Had my 28wk midwife appointment today, they changed it to be at the local surestart instead of docters.

All was well, strong perfect heartbeat, she even tried to kick her off 😂 bump measurements was a tiiiiny bit above average but nothing midwife was concerned about.
I have to go to pregnancy assessment on Saturday morning for my Anti-D, which I'm not looking forward too with it being at the hospital and everything that's going on.

peetieswie · 31/03/2020 18:55

@mj2196 it's pretty normal for me, this was the most rapid it's been but its pretty rapid and quick kicks fairly often. I guess I've just got a very active baby? Baby kicks a lot a lot of the day in general. Annoying cos whenever husband tries to feel it stops, but he has felt and seen kicking a few times.

chocolate26 · 31/03/2020 18:55

@Mj2196 I managed to get some from John Lewis, I have been having the same problem though trying to find newborn stuff! I've looked on H&M and M&S but all neutral stuff seems to be sold out.

My baby sometimes has a really active hour or so where I feel him/her constantly! I've wondered sometimes if it's too much but then it calms down and seems to sleep for a bit so i think it's just when it's awake and has lots of energy.

Blizy · 31/03/2020 19:19

@Mj2196 thank you!
My little one is also very active, she is so strong and some of her kicks are painful!

mrssunshinexxx · 31/03/2020 19:25

@peetieswie the swelling and any blurred vision is a sign of preeclampsia which is really dangerous keep a close eye on your self

Gigitree · 31/03/2020 19:42

@Zoey92 I have to go to the hospital too on Thursday for my Glucose Tolerance Test, really not looking forward to having to be in a hospital and stuck there for two hours!

AndddddHerewegoagain · 31/03/2020 19:44

@peetieswie my son left me with external bruising he kicked me so hard!! The midwife couldn't believe it. He was super alert once he was born as well but an excellent sleeper as he exhausted himself constantly so hoping you have the same (good sleeper not bruising)

peetieswie · 31/03/2020 19:54

I seem to have had the flashing lights a couple of times when I've overdone it a big, first time was in London after walking miles. If I just have swelling but no vision issues should I also be worried? Had swollen ankles a fair bit, but just figured it was part of pregnancy and not putting my feet up much.

Thanks for the advice regarding kicking, feel more at ease about it now. Fingers crossed for an active baby and good sleeper!

chocolate26 · 31/03/2020 21:18

Does anyone feel baby's movements on your sides almost like a scratchy feeling? Do they have finger nails or toe nails long enough to scratch at this point? It's such a weird feeling I'm trying to work out what it is!

Rinoa · 31/03/2020 21:49

How many newborn nappies should I buy? I believe it's size 1?

RPPs · 31/03/2020 21:50

Yes @chocolate26 Ive felt the mini finger pokes around my belly button and right down in the corner when I lay on my side.

I will sign the petition and get distribution too.

A glucose test has never been discussed with me but Im wondering if they missed it as most of you seem to have had it. Ive been eating way more choc and sweets, so feel I should have it

chocolate26 · 31/03/2020 21:54

@RPPs it must be fingernails I can feel then! Very cute.

No ones mentioned a glucose test to me either, I don't think everyone has to have it? I'm not sure, I'm new to all this!

Busylizzie85 · 31/03/2020 22:04

@chocolate26 totally have the weird scratchy pokes thought I was going mad so glad it's not just me!

NakeliP · 31/03/2020 22:23

@chocolate26 @RPPs re: the GTT I had it because I have a first degree relative (dad) with Type 2 diabetes. Generally you only have the test if you may be predisposed to it or if they're worried about gestational diabetes due to other test results (like too much glucose in your urine sample and/or you measure large on bump growth or growth scans). Not everyone has the test - we seem to be over represented in this thread!

UKtoSK · 31/03/2020 22:37

@peetieswie I’m glad you asked about the baby movements as I had just woken up in a panic because it felt like baby was flailing about then when I put my hand on my belly I realised I was having a Braxton Hicks contraction. It went away as I started breathing but then I couldn’t feel baby for about half an hour. She’s back to moving like normal now, although I think I’ll be keeping an eye on her all day.

I thought I hadn’t been having Braxton Hicks at all but I guess I’ve been having them at night and not realising.

UKtoSK · 31/03/2020 22:37

What’s everyone else’s experience with braxton hicks so far?

chocolate26 · 31/03/2020 23:00

@NakeliP that's handy to know!

@UKtoSK I have been having braxton hicks since about 16 weeks! Some days I get loads and others I get one or two. I ended up in triage a couple of times earlier on thinking I was in early labour but I wasn't. I don't get worried by them now as they are never regular and not painful just uncomfortable.

Missgemini · 01/04/2020 00:31

I had my 31 week appt with my GP yesterday (Tuesday). Despite the receptionist telling me off a while back for saying that my antenatal appt cannot be on the phone, it turns out that I was right. The GP called and asked me to come in.
The waiting room was completely empty. Like not a single person.
When the GP finally came out to call me, she was wearing full PPE. I am still wondering if she was trying to protect herself from me or me from her. I know she knows that I work in a hospital.
It was so surreal. Her office was completely bare. No computer. Just the couch.
Anyway, all went well. She decided to send my urine off because I had 2+ leukocytes.
But baby was measuring along the correct line and heart beat sounded strong.
I'm very much looking forward to things getting back to normal.

RPPs · 01/04/2020 03:19

Does anyone ever get a pulse low down? I thought it was the heartbeat at first but MW says its not.

UKtoSK · 01/04/2020 06:14

@RPPs could it be hiccups? I think that’s what I’ve been feeling recently, about once a day, feels like a pulse rhythm.

@chocolate26 that must have been scary, but glad it wasn’t preterm labour. Mine definitely wasn’t painful at all either, I actually don’t think I’d have noticed if I hadn’t put my hand on my belly at the time.

sarahlounich · 01/04/2020 06:48

I've noticed the rhythmic feeling the last week or so and decided it was hiccups....cute!

I also get movement that's like a big flurry or a somersault where my whole belly feels like it moves...only for 20 seconds or so then he settles down so think he's just getting comfy- tends to be when i wake up in the morning.

Got my 31 week appointment this morning, haven't heard it isn't going ahead so going to go to my GP surgery as normal.

I managed to get some newborn stuff from Sainsburys online on Sundays and John Lewis has most things in newborn and 0-3 on Monday....they also had 30%. Dont panic thought you'll find some bits from different places and shops will get there stock back up 🙂

UKtoSK · 01/04/2020 08:26

@sarahlounich flurry is a good way of describing it. I have some days, like today, where she does it a lot in amongst normal movements and some days not at all. I think it’s when she’s facing forwards more so I can feel everything right at the front.

Got a swing seat delivered and put it together to make sure it works fine and realised we don’t have the right batteries. So now it’s just sitting in the corner of the living room, staring at me. It’s way too early to have it out permanently so I just want to check quickly and put it away again.

umabb · 01/04/2020 09:50

I'm furious !!
I asked in a WhatsApp group to sign the petition - a group of my work colleagues with 99% men in there - see this is one of the guys response.

"That sounds quite selfish to be honest(the women who started the petition, not You!!). She sounds quite anxious but it is what it is and the rules are there for a reason. (Just showed it to my wife who is a midwife...she went berserk!)"

"I’m not saying she shouldn’t be worried, giving birth is a very stressful time. But venting over a petition is pointless and just spreading fear. There was a shortish of midwives before this, so all measures being put in place is to keep the level of care as normal as possible and most importantly safe."

"The current restrictions are in place to reduce the chance of infection spreading thru the wards and more staff being off. Less staff= less safe. My wife’s hospital is the same, only in established labour are you allowed 1 partner. Not heard of anywhere stopping partner at the birth."

@UKtoSK @sarahlounich @RPPs I’ve also been feeling a rhythmic/pulse sort of thing and assumed it was hiccups too 😍

Busylizzie85 · 01/04/2020 10:02

Currently on BBC1 is the health check programs talking about pregnancy and birth during the pandemic x
