Hi, thought I'd start a new thread. Hope ou find this OK!

Just been shopping downtown and bought a fab paid of maternity pants for work.

Also bought "The Baby Name Wizard" as Borders were having 20% off everything. Feel free anyone to ask me a question about names now!! The book categorises them into the following "style families" (chances are if you like one name in the family, you'll like a number of others - e.g. I tend to go for "Antique Charm" names for girls which include Abigail, Adeline, AMelia, Anna. Annabel, Annalise, Ava, Bella, Clara, Daisy, Eleanor, Emma, Eva, Georgia, Grace, Hannah and Isabel):
African, Androgynous, Antique Charm, Bell tones, Biblical, Brisk and Breezy, Celtic, Charms and Graces, Country and Western, English, The -ens, Exotic Traditionals, Fanciful, French, German, Greek, Guys and Dolls, Italian, Jewish, Lacy and Lissome, Ladies and Gentlemen, Last Names First, Latino, Little Darlings, Long Gone, Mid-Century, Modern Meanings, Muslim, Mythological, Namesakes, New Classics, Nickname-Proof, Place-Names, Porch-Sitters, Saints, Scandanavian, '70s and '80s, Shakespearean, Slavic, Solid Citizens, Surfer Sixties, Timeless and Why Not?

advice needed having my 2pm crash were I really need to nap - I work 4 days but days when at home with ds I nap when he does and with dh at home on weekends I tend to nap about 2pm - obviously can't sleep now, already had cup of coffee as ds slept badly last night and struggling, any advice on getting through till 7pm when ds goes to sleep??

suey - hope you make it home ok!

kerioke · 03/09/2007 14:28

HI all! just realised my last post was in caps... sorry about that!

how did everyones weekend go? we had a great one.. finally got round to buying some baby bits and in one afternoon we did nearly all of it...! dont know why i had started to get in a flap about it all!

have also solved the pushchair dilemma... i was thinking of buying a normal travel system for the newborn and attatching the buggy board/seat for my toddler, but also keeping his kick up buggy for days when we are out for a while and putting the little onbe in a sling.. but then i got worried that i may need a double buggy if my SPD doesnt clear up quickly! then there was the dilemma between a tandem, twin buggy or phil and ted design (why is ntohing ever easy?) after chatting to a lady from mothercare she recommended we go with plan A and buy a normal travel system a few weeks before the birth and then if once bub is here i do need a double instead we can exchange and pay the difference.. so worked out quite well in the end!!

god that was a long paragraph! we spent yesterday mooching around a market and then went out in the evening and took both of the boys to brewsters for dinner and so they could let off some steam.. i couldnt face cooking a roast, doing the dishes and bath n bedtimes and thought 'why not i've got a life time of sunday roasts to cook!' we really enjoyed ourselves and myself and dp both felt it was what we needed as a couple as well as a family... gonna make the effort to do more things like that now and then so we get some 'couple time' whilst the boys were amused playing in the fun factory!

right now ive bored you all i will leave you be! just feeling good after that weekend!

skidaddle · 03/09/2007 14:37

Hi all,

thanks for all your good wishes . Wedding went fine and yes claraq we DID take the potty but fortunately she didn't need to use it during the actual ceremony. It was just us, dd and two friends as witnesses so it wasn't really a big deal - more of a dry run for next week when there will be 40 people watching. Got the giggles when I had to say 'I do solemnly decalre..' but otherwise all went well and then went for a lovely lunch which was free because the fire alarm went off and they didn't know how to turn it off so definitely a good omen!

Insy - know the feeling, maybe a sugar fix??

Beanster - think the 3rd trimester starts at 28 weeks but not sure

Lizzer - congrats on the house - how exciting - pregnancy is a great time to move house because you're so into nesting

MotherofZ - wore a spotty orange maternity dress but will have a bit of a posher dress for the proper wedding next week
Glad you applied for that job and fingers crossed for you...

Beanstermummy · 03/09/2007 14:50

Skidaddle - completed missed that in the few weeks I missed - huge congrats DH did all that 8 years ago now - seems ages ago when you actaully write the numbers in!

Best wishes for everything in your future though and I'm sure you family (you, Mr Skidaddle, DD and mini skiddadle to be) will have a great time in Dublin.

Beanstermummy · 03/09/2007 14:50

please insert DH and I - did all that 8 years ago - sounds like he married himself!!

MRSskidaddle · 03/09/2007 14:59

Ah, that's better

thanks beanster, gosh eight years, that's impressive

insywinsyspider · 03/09/2007 15:40

hey MRSskiddale - forgot to say congratulations!

trying a sugar fix now but seriously struggling!

suey2 · 03/09/2007 15:56

Congrats mrsskidaddle!
Anyone got a maternity pillow yet? I am having a look but would appreciate any recommendations

Mrswizz · 03/09/2007 16:07

Mrsskidaddle, fantastic news, many congratulations. I love being a Mrs, I hope you do too!

Suey2 I've got one of those 5 ft pillows that you can put between your knees and under the bump. I must say it is a bit bulky and I hardly use it. Its great for leaning on reading in bed though. I wouldn't really recommend it - the duvet doesn't stretch over it so I get cold bits coming in. I usually use normal cushions now. I do dream of one of those double sided maternity pillows though that support your bump whichever side you sleep on and you lie in the middle of it.

Bouncingturtle · 03/09/2007 18:39

Mrsskeddale - it's your wedding day and you are on Mumsnet???? Well done you got your priorities right . Glad your day went well!
Suey2 - is there a Lidle near you? They are selling the long body pillows for £7.99 + pack of 2 pillowcases for £3.99 from Thursday. I'll be getting one!

mixedmama · 03/09/2007 19:14

I know I am on leave - BUT congratulations MrsSkidaddle

Couldnt resist checking nin on everyone.

insywinsyspider · 03/09/2007 19:58

suey - I sleep with extra normal pillow between my legs and I got one of those small wedge pillows from mothercare www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B000MMSKEY/sr=1-22/qid=1188845748/ref=sr_1_22/026-3306931-8178051?ie=U TF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=42800041&mcb=core its great for just under the bump and small enough to take away with you if you stay at friends or family (also put it under cot matress when ds was tiny and had a cold because it angled his matress and helped him breath!)

cazzybabs · 03/09/2007 20:13

Ahh had ot get up early today - bit of a shock to the system! My classroom now has a carpet in but still no tables, chairs, any of my books etc and the kids start on Weds - so I will be in school till midnight tomorrow trying to sort it out! GREAT.

One of my collegues is pregant and has always been on the very very (possibly far too slim) side - she is due a month after me and has the tiniest bump but her boobs - WOW! There was a possiblity her LO may have Downs syndrome - do you think it would be rude of me to ask?

buzzybee · 04/09/2007 06:35

cazzybabs, your colleague has obviously decided to progress with the PG so even if she has found out the baby has Downs, she must have come to terms with that. Therefore, if you do ask her make sure its in a positive way like "Isn't it exciting, only 3 months to go - how are you feeling?" or neutral as in "how are things going?".
Personally as I decided against the amnio I know there's a risk for my baby but I'm reconciled to that. In fact I really hope that if my baby does turn out to have Downs that everyone will still congratulate me rather than saying "I'm so sorry" etc - but I suspect that will not always be the case...

buzzybee · 04/09/2007 06:45

Oh and I hope you aren't still there at midnight!!

Good luck MotherofZ

Nice to see you back Suey2 That tube strike looks absolutely ridiculous - as if they can put an open ended guarantee on jobs! I suppose the union is looking for a govt bail-out package or something.

Insywincy - maybe try and get outside for a brief walk at 2pm? I find bright light is the best cure for sleepiness.

MrsWizz - sounds like you need a bigger duvet to match the enormous pillow! Last time I used a spare normal pillow, haven't needed to use anything yet this time (maybe because I have bed to myself!)

Bouncingturtle · 04/09/2007 07:08

I am currently using a cushtie - I tuck that under my bump. Tesco's are doing a bogof on them (mine was a xmas present from a friend).

suey2 · 04/09/2007 08:09

thanks fot the advice guys!
Managed to get home last night on the picadilly line, but after the 20 min walk this morning i found out that they had decided to shut that, too!
by the time i had got back to the kings road to get a bus, they were so full they weren't picking up (7am) and even if i could get on one i would have had to stadn for at least an hour. So I gave up as the bump was already painful by then. I felt like such a failure- it is my business after all. This strike will probably cost me personally about £3000 over the next 3 days. (central london rents are pretty high and i realyl count on numbers through the door to make a living) It makes me so mad. I really think that essential services should be banned from striking: they are not hurting the company they work for, just everyone who has absolutely no influence on their greivance.
Sorry for rant. It just makes me soooo mad

buzzybee · 04/09/2007 08:47

You are absolutely right to be so mad Suey!! I feel absolutely hopping mad on your behalf. angry]

Maybe you can use the day at home constructively to write a few letters to the union, politicians, papers etc. Its time these people woke up to the fact that they don't just cause inconvenience, the cause actual physical pain and significant financial loss.

It also makes me remember exactly why I left London to come back to NZ (although admitedly I lived in Pimlico and worked at Embankment so could and did walk home most of the time). Here in Wellington I have a carpark which comes with my job (very environmentally unfriendly I know) and the trip to work takes me 20 mins door to door.

kerioke · 04/09/2007 08:58

morning all! pillow wise i use one of those triangle ones, i find it great as i can position it however and wherever i want... i got mine from argos, but i have since seen them cheaper in other places... chose the triangle one as i know i will need it when baby is here to help position right with breast feeding the first few weeks.

MotherofZ · 04/09/2007 09:05

Morning all - Hope you all are well!

Re: Pillows: Am being economical and using a old summer quilt and folding it over and putting that under my bump and inbetween my knees. Works well for me!

Buzzy - Was that the main reason you left London for NZ - the bad transport? Sure it was nothing to do with nicer weather/beaches??

BeachBunni · 04/09/2007 09:25

Congratulations skidaddle. Hope you enjoy Dublin- it's great for shopping.

Haven't bought any maternity pillows myself although when I was in spain used my mum's bolster as a body pillow and it was great. I don't think they sell them over here though. Currently using about six pillows but most of them under my head to try and stop the heartburn at nights.

Handed in my maternity leave the other day and was going to work until the end of Oct but brought it forward to the middle of Oct, although with my two wks hols I'm really leaving the end of sept. With my travel time I'm working 12 hr days and it's killing me. I can't wait to get off and spend some time relaxing to myself - so you could be hearing a lot more from me then

thelady I'm so jealous of your dp being all lovely and loving your bump. My dp hates it - he's always been grossed out by the sight of preg women. He's trying to be all nice about it but after spending 7 years together I know what he really thinks.

buzzybee · 04/09/2007 09:37

lol MotherofZ, no transport was not the main reason I left London!! But I think the main thing I really don't miss about London is the mass of people, people everywhere and particularly on the tube! Key reasons for returning home were family and a being able to afford a nicer house with access to lots child-friendly activities (come to think of it transport limits access to those things too - so maybe transport was a bigger factor than I thought!) My DD was 8 months old when we left and just beginning to crawl. Her day nursery was nice enough but had a tiny concrete playground and our flat had no outside area at all...of dear, now you've started me I'd better stop!

OP posts:
Mrswizz · 04/09/2007 09:48

F%*£"!G Metronet!!!!! They should be strung up the lot of them. 72 hour strike - surely that's excessive. It's a nightmare now in London. You did the right thing Buzzy, get well clear of it.

Mrswizz · 04/09/2007 09:54

Suey2 I share your Piccadilly line pain although I managed to eventually get on the trains last night and this morning after letting several go but had to stand in contorted positions with no air and really hot. Took ages to get anywhere. Legs still hurt and feel stiff.

Loucee · 04/09/2007 10:10

Morning everyone

Sympathies to Suey2 and Mrswhizz and anyone else suffering from the train strike. It's so infuriating and totally agree with your comments Suey2. Both DH and I used to work in London and had a long commute of train and tube which contributed to us moving away (although not as far as Buzzbee!).

I'm feeling really achey today, have a nasty headache come congested head probably due to DD waking up frequently in the night and getting up for good at 5.30am... there's only so much "Make way for Noddy" you can watch at that hour .

I've had a nesting urge over the weekend but it's worn off today, I feel like staying in bed for the duration!
