@ShiningStarz definitely don’t beat yourself up over it. You aren’t alone, there’s several of us in this group even! Parenting is so tough, but so worth it - sounds like you’re doing a great job.
They used to give Wren a dummy (“soother”) in hospital but I haven’t really since he’s been home. The lullaby trust recommends them but I think they had bad press when we were kids- mil isn’t a fan- maybe why your DP is reluctant?

liquoricecravings · 04/10/2020 23:31

@MooseWL I'm breastfeeding too and Charlotte went from 8lb 6oz to 8lb 1oz on day 5. I saw the midwife on day three as I was so upset that I'd been cut and had stitches so wanted them checked out. She told me to wake Charlotte more for feeds as she wasn't feeding as regularly as she wanted but that was the day my milk come in. Now my milk supply is here she feeds for longer. I think it was such hard work for her to get the colostrum out that when the milk came she found that it's easier to suckle. She weighed 8lb 9oz on day 10.
The health visitor told me that they typically let breastfed babies have a month to get back to their birth weight so try not to worry. If you're changing lots of nappies that's the best daily indication that feeding is going well.

Lorna198 · 05/10/2020 03:29

We use cow and gate and it’s foamy too. Leave it to stand and some foam disappears. Have used the ready made bottles a couple of times but find it makes an awful mess in his nappy 😂 so try and avoid it if we can lol

ShiningStarz · 05/10/2020 03:58

@Sara7455 he doesn't want to give her something false to settle her. Suppose in some ways he's right, if we can settle her and she doesn't need it in next couple months we will avoid it altogether. The lullaby trust recommends weaning them off it at 6 months!! Iv never known any child to give it up until around 2-3 years old and even then it's bribery lol
@Lorna198 wev stopped the power formula! Will speak to HV tomorrow about my BM supply for expressing. I know I'm not expressing enough but when she wants held all the time it's hard to be comfortable holding her and expressing. Still haven't looked into pumping bra..maybe I should!!

Margo34 · 05/10/2020 04:25

She's a girl!! Baby girl 7lb 10oz born yesterday at 41+1.

Turns out I was in labour and having contractions for all of Saturday since about 10am but didn't believe I was as they didn't feel as painful as I'd thought they should. Still wasn't convinced I was in labour even on route to hospital at 4.30am Sunday morning until I was assessed and sent straight to delivery ward! 😂

We're staying in for observation and monitoring as she pooped meconium in her waters, but 🤞 we'll be reunited with daddy and sent home later on Monday.

Still cannot believe I have a baby girl, so in love already 😍

ShiningStarz · 05/10/2020 04:29

Congrats @Margo34 wonderful news. Enjoy your baby girl 💗
Our little girl arrived almost 4 weeks ago and it's amazing watching them everyday. Such a wonderful time xx

Sara7455 · 05/10/2020 06:24

@ShiningStarz that seems reasonable. I had one as a kid and like you say I still had it when I was about 3. To be honest though, once they figure out sucking their thumbs I think if they’re really after comfort sucking Rather than food then they’ll just do that and there won’t be a lot we can do! Like I say, I haven’t really given one to Wren since we’ve been back from hospital- we’re the other way around and it’s my DP who keeps querying whether we should give him one again!

Sara7455 · 05/10/2020 06:25

Congrats @Margo34 how lovely to have a little girl and what sounds like a lovely positive birth experience! So happy for you she’s here now!

WillowT · 05/10/2020 06:42

Congrats @Margo34 such wonderful news and sounds like a positive experience. Little girls are awesome and as @ShiningStarz says, it's great watching them change. I'm a week in and my one has changed so much already!

Lorna198 · 05/10/2020 06:48

Congratulations @Margo34 glad you are both ok 💖
Just 4 left on the list, @crazyexornot @pangolin84 @NeuroMama and @LooseyGoosey hope you are all doing well ❤️

ShiningStarz · 05/10/2020 08:10

Eeeeek just 4 to go!!! Can't wait to hear happy news xxx

OrDis · 05/10/2020 09:52

Congrats @Margo34 lovely news!

We’ve been using cow and gate ready made formula so far. Its making her a bit gassy so just trying to wind her lots and lots otherwise she writhes around uncomfortably in the crib all night panting. Going to get a prep machine today and start on powder. Getting weighed later so will be interested to see how much she’s lost as not sure if we are over/under feeding her with the formula!

MooseWL · 05/10/2020 09:54

@margo34 great news so pleased it happened naturally for you. Enjoy your baby girl 💕

NeuroMama · 05/10/2020 10:26

Congratulations @margo34 🥰
I'm in early labour 🎉 Have been having contractions all night (varying from 3-10min apart). Feeling pretty manageable at the moment. They are intense but luckily between them I'm fairly comfortable still. Now in the dilemma of do I stay up and active to try and encourage progression or do I rest as much as I can in case this goes on for a long time. I wish birth came with a better schedule 🤣

WillowT · 05/10/2020 10:29

Ooh, exciting @NeuroMama I can't offer advice...mine started in the middle of the night so stayed in bed and was in hospital by 7am as progressed relatively quickly.

Wishing you a speedy labour and look forward to hearing your news :)

ShiningStarz · 05/10/2020 11:39

Good luck @NeuroMama 💜

Smilymami · 05/10/2020 17:32

@NeuroMamaa .. I was in early labour for nearly two weeks before I went in to be induced. I used to walk around, bounce on my ball, do house chores e.t.c to encourage things to kick off but it didn't. Wish I hadn't stressed myself and just waited. Wait until you are in active phase before u start to move around. When I was in active labour, I never lay down for up to 20mins. I was up and about throughout the whole thing. Active labour ended up lasting only 2 hours with no pain relief. Goodluck

pangolin84 · 05/10/2020 21:59

Our baby boy arrived today at 2pm after my waters broke at 4.30am. Totally in love 🥰 Quite a dramatic delivery as his heart rate was dropping during contractions so we needed a helping hand to get him out and got rushed to theatre. Such a whirlwind of a day!

MooseWL · 05/10/2020 22:10

@pangolin84 congratulations, hope you're both doing well. 💕
Good luck @neuromama you'll meet your baby soon!

WillowT · 05/10/2020 22:17

Congratulations @pangolin84 Hope you are recovering well. Enjoy your new little person

News!! Now you'll be messaging in the middle of the night like the rest of us!!

Think that's just @NeuroMama to go!! Hugs and luck xx

MooseWL · 06/10/2020 04:48

@shiningstarz 4am club 🥳

Trying to get Jacob to take longer feeds as he'd lost weight again yesterday so trying to keep him awake on the boob whereas before he'd fall asleep quite quickly. It's actually helped him go down (only for an hour but small wins) between night feeds and I'm finding it more manageable. He's also got an infection in his cord stump so has antibiotic cream bless. The cord fell off yesterday and I've never smelt anything like it 🤢🤢

Been looking at a haaka tonight, has anyone used one?

I've also started using the one second a day app to save a 1 second video each day which it then compiles which is really lovely and free and would recommend!

ShiningStarz · 06/10/2020 05:24

Oh no @MooseWL I hope he gets over the infection quick. I'm sure it's very common.

That one second a day app sounds great. I keep meaning to take more videos but taking more live pics! I have the moment cards, just need to remember to take the monthly pics!

I'm usually the 3am-wake up time club! This little girl hates being set down! So she is currently asleep on my chest! I'm cherishing every moment though. Thankfully there's not much to be at during the day so I can be a zombie slob! Perfect for Halloween 🎃 👻 😂

Breastfeeding for me has been a nightmare. I can only pump twice a day and because of that I'm barely getting anything! I need to decide to put more effort it / just go with FF. I really would love her to BF. I'd need to use pump for 5 mins pre feeds to get the nipples pointy to enable her to latch. Hopefully she'll let me set her down to let me do that. Iv read that it's possible to stop and start again. 🤞
