Morning all

Hope you all are well.

Feel really full of energy today - which is weird as I am so used to feeling like a sack of rubbish.

THANK YOU INSY - seems like you are the only one who knew!

Neuro - lovely to see you're still hyper (!) and good news from m/w - got my next appointment on Tuesday.

Dudeemarmalade - thought that when a m/w anwers the mobile in the middle of your appointment is normal !! Everytime I go, we are always getting interrupted by calls or that the m/w forgotton something in her car. Yes, my m/w always looks bored and speaks like she is reading from a text book.

Loucee · 03/10/2007 08:56

Morning everyone

Has anyone ever had their eye lashes tinted? I guess if getting you hair coloured in pregnancy it's safe to get your eyelashes done too? I'm not really fair but would love to know if the effects of getting your lashes done is like wearing mascara....

Aquanatal for me today, I love going to the class even if just to feel so much lighter in the water! What a shock I get when I step out of the pool though, spose it's only going to get worse too!

"hump day" today, the weekend is in sight!

dundeemarmalade · 03/10/2007 09:03

if i tell my dh it's hump day today i think he might get the wrong idea...
what i didn't say yesterday re. mw answering phone midway through our appointment was that she started having a conversation about her previous client, and how she'd had to be tested for chlamydia repeatedly. nice. saw the girl later on in tesco too. still, she didn't know i knew iykwim.
we have a plumber in today sorting out radiators and putting on thermostatic valves so the niblet doesn't freeze (or fry).

mixedmama · 03/10/2007 09:04

Morning ladies,

Glad to hear the MW appointments are going well and sorry for those of you who have rubbish MWs, I am in the latter category unfortunately. I am seeing her next week, but as I am considered low risk just not bothering too much about her not being so nice.

thelady - I am shocked that the ANC are women only makes no sense.

Housemum - I am asking for the six hour discharge. If there is no reason to stay in I just dont see the point, altho it may delay visitors so may be i will consider staying but i want to make sure i have a good grasp on feeding before i leave and will i guess base my decision on the day on this.

Neuro - great that you could feel the head. When I was in labour with DS and his head crowned the MW insisted that I touch his head... really didnt want to, but she kept insisting and then DH joined in, very surreal. I am defo going to ask at my appointment altho my MW acts like the only reason she checks the heart beat is to appease me, as she prods around for ages and then goes there you go did you hear it.

Anyway hope everyone is well.

Loucee · 03/10/2007 09:07

Dundee, yeah "hump day" gives most folk a wee giggle, I copied that off a colleague at work!

I would LOVE thermostats on our radiators, you've reminded me to chase the quote from British Gas, I'm so fed up of either being so cold I'm shivering or else so hot I'm opening windows whilst the heating is on!

Loucee · 03/10/2007 09:08

at what your MW was discussing on the phone, how terrible that she has no patient confidentiality

mixedmama · 03/10/2007 09:08

Amani what did insy remember that the rest of us didnt - so nosy.

Loucee · 03/10/2007 09:10

MM, me too - if I'm on a ward and the feeding is going well then I want to get out as soon as possible. If on the other hand I am lucky enough to get a private room then I plan to make myself comfortable and stay a couple of days (unless it's over Christmas).

Perineum massage - did anyone do it last time and does any intend to do it this time? I didn't but was thinking of trying this time round as want to do everything to try and prevent epis scar tearing.

suey2 · 03/10/2007 09:13

loucee i am going to give it a go. Am still a bit freaked out by the 'is sex ever the same after episiotomy' thread on here a couple of months back. Will also try other ways of stretching myself out- from about 34 weeks.

insywinsyspider · 03/10/2007 09:16

i have had eye lashes tinted but not during pg - guess its fine if hair is, I have really sensive eyes so it always made my eyes water and had to be careful that dye didn't run down my face and stain my cheeks! looks really good after tho - I used to have it done for hols

Amani - hope I got it right - was a guess from assessment centres I've done before - good luck for Friday
Am also feeling full of energy even tho ds was 'chatting' from about 5.30am
Not in work tomorrow as childminder can't have ds - really looking forward to it

mixedmama · 03/10/2007 09:23

Loucee - i am still saving for a private room, if i have to stay in then def want to be without other peoples crying babies and have some space.... plus own bathroom... bliss.

Re: per massage, hadnt thought about it but now you mention it it cant do any harm can it.

PELVIC FLOOR LADIES

insywinsyspider · 03/10/2007 09:29

loucee - I didn't do it last time but will this time - when should we start?

suey - I promise you sex can be the same after a episiotomoy (and mine didn't heal very well!)

mm - I answered the question about what a general verbal test was (not sure if I'm right tho )

insywinsyspider · 03/10/2007 09:53

if anyone finds a link on how to do the massage please post it (don't think its appropriate to google it at work )

skidaddle · 03/10/2007 10:04

Morning all - I've only been away one day and it's taken me nearly an hour to catch up on all the messages!

Love the story about your DD and her trainers, amani! My dd has to wear her favourite woolly hat in the bath and to go to bed but then refuses to put it on when we go out - find it quite cute at the moment but may not do for the next year...

Don't know about whether they can ask you about mat leave etc at the interview - was that the question that insy answered? Should be info on the government website? Is the interiew this Friday? Good luck!

loucee/suey2 - I tried perineal massage last time but it really really hurt and freaked me out so I stopped. I have read up on it a bit and there is no conclusive evidence that it significantly reduces tearing but might be worth doing it first time suey just to get an idea of what it feels like - although that's what freaked me out last time!

Still wondering about names... should we compile a list of our three fave girls' and boys' names and see if it gives us any new ideas? We can steal each others' because we don't know each other in real life.

Here are mine (excluding dd's name which is my all time favourite) - please add:

Aoife

Malaika

BOYS
Noah

I had my eyelashes tinted in June this year before going on a camping holiday. I'd quite like to get them done before the birth just for the photos. I like having them done, but I usually go for black rather than brown as it shows up better. The difference between dye and mascara is mascara thickens your lashes too so they look longer and fatter. The dye is a little more subtle.

Re: perineum massage. I will try doing it but the thought doesn't fill me with delight.

at all you energetic, chirpy ladies out there. Still knackered and unable to sleep.

skidaddle · 03/10/2007 10:12

pecka - Aoife is pronounced EEE-fa (it's irish)

Perineal massage - sounds like a job for contortionists! I intend to give it a go - you can buy special gels, or you can use olive oil or almond oil (hmm, olive oil will just get DH making comments about Greek birds!) I think the idea is to get some oil on forefinger and thumb, you gently insert the thumbs into vag, holding perineum between thumb and forefingers, and rub gently whilst stretching gently. If you can reach down there... One for lying down in bed, obviously...

skidaddle · 03/10/2007 10:31

houseum - think it's easy to reack if you sit on the floor with your legs in a V-shape - you can't see obviously but you can reach

BTW did everyone watch part 2 of Bringing up Baby last night? Was completely shocked by Dr. Spock woman saying that you shouldn't bf in public and 'inflict' your breasts on people who don't want to see them!!! I thought she was the only sane one..

DH thought the couple with twins were hilarious because she was just like me (teary and emotional) and he was just like DH (comforting and rational)

skidaddle · 03/10/2007 10:31

reach not reack

Housemum · 03/10/2007 10:36

Buzzybee - I'm seeing a little Matilda tomorrow! A friend is bring round her week-old baby - aaahhhh.

Loucee · 03/10/2007 10:42

Right so it's from 34 wks we start the P.M - will have to remember to do that then a week later start the raspberry leaf tea tablets!

Suey - like Insy my epis healed very well and sex was absolutely fine (infact TMI but it's better!)

Wizzska, thanks for the tip of going for black rather than brown, definitely going to book in for it.
