Hi all 👋🏻

Here's a new thread so we can keep chatting through the sleepless nights and the many outfits they've already grown out of... 😄

@willowT ahh that makes more sense! I bet it'll lovely after the leap when they're more alert/ aware!
Hope your infections are getting better.

Margo34 · 20/10/2020 10:59

@flameprincess I'm using reuseable nappies and wipes, absolutely love them! We had a longer stay in hospital than anticipated (NICU) so didn't use from birth as intended but have done since we got home.
We have 6 newborn close pop-ins with 4 extra soakers, 6 little and bloomz newborn pocket nappies, 3 Baba and Boo newborn pockets, a bunch of muslinz and 2 newborn blueberry wraps. I wash every day and just about have enough to use full time at the moment (while the weather is good and helps speed up drying). We've had to use disposables overnight once since we got got home as the nappies weren't dry! We change every 2-3hours. We've had one explosive poo incident that went up the back and out the sides but that was in a disposable, the reuseables have contained everything! We also started getting a bit of a sore red bum by the end of our stay in hospital in disposables but have no issues at all with reuseables. So impressed.

My DH favours the pop-ins but baby girl will outgrow them very quickly, the others are all adjustable so should get longer use. She was 8lb 7oz at her last weigh in last week.

flameprincess · 20/10/2020 11:17

Thanks everyone who advised on cloth nappies. So far I have a few two parts (tots bots/little lamb and littles & blooms) I think I need to try a pocket nappy then I will decide what to go with when purchasing the bulk of them. I can't wait to just switch over totally as think it will be better for his bum he has a perpetually red one at the moment.

Roxy8203 · 20/10/2020 12:02

@flameprincess if you don't have an issue with it I'd suggest seeing if you can get preloved. It will probably save you a lot of money and they should be in a decent condition as they get grown out of pretty quickly.
My little one hasn't had an rash issues either, the cloth is kinder on their skin and has no chemicals in.

Chanel05 · 25/10/2020 09:29

Hi all hope you're well and enjoying newborn snuggles! My dd is 5 weeks (I was actually just about to type 5+3 - pregnancy brain back on!!) and she hasn't had a poo since Thursday afternoon where she had a nappy explosion. She's visibly very uncomfortable and has had tricky nights since then. Any tips on helping get her bowels moving? We've tried cooled boiled water, tummy massages, leg cycling and lifting, a warm bath but nothing has worked Sad

Sara7455 · 25/10/2020 10:37

@Chanel05 have you tried taking her for a walk or a drive? I read somewhere that the reason babies struggle sometimes is that unlike us they’re lying down all the time and don’t do the walking and running about we do that helps get our systems moving. DS hasn’t been too bad recently but I used to try all the things you’d suggested. He’ll often go though after a trip out in the car or when I’ve been wandering about carrying him upright for a while or bouncing him on my knee (neck supported obviously) and I wondered if the movement is what helped him out. If not then maybe speak to the GP as she might need something prescribed if she’s really struggling

ShiningStarz · 25/10/2020 15:13

@Chanel05 the peadeatrician I saw said cooled boiling water with orange. I actually bought an orange today and plan to squeeze it and give it to her every couple days. Hopefully works as our little girl is the same

Margo34 · 26/10/2020 00:32

Mastitis!!!
I don't know what I could have done differently to avoid it but I've got it and it's utter utter agony 😭
Breastfeeding is hard!

WillowT · 26/10/2020 04:18

@Margo34 I was recommended in the hospital to change the position I feed in each time to make sure she takes milk from all areas. At the moment, she feeds lying across my stomach but they recommended using the "rugby ball" position too. If it doesn't clear up soon, get some antibiotics from the doc to help and keep an eye on you temp!

OrDis · 26/10/2020 09:24

Oh @Margo34 I do feel for you! Mastitis was my worst fear about BF! Feel better soon.

Lilice · 26/10/2020 21:54

@chanel5 i would ring the HV or gp to tell them. They're not supposed to go several days without a bowel movement - sorry i don't want to stress you out and im sure baby Chanel will be fine, but I'd ring them just for peace of mind

kersh33 · 28/10/2020 11:56

Another question I'm afraid. I gave birth on the 2nd November and am still bleeding heavily enough to need to change pads a couple of times a day. Is anyone else still bleeding 7/8 weeks on? It just feels like the never ending period at the moment!! 😱

ShiningStarz · 28/10/2020 15:11

Hi @kersh33 that does sound a bit long. I bled for 3.5 weeks and it was 1 pad a day and that was post c section. Might be worth calling your health visitor

CookieBlue · 28/10/2020 15:52

@kersh33 I would maybe ask your GP or health visitor. With my older daughter I remember I bled for 6 weeks and that seemed like it lasted forever. This time I bled for around 4 weeks, had a weeks break and then my period came back!

ShiningStarz · 28/10/2020 16:55

Anyone talked to their GP about contraception yet? We still haven't 🙈 DD is never asleep at the right time!! I was on pill but thinking about coil now as not planning another baby x

flameprincess · 28/10/2020 17:02

@ShiningStarz new baby is our contraception. I just can't imagine doing it at all - I would like to but DS is just never settled enough for me to be comfortable attempting it Confused

Previously I got sick of birth control pills, no matter what type I tried I had some negative side effects. Endless periods, sore boobs, mood swings etc. We ended up just using condoms in the end and will probably go back to that. I am too scared of the coil I just have visions of it dislodging and I can't get over the fear.

OrDis · 28/10/2020 17:12

I’m tempted to go for an implant but I imagine it will be quite tough to get one at the mo as they probably aren't doing them due to the pandemic.

I’m also still bleeding but pretty lightly. It often doesnt stain the pad and is just there when I wipe. I’m 4 weeks pp.

Sara7455 · 28/10/2020 18:18

@ShiningStarz I had the copper coil before and loved it. Lasts ages and no hormones, will probably get one again and GP said fine as we’re planning to wait at least a few years before thinking about having a new baby. She did say though that I can’t have it until I’ve stopped expressing as something about the milk producing hormones soften the uterus and she didn’t want to stab the coil straight through the wall of it. While you’re still expressing or BF she said mini pill or condoms are the only option.

ShiningStarz · 29/10/2020 22:07

Hehe @flameprincess I'm glad it's not just me that feels like this!!! I shaved my legs tonight lol
It's a miracle!!!

@Sara7455 ah I didn't think about the expressing. I completely dried up. Will chat to GP about BF meds and starting again with it even though she's 7 weeks Iv heard it's possible.

LO is 7 weeks today. Still wakes every 2 hrs for feed at night... anyone else? She usually takes 130ml during day but night feeds are always less than 100ml, sometimes as little as 60ml :)

ShiningStarz · 29/10/2020 22:57

Anyone else's c section yummy just feel odd cause it's numb?? When Iv something loose on n it brushes against stomach it feels horrible

Sara7455 · 30/10/2020 02:07

@ShiningStarz I guess you can ask about both. My GP office got me to speak to their specific women’s health GP and she was pretty clued up on all things contraception and BF. Not sure how much longer I’ll manage expressing though tbh - trying to continue as long as possible but the more alert and demanding he gets in the day the harder it is!

Chanel05 · 30/10/2020 02:12

@ShiningStarz I'm considering the coil too as I just don't want to pump hormones into my body any more. I was on the pill for 12 years and I'm fed up of it.

MooseWL · 30/10/2020 03:18

Also considering the copper coil as it took me a year of coming off the pill for my periods to go back to normal so took almost 2 years to get pregnant and I do want another baby in the not too distant future (I literally can't believe I'm saying that whilst awake at 3am with a baby that won't be put down 😂)
The coil scares me a bit though!

I'm with ya @flameprincess having a baby is good contraception. Firstly not ready for anyone near the business end 😂 and secondly how does anyone find the time. Even if I did have spare time I think I'd rather nap 😂

ChipsAreLife · 30/10/2020 03:39

I'm trying to convince DH to get the snip. I hate being on contraception and we are very fertile. We've not had sex yet as we worry I'll fall pregnant again so we are like teenagers and we've just done 'bits'. 🤣

@ShiningStarz we are feeding every 3 hours at night generally but he takes a good amount say 150/160 ml of expressed milk. I think until they're 12 weeks it's to be expected

@Sara7455 I remember having a smear whilst breastfeeding and it was really tender and sensitive! Nurse said your cervix is very sensitive when feeding. Apparently it's your body trying to stop you wanting sex so you don't fall preg with a little one. Who knows if that's true but I remember my smear being awful!!

Baby's diarrhoea is awful again today. Can't wait to see paeds in less than two weeks to hopefully get some answers! We've got some Halloween fun this weekend and we've got a lovely orange romper for Ed 😍. Expect he will sleep through all the excitement like he did at the pumpkin patch 🤣

Sara7455 · 30/10/2020 06:25

@ChipsAreLife - oo good warning! I keep getting letters saying my smear is due and hadnt booked it yet as you’re meant to wait until you’re a certain time post partum I thought? Might hang on another few weeks until I stop expressing (we’re weaning in December - eek!) before I book the appointment.

Haha we went to the farm park and pumpkin patch the other day and he slept through the whole thing. Just woke up in the cafe when we had lunch so he could be adored by the waitresses 😂
