Hi, thought I'd start a new thread. Hope ou find this OK!

Just been shopping downtown and bought a fab paid of maternity pants for work.

Also bought "The Baby Name Wizard" as Borders were having 20% off everything. Feel free anyone to ask me a question about names now!! The book categorises them into the following "style families" (chances are if you like one name in the family, you'll like a number of others - e.g. I tend to go for "Antique Charm" names for girls which include Abigail, Adeline, AMelia, Anna. Annabel, Annalise, Ava, Bella, Clara, Daisy, Eleanor, Emma, Eva, Georgia, Grace, Hannah and Isabel):
African, Androgynous, Antique Charm, Bell tones, Biblical, Brisk and Breezy, Celtic, Charms and Graces, Country and Western, English, The -ens, Exotic Traditionals, Fanciful, French, German, Greek, Guys and Dolls, Italian, Jewish, Lacy and Lissome, Ladies and Gentlemen, Last Names First, Latino, Little Darlings, Long Gone, Mid-Century, Modern Meanings, Muslim, Mythological, Namesakes, New Classics, Nickname-Proof, Place-Names, Porch-Sitters, Saints, Scandanavian, '70s and '80s, Shakespearean, Slavic, Solid Citizens, Surfer Sixties, Timeless and Why Not?

Oooh I can't wait for Maternity leave 8 weeks now, finish on 2nd Nov. Counting down.. very of whoever is finishing at the end of this month - sorry, preghead means I forget things very fast.....

Ambi · 05/09/2007 09:18

That made sense in my head - I meant I couldn't remember who said what...

Ok so everyone seems to be getting there, now we're in that 3rd trimester. I love my maternity pillow, big 5ft-er wasn't cheap but needed it for my back although a pillow between the knees is so comfy and stops my spine from twisting in bed - ouch. Am now living in one pair of Mat jeans and 2 pairs of fat pants that I didn't chuck out when I lost some weight. Ooh got second hand cot last night which is fab but the owners were smokers and can smell it on the mattress so will replace that to be safe.

Am enjoying buying the baby stuff although still have to hold off on the bigger items, as we're still £2k off the car we want . Not looking forward to visiting Mothercare, a week before due date!! But keep picking up items like cotton wool and breast pads and nappies in the monthly shop, getting quite a collection now.

Ok must get back to work before I get busted AGAIN!!

suey2 · 05/09/2007 09:33

I ahve just ordered a pillow from blooming marvellous- not having problems with my pelvis, so i have just ordered the one with a flat bit it the middle and a bump support both sides for side-lying. Will report back how good it is. VEry much looking forward to it- am using a sofa cushion at the mo which has to come with every time i turn over.

Mrswizz · 05/09/2007 10:04

Bought a pram yesterday, such a relief to have got it out of the way. Trust me to have made a right drama out of it though. I wasn't going to buy one, my brother and SIL have kept loads of their old stuff for me, cot blankets, pram travel system thing, breast pump. I was so overwhelmed by all the stuff I promptly wrote them a cheque for £100 then had to get the train back to London. They were going to bring it to mine later in their car as I don't have one. Got back to London and started to cry - realised I'd just paid for loads of crap that I couldn't use. Their old pram much too heavy for me to lift up the stairs to my flat. Would have to put the chassis in teh shed every day and I'd never lift the bleedin thing onto a bus. I hate this stupid emotional brain I've got at the moment, its turned me into a moron.

Anyway, have cut my losses and bought an ultra lightweight Silver Cross pram. Have told brother I don't want his and I hope he rips the cheque up.

macdoodle · 05/09/2007 10:38

oh good can we talk buggies/prams was too scared to start thread on pregnancy as guess ahs been done to death before....had really ucky cheap mothercare travel system last time - this time have the cash and lots of stuff from friends and DD so will be splashing out on cool trendy buggy....soooo really fancy the chameleon bugaboo but at £600 without car seat and extras is a bit steep (even for me)...quite like the silver cross (which one did you get Mrs Wizz) also the lulu bebecar ...need advice planning on walking with babe and trying not to drive as much...fancy old fashioned carry cot type pram but there are so many out there...gonna take MIL to pram shop to look and try but any suggestions girls ?????

suey2 · 05/09/2007 10:53

hi macdoodle- i am going for the bugaboo- my mate has a frog (a bit cheaper) and I was really impressed how manoeuverable it was and easy to break down. They had a little standing borad at the back too. Some of the more lightweight ones as i understand it are nowhere near as manoeuverable.

Mrswizz · 05/09/2007 11:14

Macdoodle, I got the Silver Cross Dazzle. It might not be for everyone, but my criteria are that it has to be light, I live in a first floor flat, I don't have a car and I'll be using public transport. It has a very light carry cot that you can take out of it so I don't have to wake him if he's asleep. It folds away to nothing. I've got a separate car seat for the few occasions I might travel in one. Its only £250 as well, so its not too dear.

ManxMum · 05/09/2007 11:29

quick message everyone as I am on my way to the shops on an emergency mission!!

What can a pg woman t6ake for indegestion? shes due in Dec and suffering

Help!!

ManxMum · 05/09/2007 11:30

Oh! and by the way she can't take calcium as she has kidney stones!

Mrswizz · 05/09/2007 12:12

Manxmum - I'm on the Gaviscon. Is that calcium based? I read a thread saying homeopaths say lemon juice in water does the trick, but I am sceptical. Others have milk.

Have just sorted my maternity leave out. Roll on 16th November!

Mrswizz · 05/09/2007 12:13

Milk is obviously calcium...oops.

suey2 · 05/09/2007 12:30

peppermint tea/ ginger beer. There should be some meds, but nost are calcium based- so don't know on that score, sorry

Mrswizz · 05/09/2007 12:38

Oh I love ginger beer at the moment. Never drank it before being pg, but with the absence of alchohol, you have be inventive with your choices.

ManxMum · 05/09/2007 12:43

Boots have suggested Asilone as it doesn't contain calcium and is suitable for pg women. She is asking mw for advise as well. Poor lass has been sick with it! Ahhhhh, memories!

Thanks for your help and good luck everyone!

MotherofZ · 05/09/2007 13:03

yum yum to ginger beer

Lizzer · 05/09/2007 13:23

Hi there, yes macdoodle and suey2 I was too scared to talk about buggies too but now you mention it... Funnily enough I was the same as you, cheapo travel system last time sold it for 35 quid 9 months after dd was born...now seriously looking at the bugaboo cameleon, I haven't seen one in rl yet though (they haven't caught on round these parts yet but my friend in London said she was in a cafe in Dulwich and counted 9!) I have pushed a frog and that seemed really good, small turning circle and lovely suspension ( I know, I know its not a CAR!) As for the money I keep thinking "Well, if I can get around 450 for it in 18 months time on ebay then its not a bad investment as the resale value is sooooo high compared to any other make" AND you can get them for nearer the £500 mark. Babytrader.eu delivers for free in UK..£533 And you get a 50euro discount for 1st time order..

Sorry that was a bit of a ramble, I don't ever want to be one of those bugaboo bores who order different colour fabrics for each day of the week

Mrs Wizz I think you did the right thing, its v hard to say no when people are trying to off load stuf on to you. My boss was determined I would buy her bulky steam steriliser -I didn't use one last time, just a bit of milton in a tub for cups and teething rings and very occasional bottle...So I bravely said I wouldn't be needing it. She was

Ambi are we in our 3rd trimester already?

Well 48 hours since we went in the new house and its looking good. The team dp has got are brilliant lads, real hard workers. I have keeping them topped up with brews and cookies Have new kitchen, bathroom and walls to move before we can get in though! Getting out of rented on 18th oct (which seems a long time away but will fly I know)

I am quite at those with big bumps, I only just look pg! Some days more than others though, I think with maternity jeans on I feel more pg. However seeing as I've got to pack up a house and decorated another its probably a good thing I'm mobile (but a shame cos can't get people to run around after me )

Ooo and congratulations mrsskidaddle!!

thelady · 05/09/2007 14:11

Whoof - chatty list today or what!?

I'm swithering about buggies etc. My logical side has the following criteria:

  1. We live on the top (2nd) floor of a very old hotel with spiral stairs. A pram is out, as is anything bulky/heavy.
  2. DH is 6'1 and I'm 5'7 so something with longer-than-normal or adjustable handles is probably a must.
  3. We get out in the car about once a fortnight, so a travel system is probably a waste of time - more use to get a car-seat that switches easily from our car to MILs to SILs in case of family outings.
  4. The car is small (Honda Jazz) so anything bulky is out - needs to be able to fold down and fit in the boot.
  5. We are broke!

Based on that, I've been thinking that the Maclaren Techno XT looks good, along with, perhaps, a Maxi Cosi carseat. Trip to Halfords seems to be the best bet for the carseat, as they have loads of different options.

Then I start to wonder.... I'd love a rear-facing buggy/pram so I can talk to the little one, but am tending more towards getting a sling for general out-and-about instead.

We'll probably wait until the baby is here before we get a buggy/pram so that we can see how well we manage the whole folding etc. thing while holding a squirming bundle.

Carseat has to be here by beginning Nov. as we're still hoping to get away for a week, and will need it if this tadpole makes an early entrance.

Decisions decisions.

Mrswizz · 05/09/2007 15:12

Thelady - I had a good look at the Maclaren Techno XT when I was in John Lewis. Sounds as though you have the same issues stairs wise as me. Its really lightweight and folds up easily and the furry lining you can get for it is lovely. I went for the Silver Cross one because it has a carry cot that I can take out so I don't have to wake DS if he's asleep by lifting him out of the pram. For you I can see the handles might be an issue for your DH, they do not adjust so the Maclaren might be better.

Neuro · 05/09/2007 15:40

Hello chums

Someone's just brought cakes into our office. YESSSSS!

Only got time to read the top few threads. I live on top floor (2 flights up, no lift, good for legs, bad if you've got loads of shopping).
I am looking around for a travel system that is pram, has car seat, and converts into buggy that is reversible so baby can it's mum, and with a shopping basket on bottom as i don't have a car.

I looked at something called an Icherry or Icandy. I kept emailing the online place asking what the total price is and i'm sure i'm not being stupid but they just keep sending a long seemingly comlicated list of this that and the other and all i want is a total.

I WANT BABY TO COME TODAY......4 more calendar months to go..

Neuro · 05/09/2007 15:42

p.s. i caught myself cuddling my still warm hot water bottle this morning thinking it was little baby

Mrswizz · 05/09/2007 16:22

Neuro, what's your due date?

I'm not feeling broody, just a little apprehensive. Am really enjoying just lounging about with DH at the moment. Nervous about being a family after 10 years of being a couple.

suey2 · 05/09/2007 16:27

I HATE being PG. Ankles and legs are swollen and it is getting harder and harder to move around (13 weeks to go) THe kicks are cool, but that is the only good thing. Really looking forward to the end already.
Phew! feel better for fessing up!

Neuro · 05/09/2007 16:32

I"m due 29th Dec. So really it could be middle of January possibly...bloody ages away.
I can just about paint my toenails but it's uncomfortable. Can just see lady garden, and prob TMI but as a single lady, i'm just not bothered. I'll be positively wherewolf like later on. Think i'm going to book in for a brazilian though just before Christmas.
Honestly it's daft really isn't it, as i doubt pubic hair will be high on list of priorities in labour.

OH did anyone watch a program about penises on Monday night on BBC 3?

macdoodle · 05/09/2007 16:32

Oh me too Suey hated it the 1st time and even more so this time - 6 years older and busy 6 year old to sort out ....and no husband either...hate feeling ym body os not mine looking at lovely clothes today and all i bought were 2 humongous bras

Neuro · 05/09/2007 16:39

So Suey are you 27 weeks now?
