Hello
am over here...!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Angechica · 24/09/2007 09:48

Have opposite problem - just received £200 from my Nan and £100 from MIL (elderly pensioners who can't really afford that) plus £350 from my mum. I really don't know what to spend all that on apart from new car seat - the pushchair I am determined to get 2nd hand. Keeping in special bank account opened for baby & will use when on mat leave on everyday stuff for baby instead!

MotherofZ · 24/09/2007 09:57

Naetha - due date buddy - didn't realise!! Am finishing a week after you on the 7th Dec. Hope I last that long!!

mixedmama · 24/09/2007 10:02

That is funny that they thought they could get those things for £50. Nice of them to offer anything tho. When I was pregnant with DS my MIL bought a milk saucepan not sure what for. To this day DS has received £20. Anyway not grinding any axes today, just seemed a funny thing to contribute.

MotherofZ · 24/09/2007 10:13

MM - did you arrange to meet with your SIL then?

OP posts:
mixedmama · 24/09/2007 10:22

Well we arranged it sort of. Last sunday but then text her to cancel. she will have been fasting which meant we couldnt meet until at least 6.30 and then byt he time we eat etc it would be late and i would be knackered and then have work the next day. Just too tired for all of that at the minute.

gingeme · 24/09/2007 12:06

Good morning ladies. We are all so organised arent we? Im going to start getting bits like nappies and sanitary towels etc soon. A little each week is a good idea. I spent all day washing baby clothes yesterday and have put them all away in the chest of drawers. I counted 118 vests ranging from 7lbs to 3-6 months. I havnt kept all of them though I shall pass some on to my cousin who is due in Febuary. I kept thinking to myself 'can't believe Edward used to wear these'. Didnt seem 5 minutes ago. If you had told me Id be doing it again this year Id have laughed at you
Ive got a 24 week scan on Thursday to check babys size. Cant wait to see bean again

MrsMcJnr · 24/09/2007 12:13

Hello

Sideways ? sorry you are still feeling/being sick I only have it occasionally now.

Molly65 ? that?s what they are checking me for too ? good to be checked out We?ve just sighed with relief as a friend had a baby this morning and didn?t use either of our names only 3 more friends? babies due before ours now.

Naetha ? what a busy weekend! 10 weeks left until mat leave I have 12 weeks on Friday (13 really then!) well done on getting all that stuff we are getting the maxi cosi car seat too.

Ayreshirelolo ? LOL at name choices, there are times in RL when you just have to hold your tongue aren?t there?! I like your names (I do!) Never known a Simon nicknamed Simple ? lots of them are Si for short.

Mixedmama ? thought of you last night as I was watching Palin?s New Europe and it was all about Turkey ? looked lovely (or did I get that wrong and you are nothing to do with Turkey? ) Are Ediz and Ilhan pronounced the way they look? Well done for getting all those things together. On the subject of nighties etc, am I right to be worried that most of them are light colours, will there be leakage from various places that will embarrass me if people come to visit? I just don?t know what to expect girl in my office worked until her due date! I?m finishing on 21/12, the Friday before Christmas, I?ll be 36+3. Sorry about DH and the jeans. I am reading ?How to baby proof your marriage? at the moment and it does say that men continually try to cut corners and that we have to be careful that our urge to control things doesn?t make that worse! a milk pan?!

MotherofZ ? hello how did you find out you had Strep B last time? Was it at the birth? I?ve got a note in my diary to start making food to freeze for when the baby comes from15/10 but I guess that might all go horribly wrong if we move somewhere without a big freezer!

Quick shopping question ? if I have bought a foot muff for the buggy, do I need pram sheets too? Or does the baby in whatever outdoor clothing it is in just go inside the muff thing? so clueless! Also, do babies normally wear a vest or short sleeved body suit under their sleepsuits?

Beller ? am so looking forward to a break! Haven?t had a day off for 12 weeks now and as I used to work for a Bank, I am just not used to it!! How was your weekend? Any further forward on the nursery chat? That show sounded fun. I have been sent a CD from another MNetter on Hypnobirthing and I know my friend who had her baby last night was planning to use it, I?ll find out if she did or not. Hope your computer is ok. That must have been hard for you at the pub x One thing I learnt from my sis was that poor nephew had a bad reaction to any tomatoes she had eaten when she was BF so I will be trying to avoid them in my freezer cooking!

Angechica ? enjoy being pampered! we are being very cautious in our name choices to make sure they sound ok or can be said in Spain ? we are now stuck on Xavier for a boy (was once in love with a Javi in Spain ) and Aaliyah for a girl. Both will be easy to say I think I guess you have to be careful, we have a very Scottish surname and I don?t want the baby?s name to sound like an international law firm! Lola, Luna, Rosa and Rocco do feature in the names we like though. DH liked some really Spanish boys names but they sounded silly with a Mc after them! Generous baby fund donations there!

Gingeme snap! My 24 week scan is on Thursday too (9.30) sending you good vibes for yours. 118 vests ? wow!! DH and I were talking last night and we realised that in our grand plan, I will also be pregnant this time next year! I know you can?t really plan these things but if everything goes well with this pregnancy, we would like to have more children and have them pretty close together ? we reckon we?ll need to start trying again next June! I guess that might not happen if I am still BF my lovely (tickly kicking) Beanie

mixedmama · 24/09/2007 12:35

You remembered correctly MrsMCJnr - i watched it... had it on reminder all week.

I loved the way he kept asking everyone about Turkey joining the EU and everyone just kept saying "you cant just make up rules" - loved it.

yep Ediz and Ilhan exactly the way they look, that is what is so goo about Turkish... always the way it looks. My mum pronounces Ediz much easier than Ilhan so TBH that may well sway things.

beller · 24/09/2007 12:38

Mrsmcjnr...My mate has told me I cant use the name Ava...shes not even pregnant! hahaha

mixedmama · 24/09/2007 12:43

Such a pretty name tho Beller... would def be on my list if a) i was having a girl and b) wasnt restricted by cultural and religious choices... it is just so pretty.

MotherofZ · 24/09/2007 13:11

what does Ilhan mean?

Mrs McJnr - hello! I found out I had Group B Streps when I went for my booking appointment with my pregnancy. Told the m/w I was having a lot of discharge and she just took a swab. This time around the m/w has just put it in my notes that I had Group B Streps in my last pregnancy. Going to ask if she get me tested for it this time aswell.

OP posts:
mixedmama · 24/09/2007 13:19

Ilhan means ruler.... all Han endings in Turkish mean khan and Il is city, sot hat is literal.

Naetha · 24/09/2007 14:42

I'm struggling a bit on middle names. Now we've decided to go for Ben as a first name, I need to find a middle name to go with it.

I get free rein with the middle name, and I really want to go with a Welsh name. Originally I really wanted Owain, but the initials BOT would be terrible to say the least! The other names I'm considering are Geraint or Gareth. I love Gareth - it was my brother's name, but he died 12 years ago when I was 13. I don't know if it would be too much for my mum and my grandparents if the name came up again, although I haven't mentioned the subject yet.

With the Welsh name, I want it to be different, but not obscure and constantly mispronounced! I'm worried Geraint would be pronounced Jeraint, and then the other names I like are a bit more obscure like Emrys, Idwal, Carwyn and Cai.

Help me!

MamaMaiasaura · 24/09/2007 14:44

Dylan is a welsh name. We were considering it early on. DP familyh is welsh.. hence Owen. Love the name Ben - my nephews name

Naetha · 24/09/2007 14:45

Oh, and the other ones I like Tristan and Dylan have been vetoed by DH :p

Bettymamma · 24/09/2007 14:48

Hiya ladies - how are you all?

Busy at work but counting down the days. I have 8 weeks left (5 weeks holiday owed - loads carried over from last year so going on actual maternity leave 23 dec, due 31st dec.)

Lets try to catch up now

Awen - how's it going on your own? My dh back on Sunday - yippee!

Naetha - take the £50 and go on ebay. But not for the car seat though. I remember last time being told you shouldn't buy second hand car seats.

mixedmama - milk saucepan?! how amusing. I'm sue its helpful when making cheese sauces???

gingeme - you sound so organised already. I need to get the vests out of the loft and purchase a wardrobe for the baby. I know its 14 weeks to go but I remember last time it went so fast and by the end all you want to do is sleep!

MrsMcJnr - yes light coloured nighties are not great i remember. Neither are light coloured knickers - for like the following 6 weeks after giving birth! Your shopping question - i'd put them in the footmuff in just their clothes no need for pram sheets and regarding the vest under sleepsuit dilema - probably because its such a cold time of year you'll need the short sleeve bodysuit underneath I reckon. Can't wait to purchase a snow suit for the baby!

My dd has chosen name for the baby and now it is referred to it all the time and I don't think we'll be able to change it even if we want to. She's called it Lola (prob after Charlie and Lola!)

Beller - my mate has said I can't use Ava and is also not pregnant - do you reckon they're the same person??

Motherofz - whats group B Streps?

Enough from me I think - speak soon.xx

Bettymamma · 24/09/2007 14:50

Naetha - I bet your mum and grandparents would love it if you chose Gareth after your brother. I think its a lovely idea - but do check with them first.

MamaMaiasaura · 24/09/2007 14:52

Bettymamma - lovely for you to have your dh back. Thought of you when the football was on telly. I am missing dp, feel abit lost in the evening without him. Am going to try and enjoy the reduced mess & ironing tho

MrsMcJnr · 24/09/2007 15:37

Mixedmama ? DH didn?t like the look of the oil fighting ? neither did I, hands down the back of those big hairy men?s pants, no thanks! but we thought those Ghost houses were amazing! I wonder if/when Turkey will join the EU. Those names sound good Who says MN isn?t educational ? I learnt some Turkish today!

Beller ? did you know that that was our name for our lost angel? we thought Ava was a really unusual name when we chose it for her (should have been here next week ) and now they seem to be everywhere, still love it though but its taken as far as we are concerned ? I say that she who gets there first gets the name amongst friends!

MotherfZ ? I don?t know if Strep B is related to other streptococcus sp! viruses and I had a really bad one in 2003 and I was ill for over a year but the midwife looks at me like I?m a fruitcake when I say that. Will ask consultant on Thurs. Will they not just give you antibiotics in labour this time rather than test you again?

Naetha ? ok, mission to find you a middle name ? can you tell us what you surname is? I?d broach the subject of using Gareth ? it would be a lovely tribute to your brother I?m sure the family would see it that way too. Not too up on Welsh names I?m afraid

Bettymamma 8 weeks left! Your DH?s ladies do seem to be doing well (according to my DH!) thanks for the tips. I plan on buying a few packs on Tesco black granny bashers and then chucking them all out once normal service is resumed ? all the maternity pjs seem to be pink or grey though ? what is that all about!! Is a snow suit essential outside wear for a Winter baby then? Saw some really cute ones in the JoJoMamanBebe catalogue! I like Lola

In a really big grump ? Credit Card Company just cut my credit limit in half just when I was eyeing it up for baby purchases think hysteria is breaking out over the whole Northern Rock thing!

Bettymamma · 24/09/2007 15:39

Motherofz - how did they find out that you had Group B Strep if they don't routinely test? Is it something they can find out in your urine. That's just reminded me, I seriously need to book to see the midwife at some point - I haven't once given in a urine sample for this pregnancy. Totally my fault.

Awen - yes the ironing pile and mess does decrease. And you get to have complete control over the remote. And you can sleep like a starfish in your bed - or even horizontally. There are some benefits. I believe my dh may have bought me some chopsticks as a present!?

Bettymamma · 24/09/2007 15:44

My dh's ladies - hahaha - Yes - he was away with 21 of them! We spotted him on tele on Saturday but my dd didn't recognise him

Re snowsuits - they look so warm and snug in them! I think I have to have one. I'd like a matching one (Can you imagine!)

MrsMcJnr - forgot your baby was called Ava. It is a beautiful name. I know it will be very difficult when the due date passes.

Naetha · 24/09/2007 15:47

My surname is Thackray, and first name will be Ben/Benjamin. Names that start with a vowel are out really otherwise it will be BAT/BET/BIT/BOT/BUT for the initials!

The other option of course is to go for two middle names, but thats a bit over-complicated!

mixedmama · 24/09/2007 15:57

MrsMCjnr- that must hard with the date coming up.

I actually really like the oil wrestling, very Turkish,..... was a bit miffed by the appeal of camel wrestling, never even seen a camel in Turkey
