I'm doing fine thanks Chochobnob - ooh your username makes me hungry - can't get Hobnobs over here in NZ - and I LOVE the dark chocolate ones...[takes a minute to ponder Jaffa Cakes, Quavers, Hobnobs and other lovely stuff we don't have here]

I feel absolutely fine apart from the usual being-a-bit-uncomfortable-with-big-bump. I honestly think my dr is being very very overcautious, but obviously I don't want to risk not following her advice. I was getting quite sore legs and leg cramps at nights and I notice they are a lot better since my enforced bedrest. I am getting up a bit, to get food and do a bit round the house but am restricting myself to half an hour up and then lying down again. I know I'm very lucky to be able to get this amount of rest so I should make the backgammon, which makes the time go very quickly...

We're going away this weekend, had planned a final childless weekend with friends so have rented a place on a island just off the coast of Auckland (not far from the island where they filmed Castaway, if any of you watched that!). It is quite well populated so has drs etc and is only 40 mins on a ferry back home if we needed to get back, which I'm sure we won't. It has lots of lovely vineyards overlooking lovely countryside so everyone else will be able to go and drink and enjoy themselves while I, ummm, lie in a different bed getting my bedrest . Luckily a friend of mine who is 5 mths pg will also be there so we can keep each other company!

I can't believe how close we are getting to the due dates now...time has flown by. Hope all is well for everyone else.

AnnainNZ · 19/09/2007 22:43

Ooh, a bit got deleted there. I meant to say, I have discovered internet backgammmon, which is making the time go faster!

aikigypsy · 20/09/2007 03:24

I had my first childbirth prep class at the hospital tonight, and I must say I was very reassured. It's taught by the nurses who work on the maternity ward, and this one seemed nice and generally like I would trust her. I kind of knew a couple of people in the class, but I was the only one there without my DP, which was a bit sad. My mother came at the beginning, which was all right, but I felt a bit pitiful saying, "my boyfriend is coming, really he is!"

It was good to learn about the standard hospital policies, and most of them sound totally in line with what I want (baby on mom's belly right away, no whisking off to weigh and measure until after first breastfeed... that was something I was worried about). They're also not too aggressive with the shots and so forth, which is good.

superloopy · 20/09/2007 06:10

Hello all.

I haven't posted for ages but have been keeping up with you all.

I am slowly getting organised. Baby will have somewhere to sleep and will have clothes to wear so I'm not too bothered about the rest. I am thinking of compiling a gift list of other goodies and sharing it with family and friends like a wedding list.

Dh and I have finally agreed on a name which is a huge relief. Will tell you all when boy arrives.

Here in Aust I have discovered the GTT is a standard 28 wk test which is so boring!! Mine was ok thankfully, but have low iron and vit D. My OB told me I needed iron tablets and had to sit out in the sun for 1/2hr each day. Wahey good medicine!! It is jut lucky we are having quite a warm sunshiney winter.

Have also been to check out the local hospital which was very nice. The delivery rooms have queen sized beds and you actually stay in that room for your whole stay. Also DH is welcome to stay overnight with us too. The rooms were quite nice and resembled a room at the Travelodge, own bathroom, TV/stereo huge window overlooking the garden. NICE!! This is the Aust equivolent (sp?) to the NHS. And only 5 mins from our house.

The only negative in my life at the moment is my well meaning but quite annoying MIL has just booked her flights to visit us for 10 days, arriving 3 days after my due date. Not sure how I'm feeling about it but excited isn't one of them. My Mum has always planned to be here as I also have a 3yo DD who will need to be cared for when I'm in hospital. I will just try not to think about it....

Finally, we got a parcel yesterday from DH nan of 'lovely' knitted cardigans(5) and hats(2). It seems to have slipped her mind that it will be summer here when the baby arrives. He is going to be one sweaty little boy!!!

Must go and eat something chocolate!!

fiona76 · 20/09/2007 11:16

Hi everyone great to hear your stories. I have my 32 week check uo today so I hope all is well. I feel really good at the moment better than I did a few months ago- maybe because I'm not working any more. My back packed up last week and I had to go on bed rest but it seems all better now and I have had no pain for 2 days now.

littleoldme · 20/09/2007 13:02

Choudu and Sparkly - really pleased to hear all is going well.

Anna - you may be missing choc hob nobs but since my trip to NZ I hanker after Hokey Pokey ice cream mmmmmmmm...

Super- your delivery suite sound heavenly. You lucku thing.

We went to an active birth class at the hosp last night. It was really reassuring to be taken through what happens when you arrive at hosp etc. We also saw the delivery suite which was suprisingly pleasant and calm. I want expecting blood streaked corridors and screaming wailing women. I feel much better about the whole thing now.

A little advice if you will. I'm v close to my mum and up till now have wanted her to be at the birth . Now I'm feeling more happy and confident about the whole thing I think I just want DH there as it's the last bit of time we'll have on our own. Also, I suspect he'll be more relaxed if it's just me and him. Still not entirely sure though. Just wondering wht other people's exeriences are.

Am absolutely blummin' whacked today. Think I'm going to curl up with a movie.

Fiona- hope your back improves soon.

superloopy · 20/09/2007 13:25

I had DH and my Mum in the delivery room. I wasn't sure how DH would cope and thought he might benefit from some back up if he needed it. I also had someone with me all the time if they needed to pop out for food/drink/loo.
My Mum also promised to keep my MIL away til I was ready for her!

sparklygothkat · 20/09/2007 13:57

another day and still here, waiting to hear how my sister is getting on She went in last night, but baby is back to back and she wasn't progressing.

morethanmum · 20/09/2007 14:01

Just found this thread. Is it for everyone expecting in November (obvious question? sorry) Can I join in - feel like minin basketball and have to wait til Friday 9th Nov, 9am (C section). How to keep going!

Hello morethanmum! (Belated greetings to all the other newcomers I've missed latey, too).

Superloopy -- LOL at the cardigans. People who knit tend to leap at any excuse to make baby clothes, particularly impractical things like cardigans for the Australian summer. I have to admit I made a hat for a friend of mine's baby in Australia who was born in November two years ago. It will get colder eventually!

Your hospital rooms sound even nicer than ours, which I thought were pretty good, but we just have a pair of twin beds and have to change rooms an hour or two after delivery.

Sparkly -- I hope your sister is doing well. Keep us updated!

littleoldme · 20/09/2007 15:17

Thanks for the advice Super and Loopy - keep it coming.

Loopy - fortunately there is no prospect of me having a 48hr marathon. I've ordered a 6.5 pound baby , 2 weeks early and a two hour labour

I really want to get it right so everyone's views are much appreciated.

My sister had a little boy this morning. I got a call at 7.30 to say she was going to hosp then another one at 10 to say she had delivered now that's quick.

Greeting more. Come and join in . Looks like Nov is going to be VERY busy month.

fiona76 · 20/09/2007 16:12

Just got home from antenatal. Blood pressures high but ok I need to be checked next week. I like the sound of the 6 and a half pound baby with 2 hour labour can I have one of those to???

littleoldme · 20/09/2007 16:47

Fiona - Of course you have a 2 hour labour and 6.5 pound baby - just make sure you specify that's what you want on your birthing plan

littleoldme · 20/09/2007 16:47

Ps hope the BP sorts itself out.

Pixiefish · 20/09/2007 17:34

I'm washing clothes at the moment. Did wonder whether I had to as I've kept it all in plastic boxes but it's been there for about 3 years. I'm washing vests, grobags, blankets and also the clothes that I have bought for this baby.

Need to get it dried and then put away- argh- why did I start this

OP posts:
iris66 · 20/09/2007 18:03

Pixie - hope I'm not the only one thinking I've got an obscene amount of clothes lined up for the new LO Lovely seeing the tiny stuff again though isn't it.

Fiona - hopefully your BP will just be a blip

Sparkly - keeping everything crossed for your sister (you just cross your legs - no following suit!

Superloopy - I've been thinking about having my mum there too but not sure if it'd be too much for her to see me in pain. How was your mum with it all?

Saw the consultants again yesterday and the diabetic one still wants me to go on insulin even though only 5% of my readings were outside the parameters and explainable sobbed all the way home I'm still going on instinct though (and last pg experience/current research)and refused - but only at this point. I only hope my sugars don't creep up or else I'll have to rethink.
On the plus side, all other aspects are text book,d LO is head down and I booked my HB today The MW advised me to stick to my guns as I can always cancel at any point if things change up to the last minute. She's coming round to do the check list in a couple of weeks so I feel totally bouyed up now

must go put dinner out - back later..

silkcushion · 20/09/2007 19:04

Can you put a newborn in a grobag? They seem like quite a good idea - I don't know what to use at night. Would blankets be better?

Also my mind has completely gone today. I went to visit one of my staff today in Abingdon and drove to Wantage (25 minutes South) parked the car and then realised I had driven to completely the wrong town without thinking what I was doing! Think I've become so stupid I'm not sure I should be allowed out on my own.

sparklygothkat · 20/09/2007 19:24

anyone finding that their mind is going slightly?? I couldn't remember my PIN yesterday, luckily DH knows it, and keyed in it for me.

My best friend is coming down south this weekend and wants to meet up with our normal crowd, have said that I can do a meal but no clubbing or anything, my cousin just phoned me and asked if we can all meet at the funfair!!! I said that they will not allow me on the ride, and I can't walk around a fair atm anyway. He forgot I am 7 months pregnant lol!!

33 weeks today!!! have made it to when I had dd2, next milestone is 35+5...

My brain too is turning to mush. keep forgetting things at work and putting things and forgetting about them. The other day I tried to put my photocopier number in the pin machine.

I def should not be allowed out on my own and I@m not doing any driveing of more than half an hour c'os I can't concentrate.

littleoldme · 20/09/2007 20:33

That message about sums it uo LOL - I meant the cash machine - not the pin machine. I don't think those exist do they

sparklygothkat · 20/09/2007 20:37

I put in the first number, the my mind went blank, there was huge queue behind me as well

iris66 · 20/09/2007 20:44

lol littleoldme - I keep forgetting random words when I'm talking "handbag" has been the worst to try to explain for some reason

littleoldme · 20/09/2007 21:40

Iris LOL - I was desperately trying to remember what the term for washing machines, fridges etc is. It took about 10 mins of decribing to Dh untill he realised the the words I was looking for were domestic appliances or white goods. By the time he'd enlightened me I'd forgotten why I wanted to know!
