i am amazed at that Suey this whole convo haqs had me lost.

suey2 · 14/09/2007 17:07

no sorry. answer is tan 90 x 25, answer in cm.
the workings are:
right angled triangle. we know the adjacent, we want the opposite. the right angle is between the opposite and adjacent sides. as tan of an angle is the opposite over the adjacent (sohcahtoa anyone?)that means that:
tan90 = o / 25
therefore o = tan 90 x 25

(where did that come from? i left school 20 yrs ago!)

Not good enough Suey - how dare you get it wrong. Wrapped knuckles for you.

On the subject of schools, does anyone watch schools out on saturday nights??

becklespeckle · 14/09/2007 17:12

I used to love maths at school, particularly trig and algebra! Can't remember a bit of it now though!
Finally got to speak to my MW this afternoon! I am popping in to see her on Monday morning to collect my MATB1, apparently they like to see you, and also fill out more paperwork for the maternity exemption certificate again (mine hasn't arrived for some reason!). I spoke briefly to her about hip/pelvis pain and she says it is likely to be SPD causing it and she will give me a leaflet on things I can do to ease it. She said that everything will be much weaker this time as I have had 2 big babies and am likely to be having a 3rd big one (there's something to look forward to!). She also said the pressure is probably causing the swelling below too although that could be varicose veins (nice!).

mixedmama · 14/09/2007 17:21

hated Maths, loved French, History and english. My French teacher used to let me teach the class and my history teacher made me sit at the back cos she said I gave her evil looks when she went off tangent talking about Eastenders or something... I used to get to read out loud all the time in English.... one of my fave things, so always got to be the best people if we were doing a play Juliet, lady Macbeth, frankensteins monster.

Maths just went way way over my head as did science altho just managed to get by in that.

And, do not let me start on PE.

becklespeckle · 14/09/2007 17:30

I loved English, Science and History as well as Maths. I always enjoyed things like CDT and Art but was never much good at them! As for PE...
I am the girl who was so badly co-ordinated that during tennis lessons I was made to bat the ball against a wall to practice hitting it...I spent most of the time running to get the ball when I missed it! Long distance running was the only bit I was any good at!

suey2 · 14/09/2007 17:33

LOVED maths physics chemistry music art PE
HATED french english history etc.
I am sure it hugely depends on teachers though

OP posts:
becklespeckle · 14/09/2007 17:47

I think you're right Suey - I had an awful Music teacher at Upper School so despite loving music I dropped the subject as soon as I could.
I then decided to learn to play the Saxophone privately instead (not that I am fabulous at it, I just enjoy it when I get the time!)

Housemum · 14/09/2007 17:55

Hi all - still haven't got back into Mumsnet yet after hols - am hopeless! Skim-read bits of this, sorry to hear of all the bits on the other thread getting out of hand! Lists are good - I like lists!

Tip from someone who got it wrong before (this may be repeating someone else) - do put yours and baby stuff in 2 separate bags, poor DH was flapping around trying to extricate babygrows from bras! This time, I'm going to put a nappy, vest and sleepsuit at the top of the bag, with the spares packed underneath (Mum treated me to a GORGEOUS new changing bag which is much nicer than the freebie I had from Boots Baby Club last time!)

I used some arnica tablets from the homeopathy bit in Boots last time - don't know if they worked or not but I didn't have too much pain from bruising/stitching so I've bought some for this time too. They are really tiny and taste like sugar, Boots own brand in a blue tube.
Have a change of clothes and pack of huge maternity towels, breastpads and spare knickers at the top of your bag ready for afterwards.

Saw midwife yesterday - the third one in as many appointments!!! First one left, someone else was there at the next app't - this one says she is the new one for my surgery but we'll wait and see if she's there next month!!

Baby is exactly where I thought she(?) was - head down, back towards my right hand side. I have a very lopsided bump at times! She did say that at this stage if it's head-down it's v unlikely to turn upside down as there's getting to be less room so that's one hurdle crossed!

Housemum · 14/09/2007 17:58

Becklespeckle - I was the hopelessly unco-ordinated one too - if it came to picking teams, I was always one of the last alongside the girl who had joint problems and couldn't run and the girl with the BO problem! Funnily enough, I started playing squash before I got pg and was getting to be OK so perhaps it was just a huge lack of confidence (or that I now have the right prescription contact lenses!)

becklespeckle · 14/09/2007 18:13

Hehe Housemum! I was always the last picked too and my co-ordination has never improved!
Give me complex Algebra and Shakespeare over a tennis racket or football any day!
Strangely I can cycle, dance and rollerskate well - I think it is just my hand/eye (or foot/eye) co-ordinateion which is so bad!

Loucee · 14/09/2007 19:51

Well done Housemum at reminding me to post a question about the strength of arnica to take. With DD I took 30c but my sister was told to get 200c from her alternative therapist (who she saw once to get a labour and birth prep). I'll post on the pregnancy forum unless anyone knows here?

I loved PE, CDT, Latin, Maths and Science at school, totally agree with whoever said it has a lot to do with your teacher of each subject. Most impressed with your equation Suey2

DH is out tonight so I'm getting cosey with a bar of dark chocolate and the remote control - what's everyone else doing tonight/this weekend?

insywinsyspider · 14/09/2007 20:14

been reading the posts from today and am going to be incredibly geeky and sad now (sorry) suey tan 90 = infinity.... had a look at problem and there aren't enough variables to get a definative answer although you can calculate you need to be 3x from post A and therefore 4x from post B for them to appear the same height...

as for weekend plans - double buggy hunting! on a mission to try out as many as possible with ds in tow and make a desicion! as for tonight dh is cooking a curry, hmmm it smells lovely - how about everyone else?

Loucee · 14/09/2007 20:50

insy, I've just been looking at doubles on the net.

I didn't know Phil and Ted do a side by side double. The iCandy double is interesting and the moutain urban looks great!
Trying to find online reviews and find a shop where I can try them all out. Didn't realise there was so much choice!

Bouncingturtle · 14/09/2007 20:58

Loucee - we'd decided on the phil and teds and then I realised how many others were out there, I have to say tho I haven't found anyone to say anything bad about the phil and teds, I've also taken to stopping people with double buggys and asking whether they'd recommend them slightly easier to justify now I have a huge bump! everyone says don't get a side by side for going shopping tho...

just looked at bturtles list - isn't weird how we have majority boys at the beginning of the month and then girls at the end

BeachBunni · 14/09/2007 22:26

Evening all!! I'm obviously not on here often enough anymore, but I'll just add myself in anyway. Never seem to get the time these days to get on the computer.

Had a nightmare day today. My mw said my fundal height is nowhere near where it should be and sent me straight up to the hospital for a growth scan. Me and dp were both nervous wrecks. Got scanned and everything is ok - combination af baby lying sideways and me being quite tall. It was horrible though - my first of many scares I'm sure along the path of motherhood!

Just adding myself in, to help even up the expected sexes! I have another consultant appoitment next week, so I might find out what shape my dodgy mended pelvis is in. Ive had to see the physio about pain in it but apparantly the pain is all to do with pregnancy (sacro iliac joint) not the break. Not convinced as it is the same place/side as I broke it.

will confine myself to things I may have learnt within the last 20 years- I hope my LO doesn't ask lots of difficult questions! (as if)

Insy - I hadn't noticed that!
Beachbunni - noticed you hadn't posted, in case you missed my last post, Ikea are opening a store in Belfast in December - is that any good to you? There aren't that many stores in England, tbh, if you came across to Liverpool on the ferry your nearest store would be Manchester!

claraq · 15/09/2007 09:27

Morning anyone who is around today. Just come on to find a recipe for apple and blackberry crumble, had a quick look in here and find myself having heart palpatations at the talk of maths and pythagarus (sp?) theory. Oh BAD BAD memories for me.

I am also interested in the fact that all the boys seem to be at the beginning of the month and the girls at the end. Does this mean I am having a boy? Most people seem to think so because of the way I am carrying (which is all rubbish). But my friend last night told me to find out the heartbeat rate as a slower one is meant to be a boy and vice versa. Will try this at next antenatal...

mixedmama · 15/09/2007 12:59

Hola ladies....

Just wanted to say hi and add myself to the list now we know the flavour.

Have to say completely agree with the whole teacher thing.... I was really good at German top of the class and so selected it for GCSE and got the most god awful teacher ever and and lost interest completely.

As the NW Ikea queen, the closest Ikea to Liverpool is Warrington, It's choc-ful of scousers every weekend!! There is a new one opened up the other side of Manchester, in Ashton, but Warrington is def closer to the coast, though don't envy driving back to NI to find you're missing a couple of screws!!! I love Ikea, the nursery furniture is great value and very cute. my big prob with the store is that you have to go all the way round even if you just want some cutlery which is near the end!! (although I've managed to memorise and find the short cuts now) Ok so now I sound very sad, but my excuse is that I have a gay BF, he's the addicted one, we've renamed it Iqueer cos it's an ideal cruising ground apparently.

Ambi · 15/09/2007 13:46

I just can't help reading the due in sept, it's so damned gripping. Labour/BH/babies popping, not so long for us really is it? We're already halfway through sept, where's the time frigging going, fab isn't it.

My due date is only 11 weeks off now
