Hi everyone! This thread has gone really quiet because all the chatter is over on Facebook. It's secret and private, so your real life friends won't see that you've joined it, or see anything you post or comment there. Hello all 👋

Due 16th October but due to complications during labour with my DD (2.5yrs) I think I'll be having a scheduled C section so looking like I might be having this one around 2nd - 9th October.
Hope everyone is getting on okay? I have been struggling with sickness which is easing slightly now although still getting queasy. Not easy with a toddler being locked in.
Hope you're all coping through this strange time Flowers

Hi @LittleMiss7 congratulations! And twins! What a bonus! Yes it's great to know we're not the only older ones! Mine scan is on 28th May, two weeks today, I'm so excited!
How are you doing? Nervous/excited/worn out etc? Any movement yet? I'm not convinced I've felt any yet, but I think that's still normal, for now?

LittleMiss7 · 15/05/2020 08:58

Does it feel like it's taking forever to get to your 20wk scan... or is it just me?! Haha! I'm desperate to know the sexes lol!

Yeah I'm ok ta! Have gone through a range of emotions from being excited to then being petrified when we found out there were two and now I've got my head around it, I'm excited again lol! I've been lucky not to have any sickness yet (touch wood!) but the exhaustion from wks 4-10 was something else!! That and breathlessness which still carries on now but is apparently quite common with twins. How about you... how are you feeling?

No, I've not felt any movement yet - I think it may still be a little early but hoping that maybe I'll start to feel them in the next week or 2. Little bit nervous about what to expect about that too if I'm honest! Hahaha!

Have you started buying little bits yet?

@LittleMiss7 sounds like we're having very similar experiences, I've had no sickness either, though I was very nauseous during 1st trimester, I went off loads of foods incl tea and fizzy drinks. Omg fatigue though!! From about week 7 to week 14 it was relentless, I've never felt so exhausted; now it's just odd days it wipes me off my feet. Luckily with covid I've been told to stay off work sick, so I've been able to rest as much as I need to, thankfully I've managed to avoid catching it too!!

I can't believe how impatient I am between appointments! It seems to be taking so long! Every step is waiting, it feels endless. So many weeks between each. And because I'm not feeling any movements and don't have many symptoms I'm constantly worrying whether it's ok in there!! I'm getting bigger but I equally can't tell if that's just from being off work for nearly nine weeks... I put on weight really quickly as it is.

Yeah we've bought a few bits already, pram/car seat system, swinging crib, a couple of bits of clothes etc. We've been gifted a bouncer too. We've got a list of everything else we want to buy, but we're holding off a little while now.

LittleMiss7 · 15/05/2020 13:14

@PostieGal hahaha! I could've written your post myself! 😂 I didn't really get much in the way of nausea expect for a handful of times and then it'd instantly go if I ate a biscuit or whatever I could lay my hands on. No food aversions either. But yeah the exhaustion was something else! Lockdown came at a good time from that respect as I spent the first couple of weeks just napping on the sofa (I've been furloughed) in the afternoons rather than struggling like I had been when we were still at work. Like you, I still get the odd day where I'm just tired and don't want to do anything and then another day, I'm fine again! Pregnancy is a strange ol' time lol!

Oh good, I'm glad it's not just me being impatient in between appointments 😂 The weeks fly by except for when I think about appointments and scans - then they seem to take forever to come around! And yeah, because you can't feel them move yet, you start worrying if all's OK etc. Roll on the next scan!

I'm like you, I put weight on quickly too so not sure if my tummy is babies or biscuits 😂 I used to run a few times a week but had to stop that early on as I've been so breathless so aside from walking, I'm not exercising which isn't helping the waistline either 🙈 are you still in your usual jeans? I've bought a few pairs of maternity jeans but there still a bit loose however they're soooo much comfier than squeezing into my normal jeans 😂 that said,I did buy a couple of bump bands which've been an absolute game changer!!

Oh wow! Sounds like you've got a good head start on all the main bits! 🙌🏻 I'm desperately trying to hold off on getting a pram til I can physically go in a shop and see them as I want to test drive them round the shop first 😂 xx

Report
PostieGal · 18/05/2020 07:47

@LittleMiss7 when's your 20 week scan? Mine's 10 days and counting!
No, I had to buy maternity jeans really early on! With the fatigue/nausea/dizziness I had to be put on amended duties at work from about six weeks. I'm a postwoman so I was used to walking ten miles a day carrying heavy bags all day, then doing a couple of gym sessions a week on top of that. As soon as I hit six weeks I couldn't keep up the pace so my walking was dramatically reduced and I worked in the office for most of my time. So as soon as my mileage dropped I piled on the pounds. My work clothes were already too tight by the time I went off at ten weeks "shielding" from covid. My last shift was 17th March, so it'll be nine weeks tomorrow since I worked at all and 13 weeks since I last did my normal mileage. Luckily I bought a load of new bras the weekend before lockdown because my boobs have grown even more than my waistline!! I also bought a couple of pairs of maternity gym leggings from Gap, and they've been my saviours, I've worn them loads and will keep wearing them when/if I go back to work. I sew, so I've spent a chunk of my time off making maternity dresses... that's kept me sane... and kept me off eBay too much! The biggest thing I'm actually missing is doing the food shop, because I've always taken the lead on that; but my OH has been great and taken it over so I don't have to worry about social distancing.

For exercise I did a class by @BumpsAndBurpees on Instagram last week, it was really good, I'd definitely recommend it!

Re: pram, we wanted to test drive, but found there's barely any physical baby shops that stock them anymore... we went shopping just before lockdown and searched all over for shops, all we could find was a Mama's & Papa's (which was too far away) or a Smyths... we went to the Smyths but they only had a couple to choose from. So we researched online instead. We went with the Cosatto Giggle 3 because it folds well in the boot and easily fits the car seat onto it.

@PostieGal mines on 1st June... 2 weeks today and honestly can't come fast enough 😂 I'm so tempted to book a private scan, just to check all's OK as aside from putting on weight, I can't say I feel particularly pregnant and keep worrying something's wrong! 🙈

Oh wow! So you were insanely active pre-pregnancy then? I can imagine trying to walk 10 miles per day with twins was pretty hard going, especially when you were so tired too 😞 it's good your work we're able to give you amended duties instead though. When did you tell them you were pregnant? Yeah, I had the tight work clothes issue early on too 😂 Id kept it a secret up until the week before lockdown but when they included pregnant women in the high risk group, I had to speak up as they were discussing others in the category working from home. As it was, on the first day of working from home, we were all put on furlough anyhoo! I could've kept it quieter for longer if I'd held on for literally a matter of days 😂 are you shielding for the 12 weeks as they initially advised or will you stay off work longer? I've no idea when we'll be working again yet - I recruit for the hospitality industry so if the hotels, pubs and restaurants don't open before Aug/Sep, I may not be going back at all! 🤷‍♀️ praying they do - I need to earn as much as poss before I go on mat leave! Twins are proving to be expensive and they're not even here yet lol! Good work on the bra shopping! Where did you get them from? I'm still in my usual bras at the mo - I'm not blessed in that area 😂 I'll have to check out the bump and burpees classes! They sound interesting! Are they hard? I stopped running at about wk7/8 as I was so breathless and aside from walking, I've not done any 🙈 I used to run a couple of times a week, do body pump and step aerobics but with the gym shut, I've not done any classes since about Feb 🙊 well done for making your own maternity dresses!! That's fab! Will be nice for you to choose your own patterns etc and wear something different to others. I find the maternity ranges aren't great. I usually buy petite clothes as I'm only 5ft 3 but apparently when you're pregnant, you're all the same height! 🙄 ahh bless your husband! ❤️ have you tried getting a click and collect slot for one of your local shops? We've done C&C at Tesco for about 4yrs now so have been trying to continue doing that as we also shop for my elderly dad too. I'm petrified of any of us going in a shop as not everyone seems to want to keep their distance! 😢

Oh that's interesting - I didn't realise not many shops stock prams! This is where having Mothercare around still would be handy - they always had loads!! I didn't even realise that Smyths even sold prams! I'll have to have a nose 😊 we'll have to go to Southampton I think to properly try prams out as although there's a baby centre in Bournemouth, they only stock 1 of the 2 prams we want to look at. Good excuse to go to Byron Burger if we go to Soton too 😂😍 I'm gonna google the giggle 3 in a mo - don't think I've heard of that one xx

@LittleMiss7 we had a private scan at 9 weeks to check there was only one in there because we couldn't wait until the nhs 12 week scan, it's a balance of whether you can afford it and how impatient you're feeling. I'm so glad we did though because that's the only time my OH has seen his baby on screen because it was just before lockdown.

I told work at 7 weeks I think, it was when I was no longer able to physically do the work at the required pace (I had to keep stopping to ease the dizziness, and to eat to ease the nausea) if I didn't tell them I was pregnant I would have been pulled up for not completing my work quickly enough.
I'm just taking it week by week at the mo, our pregnancy coronavirus sickness policy is being extended a couple of weeks at a time in line with gov guidance. RM aren't really used to dealing with pregnancy, so they'd rather we were just off sick instead of getting in the way 😂 About 80% of posties are men, and the women generally join after childbearing age, the hours are great for mums with school age kids, approx 8.30am-2.30pm six days per week.

I got my bras from M&S, but I'm planning on getting my nursing bras from H&M. I've never been blessed in that dept, until now!! They were the first things to grow 😂

Oooh body pump is great for pregnancy!! I'm an instructor (not been teaching for about a year though)... try Les Mills On Demand, there's loads of amazing workouts on there!! Some without equipment. But you can do BP without proper weights... use bottles of water! And you can do body step without a step (though it feels weird) but I bought a step off amazon for about £15.

Good luck with the pram research, I think Cosatto's double pram is called the "Wow XL", the giggle only comes in a single. Completely agree, mothercare is so needed, and greatly missed in sure!

@PostieGal ahh bless you. We were the same. I think we had our early scan the week before lockdown and I'm so pleased we did otherwise hubby wouldn't have been to any scans. I feel so sorry for him as all the men must feel quite left out. It's also very daunting I find, going to the appointments on your own not knowing what to expect.

That's good news re work. At least you can be at home through some of the worst symptoms too and just take it easy. Do you have any idea when you think you'll start mat leave?

Hahaha! Lucky you!! I'm still waiting to make up for lost time on the lady lump front 😂 I did see a very nice mat bra on one site (might've been M&S - not sure) but until they expand, I'm gonna keep wearing my usual bras. They're not uncomfortable yet!

Oh wow! That's handy to know - thank you!! 😘 do you know if Les Mills on demand is free? I used to love my BP classes! Got some weights etc on the garage and a step box so I've got all I need lol! Not tried a Les Mills Step before. Is it freestyle do you know? Really missing being able to run though. I can feel my love handles coming back 🙄

I checked out the Cosatto range of prams! I LOVE their funky patterns! So nice to have a pattern as opposed to a block colour. And they're a really good price too!! Unfortunately I wasn't so keen on their tandem pram though. There's so many nice single ones out there!! X

@LittleMiss7 I know, like how would they break the news to us, alone, if something was seriously wrong? The 20 week scan is all about anomalies. I don't think I'm strong enough to find out on my own if something isn't right. I'd like to know how they're tackling that.

Mat leave is triggered automatically if you're off sick within the four weeks prior to due date, so if I'm still off due to corona on 15th sept it will start then. Otherwise I'd hope to work as long as possible. How about you?

Les Mills On Demand is about £8 per month I think, but there's usually a free trial available. None of the LM classes are freestyle, they're all pre-choreographed so all instructors internationally teach to the same standards (supposedly). Freestyle is when one instructor writes their own choreography for their own classes. So in BP (or any other LM class) whenever you hear a particular music track you should always be doing the same moves. It's so you can get used to it week after week, then they change it after 6-12 weeks once your body is too used to it.

@PostieGal I feel sorry for them in that situation too. It can't be nice for them to have to break bad news to someone at the best of time's, but moreso when the pregnant woman is alone and has no one to comfort her 😢 the 20wk scan is worrying me for the same reason. I think I'll get really panicky and upset if they say something's wrong... and then I've still got to go and tell my husband 😢 dreading it but at the same time I'm excited to find out their sex. When's your 20wk scan?

Oh! Eeek! Hopefully we'll all be living a little more normally by then so hopefully you won't have to start mat leave early. I'm due 20/10 but they'll be delivered by wk37 if they don't come of their own accord beforehand but from reading online, most twin mums to be start mat leave at 28-30wks! Seems v early to me so gonna hold off confirming with work til July so I can see how I'm getting on. I don't need to tell them til then anyhoo but would like to give them as much notice as poss.

Ah ok. I don't think I've done a LM step class before then: the one I usually do is freestyle so we're pirouetting around the box etc lol! Need to do something though - I've not exercised at all this week! 🙈 best get on the case lol!

xx

@LittleMiss7 I called the hospital today to check about him coming in to the scan tomorrow, unfortunately its still a "no". So I asked about being given bad news alone, and they said if there was any bad news I could call him in from the car to join the appointment. It's worth checking if your hospital is doing the same. At least we could be comforted if needs be, but now he's fearing getting a phone call while I'm in the appointment as it can only mean bad news.

Yeah hold off confirming with work if you can! And if you get to the 37 week mark you will know what date you will be going in to have them.

How's the exercise going this week? I've been reluctant to go out since lockdown has been eased, I fear there are too many complacent people around, acting as if the virus has disappeared, so I'm choosing to stay in and stay safe. Our flat has a balcony so I'm spending a lot of time out there getting fresh air and sunshine.

Report
LittleMiss7 · 28/05/2020 13:27

@PostieGal hope all goes well today ❤️ it's nice to know the hospital does have a plan in place for instances where that may come up but I'm sure you'll be fine 😊

Hmm... what exercise?! 🙈😂 I went for a short 2km walk around the block late last night but it's just too hot during the day at the mo. Never thought I'd hear myself saying that! 😂 have you done much exercise this week? I must be honest, since lockdown eased we've seen less people whilst out walking as they're all off in their cars or down the beach! Suits me... I don't have to keep crossing back and forth to avoid people lol xx
