Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

it takes about 15-20 minutes to get to the hospital. I have to go in as soon as my contractions start because I need drugs for GBS, with Dd2 I was in deliverly for 12 hours, but only in proper labour for 1 hour, but that was becasue the MW refused to examined me and when someone finally did I was already 8cms.

fiona76 · 21/09/2007 14:47

I have been laughing at all your forgetful stories. I double booked myself today and then forgot both!! But rebooked appointment for this afternoon and meeting friend next week so all is not lost (apart from my mind of course)
On the topic of mums at the birth- My mum is a midwife but in NZ she is booked to come out a week after my due date to help with the baby. I plan to have a calm birth with lovely DH and me ( and some of those motherly midwives hopefully) My best friend waschatting away last night and was saying how she will be there through it all. How do I tell her I only want DH!! Don't get me wrong I love her dearly but she's not had any herslf and I don't really want an audience. Migh make DH feel a bit weird too.
Saying that I'll probably ring her at the first contraction and beg her to come!

its your baby and you choose who is there, not your friend. Just tell her that you only want DH there

fiona76 · 21/09/2007 14:53

No at hospital. I hope to stay home as long as poss though my sister was in hospital for about 20hours.

Thats a good idea

sarahloumadam · 21/09/2007 15:33

Well now you have all made me feel v.common for just wanting toast and lurpak - I don't even want multiseed just plain white bread will do . I have really been craving vodka and tonic recently so maybe I'll have that on a drip with a wedge of lemon - thats considered posh in these parts .

sarahloumadam · 21/09/2007 15:36

Fiona - I am also being economical with the truth and telling MIL that they don't allow relatives (apart from birthing partners) to visit until the baby is born. I love her to bits but I just know that even the thought of her being in the waiting room will stop my labour! I can't even produce a wee sample to order fgs!

RGPargy · 21/09/2007 16:01

Sarah - I only like white bread too!!

I think it'll have to be white bread toast with a THICK spread of pate, whilst sipping pink champagne and eating handfuls of peanuts!

Hello all,

Congrats SGK on your new niece. That is just so exciting. Have you met her yet? Is she gorgeous?

Well I have just got back from nipping up to the Co-op for some salad for dinner. I came back with some chocolate brownies, baking potatoes, olives and yummy fruit, but (yes - you guessed it) no salad. DH then called and said did I need him to pick anything up on his way home so I said no, I'd go back up - it's a nice walk, he then pointed out that I am actually at home because I am supposed to be waiting in for the curtain lady. I have just signed a new will today - do you think I am mentally competent?

littleoldme · 21/09/2007 17:37

SGK - Congrat on being an Auntie again. My sis had her second yesterday - well chuffed.

LOL at at the all the cabbage brains that seem to be about. I've spent the afternoon trying to prepare 3hours worth of a level lessons on effing Tennyson. I'm not a poetry fan at the best of times but right now my brain can't cope with stuff like ... just realised I'm ranting sorry.

On the plus side I managed to go a swim today for the first time in about a gazillion weeks. Felt great. I rewarded myself with a huge piece of pie when I got home.

Loopy - a little nesting perchance? (DH loves chelsea buns - sadly mine tend to be too much like chelsea pensioners' bums (bit bland and insubstantial ) for his taste)

Sparkly - huge congrats on your new niece. Hope she and your sis are doing fabbily

FCH - you talking about mental competence reminded me that my sis (works for Dept of Work & Pensions) mentioned recently that from 1 Oct it's going to cost around £700 to arrange power of attourney if you/loved one become incapacitated. If you act now, you can do a thing called Enduring Power of Attourney (which is free). Apparently you just complete the forms, stick it with all your other papers, and if something happens (way, way off in the future) it's all sorted. My mum's just done one and we're going to do one too as it's such a jolly good idea?

just for the record - as soon as this one's out I would really like (in this specific order):
builders' tea with thick white toast covered in lashings of very cold butter,
fizzy vimto with a banana and marmite sandwich on wholegrain bread, and followed by
champagne with a big pack of M&S sushi and a chocolate mousse

can you tell how limited I've been feeling yet?

littleoldme · 21/09/2007 20:10

mmmmmm love sushi....

sparklygothkat · 21/09/2007 20:37

ohhh she is lovely (my new niece) She is beautiful and made me a bit scared that I will have a tiny one soon..

Earlier in the thread I said it takes 15-20 minutes to get to the hospital, I left to see Lisad at 4pm, and it took me nearly 50 minutes to get the hospital, on the way home, the traffic going toward the hospital was terrible and tailedback all the way home (8 miles) so I just hope that I don;t go into labour between 4-6pm...

iris66 · 21/09/2007 20:39

Sparkly - was your niece early then?

RGPargy · 21/09/2007 20:41

Iris - you can have all of that except the champagne and sushi, cant you?

sparklygothkat · 21/09/2007 20:43

she was 2 weeks early, but the platenta (sp?) had failed again so she was tiny

iris66 · 21/09/2007 20:47

RG - forgot to add earlier - it's not the insulin that's the problem for me (though I do have a problem with being told I should be on it without any proper justification as to why things are considered so different this time around, especially since my sugar levels are lower and more stable) it's the fact that if I am on insulin there's apparently a greater risk of placental failure so I'd need to be induced at 38 weeks and risk having the kind of birth I had last time (ie drips & full monitoring throughout which limited movement & potentially increases the need for intervention) In short, I have a rather large bee in my bonnet over my choices in this.

iris66 · 21/09/2007 20:48

blimey - sound like she was a lucky little soul!. How did they know the placenta was failing (if you don't mind me asking)?

iris66 · 21/09/2007 20:50

RG - sadly I can't eat those at the moment - bread makes my sugar go through the roof and soft drinks are a definate no, no I will be gorging in just over 6 weeks though (all things being equal)

RGPargy · 21/09/2007 20:58

Iris - oooooh i see!! I can see why you are so het up about it now!

sparklygothkat · 21/09/2007 21:01

They didn't know the plactana was fsiling, all the growth scans said she was growing normally, but when the MW examined it, it was gritty and there was a huge chuck missing where Lisad had a bleed 2 days ago. She was very lucky, but unfortunely the clexane was given too late and it didn't work for her (Lisa has the same condition as me) She is going to have a word with the consultant because he refused to do doppler scans on her, even though she was measuring small

iris66 · 21/09/2007 21:01

I've been trying not to rant too much (not entirely sure I've succeeded though )

How's DS doing on the job front?
