OK hopefully no-one else has started a new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
becklespookle · 03/10/2007 14:43

Mixedmama, problem is I think they are so overstretched so they don't really have time for anyone. I much preferred it when I had the DSs and we saw the doctor for AN appts with a MW in attendance. Despite the fact I have been mentioning hip/pelvis pain since 14 weeks they haven't put it down on my notes as SPD, also haven't put down the VVs either, I would imagine things like that would be quite important! Hopefully your Carpal Tunnel will disappear once LO arrives, it does in a lot of people.
Skidaddle, I think babies can turn until the last minute if there is enough room! From what I have read on here though they can try to turn the baby medically (ECV?) at around 37 weeks if it is still breech although this can be quite distressing for baby and uncomfortable for Mum, doesn't always work either.

mixedmama · 03/10/2007 14:44

Macdoodle.... each to their own I guess. My main reason for sling is that with a toddler I dont want to buy a double buggy.

becklespookle · 03/10/2007 14:51

That's what is so nice about this thread Mixedmama, we are all different and have different plans etc so it is nice to hear what others do and think and compare notes!

macdoodle · 03/10/2007 14:52

I get that MM sensible my DD is 6 so not really an issue here...and talking of DD ..the picture of the sling on the home page had my DD in hysterics she wanted to know why the lady had a baby stuffed up her T shirt PMSL

suey2 · 03/10/2007 14:55

totally agree macd. Maybe it is the big boob thing- and they will get so much bigger! If i was to wear a sling i baby would be held a good 6 inches away! At least with the BB he/she can fit rather more between.

claireybee · 03/10/2007 15:31

Skidaddle, I found the sling tricky to begin with just cos there was so much material but after practicing a few times it really is easy-I tied it in the cross carry and the hammock one and both were easy once i knew what i was doing! Havent mastered putting her on my back yet though. Lifting dd in and out is no problem, but she does support herself so i'm not sure if it would be harder with a floppy newborn-with dd i just kind of put her over my shoulder fireman style while i put her legs in the cross bit, then lower her down and pull the fabric up over her bum. She feels really secure when in it and it doesnt pull on my shoulders neck or back at all.

I also have a pouch sling to mainly use around house etc but i think it might be too big, its ok with dd in the hip carry but her doll kind of dangles around my pelvis. Think i might order a coorie type one as they look much snugger in the pictures (mine was a cheapie off ebay and although its an extra small still seems big-I should've realised though cos the lady in the pic is wearing one thats quite loose too)

I definitely prefer this kind to the baby bjorn/mothercare type which i found really uncomfortable and fiddly.

Like others i have got it in order to avoid double buggies, although i do have a second hand double as well. Another reason I wanted one is cos dd hated being put down when she was tiny and wanted to be carried all the time for the first 2 months or so-if this one is the same dd would be severely neglected without a sling for the baby!

skidaddle · 03/10/2007 15:43

My thinking exactly claireybee - if newborn is happy then I can lavish more attention on poor old dd who will not know what is going on with a new baby in the house!

Thanks for the tips - I suppose it's like anything - you just need a bit of practice and it becomes second nature. That is great that it doesn't pull on your back/shoulders - exactly what you want in a sling - think I might order one (and I can always blame you if I don't like it!!)

claireybee · 03/10/2007 15:48

Lol, I might have to absent myself from mumsnet for a while if you don't then...

Loucee · 03/10/2007 15:50

I've just bought a 2nd hand Babybjorn and also have the Coorie the same as theLady. Found both were excellent in different situations with DD (borrowed the BB last time).

Wizzska, I thought bloods at 28wks were routine? I think I'm to have them again at 34wks but I have no idea what they are checking for!

Claire - good tip on the vaseline.

claireybee · 03/10/2007 16:03

Actually Skidaddle, I should probably say that when it first arrived i did look at it and think Oh God I've wasted my money, cos it was so long and fiddly looking...But i played with it on and off for a weekend and since then have loved it! I also tie mine slightly differently to how they show in the book that comes with it cos i found it easier. I think i got instructions from treehugger mums?

Wizzska · 03/10/2007 16:39

Those sling things look great. What do you do if your DH measures very differently to you. Do you have to get two? I guess you do.

Loucee · 03/10/2007 16:41

I think it depends on what design they are Wizzka. DH doesn't fit in my coorie but we both fit the BB. The ring slings fit everyone as do the wrap around and Mei Teis (gorgeous slings but quite expensive).

mimicakey · 03/10/2007 17:02

Hi, just jumping back a bit, my mw told me we don't need to worry about LO being breech until 36 weeks.

And Nbg, I think it was you, the presssure is on now because I've decided to get the hauck infinity. I can't find any shops that have it in stock so I'm going by your recommendation!! (And I think it looks nice )

Louise76 · 03/10/2007 19:15

Hello,

thelady - thanks for letting me know about your NCT classes. I hope you find them helpful. I had my first NHS antenatal class at my GP surgery this afternoon and I'm glad to say that I am feeling much more positive and upbeat about the whole birth thing (which is a marked improvement on being convinced that I am going to die in childbirth!) There were loads of people there (prob about 20), lots of partners too and everyone was really nice and friendly. I see that some of you ladies have been mentioning perineal massage and raspberry leaf tea. These were both encouraged at my AN class - midwife advised starting perineal massage at 34 wks and raspberry leaf at 37 weeks. She said you can get capsules in Holland and Barrett that mean you don't have to drink gallons of tea!

Housemum · 03/10/2007 19:50

becklespookle I've just ordered a mattress from stores.ebay.co.uk/BABY-MATTRESSES-ONLINE - they do made-to-measure. If you look at their listings for the nearest to your size, they usually have something in there along the lines of "we will make a mattress up to x by x cms for the same price". You can always ask them a question by e-mail if you are unsure about anything. They responded really quickly to me and she even said (correctly) what she expected the measurement for my pram's backrest to be which implied they've done a few silver cross ones before.

thelady · 03/10/2007 22:26

Feel free to ignore this post: I need to whinge to someone other than DH....

I am sore. Bump is so tight I feel like I might split. My wrists and finger joints are complaining - especially if I try to lift anything. My upper back, around/under the shoulder blades feels like I'm being poked with nasty pointy things.

Nothing I try helps! Whinge, whine, general feeling-pathetic-noises. 9 weeks (plus or minus 2) to go .

Cheese to go with the whine is probably my best bet....

Loucee · 03/10/2007 22:30

theLady - sorry you're in pain and uncomfy, my bump feels really tight as well - I think our babies must be the right way round and pushing out at the front (which is some consolation as means they're in a good position).

I had a stinking headache earlier so ate some Terrys chocolate segments to make me feel better - oh how I wish I hadn't now I've got heartburn from hell and feel even more stretched!

Wonder why you're in pain by your shoulder blades? How about a nice semi hot bath - do you think that'd help?

Hope you feel better in the morning, anyway you can get to bed soon?

Caz10 · 03/10/2007 22:31

aaaw thelady - can't help, but can definitely sympathise!
Bump is going to explode, he/she keeps sticking a foot or something up under my ribs (well that's what it feels like!), back aches, I have a ton of work still to do and I WANT TO GO TO BED!!

Hee hee DH is fed up with me moaning too.

The only good thing re my workload is that I am soooo exhausted when I finally finish that I sleep like a log, with just one trip to the loo.

Suey2 that is good news!

Loving all the names! I am thinking of Harriet but not 100% convinced - is it too twee?! Also like Verity. If it's a boy it's getting called Bump cos can't come up with anything else!

OK back to the marking... and [tired face]!

becklespookle · 04/10/2007 00:52

Poor you TheLady, hate being uncomfy. Last few days baby seems to be sticking elbows and knees into me and just holding them there, bump feels heavier too. Must be the stage we are all at now.

Came in from work tonight and took my socks off (those trainer type ones) and OMG my left ankle is so swollen on one side it looks like I have broken it or something! Foot and calf are a bit swollen too but nothing like the ankle! Strangely my right leg is fine but I guess that could be due to the support stocking? Perhaps I should start wearing them on both legs?

Oh and to make things even better, baby has moved downwards again so hips are sore and am waddling again today.

12 more weeks to go - give or take...

mixedmama · 04/10/2007 07:38

Morning ladies,

On a early one today.

Sorry to hear everyone is feeling so uncomfortable, afraid I have nothing contructive to say there, only much the same from me, including the swelling ankles etc, which is awful as I have various problems with my feet anyway so extra swelling doesnt really help. Also went home early yesterday as was sick 4 times, driving my completely up the wall still having bouts of sickness at this stage.

Still not sleeping... mainly DH snoring... tried the patch thing on the nose and didnt really work that well, so woke up at 1.35 and 5.00 not pleased.

Caz10 - Harriet and Verity are both lovely, esp Verity.

Hope we all have a better day today....

suey2 · 04/10/2007 08:06

caz10 verity lovely! I thought for a sec it was the name of the Hitler loving mitford- but that is Unity (PG brain strikes again)

Bouncingturtle · 04/10/2007 08:21

Just about managed to catch up!
Saw Luke last night (3wo today!) I never get tired of him. Gave him a feed, he is a greedy little thing - good to see him thriving. He has had colic, poor baby - my friend recommends Infacol she says it is an absolute Godsend!
Got to talking about my Moses basket (got the covers for it now!) and she says 2 sheets are not enough - Luke has been sick on his several times, so will have to buy more!

mixedmama · 04/10/2007 08:26

Bouncing - I sort of agree. I only had two and DS was quite sicky and we managed but admitedly it would be easier if I had a few more.

Ambi · 04/10/2007 08:44

Agree on the uncomf. side, cannot get comfy in bed except on my back - for all of 5 mins. It's pants, getting a bit fed up of it now, the heartburn is horrendous - and what happens if you drink too much milk as a result? The constant night waking would be fine if I wasn't working 40 hrs a week and trying to function normally. I've now taken to having a notepad with me at all times to remind me of things before PG brain wipes it clean. Enough of the moaning (for now) Got our baby monitor delivered yesterday, we tested it out on the dog, it's very good, little mini screen for day and night. Colleague is giving me a brand new baby bouncing chair, so isn't all that bad, plus get to pick up our car tomorrow. Finally after 7 months of saving our pennies, we get to spend them all. Plus talked hubby into taking a week off with me on my Mat leave so we can decorate the nursery - really looking forward to that.

skidaddle · 04/10/2007 08:45

MM I have started being sick again the last week or two as well - could be our stomachs being so squashed up.

Also not sleeping and went downstairs and screamed at dh last night for waking me up (at 9pm ) sawing and hammering his bl**dy loft ladder! Feel a bit bad now but think he should also feel a bit bad. He got up with dd last night and got her back to sleep without bringing her into our bed and when he came back to bed he said, does this mean I'm out of the bad books?

thelady and everyone else - sympathies for all the aches and pains and at least we are all in the same boat with it all. The last bit is always the longest but it really isn't too far to go until we all have a baby in our arms and then we'll have a whole lot of other stuff to moan about
