claireybee - your dd is sooo gorgeous - I had a look the other day when someone else said they'd looked and when I saw your message I couldn't help myself having another little peek!!

I also have slept with my dd and I have to admit that I love it and don't really understand when parents want their babies out of the room/bed asap. She is now sleeping through every night and often wakes up after I get up and I really miss having a morning/middle of the night cuddle

I agree about the books all saying different things but I still like to have a look at the advice and then make up my own mind

Neuro · 26/09/2007 15:53

I watched that prog and also felt very sorry for the couple who had to leave their baby to cry. I found the programme frustrating as i thought it was more about sensationalism and pitching the women against each other, than actual baby handling/training skills. But that's the style of progs these days innit?
I thought it was quite anti-sisterhood in general.

I thought the severe one had horrible hair and a big shiny face. And who in their right minds esp after all the Madelaine McCann stuff is going to leave their baby unguarded outside? NO WAY. She could've suggested mother and baby (father and baby) going for a nice brisk walk and everyone getting health benefits from that.

Anyway, i'm rambling. I can't wait to kiss and cuddle my baby but i'm also looking forward to doing my hobbies again and THEN going home to my hatchling.

Neuro · 26/09/2007 15:54

P.s. It got me really excited about having a baby though all over again. CAN'T 'WAIT. I think i write that on here every week though.

Beanstermummy · 26/09/2007 16:06

afternoon peeps. Have been away for what seems like ages but only a week or so. Spent a week on Colonsay - one of the hebrides (western Isles) of Scotland - bugger all to do there but sleep and let Grandparents look after DD1 and DH get his mountain biking out of his system! All pretty jolly really - but realised just how good it is to chill a bit and not be working flat out 5 days a week - doubting I'll last until 2nd Nov now but we shall wait and see.

Started trying to read all I've missed but my brain hurts now and I only got to last Wed!! Hope you are all ok - suey2 - how is the Gest Diabetes thing looking? Those with spd - crap isn't it. Mine seems worse some days but okay the day - very dependant on what I'm doing and how much sleep I have managed (pretty obvious really). Just wondering now when it goes away after the birth? Is a CS better if it gets really bad? On that topic, MW has confirmed no problem me going for VBAC - following last times 9cm then CS after all anyway!!!!! but they won't let me dawdle around at all - no induction or the like. Feeling more positive about it anyway - after all the idea for me to stay healthy and Button to arrive into this mad world of ours all happy and safe too - how we get there is anyones guess

Anyway - I'm back around now and counting down rapidly

skidaddle · 26/09/2007 16:50

hi beanster and welcome back! Glad you had a nice holiday and hope doing all the childcare yourself isn't too exhausting now that you're back. My DH is also a fanatical mountain biker, sometimes I feel like a mountain bike widow although I prefer that to an X-box widow or whatever they call them

Now there's a good idea for giving your baby lots of fresh air but not shutting them out of the house by themselves - a nice healthy bike ride - although maybe not with a newborn who can't sit yet... ah well, back to the drawing board...

suey2 · 26/09/2007 16:59

Hi beanstermummy- don't know about the GD for a few days. I am still hoping that the first test was an abhorration. I have only put on 2 lbs in last 4 weeks and since I had put on 10lb in the previous 3, and just after that i was tested, I am hoping that that was why my pancreas was a little challenged. (Twas a lovely holiday, though.)
Pecka I saw your other thread. I have had no symptoms to speak of, or at least nothing particularly. I mean I think my energy goes up and down much more and I feel blood sugar highs and lows much more than pre preg, but I have put that down to having to eat more and often reaching for the biscuit tin. None of the rabid thirst (although i am drinking a lot of water, but then i have always drunk at least 4 pints a day). All of my wee tests have been clear too. And I ahve no family history and am not obese. My only risk factor is being over 35.
I only found out about it after my routine lucozade test results came back. (26 week test) Don't know when you are due, but if you have had that test, and it hasn't come up, you must be ok.

Housemum : thanks for the link to the tens hire - it's been on my list for a while, and that looks like a very good deal indeed.

thelady · 26/09/2007 18:32

Oh, and in response to your bump size, housemum:

I'm normally a 16/18, and at 30 weeks I'm 44 - 44 - 44!

Caz10 · 26/09/2007 20:52

Hi all!

Just been reading through all the threads I've missed...v at work for taking me away from MN!

Did watch that programme last night though and wanted to smack Mrs Strict Nanny quite often! Surely there is middle ground between her and the tribal woman? That is my hope anyway!

Re BH contractions - this is my 1st pg so not sure, but every so often my bump goes ROCK hard and not exactly sore, but tight - is that one? Also getting freaked out by how close Bump seems to be to the surface of my skin - all sorts of lumpy bumpy bits poke through every so often and I feel like he/she may burst out of the front!

Think I will just order that Tens machine just now - thanks to whoever posted the link! At the start of this pregnancy I was spending hours web-researching every small product, determined to get the best value, best product etc, now I just feel like I'm running out of time and am grabbing things like supermarket sweep!

All going to plan I will have 2 weeks off before due date, but surely won't feel like shopping by then? And what if LO comes early...EEK!!!

Suey hope you got on ok at hospital. Clairybee how cute is your DD?! Beautiful!! Thelady, we got the same re car seat when we opted for black, the salesperson was like "but it comes in pretty colours..."!

Housemum · 26/09/2007 23:04

Caz - yep, the BH contractions are what makes the bump go hard - and don't worry about the lumpy bumpy bits (must just mean you aren't as fat as some of us ) I have occasionally felt what might be a heel or knee when I've been lying in bed, very freaky but rest assured you're not going to recreate the scene from Alien!

Do get some preparation done before 38 weeks! I am a sad muppet and like packing bags, so both times mine were pretty much packed from 33 weeks, first time round because I was so excited about packing a special bag, second time round because the first one arrived at 33 weeks! (Second was pretty much on time, just a couple of weeks early).

Have had my pram out in the back garden today - it's a second-hand old-fashioned Silver Cross, but it has that "charity shop" smell about it - that slightly musty smell? I've washed the plastic inside out with Dettol to be on the safe side, and washed the outside with washing-up liquid. Smell is getting fainter but will try to get it aired as much as poss before the weather turns! Just need to get a mattress for it now.

Bouncingturtle · 27/09/2007 07:50

Housemum - I've had the same thing, my bump goes hard and uncomfortable, I didn't realise that this was BH - I imagined they be more like period cramps! Been having them for a least a week, and it seems to get worse as the day progresses - I just put it down to tiredness and soreness due to not lying down!!

suey2 · 27/09/2007 08:03

have to go to another glamorous wedding. Wait for it- end of november! Fortunately in London. But, found a maternity glamorous dress hire online store here
looks pretty groovy!

Morning all
Hope you are well.
Sorry - haven't caught up with latest postings, just feeling so awful with an upset stomach and awful cramps. Was up most of the night to and fro-ing from the bathroom.
.

suey2 · 27/09/2007 09:02

poor you motherofZ, it is really bloody miserable at times, eh?
Admit to having black bags this morning after not sleeping since around 4. Will have to go to separate bedrooms I think

Loucee · 27/09/2007 09:20

Morning everyone

Mixedmama sorry you're feeling unwell, are you at home today? Try and drink plenty to keep yourself hydrated.

Anyone with current little ones, are you planning to keep them in any childcare whilst you're on mat leave or after the baby is born? I'm unsure about going back to work but will lose my place at the childminder if I take DD out completely. Was thinking of reducing it to two mornings a wk (Tues and Thurs) to keep her place as Tues-Thurs are the most popular times at our CM and we had to go on a waiting list to get those.

I'm really excited, we've booked onto a hypnobirthing course. DH needed some convincing but I am desperate to give anything a shot that might help me stay more in control during labour and birth. Does anyone have any experience of it here?

Wish me luck - I'm off to the scary loft, is it just me who's scared of going up there?!

buzzybee · 27/09/2007 09:39

Well I'm 40, 44, 43 now so my bump looks huge! Keep having people ask when I'm due who then try and swallow their surprise when I tell them 3 months yet...I'm normally a fairly standard size 14 but am very tall (6 foot).

Just had MW here. Fundal height 30 but am 28 weeks so that's on the big side apparently. HB 134 and BP 110/60 which is actually low so nothing to worry about there. She thinks baby is head down. Came away with a clutch of forms - one for my employer to say due date, one for 30 week blood test and one for follow up ultrasound scan to check kidneys again.

Also asked about birthing pool and their MW practice has three they lend to clients so looks like I will get one of those. Still hoping for a homebirth.

MW visits every 2 weeks now which is scary - although haven't booked the next one in until I know when the scan will be as good to have it straight after that.

mixedmama · 27/09/2007 09:44

Morning...

MotherofZ - go home, seriously not worth being there, be well for DD at the weekend.

hey to everyone....

insywinsyspider · 27/09/2007 09:54

loucee - we've decided to keep ds with the childminder 4 days a week till xmas and then two days a week in the new year, I can't decide which days tho as I keep looking around and seeing lots of exciting toddler groups to take him too! I'm sure I won't feel like that after baby gets here so I'm thinking wed, thurs at the moment - cm has said she'll wait for us to say which days and then advertise to fill in the remaining space, this baby is already on her list in case I decide to go back to work and I know I'd do either mon-wed or tues-thurs so I can give her some idea....
no idea about hypobirthing but home birth support group mums were raving about it so its worth a shot

buzzy - glad its not just me that people don't believe when I say I have 12 wks to go! good news on everything at appointment tho, our fortnightly appointments don't start till after 32 wks - not much in it but feels like ages!

mixedmama · 27/09/2007 10:01

Loucee - DS is with family for childcare at the moment but hoping to get him some nursery time for messy play and friends etc ASAP. He will only be going maybe twice a week so I will just keep this up.

Loucee · 27/09/2007 10:03

Sorry MotherofZ and Mixedmama for getting the two of you confused.

Loucee · 27/09/2007 10:16

back from the loft - I survived! . Got all the newborn stuff down to sort out then put in cupboard until nearer the time when I'll wash them.

Insy, yep we've also put new baby onto the CM's books for Dec 08/Jan 09 - better to do that rather than be faced with them not having two places.
Mean to ask you Insy, when your DS is in the front toddler seat on the P&T, is his head right up by the hood? Tried DD in it and she was peering out trying to lift the hood back..worried she might be a bit claustrophobic when the rain cover is on? Wish I would just make my mind up about the pram but having seen the P&T Twin it's added a spanner to the works!

Mixedmam, when your DS goes to a nursery will he still go to inlaws as well? That should help you with the inlaw situation and not having DS home until late as is the case now.

Please don't shout at me but I feel really Christmassy today! THink it was the light frost we had overnight, it's all crispy and I've just seen the decorations up in the loft.

buzzybee · 27/09/2007 10:17

Loucee - am lucky in that DD is at school now so not planning to change her care arrangements. Am hoping to get a nanny though for 30 hours per week quite early on to help out with school pick-ups etc. have applied to a local school of nannies for a nanny in training (they do 6 month family placements as part of the training course) which is a cheats way of getting a "cheap" nanny. Of course they're not fully trained or experienced but as I will be at home for at least the first 2 months we have the nanny I figure that should be OK. After that will have to decide whether to stay with a nanny arrangement or use childcare as I did for DD (from 4 months in her case).

Suey if it makes you feel any better have had LO's "name" down at the best local childcare centre for about 2 months now. Don't think I'd consider Pimlico School an option either if we were still living there! Where are you booked for ante-natal classes? We went to a private class in Chelsea with 5 other couples 3 weekends in a row which was really nice. Only option actually as the free public ones were only held at 2pm in the afternoon which was not much good for me and even worse for DD's father.

suey2 · 27/09/2007 10:26

HI Buzzy,
Sounds like we are having the same experience with our first child!
I am going to a private NCT class starting in 4 weeks time- i think it is somewhere around worlds end on the kings road. I will also be doing the NHS one as i will be off by then and would at least like to see the facilities at the C&W. DH is coming to the NCT evening sessions.

OP posts:
mixedmama · 27/09/2007 10:29

Loucee - well not entirely sure. Since I am at home I dont particularly want tohave to be a whole day (8.30 - 9.00) without him when i could be looking after him myself. I am trying to get into sending him on Fridays ATM as I am working really hard to get a good established sleep routine and it really interferes. I am thinking to stop the weekdays when i am on mat leave and DH can take him when he is off on Sundays for the afternoon or whatever.

insywinsyspider · 27/09/2007 10:45

Loucee - yes his head is quite high when in P&T but it doesn't touch the top I have to admit I haven't tried it with the rain cover, lady in shop pointed out it was a problem with the buggy - he's also not keen to sit in the toddler seat when its so high I'm just going to go with it because it'll only be in that set up for about 6 mo so will be using a combination of P&T as a double and sling and single P&T - I just found it so much more movable than others and because we use it round town I couldn't have coped with a twin side by side in and out of shops
good luck with the decision making - its a nightmare!
