Ok. So just realised our thread had been moved and closed so I hope you all find your way back to this one!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Congratulations @Jowd92 !
I had a sweep yesterday at 40+5. It really reassured me as I was in a panic that the baby wasnt going to be engaged, cervix would be all hard and closed, and I'd end up with christmas eve induction (also convinced myself that it would all go wrong and I'd be stuck on a drip all christmas day).
My midwife was surprised as I was already 3cm and nice and soft, so looking favourable! Baby is still a little high, but I have a tilted cervix and she said it all seemed to be working together nicely.
I had awful back pain last night, but it's much better this morning and no twinges as yet. Going to do the last of the christmas food shop this morning so hoping that will start things off (hopefully not right in the middle of asda though!)

jpaws · 18/12/2019 09:03

@Jowd92 congratulations, happy for you that he is now here 😊

bespokepaininthearse · 18/12/2019 09:44

@Jowd92 congratulations! I hope you get to go home with your baby soon!

@TTc2019BabyNo1 you will know when it is contractions don't worry, it's just the lead up to it that can be so uncertain, I went 2 weeks over with my first and had nothing at all before my contractions started, so I still feel clueless this time round, I have had a lot of period pains and tightenings, I have had some leaking so am sure my plug is on it's way out, I'm hoping this is all setting me up to start very soon 🤞🏼 lots of walking and bouncing for us then!

December2019 · 18/12/2019 10:25

@Jowd92 congratulations on the arrival of your little one 😍 it's such a massive relief when you have them in your arms 💜
I've been having period pains and backache too and my tummy felt off last night but nothing since... a little bit of leaking but I think it's probably wee 😮 as I can feel pressure on my bladder all the time lol
Come on babies get a move on!! X

Comps83 · 18/12/2019 11:37

Luckily it was yet another Different midwife who said she didn’t see the point or any positives in doing it early so I’m going back on Monday, which is still early but I’m giving him a further 5 days incubating which can’t be a bad thing . She said this front of Dh too which made me feel Pretty vindicated

Induction booked for New Year’s Eve too !

bespokepaininthearse · 18/12/2019 11:56

Baby is now fully back to back and head has popped out of place because it's turned round, induction booked for 9th January 😭😭😭

Dec19baby · 18/12/2019 12:59

@bespokepaininthearse aw I'm sorry to hear this!! Was the baby engaged before this?? I was told it was unlikely baby would move once engaged?

bespokepaininthearse · 18/12/2019 13:03

@Dec19baby yep baby was 2/5 engaged, I was also told that it wouldn't be able to pop out once in 2/5's. But nope baby is fully in the wrong position which is hugely frustrating. Am assuming the pains and belly aches and back aches is due to baby turning round now rather than being ready 😭

Dec19baby · 18/12/2019 13:09

That's so unnerving to hear!! Sad sorry to hear you're in pain Sad I'm only 1/5 at my last appointment and asked would it come back out and was told highly unlikely.. coz I'm a bit worried about getting in back to back position

jpaws · 18/12/2019 13:33

@Comps83 ahh that's good news on the sweep for you :D

@bespokepaininthearse oh no that's not what you want to hear at this stage :( maybe baby will change back round? and soon?

I went to triage last night as baby had been very quiet through the day, had two MWs look at me and although the monitoring was fine (typically baby decided to make his presence known again once hooked up) they have booked me for a growth scan today to double check everything is okay. Only measuring 38cm and the second MW said I needed to have him soon as he's not got much room left, he was also laid across but still engaged. With how they described it, it's a wonder he's comfy at all!

TTc2019BabyNo1 · 18/12/2019 13:44

@bespokepaininthearse oh no!! I’m so sorry to hear that!! Have you just had an appointment? Hopefully baby will move back, do lots of yoga poses - cat-cow and go on all fours as much as you can, that’s meant to help.

If it’s any consolation, I’ve just had a good cry after my 39 week appointment as induction is looking like a real possibility and we’re not going to get out Christmas pudding after all.
She’s STILL only 3/5 engaged, been like that for weeks. And where I am she said they do not offer sweeps before 40 weeks so I now have to wait until next Saturday for a sweep!

@jpaws how many weeks are you now? Mines 38cm and I feel like she’s bloody massive and so scared she’s not going to fit out of my narrow hips.

I’m totally fed up today 😭, I don’t want to be induced and I don’t want to continue with this pelvic pain for another three weeks 😭!

Dec19baby · 18/12/2019 14:05

I have read that usually babies don't fully engage until labour anyway, so being 3/5 engaged would be very good, and wouldn't expect more until you're in actual labour?

I understand the pelvic pain Sad mines definitely gotten worse since 38 weeks.

If you're only 39 weeks you've still plenty of time before you need to think about induction, unless there's a clinical need to get baby out?

TTc2019BabyNo1 · 18/12/2019 14:29

@Dec19baby ah yes sorry I meant 3/5 palpable so only 2/5 of the head is in :(.

I think it’s because she was explaining induction and said that I’ll only be allowed 2 sweeps and if they don’t work I’ll be back in for induction so I’ve got myself worked up. Plus sleep-deprivation is probably making me see everything in a negative light!

Sorry about your pelvic pain, how many weeks are you now?? I can’t wait to be able to sit down for longer than 2 mins! Lol!

Dec19baby · 18/12/2019 14:34

Can totally understand you getting worked up, think we all are at some point at this stage Sad I personally think the medical staff talk about induction way too soon which puts a lot of pressure on women. Full term is anything up to 42 weeks so talking about it (without any special circumstance) at 38+ weeks is just not appropriate in my opinion.

I'm 39 +3. Sleeping is a nightmare with my pelvis atm! Pillows galore all around me, and getting up and in when I go to the bathroom (lost count how many times) is really sore. I actually cannot wait until I can roll over without a moment's thought about how I'll do it lol

Comps83 · 18/12/2019 14:42

Midwife told me this morning that they only allow you to go 1 week over now, not sure if that is just for first timers . Think it changed a long with the doing a sweep a week early rule last year

OP posts:
TTc2019BabyNo1 · 18/12/2019 15:41

It must definitely differ from place to place because she said to me 42 weeks for induction and no sweep allowed before 40...!
How odd that the nhs isn’t consistent?

Dec19baby · 18/12/2019 16:04

For starters, there's no "allowed" in it. You consent to everything. No one will make a woman go through an induction at any point unless it's informed consent.

And I hate the way this country is like a postcode lottery when it comes to things like health! It's so very inconsistent! Here in my trust in Scotland you are offered a sweep for first timers at 39 weeks. And they would then offer induction to start at 41+3. Really should be consistent and in line with guidelines, but I guess every hospital takes what they prefer from guidelines then! Makes it so much harder for us all to understand.

Skb90 · 18/12/2019 16:21

Hello all, I had my 38 week appointment and growth scan, everything is fine but they did already book for a sweep and an induction date a day before my birthday. However, it threw me slightly as I do not want to think about intervention until absolutely needed so I will probably leave the sweep and wait until 42 weeks at least for an induction if necessary. Due date is just a guestimate so I'm trying to stay positive and enjoying last few days relaxing :)

Dec19baby · 18/12/2019 16:50

@Skb90 I'm totally the same frame of mind as you. It baffles and annoys me that they just book induction dates when the woman is only 38 weeks! It's ridiculous in my opinion. Low risk pregnancies there's just no need.
Glad to hear scan went okay, and definitely try to relax these last few weeks!

Nixby3 · 18/12/2019 17:20

Hi all! I have a c-section planned for tomorrow because baby was breech at 37 weeks. Fingers crossed she's turned because I'm terrified!!

Dec19baby · 18/12/2019 23:01

@Nixby3 good luck!! I'm sure all will be well, I hope you can relax soon and just think you'll have your baby soon!

jpaws · 18/12/2019 23:45

@TTc2019BabyNo1 I'm 41 weeks today, had a sweep at 40 & booked for another tomorrow. Induction is booked for this Saturday. Cant say I wanted an induction but getting quite fed up with hip pain at night now. Had growth scan today and hes doing fine, just running out of room! Hoping the midwife can tell me I'm further along tomorrow and things start naturally before Sat but probably wishful thinking.

starflake · 19/12/2019 02:51

Well she arrived last night at 8.13pm weighing 8lb 12oz. She's gorgeous, I had a tough old day of it & glad it's over! Ended up in theatre to get placenta removed & had a forceps delivery. Epidural saved my life yesterday, though the contractions were going to kill me 😂 they actually gave me an injection yesterday morning to stop them as I was only 1cm and labouring like I was 7cm. No drip or anything, just 2 gels & after 2nd gel contractions started straight away. Next time it's a section for sure 😂

Christmas babies part 3!
