Hello
am over here...!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mixedmama · 12/09/2007 11:11

I got really upset as I couldnt actually get the hang of it so DH had to show me.

Bettymamma · 12/09/2007 11:19

Oh DH was so desperate to have a go but the midwife wouldn't let him! I told the midwife it was like smoking a spliff and then got questions about 'how did i know what that was like etc' opps.

Am actually seriously looking forward to that again...

Had tens machine and took a couple of paracetamol as well! (which honestly helped!)

LilyLoo · 12/09/2007 11:19

LOL Betty at looking forward to it

Bettymamma · 12/09/2007 11:20

May let DH have a little swig this time when midwife not looking!

fluffymummy · 12/09/2007 11:22

G & A - wonderful stuff! Unfortunately my hospital messed up with me last time and having induced me (on the pre labour ward) then didnt have a bed for me once I went into labour. So I had 12 hours of full on labour without any pain relief at all (they offered me pethidine or paracetamol!), before dh pointed out that they must have mobile G&A as they have birthing pools...they wouldn't get it, so he had to go off to the labour ward to find one on wheels! By the time I finally got a labour room I'd been going for 14 hours and was knackered so ended up having an epidural - it took another 13 hours for ds to actually show up so it was probably a good thing, altho I've always thought that the epi slowed things down. Anyway, I think I'd have gone a lot longer if I'd had G & A from earlier.

Needless to say, I'm going to a different hospital this time! Hopefully it'll be a normal labour and I won't need any medical intervention, but I've learnt now that it doesn't really matter what you want, the main thing is that the baby comes out ok :-)

Redcurrants...very sour, but strangely addictive. With chocolate? Probably, but I think it would need to be the dark stuff...

MotherofZ · 12/09/2007 11:25

lol @ G&A stories.
BM - smoking a spliff...???? Got some skeltons in your cupboard???

Bettymamma · 12/09/2007 11:27

and the green and blacks variety!

Its really bad how many times you hear of people being induced and then the ward not having a bed!! So annoying. Poor you Fluffymummy. Hopefully this one will come along naturally on time so you can hang around at home for as long as poss. Thats what i did and it was a lot more comfortable than being at hospital.

Bettymamma · 12/09/2007 11:27

oh it was a long long long time ok when i knew no better...........

mixedmama · 12/09/2007 11:31

Is a TENS machine any good? I have been toying with this idea as a way to stop me puffing on G&A quite so early

LilyLoo · 12/09/2007 12:22

mm i never tried one but they are suppose to be good for early on think.

MrsMcJnr · 12/09/2007 12:31

Hello ladies

Sorry Mixedmama I am like a broken record about this its just that she is too ? constantly harassing me and making it an issue for me again easier said than done to ignore your own mother though your advice is sound Agree about the internals, hate them and they must be so sore at that stage, what happens if you go in the pool ?too early? can you not deliver in it? Tell us more about the vit K etc

Does anyone know of a good template for a birth plan?

Awen ? you are sweet

Gingeme ? I keep meaning to start my birth plan. I know that it is more of a wish list but it makes sense to do my homework so I understand the options available I think. My wish sounds similar to yours - basically I would like as active and natural birth as possible in the water with as little medical intervention and drugs as I can get away with. I think I?d like a natural 3rd stage too but I am researching whether that would put me at too much risk due to my blood clotting issues. Interesting what you say about being 5cms diluted when you get into the water, I?d read that they don?t let you get in until you are fully dilated? At the mo DH wants to get in too but I think he?ll change his mind. I hope to take advantage of all the breast feeding help my hospital gives in the first few days too so I won?t be in a rush to get home (easy to say now!!) Hope all goes well for DS?s op. Hope the headache eases soon

MotherofZ ? I feel emotional today too ? very tired, got a headache in the night behind my left eye and hardly slept so being shattered isn?t helping. I am suddenly much bigger this week ? anyone else? Funny, I was looking for chocolate covered coconut in Holland & Barratt yesterday ? just fancied it, maybe there is something in coconut?!

Hey Sideways so lovely to see you! How are you? So glad the scan went well. Thanks for your nice words, I think my Mum thinks I am still part of her body and therefore subject to her scrutiny even if my cord was cut nearly 34 years ago I was thinking how freaky it would be if I had this baby on the same day and time as I was born ? its feasible, my birthday is 29/12.

Bettymamma ? already eaten chocolate here! Is a Tens machine worth hiring for the pre hospital stages of labour do you think? Thought it might also be a useful distraction!

Fluffymummy ? redcurrants impressed! Constantly bunking here Interesting what you say about the gas and air, I was hoping to go without as was worried it would distract me and possibly make me sick.

Hey Lilyloo

Can anyone help me with this www.mumsnet.com/Talk/49/387072?stamp=070912121902 you know how much I LOVE working from home!!!

beller · 12/09/2007 12:41

Morning all!

bettymamma Thats my normal getting up time...5 o clock or 5.30...so well prepared!

Sideways - Glad the scan was ok!

Gingeme - my birth plan is similar to yours...but hopefully at home! Hope your head gets better . Just a thought, but when i was suffering with headaches, i was told max of 4 in a day?

mixedmama · 12/09/2007 12:52

MrsMcJnr - Sorry MrsMcJnr just meant that I had already explained that I had a situation like yours regarding the weight so i didnt want to bore you with repeating myself and making it about me.... sorry didnt mean to make you think it was cos you had mentioned it.

In terms of the pool too early. My MW didnt check my dilation before I went in last time and after about 30-45 mins I wanted to get out, not sure why, i just suddenly decided I wanted to get out and I hadnt dilated at all since I got there. this time i would really like bubba to born into the water so would like to get in later.

fluffymummy · 12/09/2007 12:55

MrsMc,in theory, the assessment checks all the obvious stuff like screen height, keyboard height etc. As far as I know, your employers are obliged to provide you with the correct kit for home working if they have approved you doing it - in other words, they should give you (or provide budget for) a decent chair, light and anything else the assessment says you need. Otherwise if you end up doing damage to your back when working from home for them, they may be liable for damages. Might be worth having a chat with whoever is doing the assessment (sometimes contracted 3rd parties), as they make the recommendations back to the office..

LilyLoo · 12/09/2007 12:58

repied on your thread mrs mc

Bettymamma · 12/09/2007 13:44

I pop out for lunch and look what happens!

I found my TENS machine was fabulous. A complete distraction and stopped me going into hospital for ages (walked in at 9 and 1/2cm dilated not realising I was so far ahead but having a strong desire to do a poo - this is the pushing stage!). I would definitely recommend. Can't have it in the birth pool though (I'm guessing!)

Miriam Stoppard had a good template for a birth plan. I'll see if its on the internet somewhere. Regarding Vit K - my dd was injected I think. Oh it was a blur. Didn't want to upset her tummy with a tablet.

Mrsmcjnr - your mum is like mine. She has been invaluable help since having dd though so you never know!

Beller - I think your early morning starts will help you be prepared as well! but do it at the weekend as well - actually don't - bl**dy enjoy those lie-ins!

beller · 12/09/2007 13:52

bettymamma - when i was under the sleep clinic for my disorder i had to get up at 5.30 EVERYDAY for 18 mths..............cured me though

fluffymummy · 12/09/2007 14:05

Oops sorry, should have posted my reply to mrsmc's work question on the right thread...

MamaMaiasaura · 12/09/2007 14:13

No firm birth plan here (learnt not to be too rigid after ds!). Loved G&A tho.. super stuff. Need to write mine up as want to be as active as possible and not strapped down to a bed with monitor. Aware they will monitor me due to prev preg but want mobile monitoring.

Gingeme - yes is likely to be adeniods as well. Good idea re books from library, I will go and get some for ds. We did speak about it before. Am dreading it. Told ds about it and he was absolutely fine. His head teacher spoke about giving him homewrok for afterward so they can put him down as being educated off site. What a load of crap imo. He will have some for the Friday and MOnday before tho as I have to keep him away from people with colds before going in. DS is in on the 25th September his pre assessment was 15th August. They were talking about early october for op but gave me dates in Sept yesterday.

Sideways - really glad your scan went well. Did you get some good piccies?

Motherofz (((hugs))) teary days are horrid. Def our hormones. Sorry about headache. Keep an eye on it tho as can be a sign of high blood pressure.

MrsMcJnr- know what you mean about suddenly feeling bigger. My preg skirts look huge now. Saw my best friend today for her birthday and she commented that bump had really grown th last 2 weeks. She has an 21 month old boy who is adorable! Spent an hour playing peek-a-boo

Bettymamma · 12/09/2007 14:13

ohhh beller - what a nightmare!!

Good that you're cured though. How do you find sleeping now your pg? I wake ALL the time.

Bettymamma · 12/09/2007 14:15

yeah - if they come near you trying to strap you to the bed shout no. Midwifes can be buggers! I had NO choice. Pinned down, strapped in, couldn't move.

MotherofZ · 12/09/2007 14:26

Awen - know your DS education is important but I hope his school doesn't expect him to work during his early stages of recovery.

Talking about the birth - how was everyone's experience of an internal examination? I found it so uncomfortable and painful I screamed my head off. I never swear but that time I was ever so rude to the midwife. After that they would only do an internal after I had a good dose of G&A!!

OP posts:
Bettymamma · 12/09/2007 14:37

What stage did they do the internal MotherofZ?

I was ready to push when they did mine and didn't really know what was going on. Was yours nearer the beginning. It's the whole hand isn't it??

Awen - agree with Motherofz. Remember my school giving me loads of work when i had tonsils out (at same age as your ds!) and actually remember feeling stressed about it. (the homework - not the operation, I'd like to add!)

MotherofZ · 12/09/2007 14:41

yes, mine was during the early stages - but it was a bit weird as when the m/w done it (rather crudely as I was screaming my head off) she said I was 0 cm dialted, but when the doctor double checked 10 minutes later she said I was 6 cm dialted and they quickly whisked me off to the delivery suite. Think the m/w might have got it wrong..

OP posts:
Bettymamma · 12/09/2007 14:46

How bizarre! Unless you went from 0 to 6 cm in 10 mins - you never know. I know the internal can help speed things up....[schock]

Am slightly at my ever absent DH in China. I know he's been away for a couple of weeks now but he DID NOT HAVE A CLUE how pregnant I was?? Not how many weeks or even months! Does anyone else have this with their partners?
