Hi all 👋🏻

Here's a new thread so we can keep chatting through the sleepless nights and the many outfits they've already grown out of... 😄

@WillowT how many weeks is your little one?
Ours is 6 on Thursday. Weirdly she will sleep in her next to me! Only since 4 weeks tho and think she's learnt it's dark so means sleep!! During day tho she'll barely settle in Moses basket! To her day must mean I can be held!!! Last night she settled in her rocker, previously that was a no go.
Also in her next to me, sometimes she'll be stirring but I find if I face her very close and keep my eyes closed, she eventually nods odd. I don't touch her, trying to teach self sleep as we are attempting no dummy. It does get easier x

ShiningStarz · 19/10/2020 08:49

Does anyone have their LO in sleeping bags yet?
I have a 2.5 tog one.
However our bedroom is between 19-20 degrees at the minute.
She wriggles now so moves the blanket!

Also any advice on any monitor? Any tried and tested decent ones that don't need mounted as would like something portable

WillowT · 19/10/2020 08:58

@ShiningStarz She's 3.5 weeks so still tiny.

Funnily enough as soon as I decided to get up and dressed, opened the curtains she's decided she wants to sleep in her next to me 🙄 Honestly, I think she does it deliberately 🤣🤣

WillowT · 19/10/2020 09:01

@ShiningStarz we tried a sleeping bag last night in the hope it might help. Our room is constantly at 21 degrees so we had her in a 1.5 tog and a long sleeved vest.

We haven't tried a monitor yet but we just have a simple one from BT as our house isn't very big but I didn't want one with a video as I think I would obsess and can just as easily keep popping upstairs

Sara7455 · 19/10/2020 09:11

@ShiningStarz how big is she now? Think they have to weigh 4kg before you can put them in the sleeping bag. W was 3.81 at last weigh in but I’ll use them as soon as he’s confirmed big enough. He’s a nightmare for kicking his blankets off with squirming and it’s about 19 in our room at night too. I cover his hands with the mittens on the sleepsuit at night for now to at least stop his hands getting cold!

CookieBlue · 19/10/2020 09:42

My little one seems to sleep in the Snuzpod at night but during the day has now decided she will not be put down. The second I try to put her down anywhere her eyes snap open Grin, then I can’t get her back to sleep, then the overtiredness kicks in... I’ve given in now and have started holding her for all her day naps. It’s a pain I know but won’t last forever I’m sure!

I don’t want to speak too soon but we’ve had a few longer stretches at night the last two days. Before that I was pulling my hair out with the tiredness. Baby will be 5 weeks on Wednesday and I’m praying she keeps it up! It makes such a difference to get at least one good chunk of sleep.

I’m also wondering whether to start trying a sleeping bag! We have two and they’re both 2.5 tog. Our room is around 20 degrees which I think means she should only be in a long sleeve vest but that doesn’t seem much?! Also would then have to make sure I change her clothes before putting her to bed every night and at the minute I’m just trying to put her down whenever she falls asleep so that could be a pain x

ShiningStarz · 19/10/2020 13:55

@WillowT you'll see a big difference within the next week. Haha they have us wrapped around their tiny fingers!!!! I only have 1 sleeping bag and it's a 2.5 tog. I think I might try her in it with a long sleeve vest. @Sara7455 we have our review appt tomo so she gets weighed, I will
Wait until then, I'd say she's about 10lbs, she's still in up to 1 months sleepsuits.

@CookieBlue I had her in the rocker this morning and she settled!! I put her in kitchen with me and I made an entire breakfast!!! Not just toast buttered with 1 hand 😂😂 it's amazing what a couple weeks does x

Lazydaisydaydream · 19/10/2020 15:01

@WillowT how is she sleeping on you at the moment but not cosleeping? Honestly safe cosleeping will be much safer and easier than anything else, it's the only way I get sleep!

Lazydaisydaydream · 19/10/2020 15:07

Sorry not sure my first sentence makes sense haha. I mean, are you staying awake to hold her? If so you must be absolutely exhausted! Flowers this bit is hard but honestly it does pass and I promise you will get some sleep. I remember googling "how long before you die of sleep exhaustion" when I had my eldest because I was so tired 🙈

Sara7455 · 19/10/2020 15:11

@ShiningStarz that’s good timing for your review appointment! Hopefully you’re right and you’ll be able to start using the bags. They sound so much easier!

MooseWL · 19/10/2020 15:36

@shiningstarz @sara7455 I've only got 2.5 tog too and our room is about 20 degrees. At the moment he's just in a short sleeve vest, sleepsuit and a blanket (which he also kicks off!) but he doesn't seem cold!

@shiningstarz J got weighed this morning and was 8.1 now (almost back at his birth weight) but I've had to put him in 0-3 Sleepsuits already as his legs are now too long for up to 1 month!!

ShiningStarz · 19/10/2020 17:18

@MooseWL I think our little one is the same! Up to 1 month is very snug!! I feel sad about packing away her NB!! Haven't done it yet!!

Roxy8203 · 19/10/2020 19:12

@flameprincess we've been using cloth since he was born. We hired a new born kit from the nappy library which are close pop-in's and I brought a set of alvas.
The close are a two part so we can take out the booster and reuse the wrap if it's dry but the avlas are pockets so can only be used once.

ShiningStarz · 19/10/2020 20:14

For anyone looking for long sleeve bodysuit with mitts for under sleeping bag, I just bought 4 of these, 2 x 0-3 and 2 x 3-6 months (25% off when you buy 4), more than I wanted to pay but couldn't find an alternative.

I really wanted something with mitts and it would be too warm for her in a sleep suit.

ShiningStarz · 19/10/2020 20:19

Forgot to say they are Mori

Sara7455 · 19/10/2020 21:02

@ShiningStarz oo let me know what they’re like when they arrive? I’ve looked at Mori a few times but then been put off by the price. Would be good to know if they’re worth it quality-wise.

ShiningStarz · 19/10/2020 21:11

I will do @Sara7455 . Really was more than I wanted to spend. Also buying 1 would be useless so had to bite the bullet!! The reviews are all great so fingers crossed.

flameprincess · 19/10/2020 21:35

@Roxy8203 I need to look into the local nappy library I think. How many do you have and how often are you doing a wash? I just think with how many nappies he is going through I will need about 20 nappies and be washing every 2 days - is that about average?

Sara7455 · 19/10/2020 23:59

@WillowT we were having a moment of grizzling when put in the snuzpod tonight and demanding to sleep on me instead - think it was overtired in our case as we’d had a busy day. I tried @ShiningStarz tip of putting him in his pod and getting my head and shoulders in there with him right up by his face, held his hand as well and he did drift off to sleep. I cuddled him until he was drowsy first but he was opening his eyes and complaining when I put him down. Seems to have worked a treat and he stayed asleep after I slid back out and into my own bed. Could be worth a try especially if you can get her to sleep next to you but would prefer not to cosleep.

WillowT · 20/10/2020 00:18

Thanks @Sara7455, will give it a go. She has an upset tummy at the moment due to antibiotics so she finds lying on her back uncomfortable. We've decided just to let us snuggle us until she feels better. They've affected me too so can't imagine how she feels.

According to the wonder weeks app, she's going through a leap which is making her clingy too which doesn't help.

Thanks again everyone for your advice.

Sara7455 · 20/10/2020 01:41

@WillowT bless her poor girl. Antibiotics and a leap at the same time would make anyone a bit clingy and sad! Hopefully it won’t be too much longer for you both and everyone will be able to get some sleep!

Roxy8203 · 20/10/2020 03:25

@flameprincess the hire kit has about 20 and I brought a set of 10 but I have some in the car and nappy bag etc so don't use all of them and we wash every other day. Occasionally we've washed everyday but he's a heavy wetter and so can get through them if he's been cluster feeding.
The nappy library have been great and let me extend the hire coz he was born 9 days late so we had them all that time without being able to use them, definitely worth looking into. My one does a birth to potty trail kit with all different sorts so you get to see which type you prefer

ShiningStarz · 20/10/2020 03:48

I just fed and put little one back down and I watched her grunt and kick (no crying) until she turned herself 90 degrees!! She literally got her feet at my face 😂 she's fallen asleep now! I had to remove the blanket!! Look forward to progressing to sleeping bag hopefully by end of this week!! Another development change in her this week! So exciting watching them find their hands and feet!! She touched her first faces book last night! It makes crinkly sound when touched and she did it over and over!

MooseWL · 20/10/2020 09:01

@willowT I don't have the wonderweeks app but I have the book and I thought the first leap was 4-5 weeks? Does that mean as we're 3 weeks 1 day that's technically the 4th week? Or would it be after he turns 4 weeks? The book doesn't make it clear and maybe the app is a little clearer as I know your LO is around the same age.
Also do you mind me asking what antibiotics you're on (ignore me if not!) I was prescribed some last week for an infection in my throat but was told to salt gargle for a week instead to see if that worked then start the antibiotics if not as the doc did say it could pass in my milk and it was fine for the baby but he could have some sensitivity to them, so I'm a bit reluctant to take them unless I really really have to!

WillowT · 20/10/2020 09:05

@MooseWL It's done from the due date rather than the birth date which is why it is slightly out with their age.

The antibiotics are for an infection in my stitches. Turns out I had several infections 🙄 so been on two types, one week of each
