Hi all 👋🏻

Here's a new thread so we can keep chatting through the sleepless nights and the many outfits they've already grown out of... 😄

Thank you, @MooseWL - sent a request to join there!

@Sara7455, we went for the HD US, L really didn’t enjoy it 🙈 She has slight ‘immaturity’ of the left hip but apparently they give it until 12 weeks to correct itself? Really hope she doesn’t have to have any intervention - I was in braces and double nappies 🙈 Sonographer was confident all would be fine but can’t help but worry!

We’ve only begun a little bedtime routine but it seems like if she hears the word ‘bed’ or ‘nap’ she’ll decide to stay up for a natter! DP is great too - he has an Apple Music playlist for bedtime and all, very cute!

OrDis · 17/10/2020 15:33

Thanks @MooseWL have also sent a request

baggies · 17/10/2020 15:40

@MooseWL I've sent a request, Hope you'll allow me to join. Daughter had baby girl on 18/9, but I've been following this thread since it started and find it really useful to share info with my daughter. She's really struggled lately and your thread had been a godsend. I tell her how you lovely ladies are coping and it reassures her. Hope this is ok?

Sara7455 · 17/10/2020 17:08

@glasha87 oh poor L not enjoying it. It is weird seeing them wedged in that little contraption. W was just a bit wriggly so it took a while to get a proper look.
Fingers crossed the immaturity corrects itself - no expert but from the terminology it sounds like it might!

ShiningStarz · 17/10/2020 21:27

Hi guys I'll not be joining any facebook group as you never never know who is requesting to join. Happy to chat on here for as long as it continues. Thanks!!!

flameprincess · 17/10/2020 21:29

Thanks @MooseWL I have sent a request.

So reassuring to read everyone's experiences at this stage. Baby boy is just coming up to 4 weeks old and everytime we have a good night (I class that as only waking up twice) and I think I've cracked it, he goes on a wild feeding frenzy the night after haha. EBF is so hard and tiring I've cracked and give him a bottle after 3 hours of feeding constantly in the night sometimes. I know everything says not to as he is 'cluster feeding' but I need my sanity!

I know this sounds daft but is anyone else bothered by wearing a mask around their baby? The few times we have gone out to the shops he has slept in the buggy but I've been worried about him waking up and being petrified at the sight of me in a mask. I need to get a grip I think. I've found a baby sensory group that's actually running nearby that starts after half term but I'm almost scared to go as I don't want to do all the lovely binding and sensory stuff with a mask on... am I being daft?!

flameprincess · 17/10/2020 21:51

@MooseWL - for the FB group you can set a set of joining questions to weed out any weirdos requesting to join - e.g ask ppl their Mumsnet username and ensure it corresponds with a post on this thread - @ShiningStarz would this make you more comfortable? No pressure either way but may be worth doing anyway incase others are unsure about joining.

MooseWL · 17/10/2020 22:10

@flameprincess I've just done that and asked people to add their username before approval, was trying to figure it out earlier but I think it's done now. It's a private group too @shiningstarz so members have to be approved. Understand if not though, we can continue here too it's just nice to see real faces 😊

MooseWL · 17/10/2020 22:15

@flameprincess I think at this age because they're only just getting used to seeing us they probably are less likely to be weirded out by the mask than an older baby who has not been used to it from the start if that makes sense?

With you on the cluster feeding. I get so excited by a 3 hour sleep stretch which normally happens between 11-2 for us but then when he wakes up at 4.30 ish he won't go back down and just wants to cluster feed until morning. I managed to get a 90 minute sofa nap in this afternoon though and I feel like a new person after it! My next goal is to shower/nap in the same day 😂

Sara7455 · 17/10/2020 22:16

@flameprincess I totally get your anxiety about mask wearing but wouldn’t worry too much. Maybe try in the house for like 5mins first and see how baby copes in a comfortable familiar environment? With W in nicu for so long he only saw us in masks for the first 2months bless him. They seem to be fine about it if they’re used to it.
As for the sensory class - for our baby classes (music/massage/buggy fit etc) you wear the mask going in but then you’re at your own station 2m apart from anyone else and once it’s you and LO at the station you’re permitted to removed the mask so baby still sees mummy’s smiling face. Might be worth asking if yours is the same?

@MooseWL the joining questions are definitely a good idea. Facebook is so much more personal with our real names and photos etc so I understand @ShiningStarz concerns about strangers joining rather than us mums being much worse than here where us and our babies are protected to an extent by usernames and so on.

Sara7455 · 17/10/2020 22:17

@MooseWL - ha, spent so long typing that you’d already acted before I hit post!!

ShiningStarz · 18/10/2020 04:27

@flameprincess the questions is a great idea. I suppose for me like @Sara7455 says anyone can join here but we are protected with no identity being shared. However on Facebook that changes and once your full name and identity and pictures (if you post) of your baby are stared there no going back. I'll Stay here xx

Wow you guys ebf and cluster feeding are doing amazing!!! We are pretty much on aptamil now. Wished I could have done it 🙁

Lorna198 · 18/10/2020 06:50

Happiness is ... Little one sleeping 5.5 hours straight 💙 only took nearly 8 weeks 😂

Sara7455 · 18/10/2020 06:55

@ShiningStarz whatever you’re most comfortable with. No obligation to join the Facebook group if you don’t want to and if you do join there’s no obligation to share or post anything you’re not happy with. I’m sure people will keep responding here if you decide this is where you’re happier xx

Also in awe of the ladies handling cluster feeding and ebf. I get exhausted bottle feeding when he hits a growth spurt! He’s about 50/50 formula to breast milk now I reckon but you wean preemies from their birth date not due date (which gets used for almost everything else) so we’re only two months away from starting solids. Trying to hang on in there with a little bit of pumping for that last stretch before I’m busy turning foods into purée!

MooseWL · 18/10/2020 07:17

I fell asleep for 90 minutes whilst feeding last night with the baby next to me😩😩😩 those of you that safe co sleep do you just tuck the duvet around you, or not use a duvet? Terrifying.

@shiningstarz @sara7455 no one will know in a years time how your baby was fed. I'm too lazy to introduce formula because I'd find sterilising/making up bottles a faf. There is no easy way of feeding a baby!
@Lorna198 incredibly jealous 😂

Sara7455 · 18/10/2020 07:28

@Lorna198 - yay! We managed 5.5hrs last night as well- thank goodness as we haven’t had the best week of sleep. Always keeping my fingers crossed on big sleep nights that they’re the new normal! Bet you feel amazing for some sleep!

Sara7455 · 18/10/2020 07:31

@MooseWL you’re so right. Drawbacks with all ways around it. The absolute fear of not having any clean bottles ready when he’s screaming already 🙈. Still thing you ebf mummas are heroes though. Middle of the night cluster feeding nearly pushed me over the edge when we were still trying it!

ShiningStarz · 18/10/2020 08:31

@Lorna198 @Sara7455 wow super sleepers!!! Our little girl is 5.5 weeks and is still at the stage of waking every 2 ish hrs for feed! I can't even begin to imagine her sleeping 5.5 hrs whoa !!!!

Sara7455 · 18/10/2020 08:38

@ShiningStarz it’s not every night still but such a treat when they manage it. Usually he’s hungry every 3.5hrs but occasionally he’ll throw in a big sleep and you feel so much more human when they do it.

ShiningStarz · 18/10/2020 08:41

That's great @Sara7455 it's so lovely to hear wren doing so well. Crazy you'll be starting solids in couple months!! Wren will be getting a Christmas dinner !! 🦃 🥔 😋

Sara7455 · 18/10/2020 08:47

@ShiningStarz so excited for him to have his first Christmas dinner even if it’s probably just going to be carrot purée or something that early on. Feels weird Thinking about weaning him, he’s so tiny still! He’s having to have an occupational therapy appointment to prescribe a special high chair to help him sit at the table as he’ll be too small to sit up properly to eat like a regular 6 month old 🙈

ShiningStarz · 18/10/2020 08:52

@Sara7455 he's thriving though by the sounds of it. That's great that occ health provide those things, I had no idea but that's great. Give him another month or 2 after having the chair and he'll continue flying especially with proper food in him!! Very exciting 💕 I was actually looking on amazon for weaning books, think Anna Karmel is supposed to be the Best. There joe wicks too. Iv found these super cute bamboo weaning bowls. They are stupidly expensive but I think I'll get one and a spoon!!

Sara7455 · 18/10/2020 09:00

@ShiningStarz - I imagine the nhs support varies by area for this as with all things but they’ve been brilliant where we are. Couldn’t ask for more from them.
I got the Joe wicks book and the free Ella’s kitchen pack. I’ll probably get the Ella’s Kitchen first foods book as well as they have recipes from 4months which I guess will be more appropriate for what he’s capable of eating. Don’t think he’ll be physically able to do blw with finger food until he’s bigger.
That set is super cute! I haven’t even started thinking about bowls yet, think it makes it too real that we’re getting to weaning already when I’m still mainly thinking about cute onesies 😂

LatteLover12 · 18/10/2020 09:12

We're cluster feeding here too 😩 my poor boobs! 😂

We're still on every 2-3 hours as well @ShiningStarz he's putting on weight so fast though - he added almost 2lb in the last week!

I think we need to sort out the 0-3m clothes too because the up to 1m outfits are looking rather snug!

I'd thoroughly recommend the Annabel Karmel weaning book @Sara7455 (the white one) I've still got my copy from DS1 12 years ago 😁

What's everyone doing today? We're planning on a walk out to the local village where a street food van is coming to serve fancy breakfast/brunch. Just got to get DP out of bed first 🙄

Anyone else getting the rage at how much sleep their partners are getting? I'm trying to reason with myself that he can't do the feeds but seriously, if he tells me he's tired one more time when I've watched him sleep for 10 hours I might kill him...

ShiningStarz · 18/10/2020 09:53

@LatteLover12 poor hyphen, I really feel for you. One one hand you are doing great at the ebf but on the other DH sleeps as there's nothing he can help with in the feeding dept. Complaining he's tired tho lol!! Men just don't have the same balls as us!!! We are wonder women !!!
As we are on formula it is easier sharing the feeds and sleeping but I'd rather be a successful breast feeder. I just hope what I did in the early days is enough for her immune system.

Our little one is getting snug info her up to 1 months baby grows but bodysuits still ok! Also for a few 0-3 outfits which iv had her in just in just the past week and she starting to fit them although some too big depending on what shop. Feels weird putting her in an outfit but I didn't want the gifts going to waste! Shame wev no place to go!!! In NI we are pretty much back in lockdown so it'll be walk and if we are lucky a takeaway coffee :)

@Sara7455 i will prob end up getting the annabel one and another. Would you recommend joe wicks? Mixed reviews on it on amazon. The bamboo sip cups look fab too.
