Hi all 👋🏻

Here's a new thread so we can keep chatting through the sleepless nights and the many outfits they've already grown out of... 😄

Have a wonderful Christmas all. Glad Jacob is too young to realise we didn't get him anything! He's got plenty from friends and family though!

Lilice · 24/12/2020 17:22

Merry Christmas ladies and bubbas x 🥳🧑‍🎄🍾🥂

LatteLover12 · 29/12/2020 08:29

Hello everyone, can't believe I've been AWOL from here for so long!

I hope you all had a fab Christmas with your little ones. It was a very quiet one here but felt really relaxed without loads of people to cook for & no where to go. I managed to stay in my pyjamas all day!

DS is still growing fast; he's in 6-9m clothes now at 15 weeks. There's more clothes in the loft that he's grown out of than he has to actually wear 🤦‍♀️

It's been good having DP home from work for a few days & we're getting into a little nap and bedtime routine with moderate success. It's all gone to pot over Christmas though so I'll be back on it when/if the older ones go back to school.

We're off to a local national trust place today - DP has to wear the wrap sling these days as DS is just too heavy for me!

Hope you all have lovely days ahead. Bring on 2021!

@lattelover12 glad you had a good Christmas, it's so nice when your partner is home isn't it, the day is so much less daunting!
I was alarmed that Jacob is now in 3-6 month clothes but then realised he's actually 3 months 😂 I've got a couple of friends having babies in a few months so I'm keeping my very favourite clothes but giving them the rest!
Still no bedtime routine here, but he's actually going down earlier and daytime naps are pretty easy in the sling atm (though he's starting to hurt my back and he's only 9th centile so don't know how I'm going to manage when he's bigger!) I'm also rocking a thumb splint due to RSI from repeatedly picking him up, however the splint makes it really difficult to do essential things... Such as pick him up 🤔🤣

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas even if it must feel a little strange this year.

We spent Christmas at the in-laws as there was no lockdown here but kept socially distanced with masks on when not eating and ate at a different table. But we finally allowed PILs to hold DD as she is going to a childminder in January so will be much higher risk and wanted to give them a chance while she is still small!

Then we did a Boxing Day zoom call with all my family where DD opened her presents which was really lovely!

How are you all doing milestones wise? DD is pretty good at holding her head up now without us having to support it all the time. However she still does not love tummy time so we struggle to do more than 15 minutes a day compared to the half hour she should be able to do. And we are no where near rolling yet. But I'm sure we'll get there eventually.

Sleep is OK. We struggle to get more than 45 minutes of naps and often it's just 30 minutes, but we've just learnt to accept that'a what she's like. So we put her down when we think she's sleepy or (most of the time) when she falls asleep after a feed, but don't push it if she doesn't want to sleep.

She sleeps OK at night - we're down to 2 wake ups which is manageable. I probably get 5-6 hours sleep a night which is surviveable. Not looking forward to starting work again next week though - my brain still feels quite mushy!! Confused

MooseWL · 30/12/2020 10:45

@kersh33 we do a lot of tummy time on our legs /chest which he seems to prefer but will tolerate the floor now! He's also rolled onto his side a couple of times and I thought he'd be rolling soon but he seems to have lost interest now! I'm not stressing about milestones though they all do things differently when they're ready!
Still on about a million wake ups a night but I think my body has got used to limited sleep!

Oh wow back to work already, how are you feeling about going back?

ShiningStarz · 30/12/2020 14:50

Hey@kersh33 our little girl hates tummy time! However when she's lying flat she tries to sit up so we encourage that to strengthen those neck muscles! I'm sure you aren't looking forward to going back to work. I'll be broke but I took the year. Our girl sleeps from 8pm-9am, she wakes around midnight, 5am for feeds so we are now almost always getting 4-5hr sleep stretches at night. Starting to research weaning!! Haven't bought a cotbef yet either as the next to me is fine for prob until Feb x
Hope everyone doing well.

ShiningStarz · 30/12/2020 15:31

Is anyone else's box room nursery freezing?
Our little girl is in our room which is around 5 degrees warmer than her nursery (2 outdoor walls). We live in a semi-d.
Iv enquired about cavity wal and roof insulation but interested to hear anyone else's thoughts

kersh33 · 30/12/2020 17:25

@ShiningStarz @MooseWL I'm not in the UK and mat leave here is only 16 weeks with a minimum of 3 weeks before the birth. I stretched out another month using up leave but it's pretty usual here for a lot of women to go back at 3 months.

I'm finding it pretty hard to be honest. We've found a childminder (nurseries around here are impossible to get into due to lack of places) and she seems pretty good but she has 3 other babies she looks after too so DD won't have the full on attention she's been getting from DH and I which makes me a bit sad. But it has to be done, so I'm trying not to think about it too much.

Going back to work will be weird. I've always worked from home so in that respect not much will change and I usually travel a fair bit and of course that won't be happening for the foreseeable which is actually a blessing. But it's going to be strange just going back to "normal life" especially as because of the various restrictions and lockdowns it's been pretty much a little bubble with me, DH and DD for the last 4 months.

kersh33 · 30/12/2020 17:28

@ShiningStarz wow - already trying to sit up?! That's amazing! It's just so incredible seeing them evolve and do new things. DD had her first proper full on laugh with DH yesterday which was lovely.

MooseWL · 30/12/2020 19:13

@kersh33 I'm sure it'll be hard at first but once you get into a routine with it you'll make it work.
We've had a few chuckles too it's lovely!
@shiningstarz what temperature is it? Our room dropped to 16 degrees last night as its been super cold here (I have the thermostat set to 16 overnight so the heat comes on for a bit if it goes lower.)Jacob is in a merino wool sleeping bag though which regulates their temperature and it didn't seem to bother him.

ShiningStarz · 30/12/2020 19:54

@MooseWL whoa that's chilly!! I couldn't cope at 16 lol
She's in babygrow and 2.5 tog sleeping bag. The main bedroom, our room is great, while she's in with us it's around 17.5 all night and I turn it up to 18.5 from 4am ish so it's lovely and we all sleep great.
Her nursery on the other hand which we use for drying clothes at the mo and nappy station is in there feels freezing, would be much lower than our bedroom. Wev decided the cot will go into the other double spare bedroom and hopefully once she's bit older she can sleep in her own room xx

MooseWL · 30/12/2020 21:00

@shiningstarz I'm from Yorkshire originally where the general rule is if you're cold put another jumper on 😂 I can't stand being too warm at night I like the room around 18 and I've never slept in pyjamas. I was worried about the baby getting cold in our house but he doesn't seem overly sensitive to the cold!

kersh33 · 01/01/2021 11:39

Happy New Year everyone. I hope you all managed to have something of a celebration. 2020 will have been a very difficult year, but it also brought us a very special gift. ❤️

LatteLover12 · 02/01/2021 05:24

@ShiningStarz yes! He was waking up with freezing cold hands so we've bought a little plug in heater to take the chill off the room. It's working so far.

We're at the point now where he goes down in his room at about 6.45 and sleeps until 11/12 when I go up to bed and feed him then he stays in bed with me. He's in a 2.5tog sleeping bag too.

It's just me that gets cold now sitting up to breastfeed! My shoulders are practically blue! 😂 🥶

Good on you @LatteLover12 for still BF, I am in awe.
Anyone else's baby getting too little for baby bath and moved to normal bathing??

ShiningStarz · 02/01/2021 10:38

Has anyone bought the bath bath seat? To proofread from baby bath to big bath? Think my back would be done in making sure she doesn't slip in the big bath, any tips welcome x

Roxy8203 · 02/01/2021 12:38

@ShiningStarz we have only ever had the seat in our bath and it's fine. A bit awkward to wash his back but doable. It's a shame it sits so high though as you do use a lot of water

ShiningStarz · 02/01/2021 12:58

@Roxy8203 thanks, I was thinking the same when I saw photos of it, I'd be worried about her getting cold quicker cause the seat is so high up. 🤔

Roxy8203 · 02/01/2021 13:04

@ShiningStarz we put a flannel on his chests which keeps him warmer I think. Also we fill above the line

Lorna198 · 03/01/2021 20:00

Please someone tell me the hair loss stops soon? He’s 19 weeks tomorrow and washing my hair is just so depressing 😩

OrDis · 03/01/2021 21:20

@Lorna198 same!! You could sell wigs from the amount of hair im loosing! Its a wonder I have any left!!

ShiningStarz · 05/01/2021 12:14

@Lorna198 omg I just noticed a big bald patch yesterday 🥲 is all their hair meant to go???
Little one is 17 weeks on thurs :)

Lorna198 · 06/01/2021 19:23

@ShiningStarz they rub it all off in first 6 months. It comes back lol.
I was talking about mine tho, we could both be bald soon 😂

In other news it was belated 16 week jabs yesterday. His nappies are very messy today. Hoping he’s back to normal tomorrow !

ShiningStarz · 06/01/2021 20:17

Awww @Lorna198 we had jabs today and little one was really out of sienna era. She needed the calpol today. Last two vaccinations she was fine but this time it's really unsettled her. Xo
