For all those looking at buying cars - www.whatcar.co.uk is invaluable.

You all say about ' if anything goes wrong' with a hb. When my mw turned up at home she set out loads of stuff in packets (because they were sterile)plus had 2 small oxygen canisters in case baby needed recuss. I asked her what it was all for and she said 'in case of emergancy, but it hardly gets used'. As it didnt this time and she packed it all away again. In fact the only packeage she opened was the scissor things for the cord. She also assured me an ambulance is always on standby with every home birth. I didnt get to meet the second mw as baby aarived before she got here. Told you he was quick.
The only trouble was I like to keep active during labour and it gets quite boring walking up and down a hall when you live in a flat. Atleast you get a couple of different routes in hospital plus if your nosey like me you can ask any mw's knocking about if anyone else is in labour

mixedmama · 24/08/2007 11:36

I read a thread about homebirth where apparently if there is an emmergency even in hospital you have to wait for the theatre, anathetist (sp) etc and that can take up to an hour, by which time you will have transferred to hospital.

Apparently it is very rarely an "emergency" if you get my meaning.

No experience myself.

I will see if I can find the thread for those of you interested.

Hello everyone! Its been busy on here this morning.

BWMum ? sorry to hear about your evening hope that you are feeling better today and get things sorted with DP.

MotherofZ ? hope the migrane isn?t too bad today, have to tried the headache stuff that you rub onto your forehead at all some people say that is very good.

Lilyloo ? you sounds like you have an action packed bank holiday planned, I cant believe you are going to fill up the paddling pool it is still grey and wet here

Gingme how comes you cant have a pool at home?

Beller enjoy the test driving!!

Mixedmama- I am going for a hospital birth, mainly because it is baby number 1 and also to stop PIL turning up!

Naetha ? kitchen and bathroom hunting, you are brave, guess its good to kill two birds with one stone.

Cazzybaby · 24/08/2007 11:56

I have just been reading thread on pregnancy page about travelling to Paris 2 weeks before due date. I was seriously considering going to Bruge the weekend before xmas as I do every year, provided I could get travel insurance but after reading that thread I have been slightly put off, what do you think??

mixedmama · 24/08/2007 11:59

Going to read it now.

Cazzybaby we asked with last ds and was told our floor wasnt structuraly strong enough.

Cazzybaby · 24/08/2007 12:03

Gosh are birthing pools really that heavy!

mixedmama · 24/08/2007 12:11

I dont reckon ours would be either.

I dont have enough space either as i have a teeny flat.

Just discovered a girl at work due 2 days before me ? it?s fun chatting about it!

Cazzybaby ? that?s a good point re the party ? there?s no way I am going that far away from home at that stage so I won?t be there!

Gingeme ? I worry about beanie hearing me shout too

Awen ? hope you get that day on the beach

BWMum ? nice to hear from you I feel for you and know how you feel. Last weekend I kept getting ?just one more hour? from DH whenever I wanted to leave a party and as I consequence I felt lousy the next day they just don?t get that parenthood has begun for us already! it?s all about maturity (or lack of) on their part I guess. Hope you are not feeling too lousy today after getting so cross (that?s how it works for me!) x

MotherofZ ? sorry to hear about the migraines

Lilyloo ? don?t get too tired this weekend but have fun! my sis had a lovely home water birth last year. She hired the pool. She lives in London so far from you though. I love the name Ava. How about Eva/Evie, Mimi, Misty, Lauren, Rose/Rosa?

Beller ? LO and I are likely to both be Capricorns too. Or LO will be an Aquarian like DH. Think most Capricorns get on well enjoy the test drives we looked at the Golf but think we thought we got more for our money with the 307

Mixedmama ? hope you get a quick sale feeling any better? Hope so.

Naetha ? hope you are feeling better too

mixedmama · 24/08/2007 12:14

Cazzy - i think you should see how you feel nearer the time. if you still feel quite good an that i think going to the market shouldnt be a big deal - but i think you may just not feel like it.

I had a moment the other day where i sppent the whole day looking for flights etc to istanbul for new year - even went home and told DH about plans and he was like "mmmm, you're having a baby then". Damn.

mixedmama · 24/08/2007 12:16

Cazzybaby we went to the baby show at Earls court last year and they had 2 stands with info on hiring pools and they had all about weight and water ratio. Cant remember the details now but I know we couldnt have one. When I see my mw next Wed might ask about a home birth using the bath as pain relief. She did tell me abour how many ladies shes delivered at home in the bath. Sounds good to me. Though our bathrooms quite small. I nearly had the last ds in the bathroom leaning over my sink as it was relitavely 'comfortable'. But the mw wanted me to lay down to examine me and thats when it all happened very quickly........

mixedmama · 24/08/2007 12:29

Oh i went to the Babyshow last year and the year before - are you going this year.

Cazzybaby · 24/08/2007 12:29

Does it get really uncomfortable in later pregnancy, I dont really have a clue as its first time, but from speaking to my mum she seems to think I will be able to carry on as normal, maybe she had very easy pregnancys!

mixedmama · 24/08/2007 12:33

Cazzy i had a very easy pregnancy, but in those last few weeks I used to go for a walk to the high street and back 20 mins max even just strolling.... at least 1 hr 15 mins in heavy pregnant state.

Also, markets are busy places, bump may get knocked etc and that may stress you out.

I dont think it is a completely bad idea, esp if it is just a day trip but would be mindful of how you may feel.

OP posts:
MotherofZ · 24/08/2007 13:00

Cazzy - Don't think I would go thatlate on in the pregnancy - but all depends on how you feel. When I went o Malaysia whe Iwas 3 mths pregnant MW told me to carry my pregnancy notes with me at all times and keep numbers of local maternity units to hand. Would you get travel insurance so late in the pregnancy? Also are you allowed to go on Eurostar that late (I know you can't fly later on in your pregnancy).

Am already thinking about our next holiday - Summer 2008!! Thinking of child friendly places - DD will be 2.5yrs and the bean would be at least 6 mths. Thinking of Morocco or Tunisia......

BWMum · 24/08/2007 13:04

Hello everyone,

Thanks so much for your support - and sensible advice!
DP sent me a text at 1:30am to say he was staying with a friend as he had missed last tube. Perhaps best in the end as I was so cross with him I'd have picked a fight at 3am when he got home! As it was, I complained loud and long to the cat over breakfast

I think we need to sit down together sometime this weekend when the dust has settled and chat about the next few months and what happens when the baby turns up. I really thought he was fine with everything and had thought it all through, but I think a good talk together is needed after last night.

We're planning to have the baby in hospital atm but I'm becomming more and more interested in the home birth option as I learn more about this. Might try to go to the baby show to find out more....

Hope you all have a wonderful long weekend.
xx

I think Morocco or Tunisia would be lovely.

We are definitely going to Turkey as it will be three years next year if we dont go and I think I will just cry forever. But I am lucky as we have a house and also lots and lots of family.

Gotta have something to look forward to.

BWMum - glad everything's on the way to being sorted.

You couldn't talk some pregnancy sense into my dh who asked yesterday "When are you going to start blooming, and stop being so grumpy?"? Words just guaranteed to put me in an immediate strop.
