For want of a better title, I'll go with Inzi's

Well then, today has all been a bit of a blur for me so far. Dropped ds off at nursery, then went to see mw at 10.30, she did a sweep (wasn't that uncomfortable by the way) and then pronounced that she thought he might still be breech so sent me off straight to hospital for a scan. Got there at 11.30, had scan.... and he is breech because she did me a sweep they don;t want to leave me over the weekend, so I am going in for a cs tomorrow morning 8am my mind is all a whirl, thought I would let you all know, and then I am going to repack my bags now I know what's happening. Will probably be in hospital till monday/tues if there are no problems. So much to sort out and do this afternoon now, must get on, will catch up with you all later, hopefully you will find this thread ok

Buffy sorry to hear everything you have been through - hope things start to get better for you now that Scarlette is home...

HMP - thinking of you today honey - sorry didn't get to post yesterday so you probably won't see this but I'm thinking of you today...

Nellie - thinking of you on Friday too in case don't post before then. Good luck!

Muppet and Dalrymps - good luck with hospital appointments today!

Good luck and big hugs to everyone else!

Choc - looking forward to catching up next week. Hope your last week goes OK - take it easy!

alicet · 17/10/2007 12:24

Oh and sympathise with everyone getting the 'anynews?' calls. I got these despite both of my lo's arriving a week early. Do people not think you would tell them? I took to ignoring messages like these and hoped people would get the message!!!

gemmamc · 17/10/2007 12:29

Inzi - I've been feeling the same way. I am getting those constant thoughts that "this is it" whenever I get a twinge (and I'm getting lots of strange ones).

And then the swelling is really driving me mad, I must say. Today I also weighed myself and saw that I have now gained more than 44 pounds over the whole pregnancy and I got all worked up about it and started feeling really down, crying, panicking about this being a sign something is wrong, etc...

DH kept on telling me that I don't look that different from before apart from the big bump, and that I am tall and everything + the midwifes would have noticed if something was really wrong - but I really think my face is way too round and puffy... I haven't been eating that much! It must be water retention so I hope it will all go away after giving birth.

And those constant phone calls - yes I am getting them too although I try to remember that people are just as anxious as we are about it all and they don't mean to be irritating!! I do get irritated though when people keep on saying "make sure you get some rest now, because later....". How am I supposed to rest when I am suffering from insomnia??

Anyway, it will soon all change. Good luck to everyone - let's hope we haven't got much more to wait.

gemmamc · 17/10/2007 12:30

sorry about the rant!

J20DemondaughterandDevilbaby · 17/10/2007 12:31

hi everyone-sorry your all getting fed up, just wanted to say-even though this lo's birth was pretty horendous near the end, it was nice to have had the natural birth bit at the beginning compared to being induced-it was lovely to have a break inbetween contractions

J20DemondaughterandDevilbaby · 17/10/2007 12:33

gem-don't weigh yourself!!! don't worry about the swelling, i lost a stone as soon as i had lo and then i'd lost another one after 5 days once i'd got rid of all my water through peeing and sweating

gemmamc · 17/10/2007 12:37

thanks j20! looking forward to all that peeing and sweating then!!

You're right, I shouldn't have weighed myself. Too late i guess. I know that weight gain can be very different from one person to another, and there are many factors to consider...

44lbs doesn't sound that much if you're tall - I have put on 2 stone and I am only 5 foot! It comes off pretty easily after - think I have lost about 1 and a half already - bf really does make it all drop off pretty quick.

gemmamc · 17/10/2007 14:45

an additional incentive to breastfeed I guess...although this means I'll soon be moaning about sore nipples and generally about how hard it is!

Alice, I am glad to hear you think I haven't gained that much weight - I am 5' 7'' (btw, I had to find a website to do a conversion from the metric system because despite living here for 11 years I still can't get used to this country's imperial measures! LOL....I'll have the same problem when I'll be trying to tell you how much my baby weighs.. I guess it will be written down somewhere...)

Inzi - aren't our dhs great though at thinking we look fine just as we are?

ChocolateHobnob · 17/10/2007 18:48

Hi all

Gemma - I havent dared go on the scales! I just don't want to know...

Inzi - glad you're okay even if it's really really dragging now. I am sure it'll happen for you soon sweetie - are you 38 weeks too?

Muppet-what happened?

I had a crap appointment with the midwife - it was a stand-in one; mine is on holiday, and she was really negative. Anyway last week she thought lo was breech and went on about c-section. Today she couldnt say that because scan showed otherwise but unfortunately scan also showed head was deflexed in a certain way which the sonographer said would be fine but she said meant the baby would definitely turn OP. She also said from palpating that baby felt big for my size and she thinks I wont cope with labour and will need an epidural on arrival at the hospital. She was really negative, saying labour will be really long, you're small, the baby isnt tiny [though she doesnt know how big it is - I asked] and that I will need monitoring all the time because the position is so bad. I came away and cried - I know that's stupid and I know there's every chance everyone will want an epidural on arrival but I just felt that she had set the scene for a horrible labour. There's being realistic and being negative... When I left she said 'good luck with the labour because you're not going to have an easy ride' and that just made it worse.

Have mostly got past that by now - making a nice dinner (food therapy!) and trying to just think, well she doesnt know, so just forget it for now.

Anyway hope you're all okay... Unicorn, any action??

unicorn · 17/10/2007 19:04

nothing to report here

choc that m/w sounds awful.. try not to let her bother you- just her silly opinion (bound to be wrong)

Dalrymps.... ? anything???

!!!!!! (Inzi).

My midwife said small baby (different midwife). I think you're right - they know nothing. My fundal height is 36cm and I'm 38 weeks, so dont know how that indicates monster baby...

Dalrymps, yes, she's gone silent!! I bet it's happened. How exciting.

I keep getting BH, uncomfortable but not painful as such. I've had them for months but they're more frequent now - semi-constant. Am sure am going to be late!!!

muppetgirl · 17/10/2007 19:37

Oh Choc what a bloody cow!!! You really
don't need this atm...

My app started off badly but ended okay.
They are not going to induce at all and are letting me go 10 days over. BUT I can have an epidural from whenever I arrive at the hospital and if I eventually have to be induced (Am thinking this is sooooo likely as Ollie was 11 days late) an anethestist will do an epidural at the same time even if we have to wait for them. (The hospital has a dedicated a/t for maternity which is reassuring)

I know this isn't everyone's scenario but having talked through it all with dh/psychologist to find out what the problem is it is definately being out of control with the pain as I was first time round. They won't induce as there is no medical reason to and they think it would fail resulting in a c/section anyway as my body just isn't ready. This I can understand. Big baby or not, this little Henry's still cooking!

Right, just need to get labour started now

muppetgirl · 17/10/2007 19:38

Choc my fundal height is 41 weeks and I'm 37 + 2. Lo is on the bigger side of normal on the 95th centile. They're not worried at all

muppetgirl · 17/10/2007 19:49

Choc having just read ypur op to dh he has said what a complete cow -do you think you could speak to someone about her?? She really shouldn't go around scaring mummies to be like that...

Dalrymps · 17/10/2007 20:09

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing ok. Not in labour yet! Still here, had a lot of tummy ache and back ache and general discomfort today and last night but nothing more yet .
i've been to see the registrar about my growth scan and had a 2nd scan this aft to check still growing at a normal rate, the conclusion is that he's perfectly normal and he's ok. They said that the other midwife who kept arranging all these scans for me and ringing the consultant had gone in to 'overkill' mode and worried me too much when he's not actually that small, they said he'll probably be a normal birth and i'll be back at the midwife led unit to recover straight away, they're just gonna send me to the hospital to err on the side of caution. So they said they are just going to treat me as normal now, they'll allow me to go a max of 10 days overdue and if no sign of him i'll be induced but they said thats pretty much procedure, they'll monitor his heart at 7 days over and give me an interntal to check how 'favourable' I am for induction. I told them i'd rather not be induced if i can help it but she said not to worry and it's a lot gentler than it used to be, they just put some prostin gel up to ripen the cervix and that usually starts it without the need of a hormone drip. However she did say in the meantime to try fresh pinapple, hot curry, hot sex and nipple stimulation. Apparently the nipple thing really works, she said in south africa where they don't have induction drugs they advise people to stimulate their nipples and it definately brings on labour... so those of you who are overdue, get twiddling! I've just had a hot curry and some fresh pinapple, don't know about labour but i can bet on the indegestion when i go to bed! Anyway i feel a bit more relaxed after the appointment so i can just concentrate on getting this baby out now, off to drink some raspberry leaf tea

Dalrymps · 17/10/2007 20:11

By the way chochobnob that midwife sounds like a total idiot, has she never heard of a bedside manner? what a silly thing to say to you as she left, i think she must be a bit strange, i would ignore her and stay positive,

ChocolateHobnob · 17/10/2007 21:11

Muppet, am so glad that you feel more positive! They're probably right about induction. And maybe Henry will come early/on time anyway - don't babies run out of space and then decide to come? Or is that a myth?

Dalrymps, glad your appointment went well too. Good that lo is going to be a reasonable size. And good luck with the nipple stimulation!

I've got over the midwife a bit - it's just this tired/hormonal feeling that makes everything seem 100 times worse. I'm so glad it's my midwife next week. Relief all round.

Only 2 more days at work - tomorrow am actually going into work then Friday at home. It feels really weird but not before time... I need some rest now!

Hope you're all as well as you can be given advanced state of pregnancy!!!

Woooozle100 · 17/10/2007 21:36

hello ladies

I've been a really cack, infrequent poster on this thread (got banned from using it at work and found it even harder to post once finished and in sole charge of my monkey dd)

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and best of luck to you all.

I had my baby, Joel Emrys, on oct 7th. He came a couple of weeks early after a v short (but intense) labour. All is fine and dandy with us - still getting to grips with bf but hey ho.

Had him at a birth centre - overall experience was very lovely and positive (v different from dd) I did find that when mw was advising me to push I really didn't have the urge to.

I used hypnobirthing techniques and found they really helped up until transition (lost it a bit after that. Loved the gas and air though!)

I actually miss being pregnant a bit

WinnieThePooh · 17/10/2007 21:57
