Just thought I'd get the shiny new thread up and running. Well done Twit on the thread name

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dal21 · 22/08/2007 20:50

God - how on earth are we going to hang in for another 6-7 weeks? From the first of sept we are going to be like racehorses wanting to get out of our boxes!

It is really tough thinking about 2 birth scenarios at such a late stage. I was buying for my hospital bag today and bypassed the glucose tablets/ bendy straws etc...just incase next week a nat deliver was ruled out. Better start my perineum massage and rlt though. are you all doing it yourself or are DP/H's giving a helping hand (so to speak)

Norfolkbumpkin · 22/08/2007 20:51

Basically, if you have a had a show which is just like egg white/snot (lurvley!) and completely clear, does this mean things are imminent or are things down there just getting ready for any time in the next how ever may weeks?

FlossALump · 22/08/2007 20:52

Hello lulumama! Also I had some of the snot on sunday and then more today - is it possible to loose the show in stages? I thought I did with DS too.

emalushka · 22/08/2007 21:06

Wow. Many congratulations to Lou on our first baby. Good weight and a beautiful name too. How exciting.

Being a first time mum, I don't feel qualified to offer advice, but I did get the snotty kind of discharge about 2 weeks ago. I didn't think anything of it at the time and it stopped after about 4 days. I thought a show was when it had blood in it too? I don't know.

Hope everyone is well - you can tell we are on all on mat leave! I can't keep up with these posts. xx

Chattyhan · 22/08/2007 21:12

My views on shows for those with questions. Not everyone has one! Can be all sorts of colours/consistancies but generally snotty and lots have dry blood streaks! It's the mucus plug that has blocked cervix for last 9 months! Can come away in one blob or serveral blobs. It was 1 week for me between show and waters breaking last time. Nothing to worry about although mention to midwife if you're seeing her anyway! If fresh blood need to get checked out!

Discharge generally increases in last month anyway so some of you might be experiencing this! If its smelly or itchy could be an infection!

dal21 · 22/08/2007 21:12

have quickly googled this - and the snot like discharge can be early show apoparently. but doesnt mean labour is necessarily imminent. am sure lulu will come back with a more coherent answer!

MrsFish · 22/08/2007 21:18

Blimey ladies, please slow down on the typing, I have been out for one day and there is suddenly a weeks worth of posts to catch up on. I'm sorry but have not managed to read every one of them and have no chance of catching up individually so I shall just start afresh again tomorrow.

Apart from saying CONGRATULATIONS to Lou, so glad to hear everything worked out well, and I love the name

Whoa what a day, I'm knackered! Got to nursery for 8.45am, it was 9.45am before we had got everyone on the coach in their car seats, 20 kids, 10 adults. Set off for the zoo, stopped at 10.10am due to a flat tyre then had to wait for another coach to come out to us and then preceded to have to get everyone off and back on the new coach. Set off again at 10:50am so not too bad considering, but the kids weren't happy. Got to the zoo (Twycross) at about 11.40 and the weather which had been nice and turned very grey and windy and cold... brrrr! luckily it brightened up later and by the time we left to come home at 4pm it was quite hot.

Got home at 5.40pm and passed Sam over to the babysitter at 6pm and left to go and pick up DH fom work to go for our hospital tour at 7pm. Got home 30 mins ago, my feet and legs ache and I am really tired, off to bed soon. Oh and now I have had the tour its bought it all into stark reality, I DON'T WANT TO DO LABOUR AGAIN aaarrgghh! I'm scared

lulumama · 22/08/2007 21:36

sorry! my phone rang..

basically, the show is a snot like discharge, can come away in one lump, or in bits..can be bloody or clear...yellowish, or white, NOT green

it is the plug that seals the cervix so basically means that the cervix is starting to dilate, can mean labour is imminent, or not !!

you can get heavier discharge in late pregnancy, which is normal...but anything green, itchy or with a bad odour needs checking.can mistake this discharge for a show..but the texture of the show is thicker, more mucousy and snotty !

HTH !

JemimaPuddleduck07 · 22/08/2007 21:56

I've had the same kind of greenish/yellow snotty (sorry if TMI)discharge and was beginning to think I had an infection.

Congratulations Lou, that's lovely news.

MrsMar, Ihave to see the Dr at 38 weeks instead of the midwife. Apparently it's "new government guidelines" so that drs are aware that our babies are imminent. My only problem is that my surgery have just realised that I moved a year ago and I am now out of their catchment area and so the practice manager has requested that I find a closer Dr - charming!

JemimaPuddleduck07 · 22/08/2007 21:59

Just read Lulu's advice re show. Hope I haven't got an infection. Will check again tomorrow..

MrsBumblebee · 22/08/2007 22:30

Blimey, ladies, you've all been chatty. First time I've been on today, as I've spent ALL DAY cooking for the freezer. Now absolutely knackered, but lots of nice food to look forward to (Dal, thanks for the reference to lentils and curries - gave me the idea of making tons of my favourite dahl recipe for the freezer. It's really lovely, and the only vegetarian thing dh will eat with enthusiasm .)

Haven't had time to catch up with all posts, I'm afraid, but CONGRATULATIONS LOU!! So pleased that the first baby's here, and what a beautiful name!

Not much news from me, except that MW yesterday told me that LO is already 2/5 engaged . I didn't think he'd dropped at all. The indigestion is certainly as bad as ever. Maybe it's just my cooking . Oh well, at least it spurred me on to finally finish packing my hospital bag. All I need now is some nursing bras, and I'm done.

Right, I'm off to collapse into bed. Hope everyone gets a good night's sleep.

kelmcd · 22/08/2007 22:37

i reallyhope that he isn't too late in making his appearance, my mum is coming from Aus. and is only here for 4 weeks, would mess everythng up
i am always glad to ask any questions, feel free to ask away, i am probably worried bout the same things.
i am feeling quite left out as have had no show, but not really expecting it yet.
Shows like most other pregnancy stuff can means loads, might mean you'll labour soon might not, can be bloody and can be just the mucousy stuff, but as mentioned before anything green in colour should be checked out
Mrsmar- if your midwife aint sure about whether bub is breech or not you really should be having a scan to check. not sure how your hosp works but either make a clinic appointment or you can go to the day unit if there is one. At least you will be able to prepare if he id breech

PurpleLostPrincess · 22/08/2007 22:56

Surely over 100 posts in one day is some sort of record!?

Lou - CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Soooo pleased for you and your family, how lovely and such a beautiful name! Best wishes to all of you and hope the jaundice is completely clear now! xx

HIWBB, trinity, twit, fiofio - how are you all doing?

HIWBB - how did the visit from FIL go?

chattyhan - glad DS has settled down now!

Loopylou - you've got a great attitute about the whole DSS situation, glad you're sticking to your guns!

Floss - my mum can't go without commenting that I won't go full term every single time I see her! She came with me to the hospital today and even asked the consultant if he thinks I'll make it to 40 weeks (like he has a crystal ball or something!!). I too have had worries about whether things will go smoothly or not but I'm sure its quite normal (?!). Glad you've got your pram - isn't ebay great!!!

toadstool - phew on not being admitted! Hope all continues to go as best as possible!

kerri - hope you decide on whatever is best for you. As the others have said, you know your body best - let us know how you get on!?

willjo - glad to have you back!

Filbrit and rin - hellooooo!!!

hannahsaunt - not long to your maternity leave now, bet your relieved!

Pennypops - how are you feeling now? Hope you've cheered up?

MrsMar - sorry there's doubt over the position, hope it all becomes clear soon! I had to ask the consultant today what the position was as he was a bit fluffy when he had a feel - not at all informing!!

ECATLM and dal - LOL at your hospital bags and George Bush! I've kind of got mine done but then I've still got 5 weeks to go... Might finish it off tomorrow!!!!

kyala - how was the carrot cake? Yummy!! We used to have a bread maker but we didn't use it enough to justify the room it took up so sadly got rid of it

holly - welcome home and glad you had a nice holiday!?

dal - well done on getting to the flat pack stuff before DP - I'm exactly the same!!

MrsFish - glad you got the tour done, we're hoping to do it this weekend...

My DC's are 13 and nearly 9 and they are soooo excited! I've never known a 13 year old boy to be so into babies and so interested in the whole thing!! DD1 keeps asking if baby is awake which was lovely at first but I have to say I've been getting fed up of her asking!!!! They've been really helpful around the house bless them, DS even lifts the mood sometimes by announcing that there's a wide load coming through when I get up to go to the loo!

Can I ask, is arnica only meant to be used when you know you're having a cs or is it a general thing?

I've managed to get more baby washing done but DH still hasn't decorated the nursery. Can't complain because he has been at work every day - he's planning on getting loads done this weekend and seems to be doing well health wise (thank goodness!).

I expect there'll be tonnes more posts by the time I've typed this lol!

Goodnight all and hugs to anybody I haven't mentioned xoxoxoxoxo

PLP 35+4

PurpleLostPrincess · 22/08/2007 23:01

MrsBumbleBee - well impressed with you doing so much cooking!! You've reminded me I must get a nursing bra - I keep reading on here that some people wait till the last couple of weeks but I think I'll just get one anyway!

kelmcd - don't worry, I haven't had a show yet either but like you, I'm not expecting one just yet...

Sleep tight!! xx

LoopyLouLisa · 23/08/2007 01:57

plp, thank you so much. couldn't have got this far without mners to help and advise me. arnica can be used for whichever method of delivery. spoke to my mw today and her advice is to start taking 24hours before elec cs, or as soon as labour starts. my mum used to rub arnica cream on our bruises when we were children as it brings out the bruise much quicker and calms the swelling thus promoting faster healing. for childbirth, or any operation, it's obviously more practical to take the tablets (they're much smaller than even 'the pill' tablets and just taste sugar-like) but even natural childbirth will cause internal bruising so i say go for it as you've nothing to lose. i have yet to hear of someone trying it and not believing it helped.

can't sleep again tonight. i really think it's our body's way of preparing us for the early days and the erratic sleeping pattern of a newborn and programming us to survive on a stupid amount of sleep. never mind, the ability to sleep will come back again. i remember when ds1 was very young i stood in the kitchen waiting for a bottle to warm and i actually drifted off standing up! you know when your head flops forward and you lift it up with a jolt a few minutes later? i never thought it was possible before that and i thought people made it up (i'm the sort of person who finds it impossible to sleep in car/aeroplane/armchair/etc) omg, are those days really coming again so soon? i think i ate copious amounts of chocolate too in those early days as i needed to wake up quickly. i am soooooo looking forward to being able to drink as much caffiene as i like to stay awake. suppose i should stock up on the red bull this weekend when i go shopping....

I'm up. Can't sleep. Sulking cause DP wouldn't let me play solitaire on his phone in bed. The light will 'disturb' him. Don't see it myself when several kicks prods and punches in the night when he is snoring doesn't. Still feeling generally uncomfy, niggly pains. Getting really annoyed with myself for wondering if this really is the start of something - I could very well have 5 more weeks to go. Have an ante natal check up with GP this morning anyway.

Hope you are all having better nights sleep than me!!

Can't believe those who have been off to zoo's, all day cooking sessions have the energy TBH! Actually, thinking about that, would now, with DS still in bed not be an ideal time to catch up with some house work? If I were working I'd be up in half an hour anyway!

Thanks for th show advice lulumama!

Morning all!

You can definitely tell that most of us are now on maternity leave. How many posts? I am feeling a little off this morning but reckon that is because I did so much walking yesterday.
Here is a question - when you are waking up in the night, is it hunger related? Took me a while to figure out, but was up at 3am again this am - had a yogurt and that settled me believe it or not, has worked both times again.

I know what you all mean ref kicks etc, this LO is starting to deliver some belters that stop me in my tracks. Pains go shooting right down my legs. When I think I could have another 7 weeks of this; i stop thinking about that pretty rapidly!

Floss/ Loopy - sorry you had restless nights!

PLP - that is great news that DH is doing a lot better! You must be relieved! We are going to bits and bobs on the house this weekend do - does it ever stop? I dont think it does.

Re all the shows, I am getting heavier vag discharge, but nothing like the mucus you are all describing. It must be so exciting for you all!

Going to keep my feet up all morning, catch up soon.

kyala · 23/08/2007 08:28

Carrot cake all gone now!

Can't believe I'm actually up at this time of the morning LOL
I'm actually really upset and can't get back to sleep, DH and I have had a bit of a to-do about where to leave DD when I go into labour!
The plan was to take her to his parent's (although, he now says this was never the plan!! Where else was she going? We don't have anyone else to rely on on short notice!) And he wants to leave her with our neighbour's two door's down (we've barely spoken to these people in the 2 years we've lived here, I thnik it's cos they've got kids that he's not worried that they could be nutters LOL)
So, I told him last night that, actually, I don't even like them and that, when he'd told me about her offering to take DD in the first place I had protested (Why would I want to leave her with strangers? And why would they offer, we barely speak!) and he said that I was now making it up and that I had originally agreed to it (I know I'd never agree to it cos I don't like them! LOL But he's having none of it and is blaming me being pregnant, fair enoguh, but if he thinks I'm letting him take DD to their's I'm not going to tell him when I go into labour! HA!)
Ooh this should be on AIBU, shouldn't it, but then I know I'm not being unreasonable, I'm being cautious about who I leave my child with!

Oh, I should also add that he worked with abused children for over 8 years, you would've thought he'd have a bit more common sense when it comes to his own child?! (Knowing full well that children are abused by neighbours and friends of family more often than complete strangers!)

Rant over, on with the day:

Wish I'd have logged on earlier, could kept you company Floss Oh well

Plans for the day: Take DD to HV, get charity vouchers so we can eat this month and then off to a friend's so she can feed me too
This being my American friend that I was reminded to text yesterday, thanks to you mumnetter's I rarely forget thing's like my friends anymore LOL

Hope you all have a better day than I'm about to, I'm bound to get to my friend's and burst into tears about all this, it's such a stupid thing to be arguing about (and just think, it's not like we can have good old 'make-up sex' when it's done with either! )

It's a lovely morning though! I might just get on and do some washing before DD wakes Have a good one you lot
xxx

FlossALump · 23/08/2007 08:44

Well I washed up, did the dusting, applied oven cleaner, had a cup of tea and went back to bed, just in time for DP to get up for work. I've been lucky today, DS usually up around 7, this morning though a lie in until 8.10! Hurray! I'm thinking the pains I'm getting are just baby getting more engaged IYSWIM?

Dal, I don't think it was related to hunger, I had a chocolate mousse and regretter it! Mine is usually because I get up for my twice nightly wee and either my mind starts going into overdrive or else I'm aware of tummy soreness.

Kyala, I don't think yabu. I don't understand why he doesn't want to ask his parents? We are planning on DS going to SIL's if he needs to. I have got some friends I can ask if that goes tits up. PIL are kind of the last resort for us. Probably the kind of equivilant of you sending your DD to the neighbours - only difference being is that both of us feel the same about it!

PurpleLostPrincess · 23/08/2007 09:11

Good morning all!

I managed a solid 3 hours sleep in the night - yay! Not sure if I feel any better for it but I'm not going to complain! After that of course I was up every hour having a wee but I noticed they were BIG wee's this time instead of little trickles lol!

Just going to sit around for the morning and try to muster up the energy to get a few bits done - I really don't know how you guys do it!!!

kyala, you're not being unreasonable - I hate it when they suddenly change the plan!! Hope you enjoy seeing your friend today

Floss - DH was picked up at 7am this morning and I have to say it was bliss lying there while he went off! (I have spent the last 5 years working while he lay in bed!!). Still couldn't sleep past 8am though but as I say I'm just happy I got that 3 hours in! LOL at solitaire in bed!

LLL - thanks I think I'll get some arnica then, can't do any harm!

Dal, I will email you now with the details.

Chattyhan · 23/08/2007 09:20

Dal - those shooting pains in your legs sound like sciatica! When your LO is trapping the sciatic nerve. There are a few excersizes that can help if you want to google or ask on here!

Kyala - sorry about your worries over where DD will go. We have a simular problem. MIL will have DS but she works and lives 2 hrs away! I have a history of fast labour and can't wait 2 hrs! So we've been advised just to take DS with us to the hospital and get MIL to meet us there.

I don't know if any resident midwifes can help with whether they've experience of other children present???

But i'm envisaging DP will stay with DS in the TV room while i deliver if neccessary! I know this will put my mind at rest rather than him being left with people i don't know!
