Oh...tori will you remind me to talk to you about pool? How big is it? Will try to remember to email you. (memory not so good these days!)

Well, had 12 weeks scan yesterday and turns out I'm not due till 13 April so am in the wrong thread!!!! How did I get dates so far out???? Strange

tori32 · 19/09/2007 14:06

If you go onto birthpool in a box website its a big oval one. Still don't know how to attach links and things! I think its about 6ft by 4ft.

Yes I know what you mean about memory. My friend reminded me on Friday that I was babysitting for her dd on Saturday night at 7pm, at 1920 her husband was stood on our doorstep in his best bib and tucker!! I had completely forgotten in 24 hour!

Also I seem to be having senior moments like trying to fill the sugar bowl up but instead filled the coffee cup!

I will send a pic via email of the pool.

feedmenow · 19/09/2007 14:07

Goodness, what a fast moving thread this is!

Preggers, what stand will you be on at the baby Show? I'm planning to go, so might hunt you down and say hi! (or might just hang around for a few minutes feeling shy then go!).

And about the nappies, I quite fancy getting into this a bit more. When I had dd (who is now 8.9) I gave real nappies a go. I only managed for about a week cos they just got wet through in no time. Since then I wondered if maybe I should have used disposables for the first few weeks and then gone into real ones? But now I am thinking that there is obviously a lot more choice and probably technological advancements and maybe I ought to give it some really serious thought. Might do what Derah suggests and loiter on the nappy threads for a while to pick up some useful info.....

tori32 · 19/09/2007 14:07

Oh poor you rachel, longer pregnancy! Hope you will still pop in and let us know how everythings going.

preggersagain · 19/09/2007 15:23

feedme- i will be on C70 (stokke-uk shhhhhh) i'll be the bouncy one with a stupidly large bump giving demonstrations of how simple and easy the xplory is to use!!!

e14mum · 19/09/2007 15:25

Ahh... hard at work are we?
On the micralite website they show the new Toro model. Has anyone seen this yet? Looks like the RRP is about £400 with the carry cot.
Preggers, v. envious of your freebies! However, my SIL is lending me all her newborn stuff- basket, bath, car seat, clothes, toys, etc... so I can't really complain!

merryberry · 19/09/2007 15:25

we have a micralite which will prob use a bit with newborn again. it was great for the newborn as you can rely on the back wheels (airpumped) to take the bumps for all those evil colicky walks aruiond the block in the early evenings. althought the wheels did need filling with that magic gel stuff within a month, as they punctured fast. dp, at 6ft3" was never very comfy pushing it: it doesn't allow him to step out, or to raise the handles.

once ds was sitting, he only tolerated it for about 2 months before the complaints began: he couldn't sit up straight in the fabric sling sit and peer at the world.

feedmenow · 19/09/2007 15:25

Then I'll be sure to come along and have you demonstrate it to me!!

merryberry · 19/09/2007 15:28

oh and the carry cot doesn't sit flat on the fllor when you undo it from the frame, which would have been handy.

ooh, the toro is interesting to look at, tho the carry cot loks veryshallow?

preggersagain · 19/09/2007 15:30

you see merryberry what you need is a 'functional newborn to toddler transport solution' preferably one with 'an elevated view of the world' and of course more importantly 'the ability to adapt to a parent or carers need, both in stride length and handle height'

can you see whee this is heading they don't ask me to do these shows for no reason !!!!

right selling tactics over, anyone who visits the babyshow, come and find the fat woman with the xplory and have a cuppa!!

monthlymayhem · 19/09/2007 15:40

Hello

Ok, the nappy chat is scaring me . I knew buying a pram would be daunting, but choices of nappies too!!! I had no idea 'real' nappies were still around - not sure I could handle having poo in my washing machine either (it's bad enough having DH's muddy rugby stuff every weekend).

I really am starting to feel a bit out of my depth - I like to be organised and research everything in advance but at this rate it's going to take more than the 6 months I have left!!! Ideally if someone, around January time, could just post a list of exactly what to buy and where, with no choices that would be great

preggersagain · 19/09/2007 15:43

it can be done monthlymayhem!! i had a lady who got totally bewildered by the whole baby buying business and came in with a cheque for £1200, just gave it to me and said "i need everything can you deliver it next week" we had to chose a pram, furniture, bedding, nappies, clothes- everything, she wouldn't even discuss it on the phone, anyway it was worth it because we got everything delivered to her and the bill was about £950 and she told me to keep the rest of the money as i'd saved her sanity

monthlymayhem · 19/09/2007 15:50

LOL preggersagain! You may well see me in your shop in January....

skidoodle · 19/09/2007 15:50

I second monthlymayhem's request

e14mum · 19/09/2007 15:52

Wow- where's your store preggers? I'm coming in! It's the tyranny of choice, isn't? Did anyone read an article in the paper recently about it? (Times, maybe? Where it said Tescos carries 38 types of milk?!)

preggersagain · 19/09/2007 16:13

lol at you lot!!! its the most exciting part choosing all the bits!! alternativly you can visit me in Mid Wales, cheques also gratefully recieved with a list of requirements

seriously though i'll try and do a discount on any bits for people on this thread

I'M GOING HOME!!!!!! wehayyyy!!!!!!!

see ya!

PurlyQueen · 19/09/2007 16:21

I'm feeling at bit more with peace at the world today.

Delighted to say that I had my nuchal fold scan this morning and the sonographer couldn't see any problems - just waiting for the results of the blood test now. The baba was too relaxed for the sonographer to take proper measurements so I had to drink a can of Coke and go for a walk to wake it up!

And I've been moved from Northwick Park to the Brent Birthing Centre for my antenatal appointments and for the birth itself.

I know that NP has had loads of money and extra staff, but my booking-in appointment was too chaotic. They were supposed to do the nuchal scan there but ran out of slots.

In contrast there was a real feeling of calm efficiency about the midwife-led Brent Birthing Centre.

HolidaysQueen · 19/09/2007 16:36

Great news on scan and on birthing centre, PurlyQueen I too want the birthing centre at my hospital rather than the actual hospital bit, but they haven't asked me yet...

PurlyQueen · 19/09/2007 16:49

I had to book myself in.

My GP didn't tell me about the birthing centre, partly because I think there's a question mark about whether the healthcare trust will fund it next year because its under used (probably because no-one knows about it).

I only found out about the centre because that's where I had to have my nuchal blood test. Once I was inside the centre I just felt like 'I want to be looked after here'.

PurlyQueen · 19/09/2007 17:45

PS: if anyone is looking for cheap bump bands, I'm buying up any boob tubes that I see in sale bins. Primark in Kilburn are selling theirs off for £1. Dorothy Perkins have cut the price of theirs too.

imjin100 · 19/09/2007 17:47

goodness me there has been a lot of chat today, firstly congrats on the two scans PUrlyqueen and Rachelposs although sorry we'll be losing you to another thread!
As for all the clobber being discussed, am now totally terrified and I'm with monthlymahem - can we have a list of all the right things nearer the time!?! First time nerves could mean I end up with nothing!! Infact both sister and SIL giving us most stuff I think which means not a lot to do, bar the pram bit which leaves me totally daunted so far. I shall wait instructions and will most certainly be doing whatever you guys are doing!
hope you all have nice evenings, I'm finally getting over the flu and now just have a stinky cold which is easier to handle. Might even eat some supper tonight which will be nice.
love to you all

MerlinsBeard · 19/09/2007 17:55
