Just been to the doctors and everything is ok. He had a dopler so I got to hear the heartbeat. Was all emotional when I heard it.

Mods good luck today!

On the itchy debate, my hands are dryer than normal and I keep applying cream but doesn't seem to be working. Have been applying bio oil, but as I am prone to stretch marks I don't think I will get away scotfree.

I found the programme yesterday very interesting. I felt so sorry for the parents not being able to cuddle their babies, that is so mean. Made DP watch it as well.

my1stbaby · 26/09/2007 11:29

Hi all. Hope everyone's all right.

Thanks HQ and merryberry for your support re. job. Am feeling slightly better about it even though had a sleepless night. It's our 1st baby and we have no idea how financially stretched we would be but I guess we will make do. You always do don't you? I will not get any redundacy pay as working part-time for this company. I'm just hoping will have the work for another month at least while they go through the hand-over period. We'll see...

On a happier note, just added my name to the EDD table and noticed have the same EDD as you e14mum . Is that right?

I have an appointment to see an obstetrician this afternoon as pg is now classed as high risk . Anyway, should be interesting. Not sure what we'll discuss tough but will find out soon enough I guess

x

Only just realised that you still accrue holiday during maternity leave! Hurrah!

OP posts:
imjin100 · 26/09/2007 11:49

hello all, have been reading but not posting much recently but glad all well....MODS hope it is ok when you see the doctor and Brazilianmum - a little envious of your heartbeat listen but great news- hurray for the little heart beats.
Myfirstbaby, sorry to hear things at work aren't good and I hope you get it sorted. what bummer, and an added stress you could do without - good luck with the doctors.
Glad everyone in similar position with the itchiness - I just thought it was me but obviously not!
I cycled to work today - very cold and I think that could be the last time for a while. I don't really have a bump but I'm begining to realise at 16+5 that it isn't just me involved in london traffic any more. My DH hates it and should anything happen it would be made worse by the fact he has asked me to stop I think...so it's the bus and a walk for me from here on...after 7years on a bike I shall miss it, but not the rotten weather!
Managed a trip to the gym today which I enjoyed, have been trying to do Davina's dvd too - which is lovely I think - gentle but effective. Thanks to Holidays Queen for the info on that one! I hope I'll get into a routine and do it later one too...putting on my determined face about not putting on stone after stone...!!

e14mum · 26/09/2007 11:56

Hi my1st- the scan has told me the 9th, but I'm easy. V. happy to be EDD buddies with you
Brazilianmum- also v. envious you got to hear heartbeat. Yesterday's appt was so flustered with having to take all my bloods again that none of that happened! I hope it will next week though.
Turtle23- Accrued holiday is fantastic, isn't it? I'm planning on using all of mine up at the beginning of mat leave as I'll be gone over a cross-over (ours starts in October) and will start accruing again then!

my1stbaby · 26/09/2007 12:01

oh just realised that I will lose half of my maternity pay as well . What a bummer . Guess I don't have to worry about maternity leave now... x

my1stbaby · 26/09/2007 12:04

e14mum remembered you did mention the 9th but thought it's been changed to the 10th. But 9th s close enough to 10th .

Wondering whether we'll be able to get the consultant to listen for beanie's heartbeat today . Would be nice to know that it's all ok. Might ask if he doesn't offer x

PinkMartini · 26/09/2007 12:21

Wow you've all been busy again. I've been really busy last couple of days though I went to Dorothy Perkins and bought loads of really nice maternity tops in the sale. One top was only £4.

My1stbaby what rotten luck. but glad you're able to be

So is the meet up now the 6th and not the 13th at all?

Can anyone suggest a bar for my dh's birthday?

derah · 26/09/2007 14:45

(peers shyly around door).... um, is it just me or is anyone else slightly intimidated by how Yummy Mummy this thread has got with talk of £700 buggies and expensive stretch mark cream! I feel like a right country bumpkin!

imjin100 · 26/09/2007 14:55

derah I'm with you - but not just for the expense involved but the fact that people are already planning which buggy...any minute now I'll switch on to find you've put your every so little LO down to local schools....not wishing to stop anyone of course but I am SO far from being in place to discuss that kind of stuff!

As for expensive creams -a friend just gave me some oil - from the chemist, definitely not expensive. Frankly I think it's just about cream/oil and doesn't really matter what sort it is.

merryberry · 26/09/2007 15:17

saw a prog where they tested stretch mark creams once, and palmer's one came out tops, with caveat that if you get em, you get em!

better get ds up now. i have a bit of a headcold but with a spectral sounding cough, and this is what is sounds like in our house:

merryberry: ?COUGH coughcough COUGH?
DS stares at me
DS: ?COUGH COUGH? (sounds like fake death rattle)
DS: ?Poor poor DS! COUGH COUGH HACK?

imjin100 · 26/09/2007 15:20

keep meaning to say for the larger boobed ladies amongst us, (if I remember rightly there are a few of us abou!) A friend of mine used Bravado++ after her baby but really wished she had discovered them whilst preganant for sleeping and stuff. Anyway - I've just ordered on, will let you know what it's like but thought I must share the knowledge.
happy days to all, freezing in London today - feels like winter is here. My bike ride home could be a chilly one.

e14mum · 26/09/2007 15:24

Ahhh... but it's your last one imjin! Enjoy!

imjin100 · 26/09/2007 15:28

e14 you are so right and perhaps the worse the ride home the better so I don't miss it on the hot, steamy and rather slow bus tomorrow morning!

wendyredhead · 26/09/2007 15:36

Just to say hello again & hope you're surviving pregnancy after a MN break when I realised I was becoming attached to my PC and nothing else was getting done!! I've had my scan and all's well so far...14 weeks now.

Does anyone know why I am producing so much wind? Is my diet totally to blame?!! Any suggestions would be great as it's painful at times.

Interesting prog that last night - think I did a bit of all 3 methods with my first son and he turned out just great and slept through the night regularly even though (naughty me!) put him to bed when he was fast asleep. So I don't think it's true that you have to put them to bed when they're still awake so they "learn" to fall asleep on their own as he never had any problems.

gingercat12 · 26/09/2007 15:38

Sorry for disappearing. Work is quite hectic. Hope everyone is fine [waving madly]

Been to see MW, and heard v strong HB. It made my day!!!! Although it tried to hide, the little naughty, but MW hunted it down And I did not have to stand on the scales, because I look 'spot on' as MW said. {She might have just been polite.}

As far as stretchmark creams are concerned, I can still only use fragrance free ones. When will I have normal sense of smell again?!

wendyredhead · 26/09/2007 15:39

What - £700 on a pram - is there such a pram that costs so much? Surely nobody would pay that sort of money...I know I'd rather spend my dosh on better things and a sling is much, much cheaper! Anyway my mind isn't at that stage quite yet.

glammama · 26/09/2007 15:55

Hello all,
Meryberry, I agreeabout the baby rearing techniques, I seem to remember doing Continuim stuff at the beginning, then gradually going to a routine by way of cuddles and naps. Seemed to work for us. I think having confidence in your abilities is the most important thing. I had a bit of a grr moment when Continuim woman said Breastfeeding only hurts if you're doing it wrong, which imho is a bit black and white and there are other reasons why breastfeeding doesn't work for some mums and babies. And I'm not saying that because I have an axe to grind, I breastfed DD until I went back to work when she was 7 months.
I've been using a bit of Nivea on my tummy area so no expensive creams for me either, sadly. I never liked the smell of The Palmers stuff so I might just get some bog standard cocoa butter, or maybe Astral might work? I love Astral

I;m so tired at the moment. My GP wanted me to take this week off work as I've had what I will politely call an upset stomach for approx 2 months now. I said I was too busy so he's making me come back next Monday. I have such a dilemma, should I let him sign me off and risk getting stressed about missing work or should I just muddle through? This decision is not helping my poor digestive system. I thought it was pregnancy related but apparently not. What should I do?

e14mum · 26/09/2007 16:02

Glammama- what will stress you out less? I think you probably need a break... to relax and get better. Or can you reduce your hours or work from home?

derah · 26/09/2007 16:17

Thanks for the bra advice Imjin, I'll check it out.

Which reminds me, I've been meaning to tell you that I discovered the Miriam Stoppard bra range in Debenhams on Monday, and there's a wonderful soft maternity bra which is a cross between a regular bra and a crop top. Called the Nurture. I bought two and they're wonderful.

I also got my winter coat from Primark. It's a wool mix, and really flares out from just under the boobs, front and back, so I could keep a baby elephant under there if I had to. Lovely stuff!!

my1stbaby · 26/09/2007 16:30

Hi! Me again!

Is there no end to my tales of woe this week?? Found out at obstetrician app today that I have protein in my urine. He seems quite concerned and that's making me a bit worried. Should I panic? Anybody else had this experience from previous pregnancy? He's sending me off for more tests. Arghhhh!!!!

Anyhow great news is, I heard the beanie's heartbeat . Was shocked at how loud it was. Seems pretty fast but was not told how fast it was. Didn't get to hear the heartbeat at the nuchal scan so this was definitely a bonus

derah thanks for tip on coat from primark. Am looking to buy one soon and want to spend as little money as possible. I'll check it out this weekend. Might even pop in to debenhams to look at the bra . Need a proper one soon as breast is starting to droop and getting a bit too big for my normal ones.

As to stretch marks, I'm only using cocoa butter one from superdrug. Is it any good you think? Cant afford anything expensive though, so guess it will have to do . x

turtle23 · 26/09/2007 19:02

If it makes anyone feel better about the yummy mummy direction things may have gone... I just bought 4 pairs of sweet dungarees in different colours from Oxfam for 60p each, 5 pairs scratch mits for 50p (total) from Sainsbury's and baby hat from Wilkinson for 79p. Does that mean I'm on the other end of the scale at scummy mumy? lol!

yardette · 26/09/2007 19:15

hi everyone. been lurking for a bit, but not had much time to post. (And i'll whisper quietly that i'm also slightly intimidated by all the talk of using copious amounts of expensive stretch creams and buggies... I'm so not ready for choosing buggies, car seats, cots and other equipment yet!! I'm still getting over the idea that i'm actually pregnant with twins!!)

that programme last night left me and DH reeling in horror. all the methods are so extreme - am I wrong in thinking that people just muddle their way through doing a bit of routine, a bit of flexibility and lots of cuddles? I'll hopefully try and get some routine going, because they're twins more than anything, but i'm not really a routine type of person at the moment, so i don't know how i'll get on.

take care all - hope your'e doing okay modsaluk

merryberry · 26/09/2007 19:22

the palmer's stretch cream doesn't smell over-sweet like the rest of their range does

ellehcim · 26/09/2007 19:40

Ooo I love the Palmers Cocoa Butter smell. Its like covering yourself in white chocolate! Slapped it on with both of mine and not a stretch mark in sight - (although I understand whether you get them or not is hereditary and purely dependent on your skin type)
