna198 · 18/12/2020 18:34

So glad you’ve had a little breakthrough @Margo34! Must be a husband thing being loud all the time, I’d never realised how clumsy mine was till he woke the boy constantly dropping or kicking things 😂

ShiningStarz · 18/12/2020 19:23

That's great @Margo34 so pleased you had the courage to chat to your DH. Can't have been easy. Iv had to say to my DP about flushing loo : closing doors etc because any little abrupt noise tends to wake her. It makes all the difference!
Our health visitor was out today, she's recommended aptamil comfort range of formula to help with digestion of milk. It's supppsed to help, also is thicker so results in less air being sucked in. Xx

Chanel05 · 18/12/2020 21:10

Bottle feeding ladies - can you tell me how many oz on average your baby drinks in a day?

Lorna198 · 18/12/2020 22:05

@Chanel05 5 times a day. Mostly 8 oz now every time. He’s 16 weeks.

Georgiana92 · 18/12/2020 23:16

39weeks pregnant false contractions

Lilice · 19/12/2020 10:04

@Margo34 great to hear you had a good day! They say babies are like sponges and can sense everything.... hence happy mummy happy baby. My husband is quite loud too and doesn't know how to close a door. My son walks like an elephant. This is going to be a long half term break again lol, I really enjoy having the house just to myself and my baby.
@Chanel05 Eva gets approximately 5 x 150 ml plus a breastfeed. Some days she drinks it all, some days she wastes a lot ( and that's mainly expressed breastmilk which is really annoying). She's 12 weeks but no idea of her weight

kersh33 · 19/12/2020 17:48
@Chanel05 5 times a day. Mostly 8 oz now every time. He’s 16 weeks.
Wow - that seems like loads compared to DD. She's mostly breastfed but I'm introducing one expressed feed a day as she's going into childcare in January (😢) and I'm lucky to get 120ml down her.

How much does your DC weigh? Worried I might be starving her now!!!

Lorna198 · 19/12/2020 18:51

@kersh33 ha he’s a greedy boy! Has more than all the ‘what babies should eat’ charts.
He weighs around 14/15 pounds now. He was only 4lb 14oz at birth so I believe he’s playing catch up.

You won’t be starving her. I’m sure she lets you know when she’s hungry 😂

ShiningStarz · 19/12/2020 19:45

@Chanel05 I'm
Not sure about oz but our little girl has just increased to 150ml per feed, averages 120ml and still feeds every 2 hrs. During night she wakes just once and sometimes twice but rarely now. She's 14 weeks and 14lbs !!

Margo34 · 20/12/2020 23:09

Make sure you check your babies' toes!!! We ended up in A&E this morning stupid o'clock after baby was so unsettled overnight and nothing would settle her, I stripped her clothes off saying 'something must be up what is it!!' very frustratedly and discovered she had very fine hair strand like a tight belt on her toe cutting off circulation! Almost ended up requiring surgery! Baby OK now though.
Always check the toes!!!

Roxy8203 · 21/12/2020 11:00

@Margo34 I hope she is ok. I've seen a few post about this happening so check his fingers and toes all the time. Someone said hair removal cream will work to get it off

Lilice · 21/12/2020 12:14

Oh so glad she's ok @Margo34 I've heard about it but have to admit i never check but will definitely from now on. Poor you, must have been a scary experience, hope you're all OK now

Margo34 · 21/12/2020 17:58

Yeah I'd heard about it too and always check her toes are clear when I dress her, but there was hair on the inside foot of her babygrow that got caught around her toe so now I check inside the feet as well! She still has a red welt mark, poor baby. She's OK though.

Roxy8203 · 21/12/2020 20:50

Glad she is ok. It's scary how easily these things happen. Well done for stripping her off to figure it out, not sure I'd have thought about that

MooseWL · 22/12/2020 20:49

Oh bless her glad she's okay. My partner mentioned this the other day when J was holding one of my hairs and I didn't really believe him!
My hair has started falling out all over the place again. I've always had really thick hair that malts everywhere but it totally stopped falling out in pregnancy. I've heard of post partum hair loss but hoping cos it's so thick anyway it will be fine!

Margo34 · 22/12/2020 22:04

@MooseWL yep it's a thing. It's 'hair tourniquet' and according to the docs at my local AnE they see it at least 3 times a week with either hair strands or loose threads! My hair malts everywhere too, I wish it had stopped during pregnancy though!

Roxy8203 · 23/12/2020 02:46

I've just started started losing my pregnancy hair so it's everywhere, having to be extra vigilant checking his hands.
I did hear it's very common, the midwives ought to tell us about it when they are born

ShiningStarz · 23/12/2020 23:35

Oh my gosh glad your little one is ok @Margo34 our little girl has started pulling my hair (quite long) and I notice it gets round her fingers and she pulls so hard. Will prob have to start wearing it up xo

ShiningStarz · 23/12/2020 23:36

Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas with their little precious babies.
Can't quite believe I get to start traditions with my own bundle of joy. Very excited and happy even though we are going through the most strangest times. Stay safe everyone and enjoy 🎅 🎄 xoxo

Lorna198 · 24/12/2020 08:48

Merry Christmas ladies! Hope it’s as special as it can be 💙🎅🏻❤️
