Graduate thread for all the amazing ladies who have endured infertility and are hopefully now starting a new chapter🤞

@Littlelot @Viletta @candycornlover @FlapJackered @Wimbledon1

I got my BFP on Tuesday the 28th and am feeling pretty symptom free today (so obviously panicking that it's all going wrong! 😣). 7 week scan due to be Tuesday the 18th and it feels like a long way away with symptoms going awol! 😥 POAS this morning and it looks spot on for where I should be, so trying to take some comfort from that 🤞🤞🤞

Thanks to everyone who suggested Ovia upthread, I've signed up today. Out of interest, has anyone got any pregnancy book recommendations? There's plenty of online stuff but I do like an actual book to get stuck into and I know pretty much zero about actually being pregnant.

My clinic are doing two scans at 6 and 8 weeks. It looks like everyone else is having or has had 1 scan?

Wimbledon1 · 01/03/2020 17:52

Hi everyone, hope you've all had nice weekends. Welcome to the thread @CupcakeEater and @justkeeprunning5 and congratulations on your BFPs! Hope it is starting to sink in.

@FlapJackered I went to a similar 90s era concert era just before Christmas and general it's full of people in their 30s and 40s who just sit down, no moshing 😉 (until the couple of classics which brought people to their feet!)

How is everyone doing with their weight? I know we are basically all bloated, but has anyone actually put any on yet? I weighed myself again this morning and have in fact lost 2KG in the last month. Slightly surprised about that although am 90% sure that's because I'm no longer drinking as I did used to put a fair bit more than the recommended amount away 😬 But I don't know if at this point others are seeing it start to creep up?

I also seem to be getting insomnia (or at least trouble falling asleep) instead of the tiredness I had two weeks ago. This is all a rollercoaster isn't it!!

Viletta · 01/03/2020 19:40

@CupcakeEater I think they probably want to see that pregnancy is in the correct location at 6w and then check how it progresses and heartbeat at 8w. It's great that you have this extra care! I was also thinking about books. So far looked into Owner'Manual for DH.

Minster2012 · 01/03/2020 20:04

Is the ovia app free?

Im finding myself really hungry in the morning but then not really very hungry in the evening and I’m trying to concentrate on listening when I feel fuller quicker

@BambiOnIce80 that’s so lovely about the Italian couple!

@CupcakeEater congratulations! And that’s so good you get 2 scans then the NHS one, very jealous!! Time is dragggggiiinnngg as unfortunately for those of us still early on I totally don’t feel pregnant still other than just a bit off my food and slightly crampy occasionally 🤷‍♀️I’ve even stopped early morning waking (yay!)

By the way can I ask the newbies @justkeeprunning5 & @CupcakeEater how your clinics have dated you? If your transfer was on what date, how far along have they said you are? Or what due date if they’ve said? Mine seems a bit behind what others have said? I’m keen to see what other clinics have said?

justkeeprunning5 · 01/03/2020 20:35

Hi @Minster2012 they haven’t dated me yet. I’ve downloaded an app called due date calculator / D Calc and it allows you to put your transfer day and type in. It estimates that I am 4 weeks 3 days having had a 5day transfer on 18/02. A few other online calculators seem to give me the same date.

Minster2012 · 01/03/2020 20:50

@Justkeeprunning5 yes mine kind of didn’t too, mine said “we just say no matter whether your transfer was 3 or 5 day we count it as 2 weeks gone on day of transfer so just use that & the 12 week scan will give you your due date” (it was same for DS 2 years ago then they just kept asking what date the clinic said & they never did 🤦🏼‍♀️So it was 3 day transfer & we just told them constantly what the online calls said, he was one day overdue
& 9lbs) but when I use online calculators they all say half a week earlier so I’ve self referred to midwife & they said “well what did your clinic say” & I gave them the online date as during a 12 week scan they will sort it out 🤷‍♀️ It will make the 12 week scan a few days earlier!!

DobbieFreeElf · 01/03/2020 21:09

@minster2012 Here’s a calculator for IVF conception due date estimate: www.princetonivf.com/due-date-calculator

We had our transfer on the same day didn’t we? I’m 6 weeks today.

Could everyone give me some reassurance or a massive kick up the bum?! I’m so worried about not “feeling enough” yet. I’ve even gone all the way back on my WhatsApp messages to spring 2016 when I conceived my DS to read through my messages with my DH to see what I was saying about how I was feeling then. I’m so distracted by my symptoms or lack there of, DH has asked me “are you ok?” So many times today, I must be appearing different for him to keep asking and sounding so concerned.

Minster2012 · 01/03/2020 21:52

@dobbieFreeElf yes I thought on the same day, so I get 6 weeks today as well, but going by what my clinic say I was 5 weeks on Friday 🤷‍♀️ I’m def gonna go with 6 weeks for the midwives though & let the 12 week scan sort it out 🤣🤔

Please don’t fret, I feel basically nothing too. Only very slight occasional cramps & not wanting masses of food I don’t feel any different either xx

Viletta · 01/03/2020 22:23

@DobbieFreeElf I am week 9 and I feel pretty normal. My only real symptom is sore boobs and being more tiered than usual. Some days I definitely feel nothing at all and absolutely normal. Let's hope for an easy healthy pregnancy without many annoying symptoms 😊

Viletta · 01/03/2020 23:52

I also wonder why dating scan is around 12w. Where I am from they do it at 6w and say the earlier the more accurate as baby size varies a lot after 10w. Watching lots of YouTube videos on delivery.. I know I anticipate things way too much but I haven't really researched the subject at all.

FlapJackered · 02/03/2020 06:47

@DobbieFreeElf I read somewhere statistics for this, I can't remember what they were but most people start getting symptoms at 7 or 8 weeks not 6 weeks. So it may still come! Also 20% of people get no symptoms and all is fine.

@Wimbledon1 @Chooklass @Viletta that is good to know. I will be 39 weeks though and 2 hours from home 😬 just not sure if that is a really stupid idea.
I think I will judge it nearer the time and hope I can sell the tickets if not. I will be so sad to miss her though! 😭

@Wimbledon1
I haven't weighed myself so far, but I definitely feel like I have put on weight. I feel like I have more chub. I needed to put on some weight though so 🤞 then I won't get told off by the midwife. I think not drinking can have a big impact so I am sure that would help with those 2kg, I don't think there is any requirement to put on weight until the 2nd tri though.
The insomnia is tough, I am still waking up in the middle of the night and early morning. I am getting through so many more books! Are you still on the progesterone? I am sure that contributes to it.

Has anyone downloaded the What to Expect app? It's quite American but they give a little video each week which explains what is happening, which is amazing!

Urgh I was feeling so rough yesterday again. 🤮 it is weird how it is coming in days for me. I will have a really bad day then be absolutely fine (bar the zombienss) for 6 days 🤷‍♀️

Wimbledon1 · 02/03/2020 08:34

Oh no @FlapJackered - even harder to cope with feeling awful when it's unpredictable like that isn't it. How are you feeling today? Hoping it's at least hitting you for the weekend not at work.

Yes you're right, I'm still on the pessaries, they have given me them up until 12 weeks which wasn't a joy I was expecting! So I think that is still effecting things.

@DobbieFreeElf - I'm in the same boat really. Have had very few symptoms at all, only fleeting ones and there have been a few times I have looked up missed MCs and things but then when I went in for the scan it was all fine (well the experience actually was not as my place were rubbish, but the embie was all where it should be!) Everyone reacts differently as if that 20% get no symptoms, that means around 3 on this thread will get nothing at all, maybe you are a lucky one!!

@lls1990 good luck with the follow-up HcG test today, hope all is well 💫

DobbieFreeElf · 02/03/2020 11:13

Thank you for the reassurance @Minster2012 @FlapJackered @Viletta and @Wimbledon1 I’ll try my very hardest not to worry.

I’m feeling fatter, I haven’t put on weight but I haven’t done my 3/4 classes and 2 nights netball since starting my meds at the beginning of this so I’m definitely larger and I’ve lost muscle, my jeans are all feeling very snug and I’ve given up wearing anything other than leggings unless totally necessary!

@flapjackered jealous that you’ve got Alanis tickets! Honestly I think you’ll be fine but it will depend more if you feel comfortable. I went to a Coldplay concert when I was heavily pregnant with DS. I also started may leave on my due date and then still sat around feeling fat as he was 2 weeks late (finally arriving on my husband’s birthday!) and still took 3 days of labour to make an appearance! The first one is usually late and I always have a little chuckle to myself when a first time mum tells me that she’s “sure the baby will be early” because mostly they’re not!

In any case, have your hospital bag in the car and if the baby decides that’s the time to arrive there’s always going to be a hospital nearby! But it rarely happens that quickly! If it’s a she and she does arrive at the concert you’ll just have to call her Alanis!

Lily999 · 02/03/2020 11:28

Good morning, hope your weekend was nice and @lls1990 fingers crossed for the HCG test today!

@BambiOnIce80 the couple sounds super nice! Well, he's never mentioned having Italian roots, however he's got black hair, so could be, maybe should get one of those online DNA tests to find out haha!

@FlapJackered sorry to hear you've been feeling rubbish, but also @DobbieFreeElf I was the same worrying about not having enough symptoms (terrified of a missed MC), then yesterday (6weeks+4days) it hit me hard. Spent the entire day in bed, was unable to consume food as whenever I even tried to smell it I felt like I was going to throw up. Also awful headache all day long, any suggestions for the headache? I refused to take a pill as it says "if you are pregnant check it with your healthcare provider" and it was Sunday, but it was awful :(

Today again feeling nauseous, but could at least leave the house and came to work.

@Wimbledon1 I am checking my weight every day and I do feel "chubby", however I did not put on any as of yet. now mostly worried about not bringing in enough nutrients due to the nausea, so hoping it'll pass.

@Minster2012 yes, the Ovia is free, I am still very pleased with it.

@twinkleyes35 good luck for your scan today! did we have another scan for today?

Minster2012 · 02/03/2020 11:29

@FlapJackered I used the “what to expect app” fir our DS it’s really cute!

@dobbieFreeElf I’ve stopped my gym stuff since doing the IVF transfer & I’ve totally lost muscle too but my weight is good currently so it’s ok.

I’ve just totally scared myself by looking at the boxes in the midwife notes about medication and medical history and those boxes are very small for someone with a very complicated history 🙈🤦🏼‍♀️I don’t know whether to call them and ask for a longer appointment 🤣

Lily999 · 02/03/2020 11:35

Oh, and @Chooklass I stopped progesterone over 2weeks ago and still waking up around midnight for a pee, then bang on at 4:30, no idea why, it happens every day... odd.

BambiOnIce80 · 02/03/2020 13:29

So sorry you've been feeling rough @FlapJackered and your weekend didn't get any better either @Lily999 💐💐💐 After the 'not fitting in my nice tweed trousers' incident of Friday, I changed tact over the weekend and refused to snack to stop myself feeling queasy... and OMFG did I feel rough as hell yesterday!! 🤢😩 Even looking at the screen on my phone made me feel travel sick📱🤢 I stayed strong though and stuck to the ginger tea and intermittent naps to get through it 🍵😴💪 Feeling a bit more like a human being today, thankfully 👍

I've no idea what my actual weight is doing @Wimbledon1 (don't own any weighing scales), but those work trousers have depressed me no end! 😩 I think I'm going to try and start running again at the weekend to try and rectify the problem 🏃

Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill Tour @FlapJackered !! 🤩🤩🤩 It's still my favourite 'angry ironing' music - nothing else will do if I have to bother with ironing 😄 She's sadly not coming to Scotland, otherwise I'd be straight in there too (and worrying about a EDD clash! 😉).

@Viletta the 12 week scan is mainly for the nuchal translucency scan (trisomy risk factor calculation) which is optimal at 12 weeks and a lot of Trusts/Boards throw the dating scan in with it as well to cut down on appointments 😏 I was actually talking to my midwifery office today (was wondering how I go about getting the FW8 form for my dentist appointment next week 🤔) and I asked about how long it takes to get the trisomy risk factor result (because I started panicking about it again last night for some unknown reason! 🙄). At Lothian (so this should be you too @Chooklass 😉) they do the 12 week scan and then immediately take the bloods to calculate the risk afterwards 💉🧪 The results take about 10 working days to come back in paper form, but we're OK to phone up after 5 working days and they'll be happy to give us the result if it's available electronically to put us out of our misery 😰 I should at least know what I'm dealing with before I visit my folks over Easter 🤞

OP posts:
Viletta · 02/03/2020 14:11

@BambiOnIce80 thank you, yes makes sense to throw dating to 12w scan. My midwife said the same that paper results are back in about 2 weeks but if something is not great they'll call earlier once they get the digital copy. Can't wait to get this milestone out of the way. Sorry to hear you are feeling nauseous. I hear peppermint tea and essential oil helps too.

@Wimbledon1 my weight is the same but my belly looks fatter I think my muscles don't suck it in as good as they used to.

rainbow178 · 02/03/2020 16:06

@BambiOnIce80 what is the triosomy test for? I am trying really hard to not see past my first scan next Tuesday and do not feel at all prepared for actually finding out I'm pregnant and all is well!! If all goes well, I need to get reading ASAP about what to expect after week 8!!

Been feeling rough as today, nearly threw up 3 times while teaching- NOT GOOD!!! I have ginger biscuits, polo, ginger tea and water! Feeling dreadful and really not sure what I fancy for my tea......but need to eat!!!

Minster2012 · 02/03/2020 16:35

@Lily999 my friend used to use a wheat bag by the side of her head for headaches in pregnancy for headaches you could try that? I suffer with migraines a fair bit and most of my medication isn’t allowed only one paracetamol ( I have very hardcore stuff) so when I got a headache the other day I had a paracetamol & was surprised when it went but I know a lot of ppl won’t

@rainbow178 nuchal testing is to rule out certain disorders called Edwards & a couple of other life limiting illnesses & its done on measurements of neck on a 12/13 week scan the baby has to be lying right. Our DS1 wasn’t despite my mate being told to eat chocolate, walk up stairs & do star jumps (I kid you not) he wouldn’t lie right so then u wait for blood results at 16 weeks but that doesn’t then rule one of the diseases out so because I have a few things wrong with me we paid for NIPT testing (private blood testing) which is chromosome testing the following week & that also gave us the gender

I’ve had a stupidly busy ‘day off’ today & im shattered I just want to lie down, dog walking with DS at 7.15am then Tesco shopping at 8am my dad came to pick him up 9.30& wanted idle chit chat (they don’t know), then 2 hours of house cleaning, lunch I finally sat down a bit, into town to get a few more bits all the while thinking “oh yes that shop has a toilet great stuff” 🙈🤦🏼‍♀️, back to cook the quinoa & veg recipe that was on the Ovia app yesterday it’s cooking now whilst dog walking before DS gets delivered back with parents for his tea & more chat as it’s my dads birthday tomorrow then finally at 6 DH will be back to take over & I can sit down after my “day off” 🤦🏼‍♀️

This is before any real symptoms kick in 😂

lls1990 · 02/03/2020 17:08

Had the bloods this morning and was feeling stupidly positive as hadn't had bleeding and put the cramps last week down to then having sickness and diarrhea the next day and assuming that was a tummy bug. Just home from work, gone to the loo and knickers full of blood 😢 not had cramps today just a headache, DH is on his way home from work early. The clinic has said they have my results and someone from the lab will call me tonight. Not sure what help it'll be though as it could have happened this afternoon after the bloods and so no guarantee it will give us an accurate answer 😟

Lily999 · 02/03/2020 17:16

Thanks @BambiOnIce80, I have been having headaches again all day long and the only thing seems to help is if I step outside for a couple of minutes to get some fresh air. @Minster2012 thanks for the tip, will look it up, are you saying paracetamol should be safe? I was thinking I would push through until my first scan on Thursday and ask then. Truth to be told I was not doing a very good job today at work and I don't think it's ok to work like this on a long run. You can get away with it for a day or two sometimes, but I need to get back to normal performance.

So funny I saw that quinoa and veg recipe, I didn't make it at the end, but did eat quinoa because of that article :)

@rainbow178 I am the same, not really sure what happens after the first scan, have been kind of living this count down till OTD, then countdown till the scan, but what happens after that? Are we actually pregnant? :) I guess starting the new one till the 12week scan....

Lily999 · 02/03/2020 17:21

Sorry @lls1990 for the cross post, did you have any cloths? Has the bleeding stopped?

Minster2012 · 02/03/2020 17:43

@Lily999 yes my clinic when going through my medication review after my transfer said paracetamol ok, take one ideally for a headache, if I have what I know is going to be a migraine then I can take two but if I can avoid taking 2 at once during the first 12 weeks that’s the best course. So I took 1 tablet and it went away. That was the consultant who said that & it says paracetamol ok on the NHS website too so I feel ok if I have to take one occasionally 🤷‍♀️.

@lls1990 massively got my fingers crossed for you 🍀🤞🏻🤞🏻Have you phoned the clinic since the bleed? Can you go to a&e? Your EPU might scan you tomorrow?

The quinoa & veg is nice & toddler has just eaten some

BambiOnIce80 · 02/03/2020 17:56

... I'm now crapping myself @Minster2012 that il bambino won't be in the right position on 12 week scan day! 🤯😉 I think I'd have to swallow my 'NHS through and through' pride if that happened and pay for the NIPT test 😏 And please allow me to expand on what Minster said @rainbow178 (because I'm a science geek and can't help myself! 🤓) - the trisomy screen is to check our risk factor for chromosomal abnormalities that result in an extra chromosome that can cause mental retardation syndromes like Downs, Edwards and Patau. I'm 39, so I have an increased risk for all of them and I'm bricking myself a bit 😔 It's like @Lily999 says - you get past the 7 week scan and are relieved to see a heart beat, then you relax a bit, but then you start worrying about the 12 week scan, and then repeat until 20 week scan and then birth!! 🤦‍♀️

I'm so sorry that you've had the fright of a bleed @lls1990, but I hope it's good news for your serum hCG result 🤞🍀
