New thread for us all to keep in touch. Think we're all nearing the end of the first trimester or dipping our toes into the second ... how far we've come since the days of agonising over stims!

Hey @Wimbledon1. Good weekend here, had heartbeat check plus urine and swabs with the midwife today (for consultant) and relieved to hear baby seems okay. My scan is next tuesday.

I've managed to keep off seraphine despite loving all of their stuff! But did order a few tops from jojo maman bebe today. I have some leggings from Love Leggings and they are absolutely fab.

Def experiencing similar when I need a wee. There is NO waiting anymore - when I need to go I NEED to go and it is really painful. Not painful as I wee, feels muscular so think it is ligaments. If there are two of us then we can't be that unusual lol.

WorriedButterfly · 17/05/2020 20:36

I bought the polka dot blouse from seraphine - as my 'going out blouse' little did I know....I still wear it in front of the mirror sometimes! I also bought some skinny jeans from there which I love. Hope it's going well, when is your scan?

Also yes to the bladdery type pain - I have also been tested and it was negative, I'm still getting it on and off at 26 wks, just another joy I think! (I have seen some people say it's when the baby is putting pressure down there) x

FlapJackered · 17/05/2020 22:07

@Wimbledon1 YES to seraphine! It's dangerous! I have already got their Jeans, a jumper, leggings and a shawl/cardigan thing 🙈. I have now managed to stop myself spending any more there as it's not cheap. They did have a 30% off sale though hence the splurge!
I have my scan on Friday 😬 slightly terrified despite having our NIPT not that long ago.

I am also with you on the bladder issues!
Slight TMI but does anyone find you feel like you're really desperate for the loo and then not that much comes out and it's v slow 😂

@Viletta sorry to hear you've suffered a bit with the headaches too. Unfortunately mine have been constant for over a month so I don't think it's the weather and I am drinking loads. The midwife says it's normal for some people and it's just the change in hormones having a bad effect on me. Good tip on the hot water bottle, I will definitely try that! Hopefully they will bugger off soon!
Good luck for the scan tomorrow!! 🤞

FlapJackered · 17/05/2020 22:09

Meant to say, my sister just had her baby and had the dream birth. She said she thought the Positive Birth Company hypnobirthing online course really helped so I am definitely going to do that.

Chooklass · 18/05/2020 09:29

I've had the achey bladder thing too! Was also worried about UTI but now feels more like ligament/ muscular pain.

I've also heard good things from a couple of friends about the positive birth company @FlapJackered, so will definitely be checking that out. Some bits are quite 'woo' apparently, but easy to ignore if that's not your thing! My midwife actually recommended their birth plan as being better than the no-frills NHS one!

My scan is next week. Starting to feel a bit anxious but feeling movements calms me down a lot. It feels like it's getting a stronger kick on it!

@FlapJackered, @Chooklass

Friends have mentioned good things about The Positive Birth Company programme. I figure even if a few things are a bit too ‘out there’ for most there will always be the odd nugget to takeaway that may help so I plan to give it a go too!

@Wimbledon1 yes to Seraphine! When daydreaming about being pregnant in years gone by I mentally planned my work and event wardrobe from there... don’t suppose there will be much need for anything too smart now things are as they are but still plan to get a few nice dresses from there. I’ve also got my eye on JoJo with H&M and New Look for some more affordable bits when the time comes. I’m still in my normal clothes for now, albeit with a hair band holding my jeans together Confused.

Lily999 · 18/05/2020 11:43

Morning! Congrats to your sister @FlapJackered!!

@Wimbledon1 Yes to the pain if I don't go straight away, then I do pay the price for it for sure..

@Flapjackered As for the TMI question I did have that, last time at the midwife actually when I was holding it so I would be able to provide a urine sample, then got the holder, went to the loo and had barely anything, it was bad. I showed up embarrassed saying I can't give more, luckily they managed to do the tests from that little..

Ok, I know it can be normal not to feel any movements, but I will be 18weeks the day after tomorrow and still nothing :( As it's me obviously I am concerned. Anyone else with no movements at 18weeks? Not even things I could question. :(

I also had my NIPT a week ago when everything was ok, but I can't shake the feeling I should be feeling at least something I could question, but nothing is going on in there.

Chooklass · 18/05/2020 12:04

I think it's normal for first timers not to feel movements until after 20 weeks @Lily999 ? Or your placenta could be in the way? It is really lovely feeling movements, but they are so sporadic early on that it just causes other forms of worry! I didn't feel it at all yesterday, cue panic, but did this morning! We're all going to worry regardless! 😂

eBay is great for maternity stuff ladies! Loads of Seraphine, JoJo, H&M etc. I prefer not to buy new for environmental reasons but it's also usually cheaper 😃. I leave in package for a few days after it arrives then put straight in wash when opened (if anyone is worried about covid risk with 2nd hand clothes).

Viletta · 18/05/2020 12:15

Hi all, we are having a little boy 💙💙💙💙 scan went really well, everything is perfect! Placenta is anterior so no wonder I didn't feel little flutters and started feeling kicks at 19w. We are so happy and relived!

@Chooklass EBay is great! I also prefer second hand stuff for environmental reasons or ethical shops.

Seraphine looks great but I think I should be good for clothes especially in summer, I've got lots of airy or stretchy tops and dresses so can't justify buying extra.. I do like their nursing skin to skin tops though!

Viletta · 18/05/2020 12:37

Oh and I also had a consultant appointment who said they trey IVF pregnancies as normal with the only exception that we can induce pretty much right away if we want to as we know the exact due date but it's up to the parents

Lily999 · 18/05/2020 14:09

Thanks for the assurance @Chooklass, I do hope it's just a delay.

Congrats @Viletta, join the club! I freaked out last week when found out we are having a boy, but by now I feel very good about it and think I will be able to bond with him just as well as I could have with a girl. :)
Hope my placenta is also anterior and that's why I am not feeling any movements at 17+5. So happy you got the assurance, that's the best feeling during the entire pregnancy!

I am not really spending on maternity clothes due to the fact that I don't need them as I only leave the house for walks and medical appointments, for those I have my sister's maternity jeans and got 2tops, that's it.

I did order 3 tops from an app called PatPat on one of my low mood days then I realised they are shipping these from the US, so it took 3,5weeks for them to arrive (got here on Saturday). I felt very silly, but it's done and I should have paid more attention. :/

Wimbledon1 · 18/05/2020 14:46

Oh congratulations @Viletta - another little boy. Brilliant! Now you can start name planning in earnest. Wonder if any of us will choose the same ones?! I'm going to try and stand by my plan of not finding out so have to do double the work on names!

Thank you everyone for the reassurance on the bladder pain and urine issues. Agree about after all that pain there's often not much there either. But doesn't sound like an issue I have if everyone has experienced the same. Just part of being pregnant!
Thanks for reassuring me I'm not the only one with a Sheraphine issue too 😂 Although good idea ladies about eBay versions.....interesting....

@Lily999 I got kicked on 18+0 and was really surprised, I thought that was pretty early! NHS and various other reputable sources say 18-22 weeks for first baby so I think it's entirely normal not to have felt anything yet. And it could even be a few weeks more so try not to worry if that is the case. The recent NICT is far more telling 😊

@WorriedButterfly my scan is next Friday. Bracing myself because I know from a previous private scan that my placenta is low lying, so going to find out the extent of that (or please god it has moved!) and if placenta previa or whatever it's called is hanging over me in the second half of pregnancy. Risk factors apparently include +35 maternal age, IVF, and drug abuse. So just the two of those for me!!

@FlapJackered congratulations on becoming an aunt! (Or were you already?) Lovely your little ones will be so close in age. Did she have a boy or girl? And when you say the dream birth, was her DP allowed in?

October2020 · 18/05/2020 14:52

@Lily999 18 weeks today and definitely no strong definitive movements. Had a few 'hmmm' moments but that could easily be gas!!!! Private scan said my placenta was at the front. Had a heartbeat check yesterday and baby fine so I am SURE we are normal. When's your scan? Mine is next Tuesday.

Lily999 · 18/05/2020 15:55

Ah, thank you @October2020, scan is on the 2nd of June, so 2weeks to go. Hope I will manage to stay sane till then. Chances are slim to none. :)

NIPT results should be back by Friday, I had my check on the 9th of May, but we are up in Scotland and it takes 2weeks to get the results, can't wait.

My bump is growing btw and I started gaining weight, so something is definitely happening to me haha!

@WorriedButterfly they never mentioned anything bout consultants, despite of being an IVF pregnancy, maybe it's too early, not sure...

FlapJackered · 18/05/2020 21:23

@Lily999 I am 20 weeks this week and I don't think I have felt anything yet, I have an anterior placenta though. Very exciting about the NIPT results, not too much longer to wait!

Congratulations @Viletta ! Fantastic news!! 💙💙

Thanks @Wimbledon1 ! I was already an Aunt but this was my sister's first, also through ivf so very special! She had a boy too. So they will be partners in crime!
Her DP was allowed in when they arrived and there for about 4 hours after. She was in labour for 8 hours of which only 3 of them were in the hospitals and had a really positive experience which is great. I just hope mine is as positive!
Sorry if you've already mentioned this but when is your 20 week scan?

The worry is starting to set in now with my scan on Friday. My heart rate has gone down which is now worrying me! I know I am just finding things to panic about though! 🙄

Viletta · 18/05/2020 21:47

@FlapJackered do you feel any movements? I've got an anterior placenta and they say that's partly why my belly sticks out and I didn't feel the flutters, just kicks.also got a whooping cough vaccine, not painful

FlapJackered · 18/05/2020 22:04

@Viletta I haven't had any movement I could say was definitely the baby. I had a weird popping feeling 3 days ago, but nothing I have noticed since then.
That is really interesting about the anterior placenta making the bump more pronounced! Hopefully that will satisfy my parents who keep commenting how big I am for 20 weeks. 🙄
Are the kicks really obvious for you now?

Viletta · 18/05/2020 22:24

@FlapJackered they are now, especially in bed after 23:00.. it wasn't easy to be sure at first though.. but I kept thinking what else could that be. I feel the movement only in my lower belly where my uterus used to be, however today at the scan she moved the scanner all the way up above my belly button. I was surprised that the baby is so high. Can't feel the movements that high I think because of the fat on my belly.

Chooklass · 19/05/2020 08:26

Interesting your uterus has moved up @Viletta - mine feels like it's done the same in the last few days! I found this illustration on line recently - it's amazing how much everything is growing in these weeks!

I like that diagram @Chooklass - it's very reassuring isn't it! (And it told me early on I was in fact just bloated from the cyclogest and not showing early!)

@FlapJackered that is really nice to have your little boys six months apart. And both IVF miracle babies. How lovely 💓 And three hours in labour in hospital really is miracle birth too!! I'm really hoping by Oct DPs will be allowed in in full, but we'll have to see.

My scan isn't until 21 weeks, so the Friday after this. I'm getting frequent and quite obvious kicking and movement now so anomalies rather than heartbeat are my main concern. Oh, and the fact that not only can I completely clearly feel him/her traversing my uterus throughout the day, DH can by putting his hand there too. Which is meant to happen after 24 weeks! So I think the chance that my placenta is still hanging out at the bottom (and so blocking my cervix) is pretty high 😬 So will be suitably nervous about that when it comes to it!!

Lily999 · 19/05/2020 15:18

So I had a call regarding my NIPT scan and was told the first blood sample didn't have enough fetal fractions so they can't test it. Now they are testing the second tube and hoping it will be over the limit. Will get the results by Friday. I am very nervous now as I was at 16weeks then so the fractions should have been way over the limit...

Generally, the fetal fraction must be above 4 percent, which typically occurs around the tenth week of pregnancy. Low fetal fractions can lead to an inability to perform the NIPT test or render a false negative result. Reasons for low fetal fractions include testing too early in the pregnancy, sampling errors, maternal obesity, and fetal abnormality.

I am not obese and it wasn't too early. :(

October2020 · 19/05/2020 15:45

Oh @Lily999. Try not to panic. The fetal abnormality bit is scary but it could easily be the 'sampling errors' one. Try not to panic (I know I would be). Holding your hand while you wait x

Chooklass · 19/05/2020 16:25

@Lily999 I know it's easy for us to say 'don't panic!' but honestly, lab/ sample errors are the most likely reason. Not sure about the rest of you but I lost count how many times there were similar problems with test results for me and OH during fertility treatment! So stressful! Hope it's resolved soon for you. Xx

OP posts:
FlapJackered · 19/05/2020 22:15

@Lily999 I know it's hard but please try not to worry and I wouldn't google anymore. My NIPT consultant warned me before we started that it is quite common not to get enough fetal blood and if that happens I would just have to come in for another test. She was very relaxed about it and never suggested it would indicate a problem. I think as the others say it's probably just lab errors or just that particular sample. Xx

@Wimbledon1 that is amazing you're getting kicking, that must be so reassuring!
Even though I know I have an anterior placenta, it is still worrying me a bit and I am getting the pre-scan nerves picking up again 🙈

Lily999 · 20/05/2020 09:08

Thank you @October2020, @Chooklass and @flapJackered, yesterday I told DH the news and he asked what happens if the second vial fails as well? So I called them back and they said in that case I will have to go back and give more blood. So it would take an additional 2weeks to get the results. Then she said if I am happy to go in today to give blood they can jump ahead to speed up the process. So I did go in and gave blood yesterday. They checked on the baby and everything is as it should be, strong heartbeat, size is good, placenta is also ok, nothing alarming. So at least it was good to get some assurance on that. I also saw the baby moving and felt nothing so it was good to know just because I don't feel it yet it doesn't mean something is wrong.

Also asked if there is not enough fractions in 1vial doesn't it mean there won't be in the second either? She said no, these particles are floating around and it happens more often than I'd think, if it meant the second vile was gonna fail they would automatically ask for a second sample instead of doing this expensive testing on the second tube. I must admit it did make sense.

Asked what happens if this one fails as well she said she's been working there for 8years and it only happened once with an obese lady and at this point I have no reason to worry, it is down to luck how many fractions they catch.

Thanks @FlapJackered she said the same and that babies with Down syndrome have actually elevated fractions plus that my NHS results came back 1:7084 so I really shouldn't worry about this part.
