I have to run telephone conference calls weekly at work and they have become progressively more difficult. I just forget what I'm saying halfway through a sentence , there is a silence and then all my staff start sniggering - then they try and help me out by guessing what I was going to say.

Think I've lost some credibility and today has probably been the final nail in the coffin. The person I was going to see rang me and asked why I was late for the meeting and where was i? (am never late). Had to confess I was in Wantage (we don't even have an office there) and when he asked why I was in wantage I had to admit I had no idea. They were all struggling to keep straight faces when I finally turned up nearly an hour late!!

I am really ready to start maternity leave but another 2 weeks to muddle through

aikigypsy · 20/09/2007 23:38

Brain? What's that? I'm pretty sure I left mine in Cambridge when I moved out a month ago. I'll have to pick it up when I go back to visit.

Meanwhile, I pounded the pavement for a couple of hours today, looking for temporary work -- substitute teaching and working in a shop are the two jobs I applied for. We'll see. No major commitment or brain work in either place, though I think teaching would be more tiring.

sparklygothkat · 20/09/2007 23:44

glad I am not the only one who is losing the plot then. I can bearly follow a conversion atm, my mind just wanders and then I remember that I should be listening to the other person.
Can't believe I have made it to 33 weeks with no hospital admissions, its fab!! I now have my MW's number in case I get worried about anything, because as she said, if I phoned the hospital with any worries, they would have me admitted within the blink of an eye, and then I won't be allowed out for days..

AnnainNZ · 21/09/2007 00:02

just got an email from a friend who was due at the end of October, she had to have emergency C/S 6 weeks early as she developed HELLP syndrome - similar to pre-eclampsia I think. Both she and her little girl doing really well but must have been scary! She only finished work 12 hours earlier, had a sore back and went to get it checked out, turned out she had this syndrome and was whipped in straight away for a section.

12 hours maternity leave before giving birth must be some kind of record! Anyway, her story has made me realise how quickly these things can develop so I am going to listen to my doctor and LIE DOWN and REST a lot!

superloopy · 21/09/2007 06:47

Iris - At the time my Mum was fab (and DH too) but she has since told me that it was difficult for her to see me in pain. She did also say she wouldn't have missed DD's birth for the world and especially being able to cuddle her so soon.
I guess you need to just chat about it with your Mum and maybe let her know that she can leave if it all gets too much for her. If that is how you feel.

iris66 · 21/09/2007 07:12

Morning Superloopy - thanks for that. I've found that it's really important for me to have emotional support. DH was lovely last time but a bit overawed by the whole thing, and he really doesn't do emotional stuff, in any shape or form, so to expect himn to give emotional support is a bit daft! I have a very good friend I could ask but think I'll sound out my mum first.

Vomit city seems to have left the building now thank goodness. We've got a full on day today of last minute shopping and packing for DD's exodus to Uni. Wish me luck!

I have a new niece

RGPargy · 21/09/2007 12:12

Morning everyone

Firstly, Congrats to Lisa!!!! And congrats to SGK for getting a shiny new niece! Oh and good news re DS2 staying put in the right place! Oh and as you're 33 weeks now, you're now 8 months, not 7 (10 months to a pregnancy). Why is it that pregnancy is always said to be 9 months? It'd be interesting to know!

Welcome Morethanamum!

Floanna - Oh the life of a paralegal, eh? Such glamour. I think paralegals get a worse deal than secretaries!! I'm so used to just bashing out stuff all day (i'm a property person really) but now that i'm in corporate, i cant believe how much time i have on my hands. It's a cushy job to sit here and get paid silly money or surfing the net but it's also very boring.

Loopy - glad you got your pc sorted out pronto. It's nice to know you have DH exactly where you want him!

Fiona - hope you're getting the hang of the abbreviations now. At the beginning i used to guess half the time but when i just couldn't get it, i would ask what it meant and then it would all fall into place. You get tested after you've made 50 posts. Glad your back's ok now too.

Choc - hope you're managing to rest some more and take care of yourself!

Anna - cant believe you cant get Jaffacakes in NZ!!! How DO you survive?!!! Hope you enjoy your Castaway weekend. Sounds lovely!

Aiki - Glad you are happy with your hospital's methods etc. It's a comfort to know that things are going your way.

superloopy - Queen size beds in the delivery room??? Wowsers!! Sounds great that you get to settle in there for the whole time too.

Littleoldme - Glad you also feel better about your hospital. When i was in labour with DS1 my mum came to the hospital as well as ex-DP. It was great having her there at the time, but now i dont think i'd want her there for this little one's arrival. I think that as my DP and i are uber-close, it will be lovely to just have a very personal birth day with just us two and a midwife or two, IYSWIM (Fiona, that means "if you see what i mean" ). It's a personal choice tho so no one can decide except for you and your mum! I would like a nice chunky little 7lb baby and a 30 minute labour please. I wouldn't want to miss any Jezza Kyle!!!

Pixie - I washed some baby stuff a few weeks ago when i first got them. They're now in a carrier bag on top of our wardrobe. Do you think they'll be alright when baby arrives or do you think they'll need re-washing?? If they're sealed in a bag and it's only a few weeks i should think they'd be ok, wouldn't they?

Iris - Gutted that your consultant wants to stick you on insulin. I hope your sugar levels do sort themselves out. It must be horrible to have to inject and i totally sympathise with everyone who does!

Silkcushion - PMSL at you going to Wantage!! That's the sort of thing i would do!

Sounds like we are all starting to lose the plot now. I have noticed that i'm starting to forget silly things at work now, e.g. i ordered a private car for one of my bosses by email but forgot to tell them what date is was for! Silly i know, but it's the silly things that i'm doing at the mo that are the most frustrating!

All fine and dandy this end, although i didn't get much sleep last night. I think it's because DP and I were busy doing a voice over for a free party we're both playing at in Manchester in a couple of weeks (yes, i know i must be mad to put my headphones on at this stage, but it's only a small little function room so no big deal really) and we didn't eat til gone 10pm. Neither of us slept very well and i'm convinced it's because of eating too late.

LO is still breech, which i'm not worried about but it is getting rather uncomfortable now, especially as she seems to be on a growth spurt and a few people have now said that i seemed to have grown quite a bit in the last week!

Hope you're all having a nice Friday!

Easywriter · 21/09/2007 12:38

Congratulations to all the new people (both to this world and to the thread ).

I've been doing loopy things for quite a while now but last week took the biscuit. On Monday I drove my children for half an hour to a gym club that hadn't begun after the summer hols, Tuesday I waited in for the midwife and fireplace fitters only to discover about 3 hours later, that both of them had thursday appointments. On wednesday I took DD's to play group - you guessed, it wasn't on. Thursday was ok but on friday I drove to see my friend (up the duff with twins), a really simple car journey and got lost (for 40 minutes!! ). I have a poor sense of direction but even I don't understand how I got lost (it's not even the first time I'd driven to see her).

I just keep thinking 7ish weeks and I'll be able to remember my name again.

RG - We are only pregnant for 9 months. The 40 weeks go like this. The first two weeks you're not pregnant (because they count it from the first day of your last period), which takes it to 38 weeks of actual pregnancy. There are 4 weeks to a month so 4x9=36. The extra two weeks are because there are 52 weeks in a calendar year not 48, so effectively 13 weeks for every three months so you need to add two weeks to the 36 which gives the 38.

Am I being an idiot? Was that question rhetorically asked. I don't know, I can't tell. Forgive me if you needed that explanation like the proverbial goldfish in need of breasts!

RGPargy · 21/09/2007 13:00

lol Easywriter!! That's certainly answered my question (and put me in my place! )

Seriously tho, thanx for that, i was genuinely interested to know why it was called 9 months/40 weeks when the two dont actually add up. But now i know! So if i'm 30 weeks, am i not actually 7 months pg now? There's me thinking i was progressing and nearly at D-Day!!

Sorry to hear you've been a complete sieve head lately tho. I dont actually remember Monday this week and on Wednesday i thought it was Tuesday. I was very to find out it was Wednesday already but also a little concerned that i'd lost a day.

sarahloumadam · 21/09/2007 13:02

LOL at all of us dazed and confused pregnant ladies ! I am increasingly having to resort to sign language to describe basic every day items and spend a lot of evenings playing charades with DH instead of talking!

My mum threw a wobbly with me this morning for not answering text messages but been really stupidly busy at work and things going on in evening and kept meaning to reply but kept forgetting! Think she has forgotten about the cotton-wool brain. Will have to make it up to her.

Welcome new November mums and new babies!

Doctor says my baby is head down which makes me laugh - I imagine him getting ready to dive out into the world. If only it were so easy! But I didn't realise that you could specify a 6 hour labour on your birth plan so I am joining some of you on that .

RGPargy · 21/09/2007 13:06

Oh no Sarah. I think it was a 2 hour labour they specified with a 6.5lb baby!

sarahloumadam · 21/09/2007 13:15

Even better! I have also ordered some pain-free contractions, some rosy-cheeked motherly midwifes and some white toast with lurpack for afterwards .

RGPargy · 21/09/2007 13:34

Great stuff!! I've put an order in for a large magnum of Moet Rose for directly after the birth.

sparklygothkat · 21/09/2007 14:19

forgot to tell you that DS2 is weighing in at about 4lb now, hope that growth scans are ok and not way off

RGPargy · 21/09/2007 14:20

Excellent SGK! I think that's about the right weight for babies at this stage, isn't it?

You're doing a great job of hanging in there!

Blimey - we'd better all finalise our orders pronto or the shop will run out.
Rg - Champers eh - like yer style. Think I'll go for nice cold Sancerre with some salmon mousse and smoked duck. Hope the wet nurse is on time or I won't have time to really savour it

sparklygothkat · 21/09/2007 14:26

I am not sure about the weight at this stage, dd1 was 3lbs 12oz at 31 weeks (so she would have been a biggum) and dd2 was 3lb 8oz at 33 weeks. So he is already bigger than both of them!!

Lisad is doing well, her DH just sent me some pics via MSN and she is beautiful.. I love her!! It was a fast labour, 1 hour 15 mins. Her DH only just made it to the hospital.

RGPargy · 21/09/2007 14:28

Loopy - yeah i use weeks for myself and DP too. It's just purely for other people who i dont know very well that i use months for.

Oh i dont actually care WHAT type of champers it is, as long as it's Rose. One does like a spot of the ol' Rose, what what!

Not up to too much this weekend. No lie ins tho, which is gutting. We have the plumber coming tomorrow to do stuff in the nursery (hoorah!) and then DP has to work on Sunday

1 hour 15 mins???!!! Wowsers!! I'll have one of those please!

sparklygothkat · 21/09/2007 14:32

we all have fast labours, me and Misdee have both had fast ones! WIth dd1 it was 2 hours from start to finish, and DD2 was 1 hour, so I am not expecting a long labour this time. We have good bodies for labour!! lol
